Is that even possible?

Ok, the notification was still there so thought i would try the update via my PC, it failed on numerous occasions so i gave up.
The notification is still there though
Just force close the app. It's a temp solution that would need to be repeated each time you reboot your phone.

Why don't you freeze the update service in titanium backup, no pesky notification and you can defrost it when a new update comes out

Also its only on the paid version now. Unless you have 3.99 to get it you won't be able to freeze. I don't know why they took that feature away from us the stingy b**tards. I have the same problem but I just did it a different way. I made a backup using TB and then uninstalled it using TB. nd now is all good. Why take the freeze feature. Not everyone has 3.99 to spare now days. Especially when we have bills and shopping to pay. Grrrrrrr

Probably, as they're just gonna push the OTA like they normally do, but its not available yet... Pushing the code to AOSP and releasing the OTA are two different things.

Didn't help however. Maybe I'll just repeat the procedure a few times and report if anything happens...

So I tried this earlier this morning since there's all the talk of Jelly bean coming out, it didn't work and now I've got problems with the Play store, whenever I try to update an app or install a new one I get this error:

I've done some searching and cleared data / cache multiple times as suggested, but no luck. Does anyone have any idea's?
Thanks.

Strange, I did the same and now the error appears to me while updating or downloading apps... I think we just have to wait a bit an it's working again (hopefully).
After having restarted the device, I could successfully install a random app from the market.

Well that's strange, but I'm glad I'm not the only one
I also noticed when you tell an app to update on the Google Play website, it doesn't get sent through to the phone...
I feel the only fix for this may be to do a factory reset, or wait for the OTA which should fix it...

I did the same and got the same problem as you, then I tried adding a second account to play store (my wifes) and I could add apps using that one. So I then deleted all Google accounts, and re applied my account and its all back working again.
Still no Jelly Bean yet though, I am resisting the temptation to root at the moment and applying the update manually, trying to stay with a vanilla Google Nexus.

Though I might just root it

Yeah ultimately I deleted my google account from my phone and re-added it, I think that's what did the trick however I followed all the various techniques in this thread (http://forum. xda-developers. com/ showthread.php?t=1632890&page=4)
All good now, but still not Jelly Bean :-( I'm doing the same, I'd really like to keep it vanilla at the moment, it's painful though as I'm now waiting for Jelly Bean on the Galaxy Nexus and my Nexus 7 to be delivered!!!
this trick helps did the whole procedure repeatedly like 5 times or so, and Voila!! there it is 4.1 JB
Downloading now 144 mb

This worked for me! I did a little happy dance when it happened!
As you'll see, this is my first post gents, I honestly have no idea where to ask this question so I'll try in here and hopefully someone will know the answer or direct me to an appropriate thread...
Now that I've got JB I really want my Nexus to just have the basic JB settings, so like it was fresh out the box but with all my apps, pics, contacts texts etc already on it. I am unrooted but was running go launcher and some go widgets which I've deleted but I really want to go one step further but at the same time short of a factory reset as that will lose everything!
That make sense??
I was trying this procedure since yesterday and did repetitions of 5 to 10 back to back and no luck totaling up to 50 times approximately. Just ended up unlocking the boot-loader and flashing it using CWM couldn't wait lol. Best thing was that because the device is from the Play Store when unlocking the boot-loader and didn't erase anything.

so did i, other people have frozen apps without issue tho, maybe it was a mistake on my part, you can always hide the apps by installing a custom launcher such as Nova or Apex i believe both of these have a option to hide the apps from the application tray
HTC One X here had weird pixelating and freezing problems couple of weeks ago so we took it to the repair. They replaced almost everything, including the main board and we got it back just now. Works fine, but there's problems with Google Play. When trying to press update, it presses to the app. If trying to press update (just above the "remove" button) it presses remove instead and asks for the app removal. If trying to install new app and to press install, it doesn't do anything.
Is this because of the new android version they just rolled on to HTC One X or if they repaired it wrong, or replaced screen bits wrong or something? Really clueless here.
The phone is onrooted and on stock ROM, if that helps. Tried clearing data and the typical stuff, reboot, no luck. Before trying root and another ROM just asking if someone has similar problem, if not maybe we can take it back to the repair without unrooting work and such...

Hi, tried factory reset, didn't change a thing. Can't press update all, open or update buttons, it always chooses the space below it... for example in "My apps" view it selects the first app when trying to click "update all". In the app view, it selects "remove" when trying to click "update"... This issue seems to be only on Google Play, other apps work fine, even when tapping that same spot that is problematic in Google Play.
I don't know if I want to root yet, because if I'm going to send it to repair I have to do lots of work to unroot it (to remain warranty). But if it's the only option so be it. I wish the repair guys didn't mess something up last time. Other thing I'm guessing that the new stock ROM has some issues, but haven't seen reported them anywhere else...
What's the latest version of Google Play and where to get it? can I install new version of Google Play to unrooted system? Thanks in advance!

Make a backup first! Before you do anything made sure you can get back to this point. I think Google play is a part of the system partition so you can't uninstall without root. Bee careful, messing with that stuff can really make your life miserable if you can't troubleshoot!

I'm one of the dummies that half-asleep clicked on the OTA update and am now softbricked. In looking around the potential solution threads I saw that long pressing the notification should dismiss it. Just a warning, I haven't tried fixing my phone as of yet, so I'm not sure if this advice is right.

That sucks. Look for "I softbricked my T-Mobile G3" under the questions thread. I think there's 2 fixes in there if you haven't checked yet. Idk if they'll work for you but worth a try if haven't seen them yet.
I read an adb fix somewhere that supposedly came from the G2 forums that supposedly worked too.
Good luck!
I'm just going to wait to find the location to delete, don't want to try and ling click and some kind of earthquake or something happen and end up just single clicking it. Lol

Software Update
Update Center
App Updates
I had the same problem thats a solid fix and should be working on every occasion like that.
Long press on the notification to enter app info and from there turn off notifications
I just use "notification off" app > uncheck googleplayservices > to hide the annoying notification.
Hello, I have this weird thing after trying to update to V30c... I received OTA (~230mb), downloaded and pressed to install but nothing happens, it just reboots the phone without performing the upgrade. So what I did connected it to PC and updated via LG mobile tool don't know why but the size was (1.3GB) unfortunately after upgrading I still receive the notification which I don't need as I already upgraded via PC... Anyone knows how to solve this?
If you're rooted, you can use the 'disableService' app from playstore. Then System / Google Play Services / SystemUpdateService, uncheck it. Problem solved.

Only it doesn't solve the problem. Just froze it with TB, but the notice persists. D851 stock MM V30D rooted. Also have SystemUpdateService disabled via app disableService from playstore, which got rid of the OTA notices for OS versions, but won't disable this compatibility patch notification.
EDIT: Notification gone now, probably had to reboot for it to evaporate.
EDIT2: Came back a day or so later, so that method was a no-go for me. Didn't want to try the long press to see if it could be dismissed via option presented in response to that action
I have an ATT S3 with 4.1.2 currently. It is rooted and has CWM recovery but still running stock OS.
I keep getting notifications of an OS OTA update to be installed, but it always fails. Can I get that to install by simply deleting the superuser app and selecting update option? Does the custom recovery also interfere?
Maybe the best way to ask is...
what would be the process I should use to get the update to install and get back to rooted/CWM?
I am no longer a "power user" and could easily live with the 4.1.2 OS, but the frequent 'demands' from ATT to install the update are bothersome.
Ota updates will only work with no root and a custom recovery.
Since you are on 4.1.2, you could flash stock 4.1.1, sim unlock, and run ota updates to 4.4.2. It's no the fastest but I feel it is the safest route.

OTA is typically the safest way to update (as with any update, official or otherwise, you proceed at your own risk and no one here is responsible should anything negative happen to your phone and its software). If you do not want to take the time to do so, or feel the process is too tedious, you should be able to freeze the AT&T software update with an app like Titanium Backup. This should stop the nagging to install an OTA update. I have utilized this method before and it has worked quite well for me in the past.

I am kind of surprised that uninstalling the superuser app is not enough to allow the update.

Gosh, I have looked repeatedly through the (long) list of installed things in TitaniumBackup "Overview of app storage use..." list (the screen from which you freeze things...
and I simply cannot find the OTA update app. Indeed I did not see anything with the word 'update' in it.
Hoping someone can help me specifically identify the app that needs to be frozen in an S1 to stop the auto updates.
They are driving me crazy. Even though they fail, they often happen at night and leave the phone screen ON, on a screen waiting for an input, and the battery is hot. Happened once when not plugged in and drained to autoshutoff, so I woke to a dead battery.
