Agreed. If it were any other phone, it might have been an option, but definitely not for a gaming phone that needs all the power it can get.

That's what I was thinking. Trying to get rid of as much stuff that runs in the background taking up processing power unnecessarily.
I did have one installed but removed it today, just wondered if it was a good option or not. Cheers

Nope, you dont really need it ; the amount of "virus'" you can get for android are limited and if you fear you have one you can easily download one, scan your device and then remove it after.
Guys are you living in caves? There is a massive problem with malicious software on android. And with the rise of high powered tablets the problem is getting bigger. Agreed atm the majority of malware only exists in the chinese app markets. But it's better to be safe than sure

I use AVG antivirus. I doubt I will ever get a virus, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Only if you go in the market and download really shady apps. Just be careful when downloading apps and always read the reviews.

I also wonder this too. Besides getting malware from the app market, can you get a virus from using the browser or from email like on a PC?

In theory, yes. In reality, no. I've yet to come across a virus via email or on the net for linux. To us the user base may seem large to us but it's really not. Though with Androids growth the story may be different in the near future.
at this point, a virus would still be more ''lucrative'' or ''productive'' on a PC. that's not to say that with the increase in cell usage we wont see them some day. just be careful of the sketchy market apps that capture your personal info. they normally come in the form of a task killer/battery saver. in my experience, they've always been tagged with ''droid, boost, turbo, battery, drain, saver.'' i work in a sprint tech center, so i see em all the time. as a cell phone guy, they stick out IMMEDIATELY. and of course im sure you already know that your phone came out of the box with a terrible virus. The most likely place to get infected apps is from non-market sites. Google recently found and removed about 10 or so infected apps, and a week after, appbrain still had several of them available for download.

Just a heads up... when running the powersave governor, you're forcing your CPU tonrun at the minimum. So in fact your CPU doesn't run above 384mhz. I am sure that its pretty laggy. Also the device itself will force cpu1 offline when not needed.

Based on what I have learned from reading and personal experiences, I would say that there is no "one-size-fit-all" for the best way to save battery. My wife and I have the same devices (T989), and I have both of theme tweaked different; different roms, kernels, etc.
Even though these devices are "identical", the set up I have on my device saves me lots of batter; I can go anywhere between 18 to 48 hours depending on usage and other factors. Same set up on my wife's phone wasn't as effective. However, the way I have her phone teaked, works best for her but not for me.
I would say that it really all depends on how you use your phone, settings, tweaks, widgets, sync, etc.
Please everyone enough with negativity! In my opinion using profiles for ocing and ucing in addition to juice defender is the way to go
I use OC/UV Beater on BM 5.1 ROM.

I understand! Phones even less expressive than One V like Xperia Mini also have a great acceleration and smooth speed. They are quick responsive and not laggy at all. This is because of HTC. The HTC Sense 4.0. The HTC Sense UI is itself taking a lot of RAM.
Want proof?
Go to Settings-Apps-Running on HTC One V and to Settings-Applications-Manage Applications-Running on a Sony Ericsson Xperia phone.
HTC One V's 'Setting' process takes around 60-70MB of RAM and of ised a little bit more, it even goes over 100MB. Whereas you'll see that i other phones (in this case Sony) take only 15MB of RAM when Settings is open.
Karbonn A9, the phone with not a great brand, but you'll see most of the time 250+MB of RAM is free!
Actually I just install edcyanogen mod 9 and I aren't feeling the speed as the first time

I had PGM on my galaxy nexus.... after getting used to it, it really really hard to live without this feature (especially after a few failed hardware buttons on phones in the past). Alongside the on-screen buttons, my phone required no hardware button pressing.
This is the one feature I will go to the ends of the earth looking for, and unfortunately I have yet to find anything like this for the S4. The reason this is such an obscure feature is because it requires low level kernel+hardware development, and from what I have heard from ponery and other devs, getting the kernel and screen to listen for specific screen input /w a corresponding kernel module (while keeping battery drain at an acceptable level) requires very very specific hardware and boatloads of very extensive, tricky, and sensitive development.
I wish someone would make something like this for the S4 (if ponery did I would jump for joy), and I would pay good money for it too.
It would have been really awesome if samsung would have included this type of feature alongside airview (and made sure they were both really really polished.... like an open airview api out-of-the-box), instead of the dumpster full of gimmicky garbage they did include.
