Not sure that I like the Amazon App store running all the time.
While I like the free apps they give away, it requires you to have the appstore on your device.
Any way discovered to remove the appstore and still use the apps?
I don't have the amazon app store. (Not sure I want it now!!) I seem to always read the posts about whatever they gave away for free the next day!
Anyways... Just thinking here- What if you either back up the apk for whatever app you want to save on your PC? or Maybe try backing it up with titanium, then uninstalling amazon (I assume your "freebies" would go bye bye at this point too) and then restore them?
Love to know if this works or if you figure out a viable solution! Good luck...
Nope. The APKs have DRM in them that connects to the Amazon app, which then checks with Amazon to make sure you're authorized to have that app and run it. You're SOL unless you want to unpack and hack each and every app and its update.
Apparently it's up to the app maker whether or not they want to have the DRM, but all of the free-app-of-the-day's have had this DRM.
Blah, that sucks.
Don't know if I like to have Amazon App store on my phone.....
What's the big deal with having it installed? Seems like a small price to pay for the paid app giveaway. Granted, it takes a couple megs of storage, but other than that I don't see all that big a problem.
yeah really, imigine if you weren't rooted youd have tons more apps you can not get rid. Amazon wants to give away apps every day hecks yeah i'll keep their app
I've had the Amazon app since it came out, and cannot notice a difference in performance or battery life.

If it causes battery drainage, try freezing the amazon app via TB and see if the free app still works?

I can live with the Amazon app store. I have been getting the free apps since Angry Birds. I have a lot of apps. I use it to store the apps until I find a use for them or download into a different device. It also is the only way you can get app updates.

+1 on that. I was initially hesitant to keep amazon app store. I realized it aint a big deal keeping it there. It gets me some of the paid apps for free that i really want... and also provides updates. i think its totally worth it.... even more if you play games on your phone coz most of the featured apps are games.
I like the amazon appstore for the free apps and also because you can load the free apps on more than one device. My wife has a rooted Nook Color and I put the amazon appstore on there, now she can have the same games on her phone and the Nook Color.
I still use the official Android Market when I actually buy an app though.
Is this the Amazon MP3 store? I tried to look for it in the App Market but I have no idea what it looks like lol.

You're not gonna find it on the android market, it's a direct competitor to the android market made by Amazon. The reason they're giving away a paid app for free every day is to try and build a userbase and lure people away from the android market. A lot of the paid apps on there are also less expensive than the same apps on the Android Market.
You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b?ie=UTF8&node=2350149011
Wish there was a fix...all of my valid apps from them continue to tell me I need to reinstall (Guess the validity check has failed?)

As a lot of you know by now, Google's doing another app sale to kick off the launch of Google Play. I planned on getting a few of the games on sale. Just to be on the safe side, I downloaded their apk files to see if the phone'd handle it. Turns out it did quite well on the lot of em. So I went back to the market to actually buy it but it's now labeled as purchased (even if not installed). Whenever I try to install it I get the verification error. Any workaround for this?

Known issue when using either a 3rd party market application or side loading applications. Google does not have a resolution on this matter. I contacted them back in December and still the same ole BS answer from them that: "We're looking into it."

Same issue. It's stuff I really do want to pay for. It's been happening forever. It happens whenever I Titanium restore Amazon apps, too! So now I imagine that Google thinks I stole every free Amazon app of the day that I have on my phone.
I don't know why I'm posting here as this is also happening to my Galaxy Tab 10.1, but for some reason, Angry Birds Rio and Pocket, are caught up in an updating loop between Amazon Appstore and Play Store. Whenever I update it using one market, the other market says that app needs to be updated. Doing so, will revert the update-needed status to the other market, and so on. I know it has nothing to do with each of the markets as I have tried originally downloading the files from one and the other and this still happens.
The weird part is that it only occurs with these 2 apps. All other apps that was updating using one market, cleared the update status on the other market as well.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?! I know it may sound confusing, so I can explain it a little better if needed.
Thanks in advance...
I get the same thing, only for Pandora though. Really annoying.
It burns when I Tapatalk...
I have had this problem for a long time. Here is the issue. If you ever "bought" it in the Amazon store, it will show up there. I have 5 apps that have this problem, and it is because I must have installed them at some point from the Amazon store, so they are on the Amazon list. There is no way (that I am aware of) to remove something from the Amazon store after you have installed it. It will always show up on your list, and therefore will always show a conflict even if it is the same version. It is VERY annoying, and I wish I could fix it, but I can't.
maybe someone else have a solution, but I don't.
I think you are talking about the "Available Apps" list in the Amazon Appstore. I am talking about the "Update List". I have never bought Angry Birds Rio in either store and this loop is found between them.
Amazon appstore is crap. I won't even install the free apps anymore. The apps I really like I repurchased from the play store.

Actually you can remove apps from the Amazon App store if you log into your Amazon account (NOT in Appstore). Once logged in, go to Your Account, then to Your Apps and Devices. There you should see a list of all your apps you have purchased as well as any free apps of the day you may have downloaded. Click on the Actions button beside the app and select Delete This App. Easy peasy!
And as an aside, I have had the exact same problems with updates between the Amazon and Google Play stores.
My quick answer is choose one market over the other.
Amazon and their penchant for DRM is enough to keep me away. The lack of support for e-pub format on the kindle is also annoying.
I could go on but no one wants to hear it.

Oh **** they added that finally? Nice
Well, I removed Pocket from my app list in the Appstore site and it is still showing it in the Update tab for Amazon Appstore. Even though I downloaded it from the Play Store.
This is so annoying. Shouldn't the markets verify the app version somehow and work with each other?
Wow! The new update for Amazon Appstore from today fixed my issues with Pocket. The only problem is with Angry Birds Rio now. I think it might have something to do with it being ad-free from Amazon and not from the Play Store. Anyone else can confirm that Rio is giving them this issue?
How weird that the update came out today. It's like they're spying on us. =)

I have had this issue with k9 mail forever. The problem lies with amazon using older versions of most apps. Unless it is a FAOTD I don't even bother getting it from amazon. Play store ALWAYS has a newer version

Well I think at least (as a Noob) I am posting this in the proper place.
Anyway, I have the ota JB update plus root but I seem to be finding less free apps and more pay for apps. In fact one of the apps I had but uninstalled, when I was on the custom codename android rom is now no longer free. I also had installed my nfl team wallpaper the other day and uninstalled it (I am having really bad battery drainage issues) but decided to reinstall and now the app is not even in the store. I am not sure what is going on. I thought when you are rooted you have more free apps to choose from not less and why would that one app I had originally gotten for free on my custom JB rom, now cost $?.
for instance a few days ago the packer live cube 3d wallpaper was free but not anymore. I didn't use it due to battery drainage but I am wondering why it is no longer free.
Thanks
You are imagining things. Rooting/ custom roms have no effect on the play store. Its just developers of the apps changing things

Okay thanks. I am new to this. Why did you say I am imagining things?
1. not all apps are compatible with jelly bean, so they wont show up in your market.
2. root has nothing to do whether apps are free or paid. its just easy to steal apps with root.
3. your custom rom before could just have included a paid app into its rom, people do that. sometimes they have permission(rarely) and sometimes they are just stolen(usually).

Sorta off topic but I've been shying away from free apps lately, especially games. I'd rather pay a set fee than be nickel and dimed with in app purchases and annoyed with ads.
Hi all.
I've gone through the regular build of my firetv. I usually let aptoide update all the apps automatically, however After the update (im not sure) the firetv is behaving with the following issues.
1. I cannot click on any of the apps from the recent or home screen.
2. I have to select the apps on the manage installed apps page.
3. The apps location looks different and has kodi in it. that shouldn't be the case as kodi is not an amazon sanctioned app.
Is there a utility that got installed?
really really appreciate your help. please see the screen shot

Really? Don't know what is a stock amazon app store. I did the recovery and got back to where it should be. Had to redo all apps again but that is a smaller task. The only change I had done was to let aptoide update all updates which I usually don't let aptoide take over. it also updated supersu etc.

The app store was installed. Do not update all appps with any third party app store. Aptoide always has an update for the amazon app store and if you update it, it installs the actual app store. Pay attention to what apps you are updating and what the version number is, cause sometimes the apps are actually downgraded with third party app stores. I update all apps one at a time with third party app stores, and I check to make sure that the app is the right version by checking it in the google play store first. There are also a lot of fake apps on third party app stores. Lets say you have version 1.2 installed and the updated version is actually 1.3, third party app stores may say the version is 1.4 or 1.5, and that always means the app is fake. So basically, never batch update/auto update with third party app stores, and always check the version number and you will be fine. If the version number does not match, do not update, and if you do not want your apps displayed like an app drawer on the fire TV then never update the amazon app store. BTW, if you accidentally install the amazon app store again, simply uninstall and reboot and it will go back to normal.

I wish I knew this earlier would have saved me loads of time redoing the box again, but that too is no biggie as most of my build is automated through batch files. I didn’t know there is an app store. I’ll be careful. I too typically don’t update all but do it one at a time. The good tip is to check the version number before updating which I will. I’m contemplating getting another rooted one for my self as a backup as those are getting hard to find and my local best buy has a few on hand.

Even if they are not rootable, they are still worth the money. The only advantages I really see in rooting is having the play store, default lanchers and external drive support. I could care less about a launcher on the fire TV, cause none of them function correctly anyway, and not having the play store is even less of a care for me, cause I have all the apps I need or want without it. External drive support would be nice, but I am pretty sure it will come in a future update from amazon so no big deal. I guess I can say my only gripe about the Fire TV is that it does not support a lot of apps that are sideloaded, but that is not amazons fault and every device doesn't support all apps.

Agreed. At the moment, the benefits of rooting is not outweighed at the moment, however, the custom rom is around the horizon. I specifically like the suspend feature on kodi. Another rooted feature I like is quicksupport/teamviewer, so I can help my family incase they need help. I may drive down to bestbuy on my way in and pick up one of the rootable units and keep it on the side for future need or family need.
Or should I get the nexus player.

You should get the device you like. If you already know the Fire TV is good for you then why not get another? If you wanna different experience get the Nexus Player or another device of your choosing. Its all subjective, and no one can really answer that for you. Just my opinion, you will be hard pressed to find another android box that can compete with the Fire TV. There are a lot of devices that have great specs that do not compare to the Fire TV, even without root. There is a reason why there are thousands off videos comparing the Fire TV to the Roku and Apple TV, cause its is the top Android box, period.

Agreed. I've gotten myself another box as the serial number was in the series 3 and I would like to keep it rooted. I'm confident a custom rom is around the corner. So far I've given the firetv to my parents, inlaws, brother in law, 3 cousins and loads of friends. They all are super excited about it. the downside is that I'm getting tired of building one for friends as when people ask, they don't realize the effort that is put into building one, specially for rooting. I feel if building one, give the full honesty and build a good one/rooted as you never know what new is around the horizon.
Yes its stock amazon app store, i made the same mistake when apiode updated the amazon store for me. All you have to do is uninstall it.
go to settings apps click on amazon app store and clear data and cash uninstall then reboot.

Reason I'm looking for this is, I had some apps that don't show up anymore on the A appstore and I remember getting them from the underground app

They did get rid of the Underground program, but the successor app to Underground is here. This app is specifically for apps, whereas the app in the Play Store is their general shopping app. Either one will allow Free App of the Day or Underground apps to continue working, since Amazon still requires apps to phone home. However, the app I linked to is much easier to use when searching for or updating apps.
Thank you
