Why can't DEV'ing for an android be as easy as VB... Its got to go to C and shhtuf... Or even so, I used to make 'theme's' for my Blackberry Bold.... That was way easy... Even theming for ROM's is a lot to read up on... I wish I would have gotten more into Android before my daughter was born.. I am still trying to read up on Themeing using anything but Kitchen.. But it is complicated stuff...
Because I am planning on keeping my SII for a while... Does anyone have any tips for theming? Or know of somewhere I can catch some literature on it?

Hi all
I tried to look at the major ROMs out there, reading features over features. I can t see anything talking about the USB Host mode recently nerfed on the Sprint version.
I do apologize if someone already pointed out to some ROM fixing this issue, just please reply and let me know.
If noone did it, do we have any hope that ROM cooks are going to take a look into it?
I posted here because the "Android Development" rules say that is not for Q&A, is this the right place to possibly get attention on this subject?
Thank you very much, your job is highly appreciated!
I posted something like this earlier. I'm hoping for the same too. I can't play my emulators on the screen controls. I think it's at the kernel level so someone would have to make a kernel that works with OTG.

he's getting there! i havent used his stuff in a while, but this will definitely bring me back and eventually all the other devs will incorporate this. id get it a week, 2 weeks tops.

Thank you for the update.
It would be nice if someone fix it. This is a very useful feature and is a shame they nerfed on the latest 2.3.4 version.
However, is good "only" if it really works and doesn t break anythng else in the process.
Actually I am a bit skeptic whether "modding" my SGS2 for the simple reason on every ROM I see out there, there are a bunch of bugs involved. Something is fixed with having something else broken.
USB Host would be amazing, but i can live without and i can say there is no reason to me to mess with the original SGS2 OS because this phone just works great out of the box
Is The theme Chooser engine something only put on HTC roms, or Is it on Samsung builds to? Sorry in advance
Its for cm7 roms

Does the theme Chooser work on these roms? Or was it an HTC thing. I realized question just pissed off someone, but I'm a noon and questions like these are why I'm not allowed to post in the development forum...
its only available in cm7!
Cm7 actually ported it from tmobile roms. (htc ones) If we had aosp we could port it easily. We dont (yet), however.
Gotta start somewhere...
It's not to big of a deal. Most of the people on the development side are really nice and do work long hard hours to get us ROMS, Themes, etc., but there are a few that are very ignorant.
Just brush them off and don't even respond to their comments.
You are only going to waste space on that Thread and end up going back and forth with some ignorant idiot in the first place.
Have fun, and enjoy what ever you learn and get out of the people that "KNOW" what they are doing. That's what I have done and still do.
Take care and Good Luck...

Really that always made me wonder. It's tmo technology but I've only seen it used in cm
....
So all themes in Chooser only for cm7???? Awesome
So what's the scoop? It looks like a sweet ROM I was curious what the major differences are. I assume it has some extra functionality or something but I haven't been able find much of substance the wiki page on it wasn't exactly useful...
I've been wondering myself what differences come along with a "bravia engine".

Yeah, everyone links to the Wiki page for BRAVIA which has next to no information about cellphones and pretty much completely worthless unless you want to learn about their advertising campaign...

That's typically my method, but I research before flashing a new ROM, saves me a headache and spares devs from stupid questions. There just seems to be a lack of info on just a few areas & I don't want to play the flashing game to only gain a few icon changes and transition animations. I'm currently on calks' 2.8.1 and love all aspects of it. Smart guy, that Calk! Don't mistake research for laziness, that's not my thing.

The point I was trying to make is. Flash it and report your findings back. Contribute back instead of asking more questions. I don't know about you but I like finding things myself. Not relying on others. I just get sick of all the questions that can be so easily answered by doing your own research.
And about the map thing if you still can't find your way out of the forest with a map. Then you need to go back to the boy scouts and study up a bit.lol.geesh.

See the thing is I asked one question. When a ROM is so different than the rest I like to have any idea what the extra stuff DOES. Even playing with it I am unlikely to figure it out if I don't know what it's for to begin with. I figured I would ask what the other people here knew about it. You are obviously ignorant of any useful information so while your contribution has been worthless it has certainly wasted a few people's time so there is that.
In regards to the map I take it you've never actually been in the woods without a way to tell what direction you're going have you? Must be nice to think the sun shines every day, maps show everything to be seen, and compasses/GPS grow on trees.

You can disagree with him all you want but, he makes a valid point. The thread for the ROM had pretty much all the answers you need and the OP for the ROM has been more patient than anyone gives him credit for. Try it out. Nand your current ROM flash the Bravia ROM and see for yourself. Q and A is a great place to ask questions but, only if you've exhausted all other avenues. Otherwise you're just clutter.

Agreed and you just validated his point. Nand then try it out for yourself. You'll get your answers through first hand experience. He'd get the answers to his questions a helluva lot faster and he'd have something to share in the ROM's thread.

Also it's a great ROM. Sure it's in alpha but, that's expected it's pulling all kinds of cool stuff from another OEM. The time he spent would be worth it in my opinion...drunk or sober lol.
just seems like a theme to me.... bravia wont run correctly unless the hardware is there... i guess its like installing Radeon HD9500 video drivers on a intel vga adapter... bravia engine was the video cards used inside Sonys TVs and such... how his applys to a non-sony phone? I have no idea... but regardless, its just something to tinker around with.. no harm done.

I agree, I tried the ROM the other day. It had Sony's launcher and the ROM was nicely themed. I have no idea what the Bravia engine means and running the ROM won't tell you either so not sure why the other dude was being an ass and telling you to flash. He was probably hoping you could tell him.
Nothing wrong with asking a question about a ROM if you don't want to flash it just to find out. Everyone just needs to ignore the assess.

I relied on that wiki when I was starting out. I spent nearly a month reading before trying anything (or even posting any questions). It's near useless now and the only reason I can do anything without being lost is because I have been around here since late 2010.

It was also really helpful to me when I first started. Like everyone else I read everything and still semi bricked my phone the first time. Great part was I was able to read how to unbrick it from the same area.
I have been trying to keep up, still very new. I managed to get up to Clean GB BML, then on to MTD.
But I spent most of the day trying to figure out the easiest way to update the modem to EL30 and finally stumbled across the flash able zip file that allowed me to boot back to BML "I thank all that came up with that!"
Then I searched the rest so I could get Clean GB EL30 MTD 1.1.2! Needless to say I found everything I needed it just took me some time. I know you experienced users get frustrated at people for posting stuff that is out there, but sometimes to us newbies it is hard to find the things we need.
Anyways sorry for such a long post and I know at the speed the developers around here have been bringing out new things it would be hard to keep anything up to date, but if possible it would be awesome!
Just want to say I can't wait and hope all the kinks get worked out of ICS cause that would be EPIC!

I could use some. I'm not particularly sure what we should do since the 2.2 section isn't complete and there isn't even a 2.3 section yet. I did do the preliminary stuff like put in the EpicMTD thread and the CWM5 thread into the top. I don't know if I want to go digging around for Froyo stuff or just jump right into GB.

there should also be a link directly to this q/a threads also.. "keep in mind" the more you simplify instructions for a "new person" with the cause and effect reasons, the less you will have a multitude of the same question.

2.3 – ROOTING
Great! Now you know some words! So, what next? Well, we need to achieve root access on your phone. There are a few ways to accomplish this on the Epic. Please note that the one-click methods are hit and miss and are affected by several factors, including computer speed, cable, USB ports, and, for all intents and purposes, random chance. I HIGHLY recommend you open the .bat files and run every command in adb manually. I'll update this guide, eventually, with how to do this
"this has to be totally updated". but i can't see the edit option.

The wiki is gold, it holds the fundamentals to all the cool ****. I read that **** searched forms and rooted while reading... lol.. I am still learning from the wiki. I have learned to odin, root, free wifi, and basic cool **** but the wiki always me to venture into other areas if i want to take the time to read and learn. Free Knowledge
It will take time, but the wiki will get updated. But feedback should also be given from everyone to make it much more "noob" friendly.
