Why do I get Told I have insufficient space on my phone to update some apps when I have about 39mb free!?!
Big thanks to anyone who can help
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

It might be that you need a portion of that space to have available for the android market to store the download as its downloading, then to install it....
I think thats what I read a while ago.

39mb of free space is just not enough ; the apps have to download the apk and install them-which requires seperate space and so much more space than the apps original file size (what it says on the market) is needed ; try moving apps to sd and if you have root uninstalling SE's bloatware.

Thanks, but how do you guys have ANY space? I'm unrooted but still...
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

Then i suggest you root ; it helps alot. All the stock games that come with the phone take up around 50mb of space ; I've moved both adobe flash player and google maps to sd, deleted stuff i dont use i.e. default browser, timescape, all the SE facebook stuff, most of my apps are on my sd card and all of my games run smoothly (around half my apps are games) , another thing you might want to look into if you decide to root is the supercharger v6 which really speeds up the phone ( no idea how laggy your phone may or may not be with that much free space).

I could root. Something is stopping me though. Maybe I don't want to void my warranty or don't want to have to download and start all my games again. Any other negatives?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

1)You can unroot.
2)It does not wipe your data - Infact you gain the ability to backup all of your apps via titanium backup - atleast it doesn't on .42 and software version prior to it.

So if I root, I can keep all my apps?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

Yes, you have to restart your phone but thats about the most inconvenient thing about it

Also, my phone almost bricked I think... I updated ss launcher and powered off my phone, restarted it and it got stuck on Sony Ericsson logo. I took the battery out and it happened again but it's working now.. Should I be worried?

That happend me when i was rooting but i fixed it

I dont think so ; the phone in my experience is unbrickable ( i have a locked bootloader) - Root should not brick your phone - use the zerg rush exploit/method and I have no experience with ss launcher. If you ever have a similar situation to what happened to you remove your battery for around 30 seconds and then put it back in , try a few reboots. If that doesn't work , download Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) and keep on trying to update/repair the software using that no to be confused with Sony Ericsson Pc Companion.
EDIT- I've rooted numerous times (due to me theming, trying out different things on my phone and generally just wanting a fresh install) and I have never had a problem with it - make sure you follow all instructions - if done correctly you should not brick and your data will be kept...

Hmmm. Never knew that and I actually just lost everything when I rooted my old ZTE blade. Anyways, who do I void the warranty with? Sony or the retailer? And if I un root, does that actually reinforce the warranty or is that just using deception to do so?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

Rooting doesn't void the warrenty I think. Only bootloader unlocking.
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

Thanks. Are there any (pretty much dummies) guides on how to root this phone and how not to lose anything?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

Actually, if I just were to root and have no custom roms (like the stock), would I still need to do all the backup and stuff or would it actually be very straight forward?
Thanks in advance

Turn on unknown sources and USB debugging.
Download SuperOneClick by shortfuse. Run superoneclick.exe as admin and click the root button.
No need to backup this has very low risk if any at all.
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

That's it?!
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

i didn't want to root.
THEN I DID.
Haven't regretted since. Just haven't unlocked bootloader.

so if i just install superoneclick user, would i basically have a rooted phone? and i can use supercharger and the like?

One click root deleted files without rooting my phone?

So I ran one click root (done it before flawlessly), and it gave an error message saying it couldn't find "free hd demos". So i restated my phone and my computer and ran it again, and this time it said it couldn't find asphalt, and sure enough it was gone! I then ran a terminal emulator to see if my phone was rooted, but it wasn't. Now what do I do?

Yes the one-click removes a couple apks, including aspahlt. It doesn't matter to the one-click if it finds them or not. It doesn't hurt anything to remove them or for them to not even be there when it is run, it will still go through the root process.
Once it you are rooted, you should see a program called SuperUser in your drawer. If you think the one-click didn't work, try it again.

Yes but I heard that if you delete the stock apps off your phone it becomes unable to receive updates

I believe that clockwork stops the ota updates not removing apps... But thats something I read here... And digi will help you out.. I know he helped me a few times

It stops from getting "over the air's" not the one-click
Just try again. I had to run it like 5 times yesterday, although that was mosty user error
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Chances are you're rooting to go to a custom rom so updates aren't a good idea anyway. (You used to lose your root, and a whole new exploit needed finding, but I don't know of that's the case anymore)
Once an update hits custom roms will start having it worked into them within a couple days, sometimes in a couple hours, and they'll maintain root, and all that stuff.

OTA Update offfered, but already have it....

Thought i would check for update on phone, it offers me 4.0.2.A.0.42 but this is the version i already have, and now i have a update icon in my notifications and cant clear it, even after taking out battery the icon is still showing and no option to clear grrrr.
Any ideas guys???
Thanks
Jay
Use titanium backup to freeze the update app if you have root

Ok, the notification was still there so thought i would try the update via my PC, it failed on numerous occasions so i gave up.
The notification is still there though
Just force close the app. It's a temp solution that would need to be repeated each time you reboot your phone.

Why don't you freeze the update service in titanium backup, no pesky notification and you can defrost it when a new update comes out

Also its only on the paid version now. Unless you have 3.99 to get it you won't be able to freeze. I don't know why they took that feature away from us the stingy b**tards. I have the same problem but I just did it a different way. I made a backup using TB and then uninstalled it using TB. nd now is all good. Why take the freeze feature. Not everyone has 3.99 to spare now days. Especially when we have bills and shopping to pay. Grrrrrrr

[Q] help!

ok i uninstalled superuser and busybox and some how lost all permissions to install or update anything.im lost
I guess the obvious question is why did you do this? Can you try installing superuser from the market again to see if you can undo the damage? Any time you mess with the system files you risk messing something up...
Market will not let me install any program that works in the system it clai,s I have not enough space available even though I hv over 3 gig left.also I don't know why did not wat to be rooted again I guess lol

You must install gapps from the recovery. Gapps should suite your android version.

Troubles in Making user apps as system apps

Hi every one.
I am new here. So I'm writing with all the details I can think of.
I'm using HTC desire x jelly bean in India. I've temp rooted the device. Now I run with a twrp touch screen edition revovery. I run the stock version (with odex) Rom. The only changes I made is removal of some bloatware.
The main reason I've rooted my device is to save space by pushing non movable and frequently used apps to system/app .
Since I only have temp root, The way I'm making user apps as system app is as follows
1. creating a backup Apk file either by manually copying from data/app or by clean master.
2 uninstall the app.
3 after entering the twrp recovery, I move the Apk files to system/app ( I don't create any odex files for the moved app)
4 reboot after wiping dalvik & cache.
Its a working method. But my problem is that several apps both that I frequently uses and high size are cannot converted into system apps. After making such apps as system apps, when I try to open them it force closes, crashes, or misbehaving (eg. Shows No internet connectivity even if I'm connected to web). I tried odexing the user Apk. But it not seems to be the problem. I like to know
1 why is this happening.
2 can I identify such apps before moving it to the /system/app
3 how/can I solve this isue ( I don't own a pc).
4 I am writing a list of apps that I've already tried and failed to convert as system apps. If there is no general methods can you suggest methods for the following apps
Quick pick
Mx player
BS player
Chrome
Adobe reader
Google plus
Opera mini
Opera
Google Maps
RAR
Mozilla Firefox
Freecharge
Advance download manager
Google search
Dolphin browser Jetpack
Chess free
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention on my post that I run chmod_66 from recovery. I think that fixes the permission issues. Also I tried "fix permissions", but really don't know what it does.
Like I mentioned before I am a temp root user. Can't mess around with my ROM when the OS is up. The only option I have is the TWRP recovery.

I have temp root. The main thing I am sticking with it because I saw, when I set s-off the handset vibrates 7 times at start up, and there is no proper guide to set the s back on. I looked to permanent root my device because I want to merge the in built memory and app storage partition. But I'm not an expert in this area and need to play it safe. I didn't satisfied with any guide for turning security on again after s-off.
I can get my hands on to my friends pc on some holidays too. But I would prefer not using a pc if I can do the same with my handset.
My handset is
HTC desire x running jelly bean
With temp root and TWRP touch version for jb
Also run odexed stock Rom
Any one has s-off version of the same device as mine and can run any of the apps I listed in the question?

My device is an HTC handset
It has a unique feature that even after you unlock your bootloader and flash super user (which I did) it will be in still s-on mode. S stands for security I think. With s-on you can have root access, but can't alter your Rom while you are running your OS. That's why I'm using my custom recovery all the time. Doing an s-off comes with some bug that the device will vibrate 7 or 10 Times while I an booting. And removing the super user app won't do any good. You need to turn s back on for its to stop. And I don't have a clear picture about the "turning s back on" procedure.
And I think I can do almost everything with my temporary root. And moving Apk files to /system/app and giving it read write permission is very much possible with my recovery.
If you alter the Rom while running your OS with temp root, the device will restart and the changes that you made to the Rom will be disappear. So the instructions you are giving me is not going to work for me.

OK try system app installer which directly install the app to you system app and don't try to convert user app to system app because sometimes(some apps) its crashing so,I recommended you install app directly to your system

having full permanent root and moving your files while in your phones OS with superuser root permissions is the ***EASIEST*** way, what im telling you works on just about every android device, if not ALL of them, you are going around your ass for no reason, you haven't had any luck with the way you are trying, the way I told you WORKS without a doubt so what is your problem? its simple, full root, move what you want to move, unroot, then go back to your temp root setup and you'll be where you want to be,I'm done, you've been given advice on how to do it but you are a closed minded person that is looking for the answer that you WANT to hear instead of the answer that exists.

I can convert user apps to system apps without any help alright. You are just telling me to do what I've been doing. Its not an answer to my question. And incase you don't know what s-off and s-on is, you probably shouldn't understand what I am really asking. I don't want any help with converting user apps as system apps.
I assume that you have permanent root device. Please try to make the apps I have mentioned as system apps and write back if its working for you. Try mx player and terminal emulator first. And write back with your experience

I'm trying to tell you that your difficulty is coming from using temp root instead of full root, if you fully rooted your device then there would be no more s off or s on because that is a function of temp root, full root does NOT have that restriction, fully root your device and you will be able to do it, I realize you have the s-off and s-on and that the problem you are having is that you can't remember how to turn it of or on, if you were to become a full root user instead of a temp root user and got used to it then you'd see that it performs MUCH easier and isn't limited and you stop being a temp root user because if you can run then why wrap a rope around your ankles? Android is much easier and multi functional when it is a rooted device and is not limited in any way.
