Read only init.d script - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Anyone know how to save settings through Voltage control to the init.d script? I have an error message coming when I choose save to boot settings and check on init.d script. It says that it cannot write to mkdir said it's read only.

Does anybody have knowledge on this?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Yeah you have to mount system as rewritable. Then when you are done mount it as read only.
This is a VERY BASIC thing to know when working custom roms on Android. I suggest google as a good starting point. Not sure if you know, but you can use google to only search this website if you prefer that interface over XDA's built in search (I know I do).
Here is a link to get you started.

Can I just use root explorer to do it?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

I have better terminal emulator running as root, do you have an address or link to find the right command lines, or do you know them by any chance?

Does any one have any knowledge to share about our t989 and unlocking its init.d script?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Given answer and link...
Even another person suggested root explorer. Try estrongs file explorer its free.

To me it seems that an Android development site should have more direct answers. Knowledge should not be a consequence.

Root explorer, within the directory there is a button on the top right that by default says "R/O", tap it and it will change to "R/W", then you can do your thing

Ok, I just want to Know how to make programs, like voltage controls and system tuner pro save everything to the init.d script not the post startup process. Is not much i'm asking for just a guide.

Sprint 3g slow?

Is anyone else feeling like 3g is super slow? I just moved to l.a and my 3g hangs and is slower than usual.... I can't even play youtube videos like before. Now I have to let it load for a couple minutes :\
Just asking if anyone else is experiencing lag in the l.a area or anywhere in general.... and is there a fix?

3G turbocharger by Zepplinrox is a miracle worker used to get .60mbs download now pushing almost 2 and half mbs full bars I'll link you to it in a minute... make sure you find the 3G Turbocharger RC 3.txt and have script manager from the market... and I'll give you instructions unless you want to read the thread about it.

If I am using a custom rom like CleanGB, does that already have the 3G charger built in?
I'm using cleanGB :\
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Nope.... some roms though may incorporate another linux tweak but most don't okay instructions
1. Open script manager and find the rc3.txt
2. A screen will pop up and make sure that the su icon is green or checked this means your running as root. Hit run
3. The command line will go through its script and at the end it will give you 6 options to choose from to boost speed.
4. There is not best option you need to play with them. So prior to installation you should run a speedtest.net to see what your current stats are.
5. Select whichever option I use epieremental 1, and reboot.
6. Run a test and see if its better
7. Test all of them and see which has the best result for you.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thank you for linking us to this. The forum page seems terribly confusing - do I simply need to
1. install script manager and copy the script
2. install the script
3. choose speed option
Anything else?
Edit: Also am I downloading the entire V6 script here or am I looking for just the 3G? Please link me directly to the script I need to implement these tweaks?
Thanks!
I'm trying to download it and it keeps saying unsuccessful

Reboot- phone powers off fully and then boots up.
Hot reboot- phone remains on and reloads configuration files. (Ie build.prop init.d init.rc etc)
someone else may be able to give a more detailed description

A hot reboot means the shell restarts, but the file system remains active.

Hot reboots are typically used when you install a custom status bar icon, mods, and other things pertaining to the shell.

Confusion.
Alright, so I can use hot reboot when i modified some system files while the phone was on, like build.prop or anything like that and reload those files to apply the mods without actually shutting the device down? Sounds cool! Who invented this idea? That guy deserves a thanks!

To everyone that wants to create an app

An idea to everyone talking about creating an app or help with an app someone should make something that let's you edit an updater script etc. Straight from your device this thread may be useless if their is an app that does it please let us know if not it'd be super helpful to the folks that don't have computers or laptops or if it isn't possible or this thread is still useless than close it down and delete it.

AW: To everyone that wants to create an app
You can edit the updater-script with any filemanager if you open it as a .txt file, edit it and then just save it without the .txt ending.

On my device it work perfect ... Which filemanager do u use? maybe try ES File manager, that's what i use
Edit: Do you try to change the script inside a zip file or do u open it direct?
Used es...and i clicked on it and it said open then gave me options and I opened as text
Edit: clicked on the zip file that is then navigated to updater script

Then click save and it said saving but it didn't save

u should try to extract the updater-script from the zip file using a zip manager like ArchiDroid or something similar, then make your changes in the extracted file, save it and then replace the file u changed with the original one in the zip using your zip manager

[Q] change app permissions manually

Hi all, I'm trying to find a way to change/disable permissions in individual apps, PHONE_CALLS, INTERNET_ACCESS etc, I know there's apps to do this but I want to find a way to do this manually.
Maybe there is a way using terminal emulator or root explorer, I've been searching everywhere but all suggestions are to download an app.
If someone could point me in the direction of a good tutorial there karmic score would mushroom to dizzying heights. Thanks

Use for this Root Explorer or Solid Explorer(this one is much better). I'm using Solid and when I'm pushing app to system this explorer automatically setting right permission.

Many thanks for this app, I did a bit of research & it seems like it works for certain things like ad blocking, licence breaking, so it's got a bad name in some parts of the community, but hey, my phone my rules.
I found what I was looking for "apktool", this is a pc program that let's you extract-open-edit-repack-replace any app you want.

Vibrate? [Solved]

I updated from slim 6 to 8 and lost vibrate as an option in my phone com pletely. using hardware keys it goes from ring to silent straight and I cant find a setting to do with vibration in the whole phone. WHere did it go?
Solution: flash new kernel and/or big mem patch.

Use a root file explorer and go to /system/lib/modules to see if vibrator.ko is in that folder. If it is there, make more room in /system and reboot

Even after a reboot? If it's not working after that, all I can think of is fix permissions in recovery or try a different kernel.
