my defy is just 2 weeks old and i have started experiencing trememdous lags....
its 2.2.2 running , kernel is 2.6.32.9-g0671d13 , just in case it could help in finding a solution...
1. the screen goes off on its own half of the time (even though the time out is of 1 minute) and even when i unlock it , it again goes off.. ITS REALLY FRUSTRATING
2. i have just 1 game installed, but even then the phone lags a lot, the game lags and so does the entire phone..!
3. the internet isnt getting activated (i guess thats a network problem though), anyone with a similar problem!?
please post replies as soon as possible..
well i too experience the same, mine is 30 days old...
I have disabled gps/data/wifi/auto brightness to get max battery yet it fails to go beyond 1 day even if i use max an hour of wifi.
screen going blank on it own is frustrating
moto widget for time and date does not keep current time
lag in touch even after running ATK on auto aggressive mode
defy is running indian 2.2.2
p.s. any idea if i can get data on first date of use for battery? I somehow feel a new one should give more standby life.
my phone does last around 1 1/2 days with an hours gaming....and it does keep the current date and time (as of now)...
mine too lags inspite of the ATK being on autokill.... even the homescreen takes time to load after pressing the home button ...
Might want to try getting rid of ATK.
Tasks/services run for a reason on android. When something kills them, they'll start back up, causing more cpu and memory usage than if you'd just leave the service running.
Run for a reason, but not necessarily a good one. Stock motorola/vodafone firmware that I had on my defy would run many completely irrelevant processes - VF360, newsandweather, amazon mp3, etc. Task killing isn't the solution because they just start up again.
The best way to get best performance from the phone is to install CM7.
You could try to wipe in stock recovery. Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982, point witch says Froyo laggy. You will lose all data.
If you find it laggy afterwards, you will never be happy with the preferments on stock froyo. Then try CM7. You will be able to downgrade to send it to warranty as I also did this. It is quite a difference.

Is it going off while you are holding it by the top, with a finger on the left of the speaker hole?
If it is the case, it is because you are masking the proximity sensor. And if you have the "Pocket detection" feature activated, it will cause this annoying stuff...
Well not to worry even mine was laggy before, i had just installed 2-3 apps. I had to restart my phone at least once then i installed cm7 rc1.5 Now its very fast and i dont remember the last time when my phone was lagging and freezing.
I guess it has something to do with the froyo and motoblur on defy that makes it laggy.
You have to have get rid of stock froyo after owning a defy.. thats the truth..
I did a readup on the ATK stuff and the excerpt from the and dev documents... well since the read i have uninstalled all task killers... (kept one just in case with all auto actions disabled)
I do hope the lag issue is resolved after moving to CM7/Jboogie3 etc
however the battery issue is a major hurdle for now as one day is too less, i probably have to take it to the service center for a checkup and/or claim warranty on battery. till them no flashing for me...
att: patriiice - even when the proximity sensor is not covered, i do experience screen blanks, almost immediately asa the power button is pressed to wake the device.
The lag presented on the Defys running Froyo is a "super nice feature" by Motorola it has an easy fix tho.
Its caused by the VM consuming all memory, all its needed is adjusting the amount of MB the VM should leave free.
There are a few ways to it:
1) Run a terminal emulator, or use GScript Lite to run this:
su
vm.min_free_kbytes=8192
(Not permanent, need to be ran every time you reboot)
2) Get Sysctl from market and do it from there.
3) Get SetVSel and do it from there.
Lag
I have that problem to. The bad thing is that i can`t answer call during the lag, it says i have my phone is closed or i don`t have signal. I`ve installed Temp+CPU and during lag it shows that the proc is running at 100%. Memory has all the time, around 130 min and 230 max. Closed all programs one by one, no change. I restart the phone and everything is running smooth and it lasts max 1 day. i have stock rom 2.2.2. (please excuse my spelling)

I also use 2.2.2 stock and my defy runs without lag... you should consider to root the phone and freeze some unnecessary stock-preinstalled apps like Kindle, Voice command, etc... the ones you will never use. I freezed about 20 apps and there is no lag at all. (I even froze Maps, Streets, SIM toolkit, and some others)

My Defy was lagging until I rooted and installed SetVSel. Now its running as breeze with Stock Indian Froyo.
stock froyo is not good but it shouldn't be that bad. there were some faulty battery issue that i have heard of before too. but in your case your defy might even be faulty. so i would suggest you get it replaced or fixed under warranty first before flashing any custom rom.
lag on defy
with rootunistaller i`ve frozen skype and yahoo and i haven`t had any lag since. If i want 2 use them "defrost" and when i`m finished i just "freeze" back the app

Easy as that...
Lag on defy
Nope. I was wrong after 3 days of normal proc usage it started again. I`ve installed OS Monitor (free on market) and there was a process the ate all my resources: "DRM Protected Content Storage". Selected watch log and there was something like "enter, delete update, uri: content://media/external/audio/media/1 ../44.... /254..."
This process is searching ur phone for media, video audio and looked like it was stucked at this folder. I`ve searched the phone for that folder but couldn't find it so i just killed the app in OS Monitor. After the process restarted at log was showing "media search finished:182 audio files found and 1 video found". Looks like that's my problem and maybe yours to. Cheers mates
so I might visit the service center this weekend to have my battery life checked.. one day life with all wifi/data/gps disabled and below average voice calls is not acceptable at all.
what is stock recovery?? and will it void my warranty???
thanks a lot guys for ur replies!!
but the thing is my phone has become even slower!!
when i first switch on the phone i have around 240MB free RAM but just after an hour everything becomes too slow, even opening of the menu! and after 2-3 hours of usage it keeps on reducing and finally reaches as low as 40MB .....
what could be causing this??
i have android assistant by which i clear cache, ram still it doesnt help....
I've a serious problem in my phone that appears after upgrading to ICS, frequently when someone calls me it gives him ring and my phone do nothing and it doesn't even shows it in the missed calls, when i tested this from my other phone the phone didn't respond until i press the standby button it starts to ring!!!, this issue always happens when the phone is on standby and when i press the standby button i noticed the signal fluctuating from 0 to full like crazy and stabilizes after a second. I'd like to say that it happens frequently not every time (once or twice daily).
i had to activate the call forwarding when not answered option to my another phone until i found any fix for this issue, i was using stock ICS then used custom and rooted rom then lite kernel and nothing changes, i used CPU tuner app to set the min CPU seed at least 750 and nothing changes, changed the sim and no changes, I didn't have this issue before when using GB.
I'm currently using this phone in Egypt with Vodafone as it is unlocked
Can any one help.
Thanks in advance
Update
i had found a new app on Google play prevent the phone from going to deep sleep called (wake my android pro), it is a free app as it allow the phone to sleep and not to deep sleep so it is not consuming battery like (wake lock) app which keeps the phone running in background and reduce battery cycle for about 40%.
i had tested it for 10 days i didn't loss calls so far
still waiting for a real fix.
How about some search?

thank you for your reply, actually i'm searching in this issue for 2 months and i see the above links before,i was looking for a real solution not workaround as the device is already draining battery and the solution will make it worse.
i was looking for a mod or a even a rom that solves this issue because GB was working fine but its too old now.
anyway thanks again
Well, I think if there were a solution, it would be posted shortly. I am not satisfied with the wake lock too, so still at GB
The problem is that the phone will not ring for either incoming or outgoing calls. Someone phoning me gets no rings, it goes immediately to voice mail. When i try to call out the screen looks perfectly normal - all of the correct icons are showing up so it looks like it is ringing, but it is not ringing either at my phone or at the person i am calling.
The problem is cured by restarting the phone. Only after i restart the phone do i get notification about any messages that were left.
This happens only when the battery is at about 40%, but not always - just occasionally and rarely. It happened today for the first time in a few months; it also happened a few times, a few months ago.
I would think that at 40% battery there should be no battery charge related problems? 40% should be plenty to run the phone?
Any ideas? I am going to return it to the store and ask about this, but i would like to have some more info to go on, if any is available.
TIA,
Mick

Update: It may very well be happening more often than i thought. I do not get a lot of calls, certainly not every day, so it could be quite consistent and i may not have noticed. For the next while i'll let it run down every other day and check.
It happened today. I just decided arbitrarily to check. Battery at ~35%. I phoned to check if i had any messages. Everything looked normal as i said in my original post, but it did not ring and did not connect.
Before re-starting i checked to see if Mobile Data was working. It was not. After re-start both Mobile Data and the Phone were working.
I am wondering what is the technical significance to the Phone problem of the Mobile Data also not working? They must be somehow related in the hardware or software structure of the phone.
I got my phone back today. On the report it says ...
Complaint
#1[]C56-no service
phone antenna cutting out intermittently
Symptom code C56
Work performed
[202]-Full sw upgrade & phone reset
;sw re-flashed then rebuild to factory default
Repair code 202
I'll see if it happens again or not over the next few days and report back. To me it sounds like they did nothing to the physical components of the phone, just flashed/installed/configured the various software components.
Mick
Here we are, exactly one week later, and the phone failed in exactly the same way. So the "repair" process they applied did not work. I'll be returning it to the Rogers store today and will report back here with the results.
I may have the solution to this problem of network drops now, finally. I took it back to the Rogers store where i bought it. This time there was a more knowledgeable guy there. He took one look at the screen and said "I know exactly what is the problem". What he noticed was that the LTE notification was not showing. This city is an LTE hot spot. The phone should connect with LTE virtually anywhere, anytime. He said it is not the phone at all, but that there is a "switch" that needs to be reset for my account; something to do with the SIM card. After a couple of phone calls he returned the phone and said that it is fixed.
Time will tell. I'll post again.
Mick
False alarm. The fix made it worse. Now it not only drops network connections, but also drains 50% of the battery over the course of one day with very little use. Used to drain 20%.
Mick
Just reporting that the so-called knowledgeable guy was incorrect. Still dropping the networks. I went back and he was incorrect again as he believed that you had to have Mobile Data enabled to make/receive calls. Oh well, he was doing his best. Got thru today so far with no dropouts, and battery drain returned to normal ~20% loss for the day. Will see what happens overnight and tomorrow.
Getting kind of tired of having an unreliable device. Hope this gets settled soon. I'll be back to him as soon as it drops out again.
Mick
I really do wish some of the more technical guys on this forum would take an interest in this perplexing problem.
Here is a summary of this problem and of the work done by the official repair center, the results, and finally at the end a couple of questions ...
Here is a description of the technical problem with the phone ...
1. The phone will work normally for an indeterminate time period, perhaps a few hours or maybe a week or so. Then it will malfunction as follows -
2. Signal strength is tiny. The phone will not ring for either incoming or outgoing calls. Someone phoning me gets no rings, it goes immediately to voice mail. When i try to call out the screen looks perfectly normal - it visually appears to be calling as the active icon is on the screen and the message says "dialing". There is no dialing sound. It never connects, it eventually gives up.
3. Mobile Data is not working. With Mobile Data enabled there is no icon on the notification bar. Google search and PlayStore do not run.
4. Wi-Fi is working. The icon is on the notification bar when it is enabled. Google Search and PlayStore work with Wi-Fi.
5. The problem is temporarily cured by restarting the phone. Only after i restart the phone do i get notification about any messages that were left. Then eventually the problem re-occurs.
When i sent phone back the first time this is what they did ...
[202]-Full sw upgrade & phone reset
;sw re-flashed then rebuild to factory default
When i sent it back the second time this is what they did ...
[051]-No trouble found
;RF Calibration performed to enhance RX/TX performance and network connectivity. Passed RF compliance test to meet manufacturer soecifications. Adjusted battery level to optimize power usage
When i sent it back the third time they did exactly the same as the second time. The phone is now working better as i will explain, but it has not been long enough to confirm if the real problem is solved.
I have set up the CleanMaster [CM] and BatteryDoctor [BD] Apps. I have turned off any automatic options in both. I make only light use of the phone - a few calls per day, maybe one Google search, nothing else. I run the 1 Tap Boost CM Widget and the Save Power BD Widget after each use of the phone.
I also have installed NoWallpaper [saves a wee bit of battery power], SmoothCalendar [very nice and very useful] and one of the Clock Apps [with a useful 1 x 2 Widget].
I have not yet disabled the 50+ Apps that CleanMaster reports as harmless to disable as my phone is still under warranty and has this issue that the service people have not yet been able to resolve. But i will be doing that and i highly recommend it to others.
I have had the phone back from the 3rd repair for 6 days now. I am leaving it powered on overnight. At the end of the first day battery = 89%, second day 74%, 3rd day 55%, 4th day 46%, 5th day 31%. That is 5 days of light use. Was 23% this morning so i re-charged it to 100%. I'm happy with 5 days of light use.
I do not have written notes on the previous battery performance. But from memory it used more than 20% the first day, at least an additional 30% the second day. There was not enough to trust it for the third day as it lost more overnight. I was running BD and CM, using the CM Widget but not the BD Widget.
I am wondering when the phone will fail again. I'll post again when that happens as i feel certain that it will. But i secretly hope it will not
So, finally, here are my two questions ...
What is the actual, presumably hardware, problem with the phone that they are not able to find?
What did they do to improve the battery performance so dramatically? Did they for example lower the CPU clock rate?

Thanks fort the response, i told her not to get the phone.
Well, it gets worse. The phone messed up today same as before. A bit more than two weeks after the "repair". I was at home in one of the strongest signal areas. Would not receive or make calls or use mobile data. So back to the Rogers store. By the time i got there it had started working again so i could not demonstrate the problem. Also used a lot of battery power today, about 40% with light usage compared to 15% or less per day for the past two weeks.
What the counter guy at the Rogers store said is that there is nothing wrong with the phone, that all cell phones do this, and that i should adjust my expectations.
Here's another ConnectionChecker app. This one attempts to reconnect ...

I have the LG G4 with T-mobile and I frequently stream music with Slacker. I have noticed quite a few times that is the music app is streaming in the background (and the screen is off), the application will close completely and stop playing. This does not appear to happen when the app is in the foreground. I do not have any task killing applications installed and I was wondering if others had seen behavior like this? Any thoughts on how to prevent this from happening?
Thanks!
Same to me but with endomondo
What is probably happening, well has to be getting killed by the garbage collector, but why could be a few things.. if it's doing it when your screen is off its the device going into deep sleep and slacker is not pushing a persistent enough service to give it a higher priority to keep the device awake when the screen is off which there wouldn't really be much you can do besides using an app like Tasker or a robot To 4 + device awake while the screen is off and there's probably some other apps that will do it too. That's one way to test and at least find out if that's what's going on. And another likely reason would be simply the phone is being pushed into out of memory situation and Android is killing off everything which would only happen if you had a **** pile of apps running and I still don't see slacker having a low enough priority to be killed so quickly. I would have to know a little more about what all you have running on your device at the time it is being closed
Through my ancient eyes comes the certainty of decay... LG G4 & L 70
Hi all,
Just converted from Huawei to this beauty which I already love dearly
Though, having big issues with two apps I really *need* to stay active in the background. Both apps do have the option "Run in background" which are activated. I've also made sure those two apps are not Battery Optimized. I've also made sure they have all needed Access Rights (Camera, Mic, etc etc). Still - when the lid are closed and a while after, the two apps stops receiving notifications. Also, the two apps stop sending information back to the systems telling that I have the apps active and are monitoring/on watch. Opening the lid are enough to wake the apps up enough to receive notifications. I can honestly not use this phone unless I find the cause of this whatever are killing the apps. The notifications are alarms from two different monitoring systems.
Are there any other places/settings I can look to find out why the apps stop responding?
Also, where are now the setting where I can tell that these two apps should autostart on boot?
In advance, thx.
Br,
Stigh
Maybe turning this on would help maintain a stable connection: settings>apps & notifications>Special app access>Unrestricted data
I also have a Huawei, unfortunately the option of AutoStart apps isn't available in this phone as far as I know.
Can I ask if you are also having background 'clicks' from the earpiece when talking on the phone?
My wife is having same issue with her lg stylo 6, I say it's ram issues since she's using 99% ram all the time. Hers will close apps even if recent button was hit and went right back to the same one. If you find a fix lmk, also check ram and usage.

Hi, thx for the feedback, I will test this setting and see - and report back Though, as it works as long as the phone do not fall into Deep Sleep, how can it be unrestricted data? To me, it seems Android go into some Deep Sleep state some time after you close the phone - I suspect this is a Motorola-thing, not Android 10.
No, I have no 'clicks' in the backround when using phone itsself or BT headset. Have not tested the original cabled earpiece though.
