My Sony Xperia play touch screen is having issues not responding it was not dropped exposed to any kinda of water or heat the slide up controls work fine and I can use the d-pad and buttons to select the apps and setting in the device but it will not allow me to do a factory reset the only other option I found was to download the device repair tool from the Sony website but decided to ask you guys for help firs if there is a post with the same question and answers just direct me there if not any advice will be very helpful
Sounds like a hardware issue tbh. Try flashing back to stock, if the problem persists you'll need to have it repaired

I must agree it sounds like a hardware problem. It's pretty easy to run a software repair though so you should definitely try this before sending the phone for repair.

I don't know how he fixed it, but I had the same issue with my Xperia play and finally had it to work again ! In my case, I noticed that the touch screen was unresponsive in vertical position, but it was working when I slid it open. Then a few days after, I had to open-close-and open again the gamepad to make the touchscreen work before it finally totally quit working.
If you have the same issue, don't buy a new screen digitizer, the issue probably comes from the inner flex cable and a spare one cost approximately 7£ on ebay.
By the way, if it does solve your problem like it did for my Xperia Play, buy a few spare cables, because when you'll open your phone you will understand why it is so fragile and why every time you slide it open you are wearing it more and more.
Stupid SE engineers made that thin cable pass through a tiny square-shaped hole of sharp metal. While replacing the flex cable I putted some adhesive tape around the metal, hoping it will slow down the wearing process, but I can't be sure it will be sufficient.
I hope that helped !
(please forgive my bad english)
edit: The gamepad also worked despite the touchscreen failure, so a working gamepad does not mean your flex cable is ok.

Hey, thanks for responding.
Yes, my problem started like yours, it would only work when i slide the pad. First i thought it was because of the humidity, the phone having moist inside or something, cause we just moved to Florida when that started happening. Then I also tried to take out the thick plastic screen protector, as some smartass on the internet suggested. but then again, i thought i bricked my phone because i was messing with the device and root and stuff.
Well, out of hopelessness i bought a digitizer on ebay, it came with the screwdriver and prying tools. When i tested it on my phone, it still wouldnt work. then i remembered reading about a fix to the replacement part, something about a version update for those people who messed with their phone's software. Again, i tried that, but still no luck. So when I was about to wrap my phone up, i noticed the black coating on my flex cable is worn out, so i tore it out and checked whats inside there, im not sure how a damaged flex cable would look like, but that black coating looks guilty to me.
So yeah, maybe the problem is really the flex cable. I'll just have to return the digitizer and replace it with a flex and then we'll see.
I hope this time it works, because i totally lost the enthusiasm on fixing this device.

If you experienced the same problem I had (unit *partially* and randomly fonctionnal when slid open and then totally unresponsive), it's 99% sure it comes from the weak flex cable. Anyway, ~7£ seemed a little money to revive my only phone, but since your post is 6 month long I guess you already replaced it so it's up to you to decide !

Exactly like the first picture. I haven't taken it out of the phone so i dont know how the insides look but indeed, that might be the problem.
I'll try to order the part today, any particular site you could suggest i buy it from?
And yeah, i bought another one. but I still like this phone, it's still the awesomest phone to play games with.
I'll let you know if i fix it or not. Thanks! :good:

Just a bit indeed.
But what are ten years when it comes to retrogaming ?
And no, it did not help at all, but I used transparent tape which is too thin, I should have tried electrical tape back then.
The new ribbon cable fixed the phone but failed a few monthes later too despite careful usage, this design is really stupid.
I still have a spare cable but did not bother to install it, your necropost makes me want to try.

I'm thinking about going with either electric tape or rubber paint (not sure if that is its correct name, but it's basically liquid rubber that you can apply like paint and it then hardens)

I forgot to ask, is it really that commom for it to fail with just a few months of use? It's rather impossible to find spares today
I don't know if it's a common issue, maybe Sony made an improved hardware revision, couldn't tell. What I'm sure if is mine will eventually fail again, which is why I didn't bother to fix it twice.
The "xperia play ribbon cable" Google query gives a few options including Aliexpress and other third party sellers.
I bought an XPeria Play cheap from a retail store when it was end of life they were having a clearance on them. I played around with it and flashed an icecream sandwich skin which made the UI look better, installed the tools to emulate PS1 games through the official Sony emulator on the device and add my custom games to the PS Games launcher so they look official with the artwork and stuff. Played a few games then I put the phone on my shelf and didn't touch it for like 5yrs.
I fired up the phone and my dpad / touch works but the screen doesn't respond to touch at all. I'm not sure how the flex cable could be damaged as the phone hasn't even been powered on but I guess it's worth a shot for the price. Is it hard to replace the cable?
A couple years ago I made a post about the issue and people blame it as my screen needed replacing which is clearly not true since it was working perfectly before I put it on the shelf and has no damage to it.

The best price I've seen for the touchscreen is on ebay. But, there are a few catches...
First issue: There are two different LCD/touchscreen assemblies that were used on the angel. One is made by Sony, the other by Toppoly. The touchscreen or LCD from one can not be used on the other due to programming and physical layout.
Second issue (and this is probably the biggest): The way they touch screen and the LCD are connected is a major pain in the arse to fix. It's a plastic ribbon cable that has been soldered to a point on another ribbon cable. Unless you are very good at soldering, it's not something I'd attempt due to the largish chance of melting the cables and making things worse, not to mention the potential to hurt the LCD itself.
If you look in the wiki under the hacks and tweaks, the Technical Stuff (including disassembly) link has two pages to look at:
Blue Angel/PPC6600 Disassembling Procedure with Pictures
Blue Angel Spare Screen
While they are not the best pictures, the last image under the disassembling section shows the ribbon cables I'm referring to, and the touchscreen assembly picture for the spare screen page shows a sony touchscreen ribbon cable detached from the LCD cable, which will show the connection points I'm referring to.
I've got this exact issue as well on my O2 branded angel. Due to the cost of a new LCD/touchscreen assembly (almost the cost of a working angel), I'm considering trying to solder a new touchscreen. If I ruin it, well, I've got parts for the next one I get.
I replaced a touch sreen today, its not that bad if you have soldered before. Unfortunatly the screen i got of ebay is not perfect and will need replacing. I have contacted the seller to see if he will send me another one.
Its worth doing!

I've soldered plenty of times (a bit out of practice tho), but never something like that.
Any tips and suggestions? My main worry is melting the ribbon cables.
Well, no real tips, just take you time and don't rush it. The plastic can stand quite a bit of heat, i never managed to melt it, The job looks harder that it realy is. you will need a steady hand! Also , taping the connector down before you solder helps.

Ok, that's good to know. The plastic didn't look all that durable, but if it's stouter than it looks, I may check with the house controller (aka CFO aka my wife ) and see if we can spare the dosh to pick one up.
I have to be careful as she wants it once it's fixed!

There is a disassembly guide in the wiki.
What kind of screwdrivers are needed to remove those tiny screws on the LCD/ digitizer casing. I have 2 SX66's with broken LCDs and one with a broken digitizer. Time for some repairs.

Cables and the wiki. The link I posted shows the difference between the two.
And yes, you will have to get the same LCD assembly/glass cover as what you have now. The two are not interchangeable.
There is a tool set you can purchase at radioshack that has the proper tip. Its a cheaply made tool but does the job. It is one of the kits with many bits. It would be the star tip. You can also order the tool online. I've taken mine apart a few times. Its sort of a pain but gets easier the more times you do it (replaced my screen three times). I have however, never been able to get the touch to work again because I can't really see how I would be able to solder such a fine ribbon. Ive had my mogul for almost a year and if my memory serves me the metallic strips are only about an 1/8th of an inch thick or less. I got lazy and put a piece of tape across the ribbon and put a small amount of glue to hold it down. Still didnt work. Didn't really expect it to either, but it was worth a shot. I turned it into insurance said I lost it and ended up with a broken 6600 and when I called to complain they sent me a mogul. So it's been awhile but I loved the phone. Hope this helps out.
dont scare the people
it can be replaced in 15 minutes with proper tools (screwdrivers)
i ve found some russian manual with pictures how to disasemble the BA (just look for it on the net) and its very easy, no need for soldering
there are 2 versions of displays, one have silver ribbon and the other have golden
when you opet your BA you ll see the display and the ribbon, also there is serial number of the display so you can check it too... all BA displays on the ebay have info about the ribbon and the serial number
I bought it for about 30$ and works perfectly, as original one...
buy digitizer and screen in one piece
you have to be total noob to have problems with changing of the display, so go for it !
If you are planning to replace the digitiser YES you do need to some fine soldering, all you need is the correct soldering iron tip for fine soldering and it is possible, done it about 4 times so far and everytime I promise myself not to brake it again but hahaha,
You can buy the LCD + digitiser together if you are unable to do soldering,
I use a razor which i took out from my shaver and thats what I use to seperate digitiser from lcd.
There are very cheap digitiser panels on EBAY, However some of these are not so good and ( digitiser is a 2 layer glass assy.) sometimes little area of this 2 layers stick together making touch screen non responsive.
Alternative is look out for spares, repairs sales if the screen is good buy it replace it, if you are a novice when it comes to these things, just take your time and dont rush it, even if it helps make little notes when you are opning the device as it ll make it easy when it comes to puting it back together.
And if you can get your hands on one keep a spare screen
Im sooo sad
I just cracked my screen I really hope I get a replacement cus I got more attached to my BA ever since I found out I could upgrade it. I thought it was not a biggie crashing it because I have dropped so many times and nothing happened but today something happened...
screen is 30$ at ebay, and no need to be sad, in few days it can be fixed
Hey guys,
I tried replacing my DINC digitizer again and everything went smooth until I booted the phone up. The middle of the touch screen doesnt work very well. I checked the cable to see if it was loose multiple times but that didn't work.
So I took the whole thing apart again and looked at it closely and realized the Krazy glue I applied was applied on the side roughly where the problem lies....
Is it possible it is messing with it so that it is detecting a touch there or something? I used krazy glue on there because I thought it would be like plastic.
Or is this just impossible and the digitizer I ordered is defective? It works besides the middle section of the screen.
on the contrary superglue is insulative which could also be the issue since the digitizer needs to be grounded not sure what it is like under the digitizer but is the area it gets glued to kinda metallic if so that could be your issue if not then it could be a bad digitizer i dont think i would have not used superglue i would have used double stick tape or something like that... or hell with how my case i have on mine is designed i would not have used any adhesive just left my case to hold it onto my phone incase it ever got broke again...
Hmm, ah so perhaps it is just not allowing that part of the screen to be sensed.
In any case, I replaced my "new" digitizer with the old one that is slightly cracked for now. I used krazy glue and it worked perfect this time, but then again i was careful with the application.
I will clean off the "new" and try one more time, but I suspect now that the "old" is working so good that it was in fact a defective one.

it will not work. the board requires different drivers and i think a different power output. (i could be wrong) but its like if you bought a plasma tv and swapped for an lcd panel.
kind of figured that. thanks makes sense.
Recently my play with no recent modification + stock kernel + treated always with care started to light the screen less than normal (but still working) and now the screen is totally black, it only vibrates pressing the power button.
I tried flashtool many times but nothing.
I searched in the forum and probably is a trouble with the flex cable (also cause sliding sometimes changed the intensity of screen's light), but how can I be sure that is exactly this piece? Also I'm not so good at taking apart phones (but i'll try if i'll be almost sure that is the flex cable)...
No warranty (too old) and I don't know how much i'll pay at sony center...
I was always afraid about the slider cause too shaky in my opinion.
"sliding sometimes changed the intensity of screen's light"
Most definitely your flex cable. It needs to be changed.
Yeah... I only have to cross my fingers cause if it's not the cable I don't really know what could be...
Is there a way in case that works to increase the new flex cable's life? I don't really want to fight with this anymore...

Black screen is a sign the flex cable broke. On the other hand by the time you replace something else might of broke. If you saw a disassebly video on the xperia play you will literally take the whole thing a apart including the gamepad.
Good luck while replacing flex cable.
I changed it on my phone and on another 2 of my friends, it is not very easy to do, but still better than trash your phone
I can give you little tips to make it working longer as I did on mine.
PLACE A STICKER ON A CABLE on one or on both sides, you can cut a sticker to make it fit the most to cable and you can glue edges if needed. It is good to prevent from scratching and breaking cable caused by sliding phone.
Tips while you repairing your phone:
When you are going to put Flex cable on its place, you should perfectly fit that three little 'tails' to its holes if you don't your display will touch a digitizer and make a spots on your screen.
And after you connect flex cable with motherboard try to press the cable the most you can 'under the motherboard' because flex cable is getting a damage if you don't do this.
Now i have time to replace the flex so i'll try and see if the phone will work.
Is adhesive tape good inside the phone? Or is insulating tape (that is thicker than adhesive tape...) better? Or other/nothing?
PS: Did it! The phone works good :good:
Well, as i need to "repair" my sm-p600 note 10.1 2014 edition, and there isn´t any tear dow manual or tutorial, so i start by my self, i have a little experience disassembling gadgets and assembling again (lucky me, when i was a kid i cant put together many devices haha) well the main duty is know if the screen comes glued to the lcd, hoping they comes just atached by 3m tape or something "easy" to remove, and replace just the glass
By now you can buy the digitizer glass cover alone(i haven´t bought it, since i dont know if i need the whole front panel)

Haha this is exactly what I would've done in this kind of situation - just tear the damn thing apart and repair whatever it is that's broken. Well, except that I usually have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to repairing computer-related stuff. It always seems to work out in the end though.
Anyway, good luck with your repair project. Always nice to have some reference in case of a broken screen.

Well the flex conectors are arrayed too far one from the other, so if it comes glued they dont use logic, but who knows, this sunday ill buy some auto agdhesive plastic to retain the glass in "one" part, then heat it and remove it. if you can wait, ill confirm glued or not.

Good to know. I am knew to this. My wife's tablet cracked. How different is this with the phones? I understand the phones use LOCA between the glass and digitizer. Is it the same case with this tablet?
If its built like their phones then the digitizer is glued to the glass. Which is what you bought. If it helps any, I did take apart an Asus tablet and the digitizer is glued to the glass as well. But the LCD panel has a double sided foam around it which is how it was attached to the LCD/digitizer. If you don't heat the foam tape enough it's going to be a PITA it won't separate easily. But don't force it or you will crack the LCD panel. They are probably 2-3 mm thin panel. So heat it up enough to allow it to separate on its own while you put your prying tool in between. And work your way around with little force. If you have to use more force to separate them, then it's not hot enough. Dont rush like I did and I ended up cracking the lcd panel.

There are glued and attached ... Glued are kind of fused and attached stay together using a 3m double sided tape... We are here to know what is the p600 using... I'll try to heat it and separate em this Sunday ... Even iPad is attached ... The glued one is common in high end devices... Not tablets hope the same for this one

Well the flex conectors are arrayed too far one from the other, so if it comes glued they dont use logic, but who knows, this sunday ill buy some auto agdhesive plastic to retain the glass in "one" part, then heat it and remove it. if you can wait, ill confirm glued or not.

How did it go on Sunday?
Just curious, what kind of room, if any, is available under the back cover. It would be nice to make a wireless charging dock for this like my old touchpad had.
After picking up my sons Note 10.1 and noticing that it would apparently come on but had nothing on the screen I began googling. Not much info out there. Appears to be a common problem. His tablet seemed to be working fine but nothing displayed on the screen. Read several threads on here with most ending in sending the units back under warranty. Although I did purchase 3 year warranties on both units I bought...I'm just not one to do the right thing. I powered the unit down and began taking the back off like the poster did in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2617614. Once I got the back off I tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. No dice. The poster then said he disconnected the two ribbons and reconnected them and that worked for him...still no worky for me. One of the ribbons is labeled "LCD". I followed it to the other end. It is covered by a silver "hold down" sticker. I unstuck the sticker and could then clearly see that the ribbon was clearly cocked very slightly in it's socket. If you don't know, these ribbon sockets come open by prying the black piece up and away from the ribbon. Be very careful doing this. I did this on this end of the LCD ribbon, straightened the ribbon and clipped the socket back closed. BAM. Black Screen Gone! Works like a charm.
If you are comfortable digging around in very small electronics give it a try. If not, send it in.
Hope this helps.
The other thing to be weary of is make sure you dont break the tabs on the back cover. In particular the area where the spen sits. Otherwise the spen will become loose. There's a plastic C looking piece inside that hold on to the spen. This is creates that click feel (not the vibrate) when you insert the spen all the way. There's a part of that piece that lines up with the groove near the end of the spen that it latches on to sort of speak. You can bend to make it hold the pen better but if the back is loose, that clip will not sit in place and the spen will be loose no matter what.

Does anyone know of a tutorial with pics on how to remove the back?

Didn't find a video. Get a very small flat blade screwdriver or one of the plastic tools that comes with a new cell phone battery. Start on either side of the charging port and slowly work your way around prying on it. It has clips and also a thin line of glue holding it on. Take your time and it will come open with ease.

Thinking about making a purchase to replace my cracked screen, but I am noticing that these replacements don't have the 'Samsung' logo on them. Should I continue to wait longer until digitzer screens with the 'Samsung' logo come out, or would I be safe purchasing these?
And the answer comes out... It's glued in the hard way. Took me about two hours to detach the cracked screen. There is a lot of glue on the LCD that I have to remove now. Check is it is still working and ask for the replacement...

Hey!
I bought a used moto360 about a month ago with some pixel errors. They didnt bother me much, until I noticed that they are expanding.
Since I bought them from ebay and the seller doesnt have the invoice anymore, I cant RMA it.
This is how it used to look like:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And now it looks like this:
Im not familiar with displays, so I cant tell what exactly is broken. I just know its getting worse.
Is it possible to stop it from expanding? If not, what do I need to replace? And what kind of tools do I need?

Thanks! But do you know what causes the cracking? As I said, its expanding and I dont want it to happen again after replacing the LCD.

The previous owner dropped it or did something to cause it. Once glass is cracked it only gets worse over time. Paypal doesnt have your invoice?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
I do not know that. The description just said the watch had pixel errors one the right side. I have no idea what caused them.
And PayPal is a legit invoice? Because I could just steal a watch, tell my friend to send me some money via paypal and say: "Hey, thats the invoice from a random dude I bought the watch from. Give me a new one!"
So you bought the watch knowing that it had display problem. That is not the fault of the seller. You bought the watch with an issue and you must accept it. The seller might have mislead you by using the term "pixel error" instead of cracked display but i guess it will be hard to argue.

If for some reason you decide to try and fix it on your own, I could sell you a replacement LCD for $30 shipped (depending on where you are). I had a couple of them that I was toying around with rooting ect and ended up shorting out the motherboard. They're not the most difficult to take apart, but you probably won't get the waterproof seal back in. The LCD has the bezel and everything in tact and ends up being just a replacement piece with a ribbon cable that plugs into the motherboard of the watch.

I though you felt being duped by your seller and not aware of the defect will worsen. Anyways i hope you can find a seller of replacement lcd.

I saw a iFixit guide that shows how to disassemble the watch, however some parts are glued.
After replacing the LCD, what kind of glue do I need to reassemble the whole thing? Or will any instant glue work?

Well, I kinda do. Of course, now I realise why the watch was so cheap, because Im pretty sure the seller knew that it was getting worse.
You dont know how stupid I felt, but thats what I get for not thinking befor buying. Gonna deal with that now.
Does somebody knows a good seller? Perhaps in germany? Or could I message motorola directly and ask them for a replacment part?
I will probably buy the tools in need from iFixit.

Tough to say about the glue...it was such a sticky glue that when prying it apart it seems like you could even just push the pieces back together and it'd stay, or maybe some other glue, I'm no expert on it. Seemed like the main things that were glued were the plastic back and the charging coil. I used an exacto knife to get the back off, you have to be very careful with that part, I had broken one of the backs by trying to pry it, the other came off OK with an exacto knife.

If you will be doing the tearsown yourself. Be prepared for the grueling work ahead. If ifixit tools are too expensive and too long to arrive on you country, you can buy similar tools innyour local electronics shop. A lot cheaper option but will do the work. If you have a haird dryer lauing around, that will do the trick of heating your caseb without burning it to oblivion.
And bear in mind that once you open it, forget the water resistance. You cant use super glue (cyano acrilate stuff) it will make a haze in the glass. I would suggest LOCA uv for the glass and double sided tape for the back.
My suggestion is letting a Motorolla shop do the replacement for guaranteed result. Of course you will pay but everything will be guaranteed from labor to parts.

I asked Motorolla how much a LCD replacement would cost, but they couldnt give me a anwer to it. They just said I have to send it to them, check it and mail me the price. And If I dont accept it, I have to pay 15€ for shipping and service fees. I know, I cheaped out once and now I doing it again and its the same freaking watch. But I like the challenge to fix things by myself.
Im not quite sure about the hair dryer, but Ill find a way. So the only real tool I need is some kind of plectrum?

My little bit of advice (no guarantee that things won't get broken/ruined):
-if you heat up the plastic back, it might work better for sure, but I had to kind of cut through the glue. If you pry at all, the back will snap. That's why I used a sharp exacto knife. But be careful when cutting as the charging coil is in there (between the back and the plastic casing that holds most of the electronics). But with an exacto knife, you can actually scrape the color off of the bottom of the plastic, so be careful of that. The sensor in the middle is slightly recessed if I remember correctly.
-once you get the back off, the rest can be pried out (the rubber seal makes it pretty tight though). I don't recall once you get those parts out how delicate the ribbon for the LCD is, so just make sure to go slow.
-the bezel and LCD come off as one part (the LCD and glass stay inside of the bezel), so just don't expect that the bezel will be separate, you can obviously separate them, but they'll probably come off as one.
Thanks! That will help me a lot.
I post updates after I got enough money to buy the LCD replacment.
