Hi, im just about to flash leedroids 2.2.3 rom, which can oc to 1.8 ghz with setcpu, just wondering if there are any dangers in having it at this speed? anything to be aware of ?
It might fry your device, it might not, you never know. There's no need to run it at 1,8ghz. I'd recommend max 1,2ghz for daily use though everything runs smoot at 1ghz already.
If you overclock to 1.8Ghz you will increase the risks to fry your CPU(and hence, your device will be destroyed). Lol.
Also overclocking too high can drain your battery real fast. As per Hawks556, max 1.2Ghz would be fine.(perhaps it is almost to optimal)
I overclock mine at 1.16Ghz and it is already very smooth in LeeDrOid.
You may sometimes wish to overclock it until 1.8GHz is just to show off to your peers only. Maybe through quadrants. But later on make sure you underclock it back.
Cheers. =)
thanks for the help, lol whole thing just froze while i was reading it better underclock it lol : /
OC up to 1.5ghz should not harm your device.
Take a look at ths HTC Flyer: it has the same CPU as the DHD but it's set to 1.5ghz by default.
So there is no risk in overclocking up to 1.5ghz in my opinion.

Kernel is not stable, and development is on hold
Ok i have created a new kernel for sense based roms, including my rom TurboFire.
Features
Allows overclocking upto 864MHz
Default is 600/245 screen on 245/245 screen off
Supports ext2/3/4
Supports swap
As always make a backup first before flashing this.
This kernel includes the andrev_oc overclocking daemon. It is a native written program than changes the frequency based on phone state. This is better than the smartass govenor as you have more control, and its more stable, quicker and more effective than using setcpu to control frequencies based on phone state.
It can be controlled by OC/UV Beater which is included in the .zip. You must uninstall all cpu control apps first or it will automatically deactivate.
Remember when overclocking, use TEMP activate for a few minutes before using perm activate to make sure it is stable.
This does not work with CM7 or ICS based roms, so dont try it, I will work on a CM7 version tomorrow.

V3:http://djpc.org.uk/roms/TurboKernelV3-by-djpc.zip
OC daemon and control:http://djpc.org.uk/roms/OC-Turbo-deamon.zip
Changelog:
V2
Wifi maybe fixed (need testers)
Changed acpu tables - new max overclock 864MHz
V3
Kernel and daemon are now seperate for testing purposes
Hopefully fixed (fingers crossed)
OK im sorry guys, i jumped the gun a little on this phone, unfortunatly the way the processor's clock generator works we can only have multiples of a certain frequency, which leaves us capped at 864MHz, this is a physical barrier associated with the way the hardware was made and no dev will be able to change this.
I hope to have voltage tweaking working at some point so people can run there devices at higher frequencies.

Great! Can't wait, I wish you luck. I'm really hoping more development steps on the scene for MarvelC.
I hope my phone dosent blow up.
I have trouble overclocking to 787 mhz, I don't think about 1.5 Ghz, but I am willing to try.

It will if you pick 1.5. Be CAREFUL.

Never can't be true, 806 is the max. Even I cant reach 806 Mhz.
He just wants to be popular .
But the extra features are great if the kernel would work well .
OC doesn't work. Max is 600 mhz
At 1.5GHz it would be as hot as holding the sun in your hand lol
Would simply burn your CPU out!!!
Be careful guys.
just add another core to ws
Sry, but are you crazy announcing 1.5 ghz, even the desire s with a stock speed of 1 ghz is only up to 1.8 ghz stable, that would mean the wfs could only be overclocked to 1ghz without getting unstable, but it would also get hot with this speed.
Swyped from my desire s running damn sweet ice cream
I set 1.5GHz as the max as that number is an arbitrary number, im not expecting people to achieve this (if the kernel work properly anyway) and i doubt the phone would be stable enough to even get hot at that speed; i set it there so people can try as high as they dare rather than as high as the kernel maker wants them to go. As for those saying that anything above 800mhz is impossible, im trying to get voltage control working so that you can increase the voltage slightly (this i will cap to sensible values or else you can fry stuff) so you can hit higher numbers. My desire z has run at 1.9GHz before, from stock of 800MHz, and im not a lucky one. I know its a totaly different phone but these MSM phones can overclock really well normally.
I am going to look into the wifi today and get that fixed as well as fixing the frequency table, as well as having higher frequency's i will have more in the 600-800 mhz region for those who have phones that dont like to be overclocked. I also hope to build a CM7 version and one for the marvelc as they have been left in the cold atm for OC kernels.
PS: This dev work is difficult for me as i dont personally own a WFS for testing, if people want to get this kernel and coming roms working fast with no bugs i need people to read the dev team thread and join the irc, we already have a few guys in there and when things have gotten going it is very productive, benjamin as nearly gotten the touchscreen working for ICS now
Good work, can you check your pm's?
I ask again here, can you edit jikantaru's kernel so max is 600 Mhz and not 806 Mhz?
Thanks

Hi,
is it possible to overclock the GNEX CPU to 1.5GHz and GPU to 512MHz with a rooted stock galaxy nexus?
Is there an app to do it?
Is it difficult to achieve 1.5GHz, I mean, do I need overvolt or every GNEX is able to achieve 1.5GHz?

Flash a kernel. Franco and Trinity can do 1.5ghz and 512mhz gpu.
I'm sure there are others too but I don't know for certain.

No, not with stock kernel.
not.some custom roms have built in the perofrmnce tab to control cpu speed.not all chips can hit 1,5 in normal conditions...personally i have to disable smart reflex and do undervolting.there are some devs that has a control app on market that control all of these aspects.reccomended.personally i use glados kernel+glados control app.

third party kernel? what???
you need a custom kernel that is capable of overclocking that high. with the stock kernel you can not oc. so, its either a stock kernel or a custom kernel.. whats a third party kernel?

Not necessary to overvolt at 1.5Ghz,it depends of the kernel you will use and his settings.Mainly the voltage at 1.5Ghz.
And no,not every Gnex can run at 1.5Ghz,not all CPU are equal, some can and others can't...Same thing for the GPU overclock at 512Mhz some can and others can't...
Glados kernel and Air kernel can achieve a 1.5Ghz slot...
I think you should read more carefully the Dev section...
And if you want overclock you need an app, developer's application kernel like Glados,Franciscofranco and Morfic or a "generic" app like SetCpu,CPUTuner,System Tuner,etc...Because if I'm not wrong no kernel offer a 1.5Ghz at boot directly without an app or a script,so if you flash a custom kernel who allow a 1.5Ghz slot it will not start at 1.5Ghz and not running at 1.5Ghz currently (obviously ) without an intervention by the user...
some phones cant overclock no matter what you try, some cant undervolt no matter what. even though the hardware is the same, there are very many variations. but overall, id say a majority can overclock over 1.5ghz if you do it right
@simms22,sorry I don't understand what you mean,I edited my post but I never said the opposite...
I see,I forgot the also about Glados and Air kernel...And I know Trinity kernel,no worries...

The CPU silicon is what decides how much you can overclock. Some users have a beastly silicon that lets them overclock far beyond 1500 Mhz (to like 1800 Mhz) while some has a silicon that only lets you overclock slightly before giving in.

oh my bad, then maybe you should start with telling me what the differences are, you surely know better...
it is really my fault, as defy and defy+ are two completely different phones with different hardware and should also be treated differently...
or just accept the fact that they are the exact same phone, and you can overclock them the same way... -.-'
maybe next time you should search before posting stupid questions which have been answered hunders of times and maybe you dont have to tell someone off who has more knowledge in the field than you... your ignorance pisses me off... good luck with others helping you!

Hey dont be mad i didn't want to offend you
You say that they are the same but DEFY is 0.8ghz and DEFY+ is 1ghz (and they have not the same battery but I think we dont care here isn't it ?),
then the values will not be the same isn't it ?
Overclocking would be :
DEFY is 0.8ghz to 1ghz
DEFY+ is 1ghz to 1.2ghz
No ?
Sorry Im new and French..
But don't be mad I didn't want to offend you

Ohh ok thank you so if I understand well Motorola have overclocked Defy+ to 1GHz by defaut ?
But we still can overclock it more ? 1200MHz is good isn't it ?
Defy and Defy+ have not the same chipset (TI OMAP 3610 and TI OMAP 3620 I've saw that on http://www.gsmarena.com)) but same CPU you are sure ?

yes, i think the 36"10" and "20" it makes reference to the underclock or overclock, you can overclock this cpu up to 1400, or more i think, but you can risk your cpu lifetime, 1200 is the maximum clock that you can overclock without damages (like droid 2 global), in any case, for a normal user, 1000 is enough, or 1100 maybe, but on 1200 or more, your battery wont last long.

there is no such thing as omap 3610 and 3620, only 3630, which is present in both defy and defy+ (btw, this is the processor, not the chipset... or both, but it is used to reference the cpu). and you can easily overclock the defy to 1.2 and even above that. my phone (normal defy) was running stable at 1.35GHz, so dont be afraid to OC to 1.2GHz!
Thanks guys so im gonna overclock it to 1.2ghz with vsel calculator and setvsel i hope my phone is gonna be faster

set it in bootmenu, and forget setvsel. i bootmenu, change frequencies/vsels to the values you like, and i recommend changing to either boosted or smartass governor, and dont forget to save at the bottom!
i have used setvsel for months, but it doesnt make sense to have an app for doing what the built-in bootmenu already can, it just takes space in both rom and ram.
Ok Thanks you very much dude, ill try to do it
Im Just back from the Bootmenu i dont understand anything lol, ill try to find a good tutorial
set these:
vsel1: 17 freq1: 300
vsel2: 32 freq2: 600
vsel3: 47 freq3: 900
vsel4: 62 freq4: 1200
governor: smartass (or boosted, try them both out and choose the on you like more)
go to the bottom and save, reboot!

But 2 questions:
1. You said me to put those values because they are your favourites ones or because you found them somewhere ?
2. What's the difference between Smartass and Boosted ? And I heard about Smartass v2, should I install it ?
Thanks you so much !

about a year ago i spent quite a lot of time testing cpu settings and i figured out a formula for setting vsel for a specific frequency: vsel=(MHz/20)+2
this is stabil for most people (theres even an app based on this formula ).
to know more about governors, read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369817!
about smartassv2, it has been implemented into the quarx nightlies with the name boosted, so no need to flash.
although i still flash the original zip, because that flashes sio scheduler too.

It is exactly the same cpu as the S3 has afaik, and most S3 cpu`s crash at 1800 Mhz. The stock speed is fast enough for me as i overclocked the S3 to 1600 Mhz and it was allready fast imo. But we`ll see, still have to get my GN2 tuesday
Try the Tegrak Overclock module from the Play Store. Surely it's compatible with the Note 2. Works well with my GS3.
Supposedly it's a revision 2 chip in the N2.
Running all day long with 1.8 @ 1.275 and it's ROCK SOLID, and no extra heat for now!
Also running with nice undervolt and all freqs are stable. The device was already blazing fast, and I wasn't going to bother, but it was the easiest OC transition ever in my OC life, with first AndreiLux kernel for N2 ...

The Note 2 has a new revision of the CPU with higher yields. It should achieve higher clocks on the same voltage, or lower voltage on the same clocks. It is for example already voltaged a bit lower across the board than the S3.
