[FoxFi] Wireless tether w/o root, works with tablets, free - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

FoxFi in the market place. (no outside link, under 8 posts )
Just discovered this. Works perfectly. Works on my Kindle Fire and my brother's iPad (not ad-hoc.)
Note: it launches Sprint Hotspot but doesn't seem to make any changes. From my research it doesn't seem like Sprint notices the usage. Can anyone comment on this?

It works good
My Prime connected up no prob

Currently on FB21 ICS; App installs, runs, and creates Hotspot.
However, iPad2 DOES connect, but says no internet access.
Will test on Android Tablet / Laptop when I get home.

op, you deserve all my thanks for the day as i just bought a xoom
however youll have to settle for just one
reading some reviews.... i hate the market so much
they said to send error reports via email and not to report errors via review... doesn't top idiots

Thank you!
Save me from re-teaching my baby mama over the phone (700 miles away) how to root/Odin again.. And possibly to install cm 9 on her epic 4g keyboard.
She just needed tether for online classes.

Haha you did not have to do all that my friend. There is a thread for odex Hotspot. All you had to do is root with sfhub, load up CWM or if you did not want to do that just push over the two files and your done. I had to do that for a girlfriend of mine as well. Its the easiest way to go... Except for this great find

Loll well last time, she was on froyo and was easy enough to root, using the one click. Had her download all the drivers, Android sdk and other tidbits. (she has the og epic) so with gingerbread could not use the same way lol

Can anyone confirm that Sprint doesn't notice? I'm not launching it until I'm positive I'm not gonna get an inflated bill next cycle.

Trying on laptop and shows connected but limited connectivity without internet access. Does this only work with tablets?
Thanks.

Not sure if that can be confirmed so early in the game but if you shook there are other methods you can use. **smdh**

FoxFi was updated today and now also allows Bluetooth tethering.

Connected now via wifi on my prime. I think working great so far... Hopefully no huge bill in my future.

Connected my galaxy tab with no issues at all, works on 4g also. Thanks op!

Awesome. Can I have your name so that when a bill shows up I can call Sprint and say, "Your employee ____ told me that this app would allow me to illegally dodge your tethering monitors"?

It actually isn't illegal, and on Verizon because of a spectrum deal with the FCC it is actually quietly explicitly allowed. In Sprint, you could argue it is a breach of contract, which is a civil matter, not legal matter.

Picking up my epic when...

I asked the guy activating my phone if he knew anything about the nexus prime. So he goes back to the manager and asks him about it. According to the manager the nexus prime will be released for sprint on release date.
Kinda made me rethink buying the touch, but then I turned on the screen on the phone and forgot everything about the prime.

If they are lucky they know as much as we do. Not that we have some super-hacker-industry-insider level of knowledge...they just seem to be lacking in knowledge on the state of the art in their own industry.
Though, considering what they probably get paid, can you blame them?
Hobbies are much easier to feed than your day job.
I called three sprint stores on 9/14.
1 - Me:Will you be getting the Epic 4G Touch? Them: Yes, it'll be here on Sunday. Me: the website says its released on Friday 9/16. Them: oh ok, then come on friday and go by the website
2- Me:Will you be getting the Epic 4G Touch? Them: Yes, it comes out on the 12th. Me: uh its the 14th today. Them: let me ask (min later) yeah we'll have it on the 16th
3-Me:Will you be getting the Epic 4G Touch? Them: Yes, got one in today. Me: can i come buy one? Them: yes.
and i went and got it with no further hassels.
The manager is talking out of his butt. The Prime will not be coming to Sprint (anytime soon if at all) and there has been nothing to substantiate this rumor. Sprint is getting the iPhone 4s and iPhone 5 which are being released next month and the Nexus Prime is being released on Verizon's network to compete against the iPhone 5.
howd you get it on the 14th?

guy at sprint store sold it to me. they must not have known the release date.
My Sprint store is getting them today (on their way) but they can't sell them until Monday. What the heck? Made me wait all day >.<
I head Verizon skipped on the SGSIIs to secure release exclusivity with Samsung on the Nexus Prime.
Doesn't matter lol I went to 2 sprint stores the first day they were doing preorders neither had any idea what I was talking about til I asked them to check their computers

Just ordered my SGS2 online!

Do you guys think I made the right choice of ordering the sgs2 instead of the Amaze?
How's dev so far for this phone? Any recommendations you guys can give as far rooting, custom rom & kernel?
So excited to get this new phone!

Yes you did make the right chose indeed! The development is kinda slow at the moment. People wasting so much time deciding between the amaze and sgsii. Once we get root, expect the development to kick off and some goodies!
It's all waiting on the root, then it's on!

which SGS2 model did you order?
I just decided to read the reviews for the phone on t-mo.com (sort of the final step before I buy one after work today just to make sure there aren't any massive issues people have been reporting that I've missed) and I have to say, and I apologize allgamer because this is sort of off-topic, they were ****ing hilarious.
One guy claimed this phone should not be advertised as a non-LTE phone because it is a LTE device (huh? HSPA+ is definitely the same as LTE...waaaaait...). Another claimed that because there was no wifi calling, you couldn't surf the web on wifi! OH EM GEE GAIZ U CNT SUFR TEH WEBZ! Wait no...My Nexus S can't do Wifi calling and I can (and do) use it on WiFi all the time. Same with my Epic 4G. Same with my Evo 4G. Same with my MT3G. Same with my wife's Evo Shift 4G. Same with my Wife's Nexus S. Wow, I guess samsung must have really screwed the pooch or something to make it so that wifi calling was linked to all wifi use. Yikes! They better fix that soon! (That was sarcasm, FYI).
On a serious note though, I've done the reading, compared to the Amaze and watched the Galaxy Nexus launch and I'm not convinced any of them are or will be better than this phone on t-mo. The only real huge selling points of the GN (compared to the SGS2) are the HD screen and ICS; we'll get ICS and .15in diagonally larger isn't really that much so oh well. As for the Amaze? Its really only got better resolution which I couldn't find an issue with in store and I have pretty discerning eyes. Yes, I could see the difference but I couldn't see it making an impact on my daily life.
In summation, and as a non-owner of the SGS2 I'd have to tell the OP that yes, you did in fact make the right choice!

I am getting the Galaxy Nexus just because it has no buttons. To tell the truth our phone is bigger because the virtual buttons take of space on the screen. Other than that the galaxy nexus has no real selling factor besides icecream sandwich.
I just realized one thing I don't know about the S2...does it come with a mSD and if so what size is it?

The big security flaw is using your phone on ANY cell phone service. They track who you call, how long your calls are, who you txt, what the txt is, what cell towers you're connected to, when you pay your bill, with what credit card or check, also your name, address, oh and they know your phone number!

I plan to use a lot of time exploring the phone on stock for about 10 days and then root.
Won't be rooting, see no need for it.

i rooted mine on the first day, mostly becouse i want a recovery backup on the stock rom from day 1 with clockwork recovery.
I guess there is some consumer appeal, but really, why buy a Nexus if you have no interest in an unlocked phone? My decision to buy a Nexus was far less about firmware updates than it was about my right to own the hardware that I paid for.
To be honest, I didn't read the thread (shame on me), but these topics puzzle me. To each his own.
Google Wallet has some security risks in general for any device. Recently read the following from droidforums..... http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...s-news+(DroidForums.net+News+::+Android+News)

I'll root when CM9 hits beta or if a good stable nightly.
Yes, but so far only to be able to restore app data (ie Angry Birds) from my old phone. I'm totally cool with the built-in ICS disable/freeze feature for the apps I don't want, I think that's an extremely fair compromise over rooting and deleting the apk/so files.
Not too concerned about Wallet yet, we'll see how that pans out if it's something we'll need to root for or just something we can head to the Market and install without any issue. I would like to try it out and have zero confidence that the competing ISIS thing won't completely suck in comparison, so if root is needed, root it is!

If you want a private conversation phones are not the way to go. Back in the day we had to hard tap your line for LE with warrant. Now with CALEA and digital switches they can monitor traffic anywhere anytime w/o warrant.
Sometimes we put lines on speaker all day to monitor for noise. If your neighbor had wet line issue or cross talk we might monitor your line for noise. I worked in a 900 number telephone switch in California we have to check lines for "traffic" or people talking before working on them. It was awkward. Now I can monitor phone calls from my computer. Of coarse I don't unless it is for work I don't want to end up in Guantanamo.
Wow how off topic WTF happened?

Need Answers ASAP! Dell Streak To Galaxy S II?

Hi!
I am going to switch to sprint from AT&T because I lost my job. I am going to get onto my mother-in- law’s plan because my wife is already on it. They have a family plan so I was just going to jump onto their plan to save money.
The only problem is that I have a Dell Streak and am so in love with it. I have the awesome stock unlocked factory ROM on it and can tether with an unlimited data plan. It’s a great phone but does seem a little out dated by being a little slow. Also I am tired of paying 85.00 a month for unlimited mobile to mobile, unlimited data, and unlimited testing. I know it’s a decent deal but money is tight at the moment.
The only solution so far is to go to sprint because that is what my wife and mother-in-law are have. The only close phone that sprint has that is close to what I have is the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G. The phone would be 19.95 a month and 10.00 a month for the data for that phone. I am wondering if there is a huge ROM support group for the Galaxy S II if I wanted to say put Ice Cream Sandwich on it stock style with unlock tethering with the sprint network. I know some networks make it real hard to change your ROM’s phone.
The other choice would be just to go with the Samsung Replenish because it seems like a decent phone and has Android capabilities but I just think I would find myself depressed going from an extreme mod phone like the Dell Streak to the Samsung Replenish.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Let me know the ins and outs of moding a Galaxy S II on the Sprint network. And what phone you think would be best. You think the extra 10.00 is worth the Galaxy S II? I just think I will be going for the Galaxy S II because that is what I am used to.
Side note is that I am 8 months from my contract expiring with AT&T and have unlimited data smartphone plan. I was thinking about using an extra lame old phone that I have laying around the house and taking of my data plan by calling in and say I do not have it any more I just have a basic phone and ask them to remove my data plan. This was when I port my number over to Sprint they will only charge me the basic termination fee than the more expensive one because I had a smartphone. Do you think this would work?
Best,
needspractice
Let me be the first to chime in. The Epic Is certainly the way to go! One of the best Groups on XDA (imho) and one of the best performing phones on the market. Every phone has its downside, ours seems to be 4G speeds, but the upswing far exceeds the down. I Love this Phone!
There are plenty of Roms for the E4GT. Development is pretty good right now. My wife used to have a replenish, because she wanted to be "green". That thing was a POS, there was no support for it, it has a freaking slow processor, no memory, graphics suck, etc. At least go with a dual core.....
Also, you will have to pay the ten dollar data charge for both the Epic Touch and the Replenish. Get the E4GT.

Basically all I want to do on the Sprint network is tether with a mobile hotspot up to 8 devices for free. Install non market apps like the Amazon App Store. And Root my phone. Is this all pretty easy and possible with the D710 that you get from the Sprint Store?
And if I went there today? Would I get the newest version with the newest parts like the silver headphone jack and what not?
Also do you think its a big deal to give up my unlimited data plan on AT&T? Or if you pay the extra 10 dollars with Sprint is that basically unlimited data?
I would change out the roms but that is not entirely to important to me but I would like the option to.
Yes all that is possible and more

Don't buy the phone from Sprint try Sam's Club, Radio Shack or Compusa which all sell the phone for less than Sprint does at this moment... Hey even try Best Buy. If you want to save yourself some money shop around.... Oh yea Amazon too
Don't run off and put ics immediately. Yes its desired and popular with many people. Only problem is, many people believe it isn't reliable enough to trust it as a daily driver. A few people, including myself, feel calkulin's 2.8.1 is the most recent with the best stability and least problems. You can always go stock rooted, but your battery and responsiveness won't be as good as 2.8.1. Grab all the modems and try any of them ek02 or newer. Find which one works good for your phone and area.
Seriously? Do better research.. besides the network, the e4gt is hands down one of he best phone out right now.. completely.. not to mention all you need is a pc, sfhubs one click rooted ics leaks and youll have stock rooted ics.. then you can try one the awesome custome roms or even get an aosp rom with way more customization.. then you can show everyone how your e4gt touch is better than there phones and forget about your streak all together in no time..

On ics new builds have broken it before but someone always gets it running again. I have been using ICS as a daily driver since March with no more than cosmetic or nonsensical issues usually caused by me.

I was wondering if anyone knew of the latest or best phone that has the greatest ROM rooting following at the moment greater than the Galaxy Nexus?
I have a Galaxy Nexus right now and its great but I am just bored with it. I would like to upgrade. The only problem is that I use [GNEX TOOLKIT V11.1.0] Drivers, Backup, Unlock, Root, Recovery, Flash + MORE [SPRINT] which is the best tool around.
I was wondering if there are tools like this or better for other newer phones that I may upgrade to or should I just stay with my Nexus for while?

Easiest phone to root is the OPPO Find 5 that has an unlocked bootloader and to root it all you do is install an app. Best phone at the moment is the Galaxy Note 3.

Does the Galaxy Note 3 have an easy toolkit application to root it like the Galaxy Nexus?

No idea the phone has just barely been released. It's not hard to root nowadays just follow instructions. Not like the "gold card" rooting procedure with a ton of adb codes anymore.

3G on Deactivated Epic

Long story short, I recently switched to an iPhone. My Epic served me well, but I was tired of carrying an iPod in one pocket, and my phone in the other. The only thing I really miss right now is the ability to use the hotspot without having to get it enabled from Sprint, and paying for it. I'm without the ability to jailbreak right now (lousy iOS 6), so there's nothing that can be done about a free hotspot on the iPhone just yet.
My question is, can data be reenabled on the Epic, even though it's been deactivated? I have an old phone that would still go online after it had been deactivated, so long as I updated the data username/password (##combination of some kind) every time it changed.
So, is there a way to get the Epic back connected to 3G, so that I can use it as a mobile hotspot?
1) Why the hell would you downgrade to an iPhone?
2) Why would you need an iPod and an Epic when you could just add music, movies, etc to your SD card?
3) Call Sprint and ask about a data only plan and fork over the 50-60 a month instead of trying to steal bandwidth.

As the reply above states, you would need to contact Sprint and sign up for a data only plan.

Simple. The Epic doesn't have USB audio out.
As far as stealing bandwidth, then why don't you tell every ROM developer on this forum to stop including the HotSpot hack.

and im pretty sure if xda got a seize and desist from sprint they will take down links for their application being modified.
Simple. No plan=no 3g. There is no way to fool Sprint's network into releasing you an ip. If that were the case people would be hacking Clearwire's 4G internet floating around.

Why would you need the hotspot? Iphones have 3g and wifi, and if you have the new one, LTE. I see no point in this endeavor. Why don't you just pay your carrier to use the built in hotspot? You're going to be paying for it either way.

Its not stealing data, we pay for the bandwith... not going to go into this further cuz it always ends badly, but using the hotspot that devs have modded isn't "stealing" bandwith... a feature, maybe, bandwith, no...

/ME pulling up Google
Thanks for the answers kenny and flastnoles, i thought of PMing either of you to ask, but figured I'd just post and see what I got. The only reason I even asked was because I only use the hotspot once every other month, if that, so paying $30 a month just doesn't make sense. This entire topic will be a moot point once the jailbreak for iOS6 comes out, because there's a tweak that'll do for the iPhone what the HotSpot hack does for Android.
FYI, using the powers of Google, I've also found out you can activate the hotspot for about $1 a day. Just call and ask to turn on hotspot with an expiration date.

Technically I guess you wouldn't be "hacking" clearwire because afaik you still would need a clearwire modem to make it work...

thats pretty much the same as cloning esns. it IS COMPLETELY legal IF you have the two devices in your possession and not trying to sell one of them without the other, you also have to have the esn(blah blah blah) attached to the back of the device you cloned it to.
and as for clear 4g, im currently trying to use it as a doner to use on boosts network. in turn can be used for our epics
