Remove "purchased" label - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As a lot of you know by now, Google's doing another app sale to kick off the launch of Google Play. I planned on getting a few of the games on sale. Just to be on the safe side, I downloaded their apk files to see if the phone'd handle it. Turns out it did quite well on the lot of em. So I went back to the market to actually buy it but it's now labeled as purchased (even if not installed). Whenever I try to install it I get the verification error. Any workaround for this?

i sent you a message

Uh yeah I still actually planned on buying em

Known issue when using either a 3rd party market application or side loading applications. Google does not have a resolution on this matter. I contacted them back in December and still the same ole BS answer from them that: "We're looking into it."
Original thread on this topic.

Same issue. It's stuff I really do want to pay for. It's been happening forever. It happens whenever I Titanium restore Amazon apps, too! So now I imagine that Google thinks I stole every free Amazon app of the day that I have on my phone.

Remove Amazon App Store and keep apps?

Not sure that I like the Amazon App store running all the time.
While I like the free apps they give away, it requires you to have the appstore on your device.
Any way discovered to remove the appstore and still use the apps?
I don't have the amazon app store. (Not sure I want it now!!) I seem to always read the posts about whatever they gave away for free the next day!
Anyways... Just thinking here- What if you either back up the apk for whatever app you want to save on your PC? or Maybe try backing it up with titanium, then uninstalling amazon (I assume your "freebies" would go bye bye at this point too) and then restore them?
Love to know if this works or if you figure out a viable solution! Good luck...
Nope. The APKs have DRM in them that connects to the Amazon app, which then checks with Amazon to make sure you're authorized to have that app and run it. You're SOL unless you want to unpack and hack each and every app and its update.
Apparently it's up to the app maker whether or not they want to have the DRM, but all of the free-app-of-the-day's have had this DRM.
Blah, that sucks.
Don't know if I like to have Amazon App store on my phone.....
What's the big deal with having it installed? Seems like a small price to pay for the paid app giveaway. Granted, it takes a couple megs of storage, but other than that I don't see all that big a problem.
yeah really, imigine if you weren't rooted youd have tons more apps you can not get rid. Amazon wants to give away apps every day hecks yeah i'll keep their app
I've had the Amazon app since it came out, and cannot notice a difference in performance or battery life.

If it causes battery drainage, try freezing the amazon app via TB and see if the free app still works?

I can live with the Amazon app store. I have been getting the free apps since Angry Birds. I have a lot of apps. I use it to store the apps until I find a use for them or download into a different device. It also is the only way you can get app updates.

+1 on that. I was initially hesitant to keep amazon app store. I realized it aint a big deal keeping it there. It gets me some of the paid apps for free that i really want... and also provides updates. i think its totally worth it.... even more if you play games on your phone coz most of the featured apps are games.
I like the amazon appstore for the free apps and also because you can load the free apps on more than one device. My wife has a rooted Nook Color and I put the amazon appstore on there, now she can have the same games on her phone and the Nook Color.
I still use the official Android Market when I actually buy an app though.
Is this the Amazon MP3 store? I tried to look for it in the App Market but I have no idea what it looks like lol.

You're not gonna find it on the android market, it's a direct competitor to the android market made by Amazon. The reason they're giving away a paid app for free every day is to try and build a userbase and lure people away from the android market. A lot of the paid apps on there are also less expensive than the same apps on the Android Market.
You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b?ie=UTF8&node=2350149011
Wish there was a fix...all of my valid apps from them continue to tell me I need to reinstall (Guess the validity check has failed?)

[Q] Amazon Free Apps - What To Do With All Of Them?

Greets - With Amazon giving away an app a day, it is fairly easy to grab each one just in case. Of course, Talking TomCat gets very old after a while (10 minutes?) and PicSay may come in handy some day, but not now.
Any idea how one can claim the free app, and have it when/if you want it, but NOT have to have every single one of them on your phone, growing by the day?
Thanks!!
Download it, then uninstall it. You can reinstall it from Amazon any time you want.
It's amazing some of the apps that they are giving away. Saved me over twenty dollars so far
I wish they was done way to keep therm for side loading directly rather than going back to amazon.

I don't know if it would work but can you download it, save the .apk on your computer, uninstall it, then reinstall it at a later time?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Amazon keeps a record of what you have "purchased". I have downloaded the free apps but have not installed them all. They are sitting there waiting.
Considering Amazon keeps your record and you can redownload all you want, in addition to the fact it only takes a matter of seconds...I would think that's a better route than trying to harbor the .apk because there might have been bug fixes, etc., in the meantime and you would have to check for updates after putting it back on, and so forth...
Just sounds like the potential for more headache than what its worth...I just go back to the store and get it if I need to.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I guess
Going to Amazon is just a Xth layer to restore ... nandroid then titanium then amazon then etc.
But if they keep doing things like giving away Wolfram Alpha (WOW) ... its hard to resist.
Just get the app, you don't have to keep the app. It may come in handy one day.
Just download them but don't install them or download them and the ones you want you can not install them but reinstall them later
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I downloaded and installed them then backed them up with titanium backup. Then if I have no use for them right now I uninstall them and can restore them through TB when needed.
On another note after cursiing the very existance of amazon.mp3 on my phone for the last year I know love it. I got 20 GB free space on amazon cloud for downloading a $4 album and I just got the new R.E.M. album for $4 too. I have 25 GB of my music stored on their cloud server now for free which has freed up a lot of space on my 32 GB card.
I only download the apps I like now, which really arent many. Whats Avinator!? lol

Downloading apks.

My evo is rooted and I want to try some apps before I buy them. I know Google doesn't want you to download apks from the internet so they try to block them. Sometimes I can get them to download and sometimes I cant. Is their any way you can get your evo to bypass this? I don't want an app from the market. Maybe a file I can delete using root explorer or something?

No that's not the problem. All that does is let you install them. I need help downloading them. It downloads them sometimes but most of the time it doesn't.
Downloading them from where? If you are downloading them from a 3rd party site, then the problem is with the site itself. Unless you are having problems downloading everything. If you are only having difficulties downloading apk files, then try getting them from another source.
I've noticed certain apps do not install, unless installed from the market.
One such app is google maps. After switching to cm7, gapps wanted to install maps 5.31 (current version). I wanted 5.0. Manually installing 5.0 would fail right at the end with a "unable to install" or "installation unsuccessful" message.
Pushing said app to /system/app, adjusting permissions, then rebooting yielded success.
I can install them I just can't download them.

Why don't you download them using a computer then transfer them to your phone via USB?

If you're using 3g/4g to download, make sure you have the Sprint proxy disabled. It may or may not cause problems.
I kind of understand "trying before you buy"... as long as you buy. I just hate how people feel like these apps should be handed to them, like they're entitled.
I can't say much since I pirate music, but I always make sure to purchase from the bands I really appreciate, especially the lesser known & local bands. That's kind of how I view app/rom developers, they're local to the community... so I always either purchase the apps or use a free alternative.

MTC "Russian words" app.

There's this app in the market that is showing up as being installed on my phone after flashing Malice. I have no idea what it is, but it's by OJSC Mobile Telesystems and it's all in Russian. It's been in the market for well over a year, but according to the feedback, nobody knows where this thing came from.
What is this thing?
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=ojsc+mobile+telesystems&c=apps
I found a link to all their apps in the Google Play store, but the one in question isn't showing up in that list.
Same for me. Just decided to show up on my list of app updates today on Market, but I have NO idea where it came from. I certainly haven't seen it or heard of it before.
From reading the comments though, it seems like it may be tied to the Samsung mail app? One person said taht they think it came with the latest Samsung app installer update. They deleted that from their systems app and this MTC thing got uninstalled.
I have no idea where this app would be on my phone if I wanted to search for it...
Same thing here. It just appears as an update from googleplay. No option to uninstall. Any idea? (SGSII with ics stock rom)
Same running BEASTMOD5 and randomly show up. Soviet just flag it and ignore it for now

Same here, Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.
Must have attempted to install from something else (possibly the mail app, but who knows).
I declined it and it doesn't appear to be in the apps list. Flagged in the store with the thousands of others.
Same here. Samsugn Galaxy SII using stock rom. Showed up yesterday.
They are saying it got released using the same code....
It's not a virus but it's not useful anyway

Google Settings

Google settings randomly appeared in my app drawer today without downloading or updating anything? Anyone else get this or know what it's about?

I had "Google Settings" app appear today also, and my internal storage has gone down from 243 to 231 mb. I can't find it with app quarantine or titanium backup either so I can uninstall or freeze it :/ Where did it come from?
It will eventually make its way to all devices. I first saw it appear on my nexus 7 this morning but not my sgs3, it wasn't until this afternoon.

This is supposed to work like the login with Facebook option on many websites it's basically so you don't have to come up with 5 billion user names and passes instead you just log in with Google plus to get onto a site. The settings thing is probably just a spot to adjust what is being used with what sites or apps.

You're joking right? Something as small as this pushing people away from the only real option as far as mobile OSs go? There's almost no going over to iOS from android and WM is still a bit of a joke. It's not even that big of a deal. All it is is an option for developers to integrate into their apps for people to sign into other stuff using their G+ account/profile/whatever you want to call it.

But if you realize, its not optional. You can't post a review using google account, unless its linked to google plus.
It's part of Google Play Services. Freeze it with TiBu and Google Settings goes away.
But, I'm sure some Google stuff won't work after that.
Though I was just able to update my Play Store apps and use Gmail with it frozen.

While I agree for the most part I prefer these generic sign ins for things like forums or 9gag where there is no private info to be gained from getting into it and having a dozen logins and passwords for sights like these is bit unnecessary. In theory I can understand the idea for sights where purchases are made as well since you are logging on to the same account for everything there aren't dozens of places that have a credit card on file. However then you get into the one login problem and other security issues as well.
