[Q] Wanted: Sense ROM with BMW Bluetooth Support - Desire General

I recently took the plunge with my HTC Desire GSM and installed Cyanogenmod 7.1.0. It's great, and with an sd-ext partition I don't keep having to swap apps in and out any more!
The one downside is that I appear unable to connect via Bluetooth to my 2008 Mini Clubman (pretty much a BWM 1 Series underneath). It pairs, but never establishes a link. I've tried various audio.conf tweaks, all to no avail. I believe this is down to the standard Bluetooth stack as opposed to the HTC Sense version.
I'm looking to try a Sense ROM and see if I can get this facility back. Would using a Sense ROM "just work", given the stock Sense ROM works?
Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing, or in general which ROM would you recommend? Probably Sense 3.0 rather than Sense 3.5, at least to start with.
Thanks!

Most stable 2.x ROM?

Hi !
I'm very happy with my Hero, but im kinda tired that HTC hasn't released atleast a 1.6 ROM yet.
Im thinking of flashing a 2.x ROM, but which is the most stable? I use my phone at work, so can't go around and reboot it constantly. Also Exchange mail is a must!
Any tips? (looking at kagu/ckdroid)
CKDroid works great! I find it most stable.
this may be a little early to make the claim of stability but i have been using AOSP 2.1 r1 by jnwhiteh all day, and it has been very stable.
i was using kagudroid before this.

CKDroid is based on it
Why don't you try MoDaCo custom roms? They are android 1.5 but heavely optimised, they're faster then any 2.x rom i've tried.
I'd say CKDroid is the fastest of the 2.X ROMs. And as far as I've tested it up against MoDaCo when it comes to speed, they are quite equal.
Ok, i'll try CKDroid.
I can't seem to see a complete flash guide. Can someone link me?
Is there indeed an offical 2.1 rom coming at some point?

KaguDroid 1.1 by LoxDev is amazing. Fast and stable. Really nice!!
what about hero2.1 v1.8?( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592596)
i want to try a 2.1 rom with sense and i read that this is the most stable...it's true? what about the hero/espresso hybrid?
I find this one the best Sense ROM by far - full albums / camera / bluetooth etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=613746
Well
I tried MoDaCo 3.1 hours after getting my hero, and about the same length of time later I removed it, it was horrible and I used to get crashes of the "system" process and had to reboot, happened 5-10 times in fewer hours so i switched straight back to a rooted version of the original Hero generic latest ROM.
I might consider givng another senseUI 2.1 option a try before i make my final judgement, but that's just my experience with the MoDaCo one so far.
has anyone tried the new VILLAIN 1.0??? it seems to be almost perfect! i'm gonna try it tomorrow...if anyone has already tried it please tell me how it works!

Running very nicely here, its just missing the htc mail program so no exchange support and a couple of problems with the htc weather program not liking other locations

Yeh I just looked at that, and the exchange and lack of HTC keyboard are the only two things keeping me from flashing to it just yet. (I'm a perfectionist, so it's gotta be perfect before I'll even consider it.)
yes i read those problems...but can be resolved easily...so, when the cook will release the next version, i'll flash instantly! goodnight
I suggest KaguDroid 1.1 or later, or AOSP 2.1-r2 or later, if you can handle a vanilla (no sense ui).
Villain has Sense; which is nice because of Facebook contact sync. All other parts of Sense can be imitated by apps (like the clock/weather can be done by beautiful widgets). There are some other issues with Network Location and there is no included HTC or Android music widget in Villain. Although I prefer the HTC home-screen, I also prefer the Android lock-screen.
KaguDroid includes voice input from the keyboard, so you can use dictation to enter text into a field in ANY app.
Villain doesn't provide the HTC IME keyboard, or voice input (as of today).
Market works without using Market Enabler, for Rogers (Canada) in Kagu/AOSP. SMS incoming timestamps are correct without using SMSfixtimes in Kagu/AOSP.
As far as stability is concerned, I haven't really had issues with any of Villain/Kagu1.1/AOSP2.1-r2

Just got a Desire

hello guys,
i own a htc magic and i just got a desire for my brother ;( (yea i know, ill get my one soon though) and i want to root it and put a custom rom on it.
i just have a few general questions.
what stable rom would you recommend? which one is the most popular? and what recovery should i go for?
and another one should i go ahead and get a class 6 micro sd card or am i good with a class 2 one?
thank you.
ps apologies if it is in the wrong section.
class 2 will do, leedroid is a good stable sense rom, use unrevoked method for rooting, if ur ph is branded make a gold card. see the sticky in this forum called "complete guide to rooting"
Hi there!
It's been ages since i got my Desire, and I am still satisfied - Your Bro made a good choice .
For the recovery, I use Clockwork-MOD. Now, people have reported USB bricking when using the latest version (and I can attest to that, as it bricked me, and it is a pain in the arse to fix). However, the convenience of nandroid working from rom manager, and verification disabled by default make it worth the risk IMO. You would probably want to go for AmonRA-2.0.0 GSM which is feature packed and has not had reports about usb bricking. UnrEVOked will root and flash your recovery, but if that doesnt work, you can always use FASTBOOT. I recommend that you disable Security, and use AlphaREV to S-OFF the desire, as it will allow you to ues FASTBOOT and give you R/RW permissions in android.
In terms of the MicroSD card, I am using a Class 2, and have no troubles. the CLASS is only its minimum sustained write, some Class 2 cards exceed Class 6 cards, just luck of the draw.
Regarding a stable rom, you will get a billion and one different oppinions.
If you like Sense UI, I suggest AuraxTSense or LeeDroid (for the old version of Sense), or ReflexTSense or RCMixHD (for the new version of Sense - Sense HD).
Sense vs Sense HD: Both have different benefits. For example, HD roms have a more intuitive interface (in my opinion). However, in terms of performance, I find that the Old Sense roms are much smoother and reliable. Again, just my opinion. However, Sense Roms (both old and new) have less battery life than competing roms.
You then have CyanogenMOD type roms. These roms are built from the source, and are updated all the time. They have a very complete feature set, and have lots of users to help with. Oh, and Bluetooth HID works out of the box (it will not work on Sense Roms). Battery life is good too. However, the interface is not consistent, and some of the stock applications (such as the dialer, or the music app) have (in my opinion) a downright ugly look about them. But again, everything works very well, and they are very speedy roms.
Finally, you have (my recommendation) MIUI. MIUI is based on the Source (like CyanogenMOD, kinda), and adds a very very well implemented interface. The dialler, for example, is better than the Sense one, I recon. Prettier, lots of functionality (recording calls is two button presses away). Everything that works in CyanogenMOD roms works in MIUI (except the newest camera features and Bluetooth HID (but are workarounds for both)). MIUI comes stock with a brilliant music application, custom lockscreen (with music controls and spectrum vis), File manager, Contacts, Messaging and FM radio (the FM Radio that is found in CyanogenMOD based roms came from here).
So that is what i recon; MIUI is a great rom to start with. It has good battery life, it is one of the fastest type of rom on the block (faster than other roms build from the source, in some cases) and doesnt require you to install many applications to add functionality that you would expect it comes with.
Also , it is updated every friday (and translated version are usually released the same or the next day).
I use the Au-MIUI version (www.miui-au.com) created by S-Murpyh, who keeps a very well rounded release, and great support.
Just my opinions, though.
Josh.
thank you very much for the quick responses. for me sense is old, cyanogen im using on my magic which is great no doubt, but MIUI sounds tempting will check it out further.
thanks very much for the info and the description. ill be on my way now guess ill give MIUI rom a whirl.
sorry again about thread placement.
Oxygen if you can do without Sense apps. If Sense apps are a necessity, then you should go for Pays. IMHO...
Rom.
Hey man,
i guess the custom rom you want depends whether you like the classic android
froyo and it's speed, or the slightly more lagging, yet much more good looking,
htc sense. If you're opting for the latter, then i would suggest RCMix's HD rom for
speed and stability, but like i said, if you prefare the classic froyo UI then i would
personally recommend DeFroST-6.1, im currently using it and i've found it an
absolute dream.
Have fun whatever you opt for,
sam.
be forewarned... MIUI kind of taste like iPhone fever.
...but maybe thats just me.

[Q] Sense ROMs and HTC locations

Hi all, looking for some advice before i root my Z (it's feeling a bit sluggish, so want to OC it)
I use HTC locations alot for the offline navigation. Do the stock (ish) sense ROMs have HTC locations enabled/working?
Also do any sense ROM's sync properly with HTC sense. I have paid a subscription for voice guided navigation (which i assume authenticates using the HTC sense interface - correct me if im wrong). If i flash a sense ROM will my subscription still be active once i sync my HTC sense account?
Lastly... i know HTC is planning to release a gingerbread update by the end of June. Will the devs (god bless them) get a rooted version of this out with HTC locations and sense syncing working soon after release.
Thanks for your time and advice
You can root and overclock, and still stay on the stock ROM. You don't need to go to a custom ROM, unless that is what you are looking to do. I've used the Godspeed kernel with the stock 1.34 ROM with good results. Everything on the stock ROM remains intact, it just opens up the CPU clock options.
As far as your question on Locations working on custom ROMs, every custom ROM is different, so that is too vague a question. What ROM in particular are you looking at? I've tried Virtuous (which is "stockish" as you mentioned), and Locations works fine.
Access to the Sense account is via email address and your Sense password, so that should be easy to migrate (if you switch ROMs). I haven't had any issues going between ROMs and being able to login to my Sense account. I don't use the paid navigation. But I would think that is linked to your Sense account the same way.
As far as a rooted version of the upcoming Gingerbread (with Sense) update, you'll have to wait and see what happens (like everybody else!). A rooted version will probably be available. And everything working is pretty likely too, but we won't know what the developers will run into until it actually happens. I think you would need a crystal ball to be able to know any more than that.
Thanks mate. I should have poked around the dev section more before posting this. Looks like everything is working on Virtuous Sense

sense rom

ive been searching for some time on the best 3.0 sense rom,my friend rooted my g2 and im TOTALLY new to this, i flash my first rom the other day "virtuous_fusion-vision_rom-v1.0.0" it has a few glitches every time i unlock the screen, not receiving some text, and lots of lag when i use the actual phone, now im using "synergy virtuous sense v3.1.0+" but the orange light comes on random and my battery is NOT good at all. i dont want to do the " DZHBOOT", i just want a rom that i put on my sd card and flash it .. thanks in advance and i promise i have done a lot of searching , but like i said im NEW to rooting.
hey,
first off: As far as I know all the native sense 3.0 or 3.5 roms for the dz/g2 need the dz hboot, this is due to the fact that the newer sense roms rely on more space available in the system partition, which the dz hboot allows for. Most (if not all) roms that do not require the dz hboot are based on a sense 2.0 rom which has been outfitted with certain apps and features from sense 3.0 roms.
One example of a sense 2 rom with additions from v3 is: Insert Coin by siulmagic. Though I haven't tried this and can't tell you know how it runs.
Should you ever feel brave enough to make the switch, here's a nice step by step guide by the virtuous team: Click me
One more thing: The orange LED turning on seemingly at random is usually due to the screen-off crt animation. Whenever you pull out the keyboard the led will light up and only turn off once you touch the status bar. This issue occurs with quite a number of roms.
Virtuous Fusion is old, and was replaced by Unity back in June. You'll see in the Fusion thread, that it ends in June. And yes, unfortunately you need the Desire Z HBoot for Unity.
The SMS issue (not receiving some messages) is common to Sense 3.0 builds (at least Fusion and Unity). Sense 3.0 launcher uses most of the phone's memory, so it interferes with the native SMS client. I use Unity and a 3rd party SMS app (Chomp SMS), and I have not had any issues with receiving texts.
Insert Coin, as recommended above, seems to be pretty popular, as it incorporates many Sense 3 features, but is a Sense 2 ROM.
You're going to be forced into using the DZ hboot at some point. The trade-off is that the Desire Z hboot allegedly allocates more memory for the system partition at the expense of less memory in the data partition, which actually works out nicely for devs as they have more to work with and have less to worry about in terms of constraints.
The missing SMS problem is caused by the Sense UI taking up a large amount of RAM (on Virtuous Unity I only have 386MB RAM with about 150MB free after killing apps and processes). Some of people running VU (like myself) use a swap partition to get around the missing SMS problem, some say its smoother whereas others have reported it as being sluggish and the only downside I can think of right now is that after a while widgets will become corrupt and AFAIK the only fixes are either disabling the swap partition or living with not having any or tons of widgets on your homescreen.
This is more to do with personal opinion but CM7.1 just felt so sluggish so I ditched it, returned to VU and haven't looked back.
Thanks so much , ok so what I was really looking for a sense rom with 3.0 add ons ill try that one and see how it turns out, i read about that hzboot but like I said I'm not familiar with all this rooting so I wanted some thing simple so if u need to return it to tmobile I could unrooted back( hopefully ill know how lol) ill try that rom out, so on that rom I need to download the older version and the new one right, install old one first and then the new one correct,? Thnks for all the help and sorry if I sound stupid. Ill learn ( hopefully lol)

[Q] Best ROM for Desire Z for BEST RAM PERFORMANCE

Hello. I need help regarding the best ROM for my Desire Z. I need either sense 3.0 or sense 3.5 and need the best possible ram as i have already installed 4 ROMs and i have had problems with lags in messages and the lag in circle ring lock. overall homescreens as smooth but i need ram for reading msgs fast and applications launch quickly like on my default sense 2.1. i have tried runnydroid which is probably the fastest in homescreen scrolling but very weak in ram and opening apps. currently running desire HD rom with sense 3.0 v1.3 which is slightly better but i need something better in terms of RAM and with sense 3.0 or 3.5
help would be really appreciated
thanks
first of all, let's clear things out... sense 3.x was never meant to run on our desire z, i say HTC made a mistake when they released an official 3.x update
second, sense 3.x needs LOTS of ram to work. So, you don't have enough ram to run apps, solution? try the v6 supercharger script, set it as multitasking settings...
want more? make a SWAP partition on your sdcard, SWAP makes a part of your sdcard to work as ram...
want even more, you can bulletproof you messages app in order not to automatically kill it when in need of ram
i'll give you links if you want

First of all thanks for your kind replies. Riro Zizo thanks alot for these links. Can you tell me which ROM what work the best with these? the thing is that there must be a ROM which would be better in RAM performance. like my desire HD rom was better than runnydroid at least it was usable. now what do u mean by official sense 3.0 update? my last update was android 2.3.3 with 2.1 sense which is why i installed custom roms to get newer sense. thanks a lot
and blackknightavalon what do u mean by AOSP?
thanks a lot
oh one more thing. ive heard that with swap the sdcard gets a lower life and it dies quickly after a while
Android open source project. Like CyanogenMod, for example.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Same position as you on Desire Z and HAD to have Sense 3 - well after trying Unity and Affinity and another that wouldn't even boot and loads of crashes and mem issues I gave up. Yes I did the swap partition (for Leedroid/Ace but those never would install via CM recovery 5) didn't do the supercharger thing...but eventually went to G-Lite and really happy.
Sense is great but slow/laggy, even on Virtuous Sense or my stock rom...my OTA GB was slow too. Best to find or invest in a few apps or widgets and switch to a non Sense rom like G-Lite cos RAM is a real issue on the Z it seems (reason for rooting apart from the usual privacy/adware stuffs was speed, upset at seeing LOADING every time I opened my homescreen)

I agree... Sense-less ROMs are the best ones and they run the smoothest on Desire Z. I first took on CM7 and then moved to Bulletproof's MIUI which stopped me from selling my phone. However, even then the phone started to lag after a months use. Next step was to move to Elitemod244 which is basically based on CM7 but supercharged and ultra-fast. This stopped me from dumping my phone to get a Galaxy Nexus.
I would recommend that you try Elitemod244 (or the latest version if you want) and then modify it to your liking. It will take some time, but at least your phone will be fast and would work as it should instead of hanging or reloading the launcher time n time again.
thanks for your kind replies but the thing is i NEED sense 3.0 or 3.5 and i will run this desire HD rom if i dont get any other roms. ive already used cyangenmod already but i need sense. are there any roms which might be better than the desire HD rom? and im recently having an issue that i dont receive all text messages and some of these are lost in this particular rom. any way to fix this?

In that case i would go for Virtuous Sense, doesn't have to much bullsht in it..
And for the lost messages, there is standard an app installed in these roms that collects all your messages.
Btw.. I'm surfing xda for 2 years now daily, and today is the first time i made an account Really EVERYTHING about everything has been asked before i came here, so there was no need for it.
Just wanted to say this...
you can try any sense rom you want without any issues if you do all these tweaks i told you about... launcher reloads can be solved by making a file called "local.prop" in /data/ (if you already have the file, edit it) and put this inside it
Code:
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1
and reboot... this WILL solve your problem, GUARANTEED
Why do you need Sense that bad? We're trying to get rid of it over on the MT4GS boards.

Just curious, what do you need Sense for?
I was losing text messages also, but I solved that by preventing the messaging apk from being closed. It's a simple setting in Cyanogenmod, but I believe that is what Riro Zizo is talking about when they say Bulletproof an app.

Blackout incredible has Sense 3.6 And when I apply the v6Supercharger it works pretty fine. But remember that you need to Format your SD card before you install it. It gives you extra performance. atleast it happened to me.
I fully understand why you might want a SENSE rom.
I have tried many roms since my DZ is out of warranty, the Mimicry one was nearly the best, except it had bad performances after some weeks of usage.
And this AOSP was a android 4 rom with nice custom features, but there was a LOT i missed from SENSE. Let's just talk about the weather/clock widget, the audio player, the FM radio app, the nice interface, the perfect virtual keyboard...
Sense really offers the best user experience on that phone.
A few days ago I finally the perfect rom, you should try it: TrickDroid 4.0.0
As told in the corresponding topic on xda, you just absolutely need to enable swap because it's a full Sense 4.
And if you want some specific tweaks from AOSP, of you want to remove some things from Sense, the TrickDroid Tweaks allows you to simply do that.
