Hello,
I wanted to get some flavour of ICS and decided to flash an ICS Rom.
First I got the new ICS Kernel from DoomLord as I like his kernels.
After flashing and wanting to go into recovery the screen simply stayed black.
So I took the stock ICS Kernel provided with the Rom, but it had the same effect.
After that I reflashed the Gingerbread Kernel I had before, but here also: black screen.
The only thing left to do is reflash the Stockrom, so I started up flashtool.exe and did the normal steps.
Unfortunately I got the following error message:
FlashTool said:

Click to collapse
ERR_Severity="Major" don't sound good
But maybe someone can help me pls.
EDIT: Posted in wrong forum, pls move to development
are you getting any messages in fastboot when you flash a kernel? And I presume you didn't backup...

I can flash the kernels without any hassle.
I always do Titatnium Backups and might still have an old nandroid on the sd Card.
The phone also vibrates to signify it is booting but after that I get no picture.
I'd re-download dooms kernel and try fastboot with the new file, if that's not succesful then the best idea is to spam the volume rocker as soon as you boot and see if you get the recovery screen up.
I've tried like 5 different kernels and all the same result, the screen doesnt even go on, not even the backlight, guess it's simply a brick now.
Have you tried to flash an ICS Rom again?
Else try first to use fastboot for erasing the flash partitions,
erase boot
erase system
erase userdata

Is there an .FTF ICS Rom available?
I couldn't even flash the rom the first time, after flashing the new kernel I couldn't even boot into recovery.
Screen is just black.
But I will try the three things later.
Thx.
No.

Are you unlocked and rooted?
Have you installed CWM?
If so, can you boot sucessfully to it?
Are you using the GN Toolkit?
Bit more info as to what you have done so far would be helpful...

All six img files were flashed successfully. Device rebooted and stuck on New Jellybean logo. To be sure what I did is right I did the same steps for ICS img files and it boots to ICS without any problem ,,,
before that I try to use recovery CWM but without luck.

What happens when you boot into CWM?
If you have a JB ROM image on your flash then you should be able to completely wipe the phone (system, data and dalvik (under advanced options)), install the new ROM then boot it up.
Having a phone that hangs during boot is usually symptomatic of not having wiped the phone properly when flashing a new ROM.

I did all kind of wipe !!!
Try this: Make sure you have the JRO03C boot and system images handy (i.e., in the same directory as your fastboot.exe file), reboot into fastboot mode and type the following command in a terminal:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash system.img
fastboot flash boot.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot reboot
EDIT: Note that it should take 5-10 mins to boot up.

Then I flags ics miui rom and work great then I flashed miui update and it was corrupted and get many problems till I fix it by going back to stock ICS. Now do you think this is the issue ???

Going back and forth should have nothing to do with it. But it really does sound like you're not wiping one of the needed things first which mixes your ICS and JB files.
I'd suggest that you download something like CM10 and AOKP build1, go to CWM and do ROM Wipe/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, and Wipe Dalvik. These are the 3 you need to do. Then install zip from SD - your new ROM. Then install gapps for JB. Boot up. If you use Titanium Backup, don't restore any system data.

I tried installing a custom rom today and I think I messed up really bad, because my phone does not get pass the boot screen and I cannot enter the recovery setting. I think I messed up after entering
fastboot flash boot boot.img
in the command prompt and restarting because I forgot to put the rom zip on my phone. Since then I could not get pass the boot screen and even tried running a backup using CWM, but it didn't help. I then managed to mount my phone and put the rom onto it and installed it, but again it didn't help.
Now my phone can only enter the bootloader, I select hboot and fastboot, but nothing else works. Everytime I select recovery or factory reset I get the htc boot screen and it gets stuck. Does anyone have any solutions?
Thanks
did u backup your phone rom???
if you did u can go to recovery and restore it
and never try to change rom again trust me in that
otherwise i can't help bcuz i did the same mistake
I did make a backup, but like I said I can't enter recovery anymore, so I can't load the backup.
Thanks for trying to help anyway though.

What HBOOT version do you have and what custom ROM are you trying to install?
edit: you didn't need to restart after changing boot.img cause in Recovery you can just go Advanced and then mount USB and copy the ROM or whatever files you want that way.

I have hboot 1.39.0000 and I was trying to install the latest cyanogenmod cm-10-20130106-NIGHTLY-endeavoru.
Yeah I realized this after I restarted and did it get the zip onto the phone. I think I installed it, but the phone is still stuck on the boot screen
UPDATE: Okay I've managed to install CWM recovery, so I think I'm making progress
You had to flash CWM again? Odd..
Anyway, if you happen to encounter the same problem with CM10 I suggest you try some other custom ROM.. Just make sure you "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and then "fastboot erase cache", and if for some reason you decide to format the sdcard or simply forget to add in the ROM zip, you can do it in Recovery when you mount the device as USB under Advanced options. Best of luck!

Yeah CWM didn't load up, but I got it working again. Well it seems I'm back to getting the rom to install and being stuck at the boot screen again, so maybe I just need to use a different rom. Thanks for the help though
Okay, I've tried installing a few roms, but unfortunately I'm still on the boot screen, I can sometimes even reach the cyanogenmod boot screen, but get stuck there. I've read that this might be kernel issue, does anyone have any ideas?

I think I really screwed up my phone, I was trying to get my Google play store working on my phone by adjusting the Dpi (read it somewhere on the internet), so I rebooted and it wouldn't load my rom/system anymore. But the problem now is, is that I can't acces my sd card with HBOOT or similar things, fastboot does see my device but if I try sending files to it the next error appears:
C:\Users\Elke\Desktop\r1-primo-superboot>fastboot flash system shpongle.zip
sending 'system' (131180 KB)... FAILED (command write failed (Unknown error))
Als this error keeps occuring:
C:\Users\Elke\Desktop\r1-primo-superboot>fastboot flash boot boot.img
< waiting for device >
sending 'boot' (2988 KB)... FAILED (status malformed (1 bytes))
Does anybody know what I should do to get my phone working again? Because I really need my phone (it contains all my appointments and homework and stuff)
PS: If you need more information on my phone just ask for it and I'll try my best to find it!
PPS: Thanks in advance!

heyy man, if you have a custom recovery already installed, use that to wipe your phone and install the new rom
then pull the boot.img out of the rom .zip you are trying to use, then you need to "fastboot flash boot d:/boot.img" (of course, to your boot.img location)
hope this helps

-In bootloader when I select my customrecovery (TWRP) it shows HTC with a loadboar in the right-upper corner, then that loadingbar disappears and it shows just HTC (with red lettering underneath : This build... etc) and gets stuck again.
Thanks for the help so far but my phone is still broken dammit :c
Since you've got fastboot working again, re flash your custom recovery first.
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Then boot into recovery.
Now you can go into >advance>mount>mount USB storage
( using TWPR )
Copy the custom Rom to your pc
Unmount USB storage move to >wipe cashe, dalvick cache, factory reset, system
Wipe everything.
Move to > install and flash Rom
Once install is finished click the wipe cashe/dalvick.
Go back to the home screen in TWRP click >reboot> bootloader
Now flash your kernel. fastboot flash boot boot.img
Once finished fastboot reboot
I think you might have had a bad recovery flash.

So I made a stupid mistake but know where. This is not my first time to flash roms and karnels, but don't know where did I go wrong...
So here goes the story:
I had Racing Bean for a while and then I decided to change so I wanted to try the new Kit Kat

First I went back to stock 0.587 (because I never did before) and then I forgot to install recoveryX.
After that I flashed the karnel (nAa karnel)
So now I can't go in to recovery to install the rom and wipe the system
I tried.
Volume Down
Volume Down + Home
Home + (Connecting the cable)
Volume Up + Connecting the cable
Maybe something more but can't remember
What should I do? Thanks in advance

Usually kernel is inside the Rom (zip file) when u download, u should go with that kernel for best compatibility.
copy the zip file to sdcard
extract the zip to get .img file, flash your device with that file.
enter the recovery and install the zip file u copied
wipe cache, data ...
install gapps if u want
wipe again
reboot

I rooted, unlocked bootloader, flashed firmware up to .79, installed turbo 3.1 and moved the racing speed rom to my sd file.
I can get into the turbo boot menu but when I try to use CWM to install the rom from sd it freezes on "Installing update."
It also freezes doing other things: It won't boot into TWRP (Hangs on the loading screen) and it won't mount system (it just freezes).
I suspect the kernel is corrupted. My question is, what do I do now? To make matters worse I don't have a recovery image in can restore using CWM (sorry, noob). Is there a way of using CWM to re-flash the kernel with turbo 3.1? Or can I use CWM to put the phone into fastboot mode so I can reflash with turbo 3.1?
I'm totally lost, I have sunk hours into trying to get this to work!
Did you erased system and data from fastboot after flashing kernel? You must do that every time when flashing kernels with different partitions
EDIT:
download attachment, unpack, put your phone in fastboot mode and double-click on "start.bat". When finished reboot to recovery

To be honest, I don't think I did. It has been incredibly difficult to follow this process because the instructions on the threads assume a lot of knowledge.
Assuming, I failed to erase system and data as you said, what should I do now?

Did you erased system and data from fastboot after flashing kernel? You must do that every time when flashing kernels with different partitions
EDIT:
download attachment, unpack, put your phone in fashtboot mode and double-click on "start.bat". When finished reboot to recovery
Click to collapse
Thank you for this. I just tried it but i have exactly the same problem. Can i just use flashboot to reflash the kernel?
