if the can boot, you needn't to do a wipe.
maybe to do a backup is the best.
失败的中国人正在尝试提高!

do a backup just in case and flash new rom. it shouldn't need any sort of wipe, but if you encounter problems that shouldn't be problems, you can do wipe.. and if it doesn't help, you can easily recover your backup.

Thank u guys very much, just installed it and works well without wiping!

[Q] How to update CM9 from alphaX to alphaY

Hi everybody,
just a quick question.
I flashed CM9 alpha7 a few days ago and now I saw that CM9 alpha8 is available, however if I go on
Menu -> Phone Info -> Update system
I cannot find any update.
So how can I update it to alpha8?
Thank you very much!
Lol, clicked wrong button, didn't mean to abuse thank button
Quoted from CM9
'Upgrades from previous versions of CM9 are the same process as install, except you do not need to wipe anything. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to even wipe cache and dalvik-cache when upgrading between CM9 versions. You only need to wipe if you are doing a major upgrade, switching to a different ROM entirely, or attempting to fix bugs caused by bad backups or corrupt app data.'
So you will need to download the latest ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576874
And flash it through CWM recovery
Hope it helps and good luck

I think it wouldn't lose them since you didn't wipe the data(not 100% sure), but it's always better for you to do a backup, please correct me if I am wrong
Do I have to flash gapps as well?
Yes you have to flash gapps again.

I rebooted into recovery mode, flashed CM9 alpha8 zip, then flash gapps zip, then rebooted.

Laggy / Slow Note 2 even after stock restore

Hi guys, so I have a problem with my Note II. I installed a rom yesterday which is where these problems seem to start from. The phone is glitchy, and when the screen is left of for more than 2 minites or so, it wont turn on unless I remove the battery. Also, after I re-boot the battery level is normally 10% less than before. Another issue I had is that I couldn't boot into recovery after flashing this rom however I have no fixed this by using Odin to re-flash CWM recovery.img. But even after going back to by stock backup I made in CWM before I flashed this rom, the problem still persistes (Laggy, freezes)
All I can think of is that this Rom (Omega 3.0) uses AROMA to install, could that be a issue?
Any Ideas anyone? Im not worried about any of the files on the device just want to get it sorted!
Thanks

Not at all its as easy as a cupcake
Just know the terms for it
Would you hear a brotherly advice (which i would do myself?)
Use the superwipe script from Android Revolution HD and install mike's ROM. It should have the same effect as odin wipe, only better...
Mike's roms are known to be the best ever. They are totally stock! just extreme perfomance...
So its better thsn going back to stock

Right okay that sounds like a plan, I dont know if I will be able to keep the phone on long enough to download all thta and as I cant connect it to the computer unless its in download mode :/ I could give it a go though, could you post a link to what I need please? Yes, im a complete noob
Put the ROM of your choice on internal sdcard (I also put the same zip on the external just in case something goes wrong)
Make the appropriate backups of apps, data, contacts, sms, pictures and whatnot.
Reboot into recovery and do a full wipe, explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909868
Flash ze ROM.
Edit: In CWM, this is how I do a full wipe.
Format system
Format data
Format cache
Format preload
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Sometimes I also do the "fix permissions" at this point.
Then I flash the ROM.

But be sure to put your downloaded rom on SD card, not internal SD...

Try to go back up on stock rom, restore your EFS (if you backed it up!) and claim warranty? there must be a solution with sammy for this...
This isnt normal... you can try :good:
I think thats what im gonna have to do I did try superwipe and still nothing. Is there a easy way to go back to stock? Using odin? Will I have to delete CWM for this? :S

Yes yes deleting CWM is important for that.
And i just found the backup/restore EFS tool for you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922473
Yup you have to go to stock using ODIN...
Try to flash ALIH? I dunno...i thinkthat would be better and less suspicious

Atleast first flash stock rom from sammobile.com (not the rooted ones here)... And then restore EFS...
Then apply check: try to start cwm recovery :good:

Why restoring EFS?? Also i dont think that restoring EFS is ging to erase cwm
Stock roms from sammobile (full roms) include recovery.img, so after flashing with Odin he is going to have stock recovery. After that through stock recovery, wipe cache+wipe data/factory reset.
And before visiting repair center, flash stock rom from sammobile and check your phone if problem is still there. I think that somehow with the custom rom and restoring cwm backup you f***ed up software

Restoring EFS because he is going to give his Note in warranty...
Until you backup and restore your original EFS, samsung keeps the track of the number of times you flash so it does not accept warranty.
Restoring EFS is the only chance to claim warranty.
restoring EFS doesnt remove recovery.. hmmm...
Is there any way to remove recovery?

In order to remove cwm recovery, just flash a full stock rom with pc odin
Are you sure about warranty and EFS? In order to backup/restore original EFS you need root, so one way or another you need to flash one or more times
Are you 100% sure?

[Q] How to update a custom ROM?

Hi, I am using a desire HD with the sabsa prime 6.0 rom installed. Version 7.0 is already out and I want to know how to update my rom from 6.0 to 7.0 without deleting anything and with everything to stay the same just like stock rom updates. Is this possible? Please reply.
Sure it's easy. Just flash the new version in recovery without wiping anything and you're good to go.
I have done this many times before with no problems.

Thanks bro
I know its a pain in the ass to restore everything and it always seems more easier to flash ROMs without wiping anything. But I'd still suggest wiping before flashing for stability reasons. You might encounter some FC's or even crashes.. say if you lose your data because of a crash.. then you'll have no way to recover because you were lazy and never backed up anything.
There are ways to backup almost everything : sms, call logs, apps, etc.. Use them. Or at the very least take a nandroid backup before you flash a new version without wiping.
Yes Do that. Make a Nandroid backup before flashing without full wipe. Some crash can happen so you can come back to 6.0 version. If there's no crash and no lags it would be cool for you.

Why don't you use ti backup? It makes a backup of your apps and data
Though you could try dirty flashing but you will likely run into more issues
Though I would erase everything and clean flash the update

you shouldn't need to clean flash the nightly. just flash it. that's it.
Calisro,
what you mean with this... "you shouldn't need to clean flash the nightly. just flash it. that's it."..??
please explain me....

What he means is that what your trying to do is basically an update.
Your not flashing a different build or rom, your just updating your existing build.
Your just adding some updates and changes that the dev made so that your build is current.
Download update to your sd card, go to your recovery and flash away. (Probably wouldn't hurt to wipe cashe and dalvic)
You should check the rom thread, there may be specific instructions on how to update, usually if no special instruction is posted, its just a matter of flashing the update and rebooting.
By the way "clean flashing" is when you wipe all data, like factory reset.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy W Custom Rom Help..

I'm totally new to this and i want to flash this rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1990795
i just wanna knw to flash this rom step by step. so far i did rooted my device through stock recovery and flash ClockworkMod v6.0.2.9 through odin.
what are the steps should i do next? pls hep.
First paste the ROM and GAPPS into your SDCard.
Then go into Recovery. (The procedure is the same like with stock Recovery. See here.)
Then as Arco described already.
arco68 said:
Install
Use CWM5 or CWM6.
Warning: Only use this recovery to flash CM10. Otherwise, you risk bricking your phone!
Wipe data and cache.
Flash update*.zip.
Flash gapps*.zip. You must flash gapps after every upgrade to CM10 since /system is formatted, wiping your previous add-ons.
Reboot phone.
After you setup your Google account, reinstall the three apps from Market in order to restore most of your apps, call log and SMS history.
Warning: Do not restore backup data of system apps!
If you restore a bad backup with cached settings in telephony.db in data/data/com.*.*.telephony it can break MMS.
It seems that restoring backups can also break Calendar sync.

If you confused how to pristine way you can see the thread in general section. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044861
Other way, you can do full wipe
-wipe data
-wipe cache
-format /system

Better use the one without Picassa, exept you want to use Googles Picassa to store your pictures online. For me it´s more annoying than useful. I use the one without it and even disabled Picassa in my Google Account but nevertheless the Gallery in my Phone is always moaning it couldn´t sync my pics with it when I´m not online.

It is not necessary to do a full backup, but if you encounter problems with your new rom and if you had a backup, it is much more easier to restore a backup with all your files, apps, contacts, sms etc. So it is not necessary but it is highly recommended !!!
You can do a back up with your version of the recovery (CWM6). You do not need CWM5...

I've actually made a pretty complete step-by-step guide when I first flashed my rom, as a guide for my friend. Though some of the links in there might not work anymore, the steps are still pretty clearly shown. If you are interested you can give me your email and I'll forward it to you?
