Does any one have a way to set the hostname at boot? For example, if I do "getprop net.hostname" in terminal. It will say android-xxxxxxxxx.
I also tried putting "setprop net.hostname Galaxy-Nexus" in a init.d script, but it errors.

Is there an app to allow me to Remap keys on the hardware keyboard?
I want to play zenonia with my game gripper.

You should be able to in the app but I'm not sure cuz I don't have it but other emulators have that option.
You can't in zenonia unfortunately.

You can remap keys by editing the file /system/usr/keylayout/s3c-keypad.kl with a standard text editor. Just make a backup of the file, edit, then reboot.
I mapped my emoticon key to a tab key so I could auto-complete commands while in a Bash shell.

Woah! I've been wanting a Tab key for a hella long time.

I changed SMILY to TAB and I tried with Connectbot and it didnt auto-complete. It just put a literal tab space. Any thoughts? You use a different terminal app?

It's pretty simple. Change key 42 in the file to look like this:
Key 42 TAB WAKE_DROPPED
Now you have a tab key. You can use the sed command if your version of busybox has it:
sed '/s/SMILY/TAB/g' /system/usr/keylayout/s3c-keypad.kl -i

Switch to an ash shell instead:
su -c ash
It's the shell that does auto-complete. If that doesn't work download terminal emulator from the market. It's free and works well.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I just tried su -c ash with Connectbot and it doesn't work properly so just use terminal emulator which IMHO is better for terminal commands and it has more options.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Will do. Thanks Terminal Emulator auto-complete worked like a charm.

Anyone know how to save settings through Voltage control to the init.d script? I have an error message coming when I choose save to boot settings and check on init.d script. It says that it cannot write to mkdir said it's read only.

Does anybody have knowledge on this?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Yeah you have to mount system as rewritable. Then when you are done mount it as read only.
This is a VERY BASIC thing to know when working custom roms on Android. I suggest google as a good starting point. Not sure if you know, but you can use google to only search this website if you prefer that interface over XDA's built in search (I know I do).
Here is a link to get you started.

Can I just use root explorer to do it?

I have better terminal emulator running as root, do you have an address or link to find the right command lines, or do you know them by any chance?

Does any one have any knowledge to share about our t989 and unlocking its init.d script?

Given answer and link...
Even another person suggested root explorer. Try estrongs file explorer its free.

To me it seems that an Android development site should have more direct answers. Knowledge should not be a consequence.

Root explorer, within the directory there is a button on the top right that by default says "R/O", tap it and it will change to "R/W", then you can do your thing
Ok, I just want to Know how to make programs, like voltage controls and system tuner pro save everything to the init.d script not the post startup process. Is not much i'm asking for just a guide.

Hey guys,
When trying to run some scripts namely v6 supercharger I get the ''Sh applet not found '' error. I have heard this due to busybodies replacing something. Is there any easy way to fix issue otherwise I cannot run any scripts under Superuser.
Cheers

I just flashed CWM Recovery 6.0.2.5 onto my galaxy nexus. However, I really would like to delete some backups because the space is becoming much too scarce (10MB left!).
I tried to find a "clockworkmod" folder with the backups in my phone's storage space but nothing seems to be there. I have tried for a few weeks to do this and still cannot find any such folder with the backups. I have even tried showing hidden files in the windows explorer but to no avail.
Someone - please, please help! I couldn't do anything in the past few days with such low storage!
You need to use a root explorer and go to /data/media/

ADB is a remarkable tool to learn. You could have had this done by now if you knew how to use some simple ADB commands.
Do you have any specific commands to suggest?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
adb pull /data/media/clockworkmod /location/on/local/machine/where/i/want/my/crap/saved/to
adb shell
rm /data/media/clockworkmod/backups/nameofbackup
Thank you for that! I managed to quickly learn adb
The correct command is ...for future refernce a "rf -rt" to delte not rm

rm - Rf should work just fine

You have two options in how to remove this.
Option 1:
Set up ADB.
Connect your phone to the computer.
Reboot to recovery.
Type this:
Code:
adb shell mount /system
adb shell rm /system/etc/CDROM.ISO
adb shell umount /system
Option 2:
Get Root Explorer or a similar app which allows modifying system files.
Navigate to /system/etc.
Delete CDROM.ISO.
Option 2 doesn't always work for some people, but it did for me. That's how I've always handled it on my HTC phones.
