This is my first post here and I'm hoping that someone will be able to help me. I've checked other threads and have not found anything that seems like a solution.
Before rooting my phone, I would get keyboard lag randomly when trying to type an SMS. The lag only occurred with the landscape keyboard and only sometimes. To describe it, I would be hitting the keys, typing fine, and then it suddenly no letters would show up when I hit them. A few seconds later, the letters would all show, with no correction or word suggestion.
About a week ago I rooted my phone and I have been running Virtuous v3.1 with INCredible REVOlution theme and the HTC_IME keyboard. I had the stock kernel running and had the same keyboard lag. I switched to the Virtuous custom Kernel and continued to have the problem. I am currently running Adrynalyne's battery.zip kernel for battery life, but continue to have the lag.
Before it is suggested, I switched back to the stock, touch input keyboard and have the lag there too.
If there are any suggestions as to what I can do, please help
(side note: I tried MIUI for a short time and did not notice keyboard lag there, though I only had it running for a few hours)
no answers here but I've had the same issue with swype on cm6 and desire z port. it'll lag randomly and the trace stops then it'll jump and catch up

I'm using the stock messenger app.
Oh I have no idea I randomly get a lot of lag using handcent but it feels like that's caused by messages getting "stuck" and not fully coming.through

I've tried flashing Cyanogenmod and there was no keyboard lag there either, seems to only happen with any sense based roms. It really sucks because I really like Virtuous but I might have to get used to MIUI or Cyanogenmod just so that I can type my texts without lag...

I'm running the stock sense 2.2 and I don't have any lag at all. Backup your ROM and try it out.
It seems that any sense rom, stock or not, makes the keyboard lag, any AOSP rom does not. Looks like I'll be sticking with cyanogenmod for a while.

Ok... I've been through just about every Gingersense ROM on the forums for the DInc and I continue to run into the same issues... 3G and 1X completely dropping off, GPS not working, text messages not in chronological order, etc. I know that they're all still in "beta" form, but which one is everyone finding to be the most stable?
I pretty much have try all of them... and have found
GingerSense ReMix (B4) the most stable the only problem i found is it will boot when you open maps... it doesn't happen often.... but YouTube works fine... try it your self and see how it goes....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1089295
I like GingerSense ReMix (B4) as well. I've only had the map reboot happen on me once or twice. I do miss Verizon Visual Voicemail, but I haven't found that on any ROMs yet.
I like NilsP's Business GingerSense.

Uber Roms.... lol
Ran GingerSense Remix B4; couldn't get GPS/Maps or Gmail to work and it was very unstable.
I like what is going on with Uber, but it is clear from the thread that it is still fairly unstable, too.
Now on day #2 of Nil's Business GingerSense 1.0. But for a simple workaround for the GPS, everything runs smoothly, and I'm okay with using it as a daily for now.
I have been running Nils Business Gingersense for a couple days now too. I've had no problems running it as my daily other the GPS issue but there is a workaround for it. Sometimes apps down download and install in market when you try to.
Been using Nils' but I have a few problems:
Swype sometimes requires a keyboard switch to either stock or Touch, then back to Swype, because it forgets how to interpret swipes. You can still tap the words in but that defeats the purpose of Swype.
Soft reset sometimes when an app tries to use GPS. I know you have to toggle it a few times until it works, but I've had it bomb out even after doing that.
Occasional HARD lockups, like requiring a battery pull.
Other than that, it's pretty, it's fast, and it's usable.

I have tried others, but NilsP's is the best so far. Everyone claims that AOSP and non-sense roms are fast but in my experience it doesn't seem that way.
Sliding screen to screen all AOSP (CM7, OMGB, OMFGB, with various kernels have screen sliding lag or lack of smoothness when switching to other screens) and I can't stand it.
I have tried other gingersense roms but they had many FC's. NilsP's seems to be the best for me of all the roms i have tried.
I have tried several of the ginger sense ROMS with 2.1/3.0 touches. I really like the lock screen from sense 3.0. It is really nice. I am currently running gingersense remix B4. I use it as a daily driver. The only problem I have found is that occasionally maps or other programs using the GPS will do a soft reboot.
I don't use the stock messaging apps as I have handcent. I havn't noticed the text message time issue. As for battery life and everything it is pretty nice. This one is smooth and effective.
What is the most up todate AOSP ROM?
I'm also interested to know this. I've tried Cyanogen and the home button stopped functioning thus rendering it almost unusable without having to press back all the time and I've tried Gingerbeast from the Inspire 4G section and that had constant messages popping up telling me that com.android.phone has force-closed. I would really like to try a fully functional AOSP rom to flash but I've had no joy to date.
Are there any working alternatives?
Try [email protected] or Hydrogen Mod.
Imo [email protected] has a better performance.

try cynanogenmod 7 nightly or miui
Tried Hydrogen. I was impressed until I found out that the bluetooth doesn't work. I need bluetooth to work to connect to my in-car handsfree as I drive at least 2 hours a day. I'm contemplating a MIUI Rom but the fact that it looks similar to the hideous iphone UI makes me think twice.

Home button works fine here, running nightly #179
HydrOG3n is a really nice ROM. Love the default font and the black theme. Its very fast and light weight. The ROM is only 74 meg
I ended up using latest CM7 nightly, it performs really good and my phone.
No problems, so far.
I'm getting my incredible back from warranty repairs soon and it'll be on the last leg of its life since my upgrade is near and I have my heart set on the Galaxy Nexus. In the meantime, despite my love for sense I was planning on learning to live without sense by going to a more pure android rom. I've never tried CM7 so far. I would like to know if there are things that don't work well with CM that would otherwise be fine on an htc rom, like device drivers or such? or if there are some incompatibilities between how apps interact because the hardware is now not supported the same way as it was before?
also is CM7 significantly faster in its routine operation than the HTC based roms?
From my understanding, the only thing that does not work in CM7 is 720p video.
It should be as fast, if not faster, than Sense 1.0 ROMs.

CM7 is the most stripped down, fastest, rom on the market. better battery life without all the bloat. sense is all UI and easier user experience rom. i would give it a try. you will like it.

sounds like sound advice. thank you.

what radio? 2.15.00.08.08?
try miui. even better battery life
^ um no
Get tiamats kernel with it he just made a governor called no lag !
Really good lockscreen from cm7 too

Try chads incredikernel, set it to smartass v2 and lower the min clock speed to 128 best battery life/lag free experience you can get on this phone.
Condemned CyanogenMod V8 Vanilla all the way. Along with incredikernel/smartass2 govnah'. Smooth as butter.
First i installed stable cm 7.1 with tiamats kernel. (i had formatted everything and wiped dalvik). it was fast, but FC'ed all over the place. even the settings tab would fc. i thought maybe the adw launcher was bugged, but after going through a painful process just to get the market and titanium on there to uninstall adw, still no luck. not to mention the auto brightness service would fc so my screen would get stuck being too bright or too dim, and the phone would never shut down, just hang with the shutting down dialog till battery pull.
needless to say but i reflashed, this time with condemned v8 and chads incredikernel that comes along with it. performance is very smooth and no real FCs except for one thing but that was probably my fault. it also comes with the market so i dont have to jump through hoops to get the market. removed adw and put launcher pro on there (i understand if u hate me, i just think launcher is a bit more stable).

Same problem I had with tiamats kernel. I did a full wipe and tried Chad's / tinys and haven't seen a problem on cm7.

Yeah, my phone absolutely hates Tiamat Kernels. It seems to have some kind of love affair with Chad and Tiny's Kernels though. lol
In my experience MIUI has been better than CM7. I have only been using MIUI about a week, but there are no force closes, it doesn't lose my numbers and texts like CM.
However, I can't get wired tethering too work in either. Can't install a driver for RNDIS.

no 720p video recording and tv-out.
Everything else works and outperforms HTC Sense.
Stupid MIUI broke my power button, had to replace Incredible.
CM7 is a great rom, the amount of support it has and the skill of the development team make it a top notch rom, you should atleast try it out.
Cm7 (whatever flavor), incredikernel, ext 4 mod no limit- dalvik moved, and adrenaline shot.
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
cm7 (+ whatever condemned brings along) has been working great now.
i've looked into MIUI and frankly i don't think i am going to even trying it. imitating iOS is not what i want to do. i have an ipod and i don't particularly like the ui aspects of ios. i don't know why anyone would want to make their android ui like ios.
Hello, I have installed JIBwich ICS for Desire Z from user xT4Z1N4TRx today. I think it is fastest ics ROM available right now and it could be used on daily basis. However one problem I seem to have with all ICS rooms I tried is this:
Code:
Basically all text on Apex launcher is scrambled up, sometimes it happens even in system settings.... it disappears after restarting, but it is back again in 10 minutes of use. When I tried GOlauncher everything seemed okay.
Has anyone experienced this problem?
Yes everyone is having this. If you would take the time to read through the ics topics you would have known this.
You dont need to restart your phone every time. Just kill the launcher and you good.

It's a known bug in the ICS roms.
Hi guys,
I have a problem for which i can't seem to find a solution through search. I'm on the latest Ice Cold Sandwich and the recent apps function (holding home button) gets really slow after a while. It seems to me that the function holds to many apps in memory causing it to be slow. I tried nova launcher which made it a little faster but not quite solved the problem.
Does anyone know a way to adjust the number of apps this function holds in memory?
Thanks
Not that I know of. And changing the launcher won't help since recent apps list is not related to it. I was a longtime IceColdSandwich user till Lord Clockan stopped active development for it. It's gotten buggy over time and especially because he was blind developing it without a phone to test on. After some use the ROM UI becomes slow overall. For ICS, I'd recommend aospX. It's the most stable ICS ROM. However it's pure AOSP and won't have AOKP/CM features like IceColdSandwich except the quick toggles in the notification bar. I'd also recommend you they the codefireX JellyBean nightlies. They are CM10 with some AOKP features and are more stable than IceColdSandwich in my experience. There a also JellyTime which is CM10 only. Since these are JellyBean ROMs, they are by default faster than ICS throughout. Everything works including 720p video recording and there are no major bugs that hamper usability.
Of course I'm only talking about AOSP ROMs. There are many stable Sense ICS ROMs if you like Sense.

As sashank said, you're not the only one facing slowing down issues with IceColdSandwich. It seems a lot of users are experiencing slow downs in the overall UI after a couple of days using the ROM.
I'm a fan of Sense ROMs, and there are a couple very stable ones around.
Thanks guys,
Might be time to switch to a jellybean ROM then....

Happy flashing
Let us know how it goes for you..
Yeah, I am in the same boat. IceCold Sandwich while formally rock steady, now is just laggy. I flashed over to Jellytime, but my wifi was so unstable at home that I have axed that one as well. I had Jellytime around B7 and had no issues with wifi. R12 & R13 are completely unusable for me. Oh well, time for something else.
