so what do you guys think about google announcing the next version of android is 2.3 not 3.0, we all know that with version 3.0 (now honeycomb) will come with all the new ui changes, but what do you think will be included in 2.3?
gpu acceleration for the UI would be a serious performance boost - at least as far as 'feel' goes.
beyond that, bug fixes
I didn't think that Google had officially matched dev names to release numbers yet?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
to the same or lesser degree that 2.2 had on 2.1 users?
When did they announce that? And wasn't Eclair both 2.0 and 2.1?
ive read it still could be either 3.0 or 2.3 they havent really decided yet
Gingerbread is the update with the new UI. And there is nothing confirmed that Gingerbread is 2.3, just one message from some Google guy that includes '2.3' in it but not the word 'gingerbread'.
2.0 and 2.1 were both Eclair. Maybe 2.3 is still some froyo update?
Btw for the people that dont know, google has put the big Gingerbread statue in their HQ. It's close now.

sorry i should of rephrased my op better, it not official but has been leaked by numerious sources inside google and also in a faq for the webm video format the "gingerbread os version 2.3 will arrive 4Q 2010 We all knew that google was going to seperate android into 2 branches, the 2.x series for low to mid end devices, and the 3.x series for high end devices.. so maybe 2.3 and 3.0 will both be called gingerbread,

I think so too. After all maybe that's the only way they can preserve their "superiority" to both ranges,low/mid-end and high-end.Cheaper devices will be able to have the latest software while preserving a good functionality and high-end devices will be albe to show their true potential.
That's my opinion only though...
Who cares? The features matter, not the version number.
If 2.3 brings a GPU accelerated UI, that will be awesome! I also think it could have the new media player that they've shown during the Froyo announcement.
Who cares if the name is 3.0 or 2.3. We all know that we'll get 90% better performance anyway.

The last I heard, GPU power was the prime reason it wasn't done so priorly. So I'm very skeptical. If it is implemented, they may enable it only with specific tasks where it has greater power efficiency than currently.

Id love to have sense and bt hid,any one know of a rom for this?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
The problem is with the bluetooth stack. Since all sense roms are based off of the same original htc rom, (supposedly) none of them will have support. Hence why it does work with AOSP roms.
At least that's the way it was back when I messed with pairing Miimotes to my Evo. If it's still true, you don't have any sense options but there are still other roms like MIUI.
Hi everyone,
I'm running the stock 2.3.6 rom, rooted, and I'm wondering if any of the alternatives support the bluetooth tethering profile. My wife's Nexus S with ICS supports it (I can initialize the connection from my Transformer, no action necessary from the phone) and I'd love to see the same behavior on my GS2.
I use this phone for work stuff and really the only thing I'm missing is BT tethering, so I'd appreciate it if somebody could check their settings to see if it's mentioned or supported.
Thanks!
Don't take this as fact, as I'm not 100% sure, but it is my understanding that Bluetooth tethering profile as well as other profiles like HID that lets you use Wiimotes and Playstation controllers is missing from the Bluetooth stack that ships with Touchwiz devices.
Almost all of our ROMs are based on the stock TouchWiz ROM, so none of those will work with this profile. The only exception is the half-finished and abandoned Cyanogenmod port, and the half-finished and abandoned MIUI port based on it.
Seems like a reasonable assumption, thanks. I'll just live with wifi tethering and hope that Samsung includes the proper profiles in ICS.
I recently took the plunge with my HTC Desire GSM and installed Cyanogenmod 7.1.0. It's great, and with an sd-ext partition I don't keep having to swap apps in and out any more!
The one downside is that I appear unable to connect via Bluetooth to my 2008 Mini Clubman (pretty much a BWM 1 Series underneath). It pairs, but never establishes a link. I've tried various audio.conf tweaks, all to no avail. I believe this is down to the standard Bluetooth stack as opposed to the HTC Sense version.
I'm looking to try a Sense ROM and see if I can get this facility back. Would using a Sense ROM "just work", given the stock Sense ROM works?
Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing, or in general which ROM would you recommend? Probably Sense 3.0 rather than Sense 3.5, at least to start with.
Thanks!
does the SW3 currently have bluetooth 4.0 or 4.1? I am reading conflicting things, I also know 4.0 is upgrade to 4.1 so I'm not sure what the sw3 currently has
