THANK YOU !!
I would just say read...but I did just type up a How-to for my buddy yesterday so copy/paste isn't out of the question. Ignore any personal specific things that are included. This is provided you have FULLY ROOTED your phone. I'm not liable for jacking anything up etc, etc.
Ok, here’s the quick and dirty.
Files you need: download on your phone
Radios:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/yqau3epazcyqdu3/EVO_Radio_2.15.00.07.28.zip
http://www.mediafire.com/file/72eqb78zi71abk8/EVO_WiMAX_26023_R01.zip
ROM: Only choose one
Rooted version of Stock OTA: http://massmirror.com/7f191510efa40b999eec50b09e9dd116.html
*or*
The ROM I’m running now: http://deck.alexauv.com/s3vo_1_2-D_080310_005245.zip
[Edit: I have since updated to Fresh 3.1.0.1]
Download quickboot from the marketplace
Procedure:
1. Move the radios and the ROM you chose to the root of your SD card using whatever file explorer you use. I’m pretty sure you have ES File Explorer on the ROM you have now.
2. Open up People from your app drawer and navigate to Menu>Import/Export>Export to SD Card. This puts a .vcf file on your SD Card. Import after the flash to get your contacts back.
3. You should be good with titanium backup by now. Just remember after you flash, start Titanium, click the problems button, and download the new version of busybox. To do your back up, tap Backup/Restore>Menu>Batch>Restore Missing apps + Data
4. Open up the quickboot program you downloaded from the market and tap “Recovery”. Let the phone reboot to the console.
5. Go to Backup/Restore and press Power to select.
a. Select Nand Backup by highlighting and pressing power
b. Press Power again to confirm
c. If you have issues with 2.2 you can always come back here and restore your current ROM by using your Nand
6. Go back to the previous menu by pressing both up/down on the volume toggle. This can be tricky at times.
7. Highlight Wipe, press power to select
a. Highlight and press power to select, then power again to confirm on the following:
i. Wipe Data/Factory reset
ii. Wipe Cache
iii. Wipe Dalvik – cache
b. Return back to the main menu by holding in both volume keys
8. Navigate to Flash zip from sdcard
9. Highlight and press power to select the Radio-2.15.00.07.28.zip
a. Press power to confirm
b. If it doesn’t take you back to the main menu, return to the main menu and select “Reboot System Now”
i. This reboots the phone and updates the radio.
ii. If it brings you to a black screen with a phone and arrows making a circle, don’t worry this is normal
iii. Once it’s finished, it should reboot back to recovery
10. Return back to flash zip from sdcard
a. Highlight and select the Wimax update26023
i. Follow the same process for the radio
ii. Phone will boot back to recovery
11. Return to flash zip from sdcard
a. Highlight and select the ROM you chose to download
i. Press power to confirm
ii. Sit back and enjoy the script
b. If it does not take you to the main menu when it is finished. Return to the main menu and reboot your phone.
12. Congratulations…you are now running a rooted version of the 2.2 update.
Unless stated otherwise, if you’re on XDA and you see a ROM you want to try out, follow these same steps except the updating radios. You can make Nand backups of each ROM so you can switch between them and see which ones you like better.
That was FAST!! my first post and i'm really impress! TKS!
1. Flash one of the three CYANOGEN RC1, CYANOGEN NIGHTLYS, OR AVALUNCHMOD all are FROYO...IF YOU WANT ONLY FROYO NO SENSE GO WITH CYANOGEN RC1 OR NIGHTLY...BTW CYANOGEN MOD ARE VERY STABLE.
2. BOOT INTO RECOVERY VIA ROM MANAGER (IN THE APP STORE) OR MANUAL 1. POWER OFF THE PHONE. 2. HOLD DOWN THE VOLUME DOWN AT THE SAME TX POWER ON THE PHONE THE WILL PUT YOU IN RECOVERY. 3. STROLL DOWN AND CLICK ON RECOVERY WITH THE POWER BUTTON. 4. DO A NANDROID BACK FIRST THEN FLASH WHATEVER ROM ZIP YOU DOWNLOADED. 5. WHEN IT FINISH INSTALL THE ROM REBOOT THE PHONE. AND YOURE DONE! (TOASTS METHOD)
3. REMEMBER TO DO A NANDROID BACKUP JUST IN CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG...

We try to take care of people here. Never be afraid to ask questions, but it never hurts to research what you're trying to do either. Most of the devs will give you exactly what you need to flash their roms in the post and as far as the process to flash goes, those threads aren't too far either.
Read, learn, live, mod...gotta love it
Hi guys so i flashed to ARHD 5.20 using rom manager and i wiped data and cache with it, but now i'm stuck at the splashscreen.
I tried entering recovery by holding volume down and power button but it's not working.
Please help!!!!1
PLEASE Somebody has a FIX FOR THIS I AM STUCK TOO AND NO RECOVERY MENUE NOTHING.....PLEAS I PAID SO MUCH for this phone...what posibilities i have
I do not know much about flashing ROMs but i flashed ARHD myself without problems, i dont know if this works with other roms too.
You have to flash this ROM in cwm, not using ROM Manager.
Make sure u placed "Format data partition using EXT4 file system" script and ROM on your SD card. what you can try is removing the battery and place it back after like 10s and then holding the power- and volumedown button and see what happens. If you can get into recovery then chose "install zip from sdcard" and then "chose zip from sd card". first chose the "Format data partition using EXT4 file system" and when finished same thing with rom, then reboot.
The only problem is i don't know if every phone has this recovery mode, so i don't know if this helps...
mate calm down.
go in fast boot ( power down the phone. keep pressed the vol down button and then power up the phone while keeping the vol down button pressed.) download |CWM 3.2.0.0 and reflash it and there you go...!

Read through this post, i'ts a very simple instruction on how to flash CWM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003723&highlight=clockworkmod
If you follow these steps and then flash ROM the way i wrote, everything sould be alright
Yes if the phone turns on or displays a charging light it is never bricked. All you need to do is reinsert the battery after 20 seconds of having it removed and then try to enter recovery again. If that doesnt work reinstall CWM from the link reaper90 provided above and take it from there. We'll be here every step of the way
Thx to all your anwsers,i installed ARHD so often and had no problems after installing ARHD 5.2.0 i had the same issue.
after calmed down i unpluged the battery, reinstalled ARHD and now it works great .. what do you guys thing about flashing radio...do i need it?
It is recommended to flash the radio, but i think not necessary, if you have no battery drain and signal strenght is good enough. But if you try, download from the link provided by mike1986, it comes with an instruction on how to and everything else what is needed to flash it.
Is there more n00b friendly instructions than this to install AOKP? Sorry I am a former Blackberry owner, I am a little nervous but I am tech savvy. I just don't want to brick my phone..
My phone is rooted.. I have the latest AOKP and gapps from the AOKP site.
1. Make sure you're on the latest CWM
2. MAKE A NANDROID
3. wipe data/factory reset in recovery
4. flash ROM
5. flash Gapps
6. reboot
=
1. I have the latest ROM manager.
2. No idea what or how to use it... (I did a full backup with Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit, good enough?)
3. Is this done in the ROM manager, I think so, or when I am in bootloader mode maybe?
4. Flashing it I assume with ROM manager, pick the zip and voila..
5. No idea about this one. With ROM manager too?
6. Dah.. I think I can handle this step..
Appreciate any help.. remember n00b, never had an android and never did anything with my BB. N00b. Thanks!
Since you are already rooted.... I'll keep it simple. You can backup your ROM in ROM manager.
Boot to CWM
Wipe data (wipes cache too)
Go to advanced, wipe Dalvik
Flash AOKP
Flash GAPPS
Reboot
Flash kernel if you are using a modified one. If you flash a kernel after you boot, just wipe dalvik.

You don't have to flash through "Rom Manager" its much easier in ClockworkMod Recovery (assuming you have it installed, check at the top of Rom Manger to see if you have the latest recovery). To get there, you just have to hold down "Power + Volume Up + Volume Down," when you're there, you can move up and down with your volume up/down buttons and press "enter" with the power button. From there you can create a backup (backup and restore --> backup), wipe data/cache/dalvik (wipe data/factory reset), and flash your Rom/Gapps (install zip from sdcard --> choose zip from sdcard --> download --> find your rom/gapps). You should reboot after that, and it'll be set.
Ok that's cool..
few questions.. boot to CWM is that the recovery manager on my phone? or Do you mean select in ROM manager "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
Go to advanced, wipe Dalvik, I expect that is an option when phone is booted. I don't see that in ROM manager.
Flash Kernel? Now I'm kinda confused. I thought AOKP has the kernel, am I using a modified one? Uh, I just unlocked and rooted this with GNR Toolkit nothing else.
Another question I am curious in ROM manager, where do these rom backups go? Should I not put those on my pc hd somewhere safe?

You must have flashed ClockwordMod Recovery already... at the top in the Rom Manager application where it says Flash ClockwordMod Recovery, it should have something saying "Current Recovery: 5.5.0.4" and "Latest Recovery 5.5.0.4." Make sure your current and latest match up. If they do, then you already have CWM installed. Then you can boot into it from the instructions I provided in my post above (turn off phone, hold down power + volume up + volume down).
AOKP has a kernel, you can choose to download and flash a separate kernel if you want.
The rom backups go to your virtual SD card, and will not get wiped when you do a data wipe, so they are secure (i.e. you don't have to put them on your computer if you don't want to).
anton that makes sense mostly but..
"and flash your Rom/Gapps (install zip from sdcard --> choose zip from sdcard --> download --> find your rom/gapps). You should reboot after that, and it'll be set."
If I
"From there you can create a backup (backup and restore --> backup), wipe data/cache/dalvik (wipe data/factory reset)"
Wouldn't that mean there would be nothing on the SD card to flash with?

No. Wiping data/cache/dalvik does not touch SD Card contents.

Yes, CWM is the recovery. Flashing CWM only flashes it to your phone, you still have to boot into it.
Don't wipe or anything from Rom Manger, that's an option that I don't recommend. From Rom Manager you can boot to CWM, do that and do the above I posted. You should be fine.
Just remember, do a factory reset, wipe dalvik, flash new ROM, then flash GAPPS. After that you are good. First boot will take some time.
You need to format /system too. It's under Mounts and storage.

Ok this is what you need to do.
Step 1: Open ROM Manager and install CMR (first option). You need to make sure you select the correct version of your phone (verizon is CMDA all others are GSM, I think). After it is finished installing proceed to step 2.
Step 2: In ROM Manager select "Reboot into Recovery". It will reboot and you will see the Google splash screen then a black page with blue text. If you see this proceed to step 3.
Step 3: use the volume keys to navigate to the option "Backup and Restore". When you have highlighted this option use the power button to select it. You will then a select "backup". Let it do its thing (will take a few minuets). When its done it will return you to the first screen then continue to step 4.
Step 4: Select "wipe data/factory reset". You will be taken to a screen with a bunch of "no"s and one "yes" if you are sure you want to wipe then select "yes" and let it do its thing. When its done it will return you to the main menu. Proceed to step 5.
Step 5: Select "install zip from sdcard". Select "choose zip from sdcard". Browse the ROM file. Select it and you will be at the no no no... yes screen. Select "yes" and let it do its thing. When its done you will be taken to the screen that says "choose zip from sdcard". Select that option again and browse to the gapps file. Flash it like the ROM. When you are done it will take you to the "choose zip from sdcard" screen. From there select "*****Go Back*****" then Select the first option "reboot system now". Your phone will now reboot. Note that it will take a lot longer than usual.
Also note that navigating CMR is a pia because the volume keys are jumpy.
Enjoy...

1. In Rom Manager, select back up and restore. This creates an exact back up of what your phone has on it and the settings.
2. In Rom Manager, select reboot in recovery. Using the volume rocker to move to wipe/data factory reset. Select option with power button. When that is complete, select install zip from sd card. Select the AOKP Rome file and flash it. Select install rom from sd card a second time and flash the Gapps (google app pack). The reboot phone.
Wiping dalvik is little redundant IMO, most custom Roms are including scripts to wipe automatically.
Since you did a factory reset (a must when changing Roms), you will need to set your phone back up.
You will leave your back up of your sd card as this is the only way you can restore via Rom Manager.
When you flash the rom, it will come with the kernel. Some prefer different kernels and will flash those as well. I have used kernels by Heyitslou since my Incredible days and flashed his V3 defiant with AOKP. It can be found on Rootzwiki.
Ok guys, many thanks. I think I got enough info.
@mentose457 I got the ROM manager installed and under CWM recovery the current and latest do match up. Do I still need to do that?
That is what I was looking for a n00b guide. Hehehe! Thanks everyone I will study those instruction and try this out.
Appreciate your help and patience guys..

I don't see anything in ROM Manager that specifically says install CMR (first option). First option is Flash ClockworkMod Recovery and it has a latest and current ...5.5.0.2
When I unlocked and rooted I had installed ROM Manager etc and I see a current and latest... they are the same... blah blah blah 5.5.0.2. Do I still need to do this step?

Errm.. I used ROM Manager I selected Backup rom, i see the android guy and see files backing up. Which turns out to be the same as your step 2 and 3. LOL! hopefully multiple backups dont hurt. LOL I'm currently finishing step 3 I guess. Next is wipe etc.
No offense to guy who did rom, but a Pink unicorn with rainbow hair.... err
No offense but generally speaking a macho guy like me hopes nobody will see a pink unicorn on his android phone. Haha!

A lot of people report problems restoring Apps+Data using Titanium Backup, so I recommend only restoring the App part and not the Data part if you want to have the least amount of FCs. Unless you're restoring from market... then disregard this post. =P
I have my device unlocked and rooted but when I try and flash with fastboot I can see the kernel logo but then my phone turns off and starts up normally? I have seen people put the kernel in the SD card but when I do that it doesn't show up? I am also on .69 Can someone help me?
To flash a kernel;
1. open file where fastboot is;this is where the boot.img you've downloaded should be too
2. press shift+right click in window and choose 'open command window here'
3. switch off/remove battery from phone, then hold menu button whilst connecting usb. led should be blue.
4 in command window type 'fastboot flash boot boot.img, or if you've renamed the boot.img file then the new name
fastboot will show progress(normally takes under 1-2 secs),once finished disconnect, reboot

If you're getting the kernel flash screen then press down volume key repeatedly when led/button leds come on during boot. That enters cwm menu.

Depends on which kernel you're using. Basically, if you've used fastboot to boot the kernel correctly then when you reboot you should see the kernel flashscreen e.g. doomkernel has doomlords android in cloak, etc. If that's the case, enter cwm by repeatedly spamming(pressing) the back key or volume key once the lights come on. You'll get a menu with cwm(clockword mod recovery) options such as format phone, backup/restore, install zip, and others. If you're flashing a rom then make sure it's on your sd card, use 'install zip' and select the rom(or update) zip to flash, and confirm. If it's a different dev from the rom your current rom then also select factory reset to wipe any previous data, and advanced/wipe dalvik, to ensure a clean install. then reboot.

To make it easier could you provide me a good rom and kernel that go together?
If you want ics then jj's or krabappels are probably the easiest, but use the ics beta kernel. Arconium with doomkernel 21(gingerbread) is probably your best bet due to the support.

After flashing AOKP build 6 and the gapps package, everything was running fine until the phone randomly shut down and rebooted.
After turning back on the boot animation continued, figured I'd wait it out and it still continued and after several minutes and pulling the battery I tried holding down the Volume Down and Power Button but the image says it's downloading please don't turn off this item. After waiting and waiting the phone shuts off and starts the reboot and the boot animation continues again.
This has never happened before and not sure exactly how to get the phone running again. What should I do?

After flashing AOKP build 6 and the gapps package, everything was running fine until the phone randomly shut down and rebooted.
After turning back on the boot animation continued, figured I'd wait it out and it still continued and after several minutes and pulling the battery I tried holding down the Volume Down and Power Button but the image says it's downloading please don't turn off this item. After waiting and waiting the phone shuts off and starts the reboot and the boot animation continues again.

Click to collapse
if you can still get to recovery(power+both volume keys, then select recovery mode with volume keys, click power to confirm), try wiping cache and dalvik cache and reflashing JUST your rom, if it boots DONT flash the same gapps package, download a new one: http://tinyw.in/C7XP
I was able to open recovery
1. advanced
2. wipe dalvik cache
3. install zip
4. reboot
it's still running just the animation at this point. I have the same gapps package, didn't flash it, just the rom and it's still not loading. I have a feeling it was the wiping cache and dalvik cache part, is there a step I'm missing?
Wipe?
I looked at another forum, I'm guessing this is what I'm suppose to do for a full wipe?
Volume up, power button, and home button all pressed together for a couple of seconds.
Wipe the cache partition
Go to Advanced and wipe the dalvik and batt stats
Go to mounts and storage and select it.
Go to format / system and select it.
Scroll down to format system and select yes.
Go to format / data and select it
Scroll down to format data and select yes.
Go to format / cache and select it.
Scroll down to format cache and select yes.
Now go back and install the rom from the internal or external sd card.
If I do this and it still doesn't work, will I have to worry some more?
If you wipe data you will no longer have any sdcard contents. Then you come crying back here and want to know how to fix that. The easy solution here? Boot to your custom recovery and do 'factory reset'

And wiping battery stats, cache, dalvik... Is a myth.
