[Q] Need Help! Can't get into recovery - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys so i flashed to ARHD 5.20 using rom manager and i wiped data and cache with it, but now i'm stuck at the splashscreen.
I tried entering recovery by holding volume down and power button but it's not working.

Please help!!!!1
PLEASE Somebody has a FIX FOR THIS I AM STUCK TOO AND NO RECOVERY MENUE NOTHING.....PLEAS I PAID SO MUCH for this phone...what posibilities i have

I do not know much about flashing ROMs but i flashed ARHD myself without problems, i dont know if this works with other roms too.
You have to flash this ROM in cwm, not using ROM Manager.
Make sure u placed "Format data partition using EXT4 file system" script and ROM on your SD card. what you can try is removing the battery and place it back after like 10s and then holding the power- and volumedown button and see what happens. If you can get into recovery then chose "install zip from sdcard" and then "chose zip from sd card". first chose the "Format data partition using EXT4 file system" and when finished same thing with rom, then reboot.
The only problem is i don't know if every phone has this recovery mode, so i don't know if this helps...

mate calm down.
go in fast boot ( power down the phone. keep pressed the vol down button and then power up the phone while keeping the vol down button pressed.) download |CWM 3.2.0.0 and reflash it and there you go...!

Read through this post, i'ts a very simple instruction on how to flash CWM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003723&highlight=clockworkmod
If you follow these steps and then flash ROM the way i wrote, everything sould be alright

Yes if the phone turns on or displays a charging light it is never bricked. All you need to do is reinsert the battery after 20 seconds of having it removed and then try to enter recovery again. If that doesnt work reinstall CWM from the link reaper90 provided above and take it from there. We'll be here every step of the way

Thx to all your anwsers,i installed ARHD so often and had no problems after installing ARHD 5.2.0 i had the same issue.
after calmed down i unpluged the battery, reinstalled ARHD and now it works great .. what do you guys thing about flashing radio...do i need it?

It is recommended to flash the radio, but i think not necessary, if you have no battery drain and signal strenght is good enough. But if you try, download from the link provided by mike1986, it comes with an instruction on how to and everything else what is needed to flash it.

Starting 3 threads on the same subject won't help, and is quite annoying.
Keeping everything in one thread will help people to help you.
Can You reach The recovery?
From there go to installation zip and install a new ROM (previously downloaded an copied to the root of your SD)
From recovery usually you can activate SD card for transfering files from the pc.If not, insert the SD on the pc in order to copy the rom.
Dont forget to swipe all from recovery before that and i Hope that you already made a backup of everything with titanium

If you can't enter The recovery i don't know how you can flash a new rom.
Maybe you can describe one by one all the steps you made in order to understand where is the problem.
1. Goto http://unrevoked.com and download the software
2. You now have a choice of recovery, Amon RA has released an SLCD version of his recovery, which in my opinion is much better, it has a few more features than Clockwork. I recommend Amon RA, but the choice is yours.
Amon RA Recovery v1.7.0.1 R5 SLCD: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4481275/recovery-RA-desire-v1.7.0.1-R5-SLCD.img
Clockwork v2.5.0.7 SLCD:http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.zip
3. Go to HBOOT, this is done by shutting down your phone and powering on the device while holding the Power button down and pushing Volume down at the same time, once HBOOT is loaded do a wipe (Clear Storage). You can navigate the menus by using the volume rocker and the Power button to select your option.
4. Load Unrevoked and load the custom SLCD recovery file on your PC:
Goto File>Custom Recovery and point it to the recovery image that you downloaded in step 2.
5. Restart your phone, it will take a few minutes because you did a wipe, just wait it will load (up to 5 minutes). As soon as the welcome screen loads plug your phone in to the PC and Unrevoked should do it's thing. If Unrevoked doesn't start, then hit the Menu button go to Settings --> Applications --> Development and enable USB debugging.
6. The phone will restart a couple of times, and will look like it's hanging on the HTC screen but it's not! If the HTC screen is present for more than 5 minutes pull your battery and start again ( I had to do this a couple times myself). If Unrevoked pauses half way through its process, it could be because for some reason you don't have the proper drivers installed. You can load them as Unrevoked does the root process, while the phone is rebooting if Unrevoked pauses and Windows prompts you for a driver point it to the C:\android\tools directory and it will load the drivers and Unrevoked will continue its root process.
7. When Unrevoked is finished you will be left at the recovery screen,
8. *** VERY IMPORTANT*** Before restarting do a "wipe cache partition", "factory reset". And now would be a good time for a Nandroid Backup
9. Now reboot, and Android should load. Check for Superuser Permissions app, if you see it you're good if not restart from step
I followed these instructions i did got superuser on my phone but when I installed busybox and titanium backup it said its not rooted and I installed rom manager from market and try load my leedroid from SD card and it reboot the phone and that was it. I can go to HBOOT but when I pick recovery it turns off the phone or maybe it just blackscreen. My phone did work till I installed the ROM manager from market and messed it up. And thank you soo much for your replys
So You have amon ra?
Go to recovery And make wipe of everything except battery.
Then, put the battery out from The Desire.
Put it back, enter The recovery again and allow SD card (i dont remember now exactly The name of the option) After conecting the Desire to the pc.
Transfer From The pc The new rom.
If you dont have one, look for Modaco custom r9 for Desire, because it is very close to the stock rom. In order to get it you will have to pay but it's worth the price and in the future you Will have full access to new custom ROMS!
Then go (in recovery of amon ra) to flash zip And flash the new rom.
Sorry is recovery when using press volume down and power?
Ya I do have amon ra
And when I go press down volume and power and plug USB to computer my computer doesn't find it. It doesn't show up but it does show on phone USB is plugged
Ok,You press down volume. Now choose 2nd option (recovery) by moving vol down and when in recovery option press power to select.
Desire reboots and enters in amon ra recovery.
From the options choose usb-ms toggle and connect the Desire to the pc. Rest of the steps as explained.
But when I choose recovery the screen goes dark or turns off not sure which 1. When I connect the USB only phone says HBOOT USB plugged nothing on computer
is" your" desire branded? e.g orange, telus
have you tried installing an official ruu preferably a wwe version?
If you enter the recovery and the screen swich off...i can't help you. I don't know how to bypass that issue!
I'm sorry

[Q] HELP! Phone stuck in endless reboot, after flashing the Super Circle Battery!

I had just rooted (for the first time) my phone using this guide;
http://www.htcdesireforum.com/htc-desire-how-to/(guide)-rootin-flashing-rom/
That root went perfect. After that I flashed LeeDrOiD V2.3c (first v2.3b then 2.3c), also I flashed the accompanying radio with the number that matched my baseband version.
Then I used Titanium backup to restore everything, and it was perfect. Everything good.
Then I thought the Super Circle Battery looked nice, and tried installing it. It's this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724778
I first tried to flash this zip file from that page; scbm_A_white_number.zip the same way I had just flashed LeeDrOiD. Nothing happened.
Then I went to The Ultimate Online Tool Kitchen ( http://circle.glx.nl/ ) which is where the Super Circle Battery guys tell you to go.
I chose Flashable zip only, and under "framework-res.apk" I chose my ROM Leedroid V2.3c. It then makes a zip file, and I tried flashing that.
That certainly did something, and when I rebooted afterwards it was stuck in endless reboot!
I can only go to the white screen and then ClockwordMOD recovery screen now. I tried doing a factory reset there, and wiping dalvik cache as well, but it just starts up Leedroid and then goes into endless Leedroid boots.
I've also tried doing a hard reset, but it still just loads up the Leedroid loader, and goes into endless boot.
Please help!

That's what I thought (or hoped for), the problem is I can't get the Leedroid ROM zip on to my SD (be course I can't open it as a disc drive with my USB in the boot screen) , and it's not on there any more after I flashed it the first time.

if you put your device in recovery mode, (hold vol down and press power when device is off, then choose recovery from the menu) scroll down to where it says mounts and storage, choose this then choose, mount usb storage. you can connect your cable and use your sd card as a disk drive.

Probably or you can restore a nandroid. You did make one of course before flashing mods
Sometimes it just takes that long to flash the Circle Batt zip. When I was still on Lee, I kind of panicked too when my Desire got into the LeeDroid bootloop. Did several battery pulls, and was just about to give up when I left it to boot by itself for about 10 more minutes (too long, I know), and voila--the circle batt indicator showed up on the top bar, right alongside the network signal. Don't know why, but the Circle Batt zip actually took longer to flash than the ROM itself.

Please Help!!! phone keeps looping after flashing ROM ICS by JM HTC WILDFIRE BUZZ

Hi All
Sorry for my bad English
I wanted to flash the following rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626331
but after flashing my phone keeps rebooting (looping on on boot)
On the same thread I came across a solution that creating a partition through recovery >> advance will fix the looping issue. But no matter which option is select in recovery menu the screen goes blank with REVOLUTIONARY logo in the center.
please HELP !!!
I flashed the rom through ROM MANAGER app in market
I have flashed other roms before and they worked fine but this one didn't.
Thanks in advance

I think what Lesicnik1 meant was: you use the power button to select recovery in HBOOT. In Clockworkmod you should use the trackball to select - not the power button
(although I remember slightly you could set the other too - but I'm not sure)
--- EDIT ---
On the other hand - if you already flashed other ROMs you should be used to that.
So if that's not your problem: have you tried to reflash this - or a different ROM? Besides that CM9 is officially experimental bootloops often are caused by not wiping caches. It's also a good idea to format system before flashing a totally different ROM.

I'm able to select the advanced option and I also created a partition EXT size 512 SWP size 0 but my phone is still not booting it keeps looping.
I have also noticed that very time I partition my SD card it gets completely formatted (even deleting the Zip file)
I have always been using the ROM manager app to install it worked fine but this rom keeps looping
should I partition and then install the Zip file or the other way ?
Am I doing any thing wrong .
Thanks again @Lesicnik1 and @eventcom
Partitioning the SD card does format it.
Do this.
Partition SD Card (not needed if you already did)
Go back to the main menu of the recovery
Mounts and Storage
Wipe Data
Wipe System
Connect USB cable to phone
Mount USB Storage
Put ROM's .zip file on
Re-flash ROM
I see (haven't read carefully) not an ICS ROM - just ICS style. If you used to have a CM ROM before wiping system shouldn't be necessary (but it wouldn't harm also) - I always do the following when flashing a new ROM: format system, wipe cache, flash the new ROM, flash GApps. The requirements of the thread say furthermore: "Wipe Dalvik,Cache and Data" - so first: have you done that?
Do you use custom mtd partitions on your phone? (as you always have to reflash the bravo-boot-file afterwards...)

Install ZIP from SD card on CWM Recovery doesnt work

So i decided to Factory reset my Wildfire which was on CM7 and had root and S off. after the reset was done, while I was in the process of Setting up the phone (where you touch the green android and set up google account and wifi) and then guess what, It force closed. I restarted the phone but it wont start it was stuck on the cm7 boot thing (where the blue android guy is on his skateboard) and it went on and On. so i decided that i have to flash the rom again. I go into Clockwork Mod using the Volume Down + Power button. and then it hangs for a few seconds, Even if i press the volume up/down button, nothing happens. After that, this appears :-
SD checking [some file name.zip]
image not found
[same thing again]
I go onto recovery mode. and go to Install ZIP from Sd card and when i Press it, nothing comes on. all i get is a black screen. absolutely nothing is on there. what can i do? the rom is on my sd card but it doesnt seem to find it i guess. Is my phone bricked or what? help will be much appreciated.
Sorry if i have posted in the wrong section. Im new here.
thanks
Regarding the fc while setup I have no idea what happened. You say you wanted to factory reset the phone - did you also format/wipe everything and reflash CM7?

that's pretty normal (also the few secs pause): Fastboot checks if there's a PC49IMG.zip to flash - after that you can boot into CWM (what seems to work until there).

don't think that the zip isn't found - guess that would end up in a error message. Probably CWM doesn't work correctly or the SD card is damaged. I'd check the SD card on the PC and would probably redownload the ROM, then, I'd check with a second SD card to make sure it's ok. If no success either try to reflash CWM (e.g. with fastboot, there are different methods - obviously doesn't work with CWM itself )
Sorry if i have posted in the wrong section. Im new here.

You are pressing the trackball aren't you??
I presume so as it seems you're getting as far as finding the zip but I'm pretty sure if you press the power button it takes you to a blank screen, its been a while since I used cwm on my willy..........
If it isn't that try flashing cwm again.

phone bricked? stuck at "this build is for.." screen

hi guys,
today i made a huge mistake. i was trying to deinstall the cm9 by just wiping my phone. accidentaly i made a "system wipe" with my recovery. now my phone ist stuck in the "this build is for development purposes only" screen. i tried to reboot into recovery via the aio kit - error: device not found. (led not flashing, not even when i connect it to the "normal" loading adapter). i just read another thread which ended in sending the device back to htc. i wonder if there is any possibility to safe my phone from that.

Are you able to acces the Bootloader by closing the phone and restart it by keeping pressed at same time VOLUME DOWN + POWER ?
Be careful: Do NOT press volume UP!, Do not hold Volume Down for too long!
Once you are in the bootloader you should be able to:
A:Go into recovery and repair it from there in you have the ROM on your SD card.
B:If you are unable to acces recovery mode from bootloader, try to use the All In One Tool and flash the TWRP Recovery (the one in the right part of the window) also, note that there are too version, CDMA and GSM, if you have a sim card flash GSM, if you do not have a simcard use CDMA.
Let me know how it went

Hm,
Well since you cant remove the battery on this phone, id suggest to just let it finish with what it has left off of the battery. once it is closed try to recharge it and then try to boot in recovery, ofc you might not be able to do this today, depends how much battery you had left when the problem started, but it's a chance, also if it's rooted you bootloader will be unlocked so i doubt HTC will grant you warranty for it (not 100% about this though). let us know if you manage to do any progress with it after you manage to make it close.
cheers

i just edited my post. managed to get into recovery (twrp). what do i have to do now?
Download a new rom and transfer it to your sd card, then flash it from your recovery.
If u have the ROM in the SD card just flash it and reboot other wise as he mentioned above

Ok, last night i went to sleep.
You now need to find a way to put a ROM on your SD card. whatever ROM you choose make sure you have the correct kernel for it (in every post for ROMs you will find a download link to the correct kernel aswell).
So what you do now (after you have the ROM .zip file on your SD card and your Kernel file in your PC) is:
-Put your phone into Bootloader, Select fast boot and connect the USB cable, and make sure it tells on your phone "FASTBOOT USB"
-Then in All in One select "Flash Kernel" and browse to the correct Kernel, and flash it.
-Reboot your phone in Recovery mode, you have the option in the fastboot screen.
-In the Recovery menu select Factory Reset -> Wipe System.
-While still in recovery go to "Install update from SD card" (or something similar) and choose the ROM .zip file, wait for it to be flashed
-reboot your phone (1st boot is always a bit slower, could take up to 5 minutes).
-after you get to your main screen, reboot the phone again and flash a Google Apps (gapps) .zip file. You will find the correct version from your ROM in the official thread of the ROM. You DO NOT run a factory reset, wipe system or anything like that for flashing Gapps.
Good luck.
got my phone working again. additionally i tried to "re-stock" my phone via a ruu.exe. now i have a new problem ( -.- ;D). my phone wont connect to wlan. it always hangs on "authenticating with wifi (dont know if translated it the right way)". some has an idea how to solve that problem?
p.s. sry for answering this late. had to do a lot of stuff for my finals :/
edit: was a problem with my router
flash a proper kernel
