I was just wondering if undervolting is possible for the gio? Anyone? Thanks
As i remember the Stock Kernel min. Frequency is about 200 MHz. At CM 7.2 with custom Kernel it is about 150 MHz. So it is generally possible. I think you want to know the possible steps beyond. I don't really know. But anyway i would suggest thinking about govenours for saving Power.
Or do you mean undervolting?
Oops I meant undervolting
Sorry, it's just the it's the middle of the night and I'm on my Blackberry Playbook.. And yeah.. I'm gonna go crazy...
So do you know how to undervolt gio?

Nope. My stockrom can go as low as 122mhz.
Oh okay,
it was long time ago when i was using Stock. I remembered that ... wrong.
i think that undervolting need some kernel mod thingys
if it is even possible with Gio.

Yes you are right!!
You need a custom kernel that supports undervolting in it's modules!!
i really feel the need for a good costum kernel for stock firmware..
-like ext2, ext 4 support
-overclock with stabe oc speeds and only with the best guvernator not all the 1332121 out there..

Hi,
is it possible to overclock the GNEX CPU to 1.5GHz and GPU to 512MHz with a rooted stock galaxy nexus?
Is there an app to do it?
Is it difficult to achieve 1.5GHz, I mean, do I need overvolt or every GNEX is able to achieve 1.5GHz?

Flash a kernel. Franco and Trinity can do 1.5ghz and 512mhz gpu.
I'm sure there are others too but I don't know for certain.

No, not with stock kernel.
not.some custom roms have built in the perofrmnce tab to control cpu speed.not all chips can hit 1,5 in normal conditions...personally i have to disable smart reflex and do undervolting.there are some devs that has a control app on market that control all of these aspects.reccomended.personally i use glados kernel+glados control app.

third party kernel? what???
you need a custom kernel that is capable of overclocking that high. with the stock kernel you can not oc. so, its either a stock kernel or a custom kernel.. whats a third party kernel?
Hi,
And to complete:

Not necessary to overvolt at 1.5Ghz,it depends of the kernel you will use and his settings.Mainly the voltage at 1.5Ghz.
And no,not every Gnex can run at 1.5Ghz,not all CPU are equal, some can and others can't...Same thing for the GPU overclock at 512Mhz some can and others can't...
Glados kernel and Air kernel can achieve a 1.5Ghz slot...
I think you should read more carefully the Dev section...
And if you want overclock you need an app, developer's application kernel like Glados,Franciscofranco and Morfic or a "generic" app like SetCpu,CPUTuner,System Tuner,etc...Because if I'm not wrong no kernel offer a 1.5Ghz at boot directly without an app or a script,so if you flash a custom kernel who allow a 1.5Ghz slot it will not start at 1.5Ghz and not running at 1.5Ghz currently (obviously ) without an intervention by the user...
some phones cant overclock no matter what you try, some cant undervolt no matter what. even though the hardware is the same, there are very many variations. but overall, id say a majority can overclock over 1.5ghz if you do it right
@simms22,sorry I don't understand what you mean,I edited my post but I never said the opposite...
I see,I forgot the also about Glados and Air kernel...And I know Trinity kernel,no worries...

The CPU silicon is what decides how much you can overclock. Some users have a beastly silicon that lets them overclock far beyond 1500 Mhz (to like 1800 Mhz) while some has a silicon that only lets you overclock slightly before giving in.

Hi estimated community.
I wanted to know if i can apply the Overclock to 900 Mhz over the installed Merruk Technology Kernel Pre 2.0
I tought Merruk Kernel would overclock my phone to 1024 Mhz cause i see a picture of CPU Master showing it, but then realize than this actually dont do that, and stay in 832 Mhz.
Thats why i would like to know if i can do this overclock to 900 Mhz over the Merruk Kernel, it is compatible? Would it work good?
Ill be thanksfull with your answers
By the way, i dont think it cares cause it says its compatible with all roms, but im using ChobitsDigitalis v2 Reloaded.
this is the overclock im meaning http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629348
should i do it or keep it like it is... mmm

that's merruk 'bug'. nothing other 312mhz and 832mhz works. not 1ghz, not 900mhz. the reason why 900mhz (or 1ghz, i forgot) lag is not because instability like people's say. the reason is because cpu always working on 312mhz (but in display it's still show 900mhz/1ghz).

Either supercharge it or just overclock more (you don't want it to be higher but still want your phone to be faster?).

1.6 Ghz should be the rough estimate for a stable phone. Anything above 1.6 for me and my phone starts to heat up fast. At 1.9 I could probably cook an egg with it.

Have you tried changing your cpu governor? SmartassV2 allows me to overclock quite a bit over what the standard governors allow me to.

So that's why my phone wouldn't stop freezing and restarting at one point yesterday! Changing the governor and slightly underclocking fixed it.
I recommend installing Project Lard
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265510&page=6
It truely Works, I spent ages testing it and Performance wise Its SuperSmooth!,C:
I've noticed that my S3 gets hot quite often and am considering to undervolt my Galaxy s3.
Does undervolting interfere with the performance of the S3? I am the type of user who HATES when there are lags when you scroll through pages, homescreen, and app drawer.
Undervolting is just lowering how much voltage a given frequency uses. It doesnt effect tye performance. The only thing you need to be careful of is instability. Not all chips can undervolt the same. If you undervolt too much for your chip you will get freezes and reboots.

That is exactly right. I have two S3 phones on the FAUX Kernel .10u Version and one can under volt to 800 for min frequency and the other will not boot with these settings. Through trial and error both are stable but voltages are different.

Thanks for the reply. Could you tell me what Kernel / Governor settings and how much i should undervolt to get a stable setting?
It would be great if the performance was still there while saving battery.

I use this kernal : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756776
Things to know about the kernal:
-If you are using a stock based rom use the sammy version.
-You need to reflash the kernal after any rom flash or you lose wifi/bluetooth
The kernal is already undervolted a little. If you want more you need to do some trial and error to find what works for your chip.

oh my bad, then maybe you should start with telling me what the differences are, you surely know better...
it is really my fault, as defy and defy+ are two completely different phones with different hardware and should also be treated differently...
or just accept the fact that they are the exact same phone, and you can overclock them the same way... -.-'
maybe next time you should search before posting stupid questions which have been answered hunders of times and maybe you dont have to tell someone off who has more knowledge in the field than you... your ignorance pisses me off... good luck with others helping you!

You say that they are the same but DEFY is 0.8ghz and DEFY+ is 1ghz (and they have not the same battery but I think we dont care here isn't it ?),
then the values will not be the same isn't it ?
Overclocking would be :
DEFY is 0.8ghz to 1ghz
DEFY+ is 1ghz to 1.2ghz
No ?
Sorry Im new and French..

Ohh ok thank you so if I understand well Motorola have overclocked Defy+ to 1GHz by defaut ?
But we still can overclock it more ? 1200MHz is good isn't it ?

yes, i think the 36"10" and "20" it makes reference to the underclock or overclock, you can overclock this cpu up to 1400, or more i think, but you can risk your cpu lifetime, 1200 is the maximum clock that you can overclock without damages (like droid 2 global), in any case, for a normal user, 1000 is enough, or 1100 maybe, but on 1200 or more, your battery wont last long.

there is no such thing as omap 3610 and 3620, only 3630, which is present in both defy and defy+ (btw, this is the processor, not the chipset... or both, but it is used to reference the cpu). and you can easily overclock the defy to 1.2 and even above that. my phone (normal defy) was running stable at 1.35GHz, so dont be afraid to OC to 1.2GHz!

set it in bootmenu, and forget setvsel. i bootmenu, change frequencies/vsels to the values you like, and i recommend changing to either boosted or smartass governor, and dont forget to save at the bottom!
i have used setvsel for months, but it doesnt make sense to have an app for doing what the built-in bootmenu already can, it just takes space in both rom and ram.
Ok Thanks you very much dude, ill try to do it
Im Just back from the Bootmenu i dont understand anything lol, ill try to find a good tutorial
set these:
vsel1: 17 freq1: 300
vsel2: 32 freq2: 600
vsel3: 47 freq3: 900
vsel4: 62 freq4: 1200
governor: smartass (or boosted, try them both out and choose the on you like more)
go to the bottom and save, reboot!

about a year ago i spent quite a lot of time testing cpu settings and i figured out a formula for setting vsel for a specific frequency: vsel=(MHz/20)+2
this is stabil for most people (theres even an app based on this formula ).
to know more about governors, read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369817!
about smartassv2, it has been implemented into the quarx nightlies with the name boosted, so no need to flash.
although i still flash the original zip, because that flashes sio scheduler too.
