CyanogenMod's Team Epic Blog: Sprint SGS3 CM9 Development Plan
This thread exists to communicate Team Epic's development progress on tools and written guides, and what will eventually become CyanogenMod for Sprint SGS3.
Latest Headlines Updated 7/3/2012
7/3/2012: Root from Recovery .zip version 5 has been released. v5 cleans all previous root methods that conflict with the cleanest root method provided in this tool. If you already have working root with version 4, you do not need to upgrade.
Root from Recovery, one-step .zip to flash from CWM to root the stock ROM. Simple!
DRockstar wrote a flashable .zip that unroots the stock Samsung ROM.
noobnl made a CWM recovery image for all SGS3 LTE variants including Sprint SGS3.
CM9 for SGS3 LTE boots on GSM variants, audio is entirely busted, will take a while to fix in CM9 framework.
Read Team Epic's implementation plan.

Looking forward to stripping off this touchwiz! I miss my CM7 from my N1 and am excited to use CM9.
The link for root and cwm isn't working for me. Anyone else have that issue or have the link? I can't seem to find the post anywhere. Thanks
EDIT: It was some weird permissions thing for me. I logged out and the link worked. Not sure what's going on still but the link worked.

News Updates
In the Sprint SGS3 Development forum, noobnl now has both CWM recovery for all SGS3 LTE variants and a simple .zip that roots the stock Samsung ROM in one step.
bbelos and mkasick are now working on kexec for the SGS3 LTE kernel.
Team Epic's new account is posting like this because it needs to reach 10 posts. This XDA requirement is quite annoying as it is difficult to write 10 quality posts when you are not allowed to include helpful links.
Can't wait to get my SGS3
I'm having to wait for the devices to arrive to get my SGS3... the team is working hard on the job already, and fresh from having ported CM9 to the Epic 4G... the kexec works really well for booting alternate kernels and ROMs, and we're lucky to be able to have it, in the development stages, for CM9 on this device. It means more contributions can be done, in the most efficient way possible.
I've seen these devs in action, and I think we're lucky to have this team working on the SGS3...
Can't wait, the extra ram over the epic should give you guys alot more room to work
News Update
DRockstar wrote a flashable .zip that unroots the stock Samsung ROM.
I'm jelous! Was hoping you were going to move to the Evo 4G LTE!
Really glad to see you guys here, you did some great work on the Epic 4g.
Can't wait to finally get my device and get back to helping you guys.

Familiar Names
I wasn't sure I'd be upgrading to the S III for a while because the Epic dev community is so strong. It's really nice to see familiar names showing up here.
Hi warren

Good to see you here

Wednesday 06/27: the 32GB device is finally now showing signs of arrival.......yet, lots of 16GB'rs already reaping the benefit of noobnl + Team EPIC's handiwork..........awesome!

Who has the skinny on CWM 3.0.2.4? I dl an update to Rom Manager and was urprised to be actually using it to dl a recovery. It appears that the dl of recoveries only works when the 3G radio is on andthe 4G radio is off.
We at ACS has been working with koush do get an official recovery for the epic. Team member & founder rjmjr69 donated his spare epic for him to work with. I know other members of the epic community has helped out. Personally I'm not sure on how far he has made it

I already tried it and the reason I was asking is because it has some eccentricies you might say. I was able to navigate by playing around, but getting out of the advanced menu was a little tricky.
I guess what I really want to know is whether it will format to ext4 standards seeing as how it is a version 3 cwm? I was going to odin back to DI18 to see if it would do it, but thought about asking might be a good idea.
Yeah I tried it to for the hell of it and all the button were different. It was tricky to navigate thru the options.

I'd love to give a shout out to all of the guys who have worked super hard (more than I have been!) on getting a super functional daily-driver ROM out there for everyone in the GNex community.
There was a lot of behind-the-scenes communication, and I was only privy to a little bit, but to say dreamsforgotten has gone above and beyond is an understatement. I really wish I could have been closer to some of the other fixes going on, even if only to learn more about what they were doing, but I really think it was a blessing to see a community working together again on XDA/ACS.
If I could drink right now (stupid radiotherapy!) I'd raise a toast to all of the people involved. It means a lot to see something so positive come from the Android community again. Thank you all for the immense amount of effort we've all seen over the last week.

im trying to port cm10/jelly bean but have had no luck. i got it to boot but it gets to the launcher and reboots im using the kernel from cm9 alpha6 any ideas/input on kernel that would be better to use or what i may be doing wrong ive never ported anything to the epic touch but i assume its not much different than motorola photon any help would be great thanks in advance
You might want to pm agat63 or chris41g as they have been all over kernel development around here lately and would probably be best equipped to give you an answer... or get at mijjahz or bigtoysrock as team noc has been working on a jb port as well

I hope this doesn't read wrong, if it does I apologize. The only option I know of right now is mijjahs as his team is working on jb port right now. But if there kernel isn't compatible with cm10 you have no options. Porting a ROM, especially one of a different OS version requires extensive development because you are taking a ROM from another phone and trying to get it working on our phone. Here is the part that I hope doesn't come across wrong. If you are capable of doing that I would expect that you know exactly what you need to get a working kernel done. Which begs the question, are you actually developing a cm10 port for our phones or are you just trying to install a cm10 build from somewhere else? Again please don't take that wrong. I am just trying to figure out what you are doing because if you are just trying to install one don't. You will likely permanently brick your phone. But if you are actually developing a cm10 build for us great! Start with mijjahs.

I just got a sgs2.. and well the aosp game is kinda ridiculous on this device... props to the devs who's provided the options they were able to on this device but where are the rest of the roms at?
expect to see some more aosp comin from me here in the next month or so
EDIT
JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS I MEANT NO DISRESPECT AT ALL.. I EVEN CREDITED THE DEVS WGO BROUGHT SOME GREAT ROMS TO THIS DEVICE.. I just want people to know I'm here to bring more to the table.. I'm guessing there is a major hurdle to overcome to bring aosp to this device since I'm not seeing a lot of it.. but I'm up for the task.. and I'll simply let my work speak for itself..
If you have an issue bring it to my attention but please dont harass me for stating that I wanna contribute to this device.. I don't want a bad rep at all and I hope you all will enjoy the work I produce
Only complaint on AOSP roms is that data speeds don't seem to be up to par compared to stock Touchwiz. Hopefully once Samsung releases the latest ICS source things get better since FI03 fixed the slow 4g speeds that haunted previous ICS builds.

Everyones different though, just for me I tried them all (ran AOSP roms for the last 3-4 months), 3g seems a lot better on Twizz especially at work where it's a very low signal area. And 4g is no contest between the two.
So since my post mysteriously vanished... I'll sum it up for those that missed it.

I dont release half of my roms because I focus more on one but show me a sprint device with more recent aosp than us besides the flagships that are basically included in aosp to begin with. think sprint will let you exchange your device for one with a community you can respect for a few months til you're ready. Maybe including some aosp options will provide somewhat a better understanding of ur purpose for this thread.

I deleted your post due to it being very rude and flaming another member. It was reported and it was removed. I will continue to do this if I see fit. On another note if you are producing or friends are producing roms then I'd suggest you let you works speak for themselves and not sit here and continue to act the way I have seen in this thread.
With that I will be locking this thread and ask that another like it not be made again

A flashable kernel is the goal.:fingers-crossed:
So bry are you just going to rebuild the kernel for flashable or you're going to mod it on the way there?
(i think its the first one but you devs are deities)
I also wonder on which rom we could try this on.. im thinking IC Tazz instead of Viper since its more stripped down and its Rosie is more lightweight.

First I'm going to get the base flashable. Then I am going to try and get it to have oc and governors.
I am definitely not a dev, this will be my first attempt at hacking.

Hopefully you'll have it soon, my flashahol is coming back
FML...ubuntu decided to not boot anymore and I needed to uninstall...
Stand by while I install it again...
Update: yeah....clicked the wrong button late last night while re-installing and reformatted my hard-drive...lost everything. Good thing I keep an external backup fairly frequently. Reinstalling windows at the moment and trying to see if a factory reset will bring my laptop back to a healthy state - then will install ubuntu on that and try again. I am guessing a few days out I should have something.
Started the build....but getting a couple of errors. I think my toolchain is messed up. Tackle it again tomorrow.
