Scrambled up launcher on ICS Rom (Desire Z) - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have installed JIBwich ICS for Desire Z from user xT4Z1N4TRx today. I think it is fastest ics ROM available right now and it could be used on daily basis. However one problem I seem to have with all ICS rooms I tried is this:
Code:
Basically all text on Apex launcher is scrambled up, sometimes it happens even in system settings.... it disappears after restarting, but it is back again in 10 minutes of use. When I tried GOlauncher everything seemed okay.
Has anyone experienced this problem?

Yes everyone is having this. If you would take the time to read through the ics topics you would have known this.
You dont need to restart your phone every time. Just kill the launcher and you good.

It's a known bug in the ICS roms.

[Q] Keyboard Lag Help

This is my first post here and I'm hoping that someone will be able to help me. I've checked other threads and have not found anything that seems like a solution.
Before rooting my phone, I would get keyboard lag randomly when trying to type an SMS. The lag only occurred with the landscape keyboard and only sometimes. To describe it, I would be hitting the keys, typing fine, and then it suddenly no letters would show up when I hit them. A few seconds later, the letters would all show, with no correction or word suggestion.
About a week ago I rooted my phone and I have been running Virtuous v3.1 with INCredible REVOlution theme and the HTC_IME keyboard. I had the stock kernel running and had the same keyboard lag. I switched to the Virtuous custom Kernel and continued to have the problem. I am currently running Adrynalyne's battery.zip kernel for battery life, but continue to have the lag.
Before it is suggested, I switched back to the stock, touch input keyboard and have the lag there too.
If there are any suggestions as to what I can do, please help
(side note: I tried MIUI for a short time and did not notice keyboard lag there, though I only had it running for a few hours)
no answers here but I've had the same issue with swype on cm6 and desire z port. it'll lag randomly and the trace stops then it'll jump and catch up

I'm using the stock messenger app.
Oh I have no idea I randomly get a lot of lag using handcent but it feels like that's caused by messages getting "stuck" and not fully coming.through

I've tried flashing Cyanogenmod and there was no keyboard lag there either, seems to only happen with any sense based roms. It really sucks because I really like Virtuous but I might have to get used to MIUI or Cyanogenmod just so that I can type my texts without lag...

I'm running the stock sense 2.2 and I don't have any lag at all. Backup your ROM and try it out.
It seems that any sense rom, stock or not, makes the keyboard lag, any AOSP rom does not. Looks like I'll be sticking with cyanogenmod for a while.

Smoothest gb rom?

imcurrently on cm7 rc2 with launcher pro but im beyond sick of the homescreen lag on adw and launcher pro and would perfer a stock launcher that runs smooth as smooth can get. is it even possible to have the nexus s lwp running on a rom without any lag? i tried oxygen and redux but 4 some reason after i reset my phone, i get sim card errors. posted multiple helpposts but to no avail. any1 have suggestions? its to the point im contemplating going back to stock just so i feel stable again
ADWLauncherEx works a dream on CM7. Search the forum for the launcher built by Google. It runs smooth. As for a Gingerbread rom, CM7 works well and I have no issues with it at all (currently using RC2). Oxygen is good but I had rebooting and bootloop issues with it because it is useless. Tried Redux about 2 month ago and it was ok to use. For me at least, CM7 works the best but go ahead and try them out.
You can try Zeam, very fast and stable.

I can vouch for Zeam too it's very quick and smooth, very nice launcher with some nice tweakable bits (dock, screen rotate, etc.). I'm using GingerVillain 1.6 and I'm very pleased with the results although using Launcher Pro as got bored with Zeam (only because I like to change things fairly regularly!). GingerVillain is a slimed down CM7 from what I can work out although never used CM7 myself. It still comes with CM Settings built in and the notification widgets which I believe started life in CM Roms. If you find a really smooth GB rom I'd be interested in your thoughts as I'm always on the look out for a good smooth/fast up to date Rom!

I was the same, no issues with CM7, but I did like Oxygen, so I flashed it again last night, boot loop within the first 12 hours. Found a supposed fix this morning. Apparently the time_in_state file is only designed to handle a max of 20 cpu steps, making the time_in_state file read only is supposed to fix the issue as a temporary measure. I've not had a loop since, but it was only 8 hours ago that I made the change, so time will tell. As far as smooth goes though, Oxygen is the smoothest I've tried if you don't experience the bootloops. (Some do some don't)
How about trying them all like everyone else does instead of asking pointless questions?

[Q] Which ICS ROM is the best?

And by that I mean most advanced. I'm the Sense loving guy, but I've heard a lot of good things about ICS. I'd like to try it out, but honestly I can't figure out which of the few existing ROMs to choose. I'm aware of that most of them are still in the alpha-beta phase, but I hoped someone could help me pick one. Or is it better to just wait for Sense 3.6 ROM?
I can vouch for the Sandvold ICS (Bet 0.3.6). I have been running it on my Desire for several days now. If you use Titanium Backup, be careful restoring too much of the system data (I successfully restored the SMS/MMS stuff, but didn't bother with anything else). I also had to restore my APN settings to default to get my mobile data to work (Settings->More->Mobile Networks->Access Point Names->Menu->Reset to default).
I can also confirm that partictioning your SD card to provide an sd-ext works along with a2sd (including the Dalvik Cache) - the the Desire has a ridiculously small amount of internal ram.
Haven't had any issues at all.
Damian
i can recommand BCM b0.3.3 (Bravo CM9) rom which you find here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403113
using it for days now and semms to be very stable. i came from the sandvold rom. in my opinion the cm9 rom is a bit faster than the sandvold rom.
i deleted some apps to fit the rom in data++ hboot. but i think app2sd works fine with this rom
i'm using BCM too for a while now, very stable.
I have had a strange wifi problem (the wifi router on chanel 13 hasn't been seen by phone, the one on chanel 7 without problem) fixed with wifixmanager.
In my opinion, Sense is not needed dead freight.

Chromium v1.5 ICS custom rom with a lot of tweaks and much more, fast and stable.

I've tried both Sandvold an BCM, and my favorite is BCM. Both roms works well on my phone, but I had an issue with the sound quality on Sandvolds rom when playing music. I also like some of the features that CM brings, but that is my personal opinion. Both roms are stable on my phone.
I only tried Sandvolds Rom until now but maybe Im going to try BCM
Virtuous Quattro RC3 for HTC Desire. Check my signature guys.

That looks interesting I'm getting my hands on a Desire phone that I will setup for my gf. Can't you make a thread here on XDA for the VQ on the Desire in English as my polish is non existent
There are more feedback between Sandvod and BCM ?
BCM-b0.3.4
Now i have an GPS issue, everything else seems to run without problem, or better, like a charm
I had this GPS issue before, than, after an update, it was gone, now it's back.
"stop-and-go" gps, reception every some seconds.

Momme
Hello!
I have installed the BCM b0.3.4 today. Although it makes a good impression, it seems to drain the battery. No idea what it is about, but the phone is hot and its CPU work with its maximum frequency.
Best regards!

New Sandvold build is the tits, I'm surprised at how far they've come, tried the bcm build as per recommendation of people here but battery died way too fast and wasn't as stable.
I am also on Sandvold. I have it running for 2 days now and haven't come across a single bug until now.
At first it was very slow and laggy, but after 2 hours or so (I really don't know why. 2 hours for everything loading at first boot?) it became all smooth.
The only thing that REALLY REALLY annoys me is that I am stuck with 5 homescreens, when I only need 2 or 3.
ATTENTION!
Sandvold's ROM came with data roaming enabled per default!
If you live close to the border you should check that setting before entering your SIM card PIN.
I've tried them both. Sandvod's version is much better, no bugs for me so far
I've been using Sandvold's rom for a while now. Newest version is excellent. Plus the gallery actually works with it!
Also you can change the battery indicator from this thread. I'm currently using v.4.
Now i'm using Miui-2.1.27 ICS, and it works very well . I like so much Miui customisation

tried BCM, but didn't like it.
Hello!
I found a serious bug: Obviously the VPN via IPSEC/L2TDP is broken in all Android 4-versions. For me this is a no-go and I reverted back to CM 7.

[Q] Slow recent apps on Ice Cold Sandwich

Hi guys,
I have a problem for which i can't seem to find a solution through search. I'm on the latest Ice Cold Sandwich and the recent apps function (holding home button) gets really slow after a while. It seems to me that the function holds to many apps in memory causing it to be slow. I tried nova launcher which made it a little faster but not quite solved the problem.
Does anyone know a way to adjust the number of apps this function holds in memory?
Thanks
Not that I know of. And changing the launcher won't help since recent apps list is not related to it. I was a longtime IceColdSandwich user till Lord Clockan stopped active development for it. It's gotten buggy over time and especially because he was blind developing it without a phone to test on. After some use the ROM UI becomes slow overall. For ICS, I'd recommend aospX. It's the most stable ICS ROM. However it's pure AOSP and won't have AOKP/CM features like IceColdSandwich except the quick toggles in the notification bar. I'd also recommend you they the codefireX JellyBean nightlies. They are CM10 with some AOKP features and are more stable than IceColdSandwich in my experience. There a also JellyTime which is CM10 only. Since these are JellyBean ROMs, they are by default faster than ICS throughout. Everything works including 720p video recording and there are no major bugs that hamper usability.
Of course I'm only talking about AOSP ROMs. There are many stable Sense ICS ROMs if you like Sense.

As sashank said, you're not the only one facing slowing down issues with IceColdSandwich. It seems a lot of users are experiencing slow downs in the overall UI after a couple of days using the ROM.
I'm a fan of Sense ROMs, and there are a couple very stable ones around.
Thanks guys,
Might be time to switch to a jellybean ROM then....

Let us know how it goes for you..
Yeah, I am in the same boat. IceCold Sandwich while formally rock steady, now is just laggy. I flashed over to Jellytime, but my wifi was so unstable at home that I have axed that one as well. I had Jellytime around B7 and had no issues with wifi. R12 & R13 are completely unusable for me. Oh well, time for something else.

[Q] Best Custom ROM on DHD for office/business use

hi
I have a 2 year old DHD and have been using stock ROM for all these days for office use. I do not play games on mobile or install many apps. So I am kind of used to the Sense layout and design which in itself is quite neat. But having used it for so long, i have rooted and started trying various ROMs available here. Is there a ROM that satisfies all these?
My daily requirements.
1. Neat dialer with perfect T9 option
2. Exchange mail with lot of search options
3. Fast and meaty key board
4. SMS to email option (like in Blackberry)
5. Speaker on and off while talking
6. Stock market widget
7. Weather
8. At least one day battery life
9. Auto screen rotation in camera, gallery etc
10. Full screen video
11. Shortcuts on home screen
12. Hotspot
13. Bluetooth
So these are some of my most used options on DHD. While some of the ROMs have full functionality, few options are missing. Since my battery is already old, I am not complaining about battery life.
Have used CM 7.2, JellyTime R29, CodefireX 4.2.1, Sabsa Prime 10, Venom DHD till now. Every rom has some quirks.
CM 7.2 stable- Best ROM of all. Except for the poor exchange mail. There is no option to search mails. When i click the search option, nothing happens. Is this a bug or this functionality is missing in CM 7.2? Can we flash JB Exchange mail APK over 7.2? What about CM 7.2 nightlies? What is the reason for CM continuing work on 2.3.7 when rest of the world is already moving on to bigger things?
If this exchange mail issue is solved, then I am going to use CM as my daily driver. Please suggest.
Seeing that you're used to sense, I'll recommend Blackout ICS, it is sense 3.6. Fast and stable, and I don't think there are any issues too

Thanks. Will try Blackout shortly. But in ICS ROMs, stock widget is missing. Its there in Htc sense 3 but missing in sense 4.
Can I flash new jb mail apk over cm 7.2? Pls let me know.

Vote for Venom
Venom DHD is working the best for me right now. I havent run accross anything not working and battery life is middle of the road.
I keep trying each of the jellys but they're just not all there. They work pretty well, but miss some important feature like, mute or BT. Once they get those nailed down, I'll seriously consider going that route.
You can't install HTC apps without having sense built in to the rom. Try the last two suggestions, you'll like one of them.
Btw, I used k9 email for my 3 work email accounts, it's better than stock plus it's easier to backup and restore.

I'll second blackout ICS. I find that sense 4.1 is way too heavy for the DHD. Sense 3.6 is a lot lighter and faster, you'll have less app force closes and annoying freezes due to not having enough memory. I personally like Nikhil's ICS, which is sense 4a. It's fast, but sense 4a has a lot of the stock widgets removed for lightness (the HTC One V (the original phone the ROM is based on) has even less RAM than us)).

thanks for the suggestion. Though I have not tried Blackout, have tried ICS via Sabsa Prime. Didnt like it completely. Now I am currently using Codefirex 4.2.1 and found it adequate for my use. I fell in love with native exchange mail and gmail UI. I have tried Touchdown, K-9 mail etc but they have very poor UI. Just deleted them with in few hours of usage.
Why nobody is answering my question on possibility of flashing JB mail APK on CM 7.2. In my view CM 7.2 is the most well developed custom rom for Ace. Sad to see that CM is no longer working on CM10.
I tried Sabsa Prime, Blackout, Sabsa Bliss and the others. Sense 4 is not suits me, I don't know why. I used Blackout 1 or 2 months but it wasn't stable for me. Then I gave a chance to S.Bliss and I don't think to change anymore. Sabsa Bliss is stable and fast. I don't have any idea about flashing JB mail APK on CM 7.2
