Community ROM ideas - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wanted to get a thread going for everyone to share their personal thoughts/proposals/ideas for new ROMs. This is for anyone and everyone on here who has ideas for Android Development for the og evo. I'm interested to see what the community can come up with, and hopefully it will spark some new ideas for those who dev for us.
So I ask you, Evo 4g community, what would you like to see in the near future for custom ROM development?

4.0.3. With 4g and buggless camcorder. Also customizeable keyboard. As in put keys where I want them. Thanks!

Any dev willing to help develop a MikRom for the E4GT?

When I had my OG Evo, I mostly used aamikam's MikRoms. He always had the fastest and smoothest roms. I'm sure a lot of people here came from the Evo also and can attest. He is not sure if he will get the E4GT but said he is willing to help if anyone is willing to assist him.
Unfortunately, I am not a dev. Anyone out there interested in assisting Mik?
Mik Roms are bad ass, I ran some on my evo 4g before I went to aosp. I hope someone picks this up, a good learning opp for a up and coming dev!

Wish I knew how to. Do plan on making a rom myself at some point in future though.

DianXin-OS on Samsung epic touch possible?

So while I just read about this new ROM, and while I also read that it's literally only three weeks old I'm sure not that many people have heard or seen it.It looks pretty cool and while most of the devs have there hands full between ICS , CM9, Miui I don't think anyone could ask for it in the near future.Just figured other people would be interested. Also curious if it would be possible to port it?

Who Are the Current Developers Working on This Phone?

I'm curious to see which are working in our phone. Sometimes I just feel that no one is developing for our phone.
We got new roms this week. Shut up

Its a valid question. And just how new are the elements of these roms?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Really? Experience them for yourself to find out. There are definitely some new roms.

Not trying to be negative but new roms does not equal development. 90% of what we have is MODDED roms. Very few actual roms that are DEVELOPED. We have lots of modders, one or two developers.

At last someone understands me!
I dont think you people understand. Theres a developer who starts from scratch on a stock pure rom. As a base. Not someones deodexed or debloated rom. A stock non root. Then they work on rooting the rom. And then deodexed the rom. Then they debloat (optional). Then add their apks. And then add theming. Honestly the devs here use other peoples base rom and just theme it nd tweak it a lil bit. To be honest the only developer that stands out is romanbb and whitehawx. They made juggernaut 4.1 as said in the description from scratch. They didnt kang anything or use someone elses work. They are true devs. The others are themers and tweakers and such. Now i love their work.. Honestly i love them too they make my phone that much better. Im just trying to clarify what it means to be a dev

Do u see the 13 toggles? They had to code everything for it to work on our device. You know how long that takes?! Like i said they used a SAMSUNG PURE NON ROOT ROM! Others use other devs deodexed roms or debloated roms. They do everything themselves it
clemsonboyz said:
So, whitehawx and romann didn't simply tweak stock Samsung twiz? How could those two build from scratch? All there has been are Samsung stock twiz so far. They cry abt Kang, but don't they Kang themselves?

And no they do not kang. For the love of god. You shouldve done some reaserch before you try to prove me wrong. They make their own stuff. They are recognized developers. Not senoir members.

Well i want to be a dev, just dont know how besides android kitchen

Why does every thread turn into an argument? And if you think you have the right to complain about a devs ROM, then put out something of your own that's better. If you can't, well then anyone who can even kang a ROM is lightyears ahead of you so don't complain.

What difference does it make whether they're kang'ed or not?
The developers we have working on this phone have stepped up and released some very decent kernels and roms and they've worked hard to do so. I don't expect a developer to build CM7 or 9 from scratch, but I've used DARKSIDE's CM7 Hybrid for a while and it's incredible. Other developers (TricH, faux123, Team Kang) have all released some great stuff as well.
We've had a slow start getting this phone off the ground and I think it's due to the attitude some people have that we're owed something by simply owning this phone and having the ability to flash roms. Let's show the developers we have a little gratitude and patience and development for this phone will continue to take off as it has over the past few weeks.
If yall want to view it that way, everyone is using samsung's ROM as a base ROM and modifying it. If any of you have tried to develop than you would know that even minor variations from a "stock" takes time and effort. All developers start somewhere and the hope is for them to contribute to the community and learn and get better. My solution to people who are complaining about real vs "fake" developing is this:
I came from the i9100 forums and they had two sections for Android development-original and the normal Android development. The original Android development are for developers who build everything from scratch from source. The regular development is for everything else.
Like I said we don't want to discourage development because you never know which dev will grow up to be the next great!
Everyone kanged samsung's ROM hahaha...

[off-topic] best forum for app dev scrutiny

I am currently making an app to become more familiar with Android. Anyone know the best forum to get ideas, help, and constructive criticism?
Sent from my Epic™ 4G Touch
Not to sound facetious but I believe you're on it. XDA is as in depth as it gets imo. Any info I've ever thought about or needed has been here and most often given direct guidance by recognized devs. Good idea though, we can never have too many informative apps out there!

What you mean informative
I was thinking of making a e4gt ROM app with a compilation of all the current apps, modems, themes, etc. but I dont have the resources to make a online directory so apps can be updated independently from the app
Sent from my Epic™ 4G Touch
That would be a pretty handy app. Do you plan on having the latedt roms/themes/kernels downloadable through the app, or is this something more ambitious? Whatever your plan is if its E4GT dev related this is the place to be!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Yes, it will stay updated with the lastest roms, themes, mods, modems.
It will have a marketesque feel to it
I woul suggest getting something inplace that can be installed and tested and then get a thread going on the dev section. I have no knowledge of android os or any kind of app dev for that matter so i cant give you anything other than that.

Looking forward to stripping off this touchwiz! I miss my CM7 from my N1 and am excited to use CM9.
The link for root and cwm isn't working for me. Anyone else have that issue or have the link? I can't seem to find the post anywhere. Thanks
EDIT: It was some weird permissions thing for me. I logged out and the link worked. Not sure what's going on still but the link worked.

News Updates
In the Sprint SGS3 Development forum, noobnl now has both CWM recovery for all SGS3 LTE variants and a simple .zip that roots the stock Samsung ROM in one step.
bbelos and mkasick are now working on kexec for the SGS3 LTE kernel.
Team Epic's new account is posting like this because it needs to reach 10 posts. This XDA requirement is quite annoying as it is difficult to write 10 quality posts when you are not allowed to include helpful links.
Can't wait to get my SGS3
I'm having to wait for the devices to arrive to get my SGS3... the team is working hard on the job already, and fresh from having ported CM9 to the Epic 4G... the kexec works really well for booting alternate kernels and ROMs, and we're lucky to be able to have it, in the development stages, for CM9 on this device. It means more contributions can be done, in the most efficient way possible.
I've seen these devs in action, and I think we're lucky to have this team working on the SGS3...
Can't wait, the extra ram over the epic should give you guys alot more room to work

Really glad to see you guys here, you did some great work on the Epic 4g.
Can't wait to finally get my device and get back to helping you guys.

Familiar Names
I wasn't sure I'd be upgrading to the S III for a while because the Epic dev community is so strong. It's really nice to see familiar names showing up here.
