Tethering with Focus - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

Hi,
I've got a Samsung focus on Bell (unlocked)
I have updated and unlocked the phone to 8107 and it seems I have the tethering function working but when I connect another computer to it, it says limited connectivity and doesn't get any data whereas I can surf the web on the phone itself...sometimes I will get a few mb of data but not much
Anything I can check to see if I enabled it right in the firmware?
Thanks.

NEW Settings for Cricket Android Plan??

as you all know we all had to put in our own custom settings and iptables into our android phones to get cricket working on our phones allowing us to access the marcket, internet, and apps.
it involves using autostart, u2nl, and replacing the APN's.
now all of that is to route all traffic trough the cricket proxy which only allows access to the internet trough port 8080.
but NOW as you all may know cricket offers an android phone plan which gives you unlocked 3G speed (yes my speed went up a little bit once i got the plan, to about 70KB/s) but i think it's not fully unlocked because i have all these things being routed trough their old proxy servers...
so does anyone know the new settings to configure your android phone with the cricket android plan?
supposedly on the plan description it says everything works, apps, market, everything!

can you give me a link to which forums exactly? there's several Q&A forums...

energy rom/no bloatware and access free att wifi

i got a quick question on anyone who has the windows mobile phone. I am curious for anyone who has the energy rom or the phone without any att bloatware. Can you still access att's free wifi from your phone?
I did a search and it appears that to get to the wifi you need to click on one of the att application so if we remove the bloatware, can we still use the free att wifi at all?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=571831
If you use a ROM that doesn't already come with the ATT wifi information, the information in that thread (particularly the cab at post 6) will get you what you need.
Found it with a quick search. Search is your friend.
Calling the wifi free is a little bit misleading, as you are paying for it as part of that onerous data fee on your phone bill.

[Q] Tethering Question - Ports?

OK fellas. Here's a good one for you. I use a Motorola hand-held for work with Windows Mobile on it. I'm in sales, so I use tethering with my phones to send out my orders every day while I'm at work (aka on the go).
Wifi tethering worked EXCELLENT with my Atrix 4G, no matter the ROM. I had a tethering plan, so I didn't need to worry. I got rid of that in pursuit of a WP7 phone and got a HTC Surround. Needless to say I panicked when the ROM didn't even HAVE a tethering option. So, I flashed a custom one. Bam, Wifi tethering worked great.
Fast forward to now, I have a Lumia 900. Nothing has changed, I have the DataPro 5GB Tethering plan, the phone has tethering and it works with my Laptop.. BUT not with my handheld. For whatever reason, it gets hung up on "Creating Data Port" (on the handheld) and will not proceed. Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening? Does the Lumia block certain ports or something, or do I have to switch phones/wait for a custom ROM?
Thanks fellas,
Nick
Probably not related Lumia. It uses standard WP7 tethering (with the added account check) feature. What's different is that all LTE phones use a new APN called pta in order to connect with LTE (even if you are not in a LTE area). This new APN is known to have additional layer of network filtering on AT&T side. Not much you can do about that. Not sure if it is related to your specific problem. But you can try to switch to older Phone or wap.cingular APN and see what happens (you will loss LTE).

May give it a shot. For some odd reason, it worked today. A few nights ago I removed and re-added the tethering plan online to my account (even though the phone tethered fine with my laptop) and today for the hell of it, I tried it with my work handheld and it went through . We'll see how consistent it is. Thanks for the input/solution, though!

Internet Sharing (Tethering) - AT&T Branded - Carrier Unlock

A while back, AT&T began offering unlock codes to Lumia 900 owners who either bought the phone outright or had satisfied the requirements of their contract. This has opened the door to using this device on other GSM carriers.
If you are using AT&T as your carrier, or an AT&T MVNO (such as Straight Talk or Net 10), you might want to stop reading. I was a subscriber to Straight Talk and never got Internet Sharing to work on my Lumia. Proceed at your own risk of frustration.
This thread is intended to carefully document my experience getting Internet Sharing to work on my carrier unlocked Lumia 900.
If you wish to enable Internet Sharing:
Call AT&T and ask for an unlock code. If you do not have a competitor SIM, you can produce the Unlock code prompt by dialing ##782# from the dialpad.
Connect your phone to a PC and backup your photos, videos, and music. You'll be doing a Hard Reset soon.
Remove the SIM and replace with a non AT&T SIM, such as T-Mobile.
Perform a Hard (Factory) reset by going to Settings -> About -> More Info -> Reset.
Perform the initial setup tasks using the advanced mode.
Press and hold POWER to turn the phone off. After 30 seconds, turn phone back ON.
After 1-2 minutes of the phone being powered on, be sure you have a data signal; verify this by opening a browser and navigating to a website.
After verifying you have a data signal, attempt to enable Internet Sharing. Go to Settings -> Internet Sharing -> ON. The phone should show the Wait indicator for 5-10 seconds and then present the Wireless AP name, encryption type, and password. You can change these settings.
A word of warning: Do -not- install the Network Setup app. This will break Internet Tethering and lock your phone down tighter than Fort Knox. If for some reason install Network Setup out of curiosity (as I did), and break your tether, just do a hard reset and repeat the steps above (sans the AT&T unlock code entry business.) The Lumia should grab all the network setup data it needs from the inserted SIM at first boot. If you change SIMS, you'll need to do another hard reset; it is speculated that the LUMIA does not update network settings when a new SIM is inserted.
More Information
Interesting development: when the phone is displaying 4G data connectivity, Internet Sharing turns on successfully. When the phone switches to LTE, internet sharing is not possible; the AT&T message is displayed.
It did not work for me. My Lumia 900 RM-823 was already carrier unlocked and upgraged to Windows Phone 7.8. Tried twice after reseting to factory settings and started from scratch.
Anyone else had any luck?? If yes, could you please specify how it was done??
THANK YOU, patrick. Followerd your instructions and "Voila!". Unlocked Lumia 900 AT&T

No luck on my end either. I had upgraded and installed the Nokia Network Setup to access the 4G on Tmobile, but even after a hard reset I am still unable to access internet sharing....
Anyone?
it seem that if when the cellular network is under LTE. the internet sharing wont turn on and that message about call 611 comes up.
but if you network select t-mobile under the cellular setting. the internet sharing works. but only for a moment until the cellular network automatically switches back to the LTE network.
that's what i've notice so far. anyone else?

it seems that as long as it read 4g at the top corner. you can access the internet share menu.
another thing i notice is that if you connect another device to the nokia 900 and the cellular service switch to LTE your device still has internet option.
so it seems the problem here is making sure you are in the 4g network for you to have the internet share menu to work for you.

After getting the unlock code and putting in a t-mobile sum card the tethering would work on the t-mobile network. Interestingly enough it would not work on the at&t network because I was not paying for that and it would tell me to call.
AFTER, I installed the Nokia network app and selected at&t LTE it would tether.
Internet Sharing (Tethering locked to at&t) Lumia 900 Unlocked
I have a Lumia 900 and it is unlocked and works with other SIM cards all over the world. OS is 7.10 and firmware 2175.2307.8862.13100.
I have factory reset the phone to try and get the tethering to work but it will not. I get a message (CONNECTION NOT SHARED_ to enable tethering on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dail 611). How can i get around this to get the internet sharing to work ?? I got the APN info from my service provider and i can use internet explorer on the phone using the data from the sim.
PLEASE HELP, SO THAT I CAN TETHER THE SIM CONNECTION TO ANOTHER DEVICE.

Setting up uk m8 for t-mobile trouble

Hi,
I opened another thread regarding safest method to change from unlocked stock os to the T-Mobile release for Wi-Fi calling, possibly in wrong area as somewhat related to T-Mobile, however my main worry is ensuring I will have full 4g/LTE support, I am awaiting a sim card of a T-Mobile mvno, but I've seen several places I'd likely not be able to even use 3g without enabling the bands required, I've come across various guides .
Several said to use ##3424# or something alike(I'm out right now so can't confirm) to get into diagnostics, this does not work, I can however use the *#*#3424#*#*(again might be incorrect code) however this is self check options and to calibrate vibration etc, unable to connect with qpst with this.
Any help would be helpful, I purchased the phone second hand unlocked to use when I visit the US, I know it's unlocked and works in UK, just require it for use in US as I use an m9 as my main phone.
Would be nice to get the Wi-Fi calling function but not important.
Any help on how to go about this would be great.
Regards,

Well I Have A T-Mobile RUU Thread I Made That You Could Use, It's Not Set For The US Or UK, Just For The T-Mobile Carrier
You Would Need A Windows Computer To Do This Tho. Reply Back If You Want The Link
