[Q] Help with "rooted" Incredible with SLCD screen - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody. I bought an Incredible with the SLCD screen. Droid Incredibles come with either amoled or slcd screen types. The newer Incredibles have slcd screens. Not knowing this Incredible had the slcd screen, I went ahead and rooted it with Kinsellea2's rooting tutorial vie a Mac here: [How To] Root 2.3.4/downgrade and Get S-off
Anyway, Clockwork Mod recovery does NOT work afterwards as this tutorial was meant for the amoled screen type Incredibles only. Now when I go into Clockwork mod recovery on my phone, I do see HBOOT but as for recovery, I'm seeing is a black screen with two white lines on both sides of the screen. No recovery, no backup, no restore, no nothing. To top it off, the phone does not read the internal or external micro SD memory cards anymore. It's saying both are unavailable with no space information.
Again, the phone is rooted with no S-OFF as I could not get Unrevoked 3.32 to work.
I need help to flash or restore a SLCD type screen Clockwork Mod onto this phone. Could someone give me advice how to accomplish this PLEASE ?

What android version, hboot, and baseband are you on at the moment? Could you also post a link to the thread you were folowing.
Your best bet probably is to just do an ruu and then start from scratch with rooting.
EDIT: Nevermind you said it wont see the sdcard. How are you trying to access the sdcard, with the phone booted? I would still try an ruu, its possible hboot will still be able to read from the sdcard.

I've used Unrevoked method 3.22 and then 3.32 along with Clockwork Mod 5.0.2.0 to root the phone. No go as Clockwork Mod 5.0.2 is only for AMOLED sctreen types.
I can't post outside links yet. But can someone post a link to the RUU method for this phone ?

Cwm 5.0.2.0 should be compatible with both slcd and amoled. Its only the earlier versions that were screen type specific. If im not mistaken if its an incompatible cwm you will not be able to see anything, even hboot or the os when booted. Sounds like your cwm img file may be corrupt, i would not use that one again.
Are you downgraded to 2.2 yet or are you still on 2.3.4?
You can get the ruu here http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.06.605.3/PB31IMG.zip, and here is how to flash it http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=79.

Unrevoked 3.32 was not able to downgrade me to 2.2 I'm still at 2.3.4 I can boot to HBoot but I can't get to recovery, backup, restore screen. My screen is black with two white lines on the sides.

If your on hboot 0.92 i would use this guide and try again. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306400
If you are on hboot 1.02 i would try with this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258

cmlusco, I'm on HBOOT 0.92.0000. The guide you linked to was the exact tutorial I followed which got me to this predicament. Again, when I got to HBOOT and I scroll down to recovery, all I'm seeing is a black screen with two white lines on the sides. No menu selection like a normal recovery screen.
I did used Unrevoked 3.22 initially then the tutorial said to use Unrevoked 3.32 afterwards, which I did. During Unrevoked 3.32's operation, it gave me some sort of error and the operation stopped. That's when I tried to go into HBOOT and realize the black screen with white sides. What's weird is that the phone will not mount the internal and external memory cards anymore. That's the reason I can't use ROM MANAGER as it needs the SD card to be mounted. I can mount the cards thru recovery in HBOOT but I can't even get to that screen

Have you tried to ruu yet? Sounds like your best option at this point.

Thanks a lot for the advice and suggestions. After trying three days to root this phone, I finally got it rooted. Issue #1, during the rooting process the phone somehow lost connection, lost ability to detect or read both the external and internal SD card memory. I was able to solve this problem with the this procedure:
SD Card Fix
Press & hold vol down and power on the phone
Select fastboot by pressing the power button
ADB commands (from the command line in Terminal)
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot reboot
Issue #2: I follow the tutorial exactly but somehow the phone never was able to turn s-OFF. I had to run Unrevoked 3.32 like five, six times before it finally was able to. During this whole rooting process, I've learned quite a bit.

[Q] Unrevoked 3.0 on stock 2.2 EVO - no image or wrong image at bootloader screen?

Hi I have tried searching the threads already but I couldn't find any that was related to my problem specifically.
I am trying to root my HTC EVO 4G 2.2 stock with the unrevoked method. I followed all the instructions from guides and unrevoked and the part I am stuck at is when I run Unrevoked and it reboots my EVO. When it tells me to use the volume button to select HBOOT USB and press power, I get an error message on my phone saying "no image or wrong image!"
Was I supposed to put the PC36IMG file and recovery image on my microsd card when I run unrevoked or is this unnecessary? I thought the unrevoked software was supposed to include it.
Also, am I supposed to root it without a microsd card or with it? Thanks.
I rooted mine with unrevoked 3.21. the newer version is at least v3.22. You are using version 3.0 to root your evo? If your having issues rooting ,my guess is that you are using an out of date unrevoked....
It depends on which h-boot your phone has...2.02 or 2.10 or an older version?
I'm using the newest version so it should be 3.22. I just dled the file from their site a few days ago. I tried using mac and pc and they both don't work.
So for mac, you're not supposed to have anything on your microsd like the PC36IMG file that i've seen on other rooting guides right?
How do I find out the version of the hboot on my phone? I am not sure.
ok, there are a few things that need to be sorted out here.
1: when it says no image/wrong image, that means it scanned the sdcard and found nothing. this is what you want to have happen for unrevoked to take hold.
2: unrevoked is way out of date. if your software is 3.29, 3.30, or 3.70, then your radio could be permanently corrupted and damaged because of this.
3: unrevoked is on version 3.22, and you say you are on version 3.0??? wow that is really, reeeealy out of date.
baisically, your radio is taking a bunch of bashing right now, and it is all your fault for not reading the threads and searching well enough. good luck sorting it all out. oh, and by the way, if you have hboots 2.02 or 2.10, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
I tried using Windows as well and I installed the drivers and I was able to get unrevoked to reboot my EVO. However, when it's done rebooting, it hasn't changed and unrevoked still says "waiting for root..." and I don't see the super user icon on my phone. What's going on?
Sorry no the 3.0 was a mistake/typo; it's 3.2, the newest one on their site.
So should I NOT use unrevoked and use some other method? I just used this because I read that it was supposed to be easy and simple. What other method would you recommend?

Issues with custom Splash Screen

I tried flashing the custom splash via fastboot at first, and the transfer went through. However, the splash screen is the same. I flashed it as evosplash1.rgb565. So then I continued to look at other ways, and found this. I used unrevoked to root. I used forever to root the first time, and I can't remember what I used for my 2nd evo. It appears I used unrevoked 3 (which doesn't enable s-off?) but I think I still had the unrevoked program laying around so it should have been forever.
I looked around a bit and found out the unrevoked users can do it using this method, which seems very simple:
Here is how i do it:
I create an unsigned zip to be flashed.
Im Fully rooted, NAND Unlocked, and S-Off
via unrEVOked 3.21
1) Download Unrevoked Forever's custom splash screen PC36IMG.zip
2) Open the zip and delete the splash1.img
3) Download the custom splash screen you like and rename it: splash1.img
4) put the file in PC36IMG.zip
5) put the Zip on the root of your SD Card.
6) Power Down your phone.
7) Boot your phone into HBOOT (hold down "volume down" and press the power button)
8) Your phone will automatically find the zip and ask if you want to apply it.
9) Press "Volume Up" for yes
10) It will ask to reboot. Press "Volume Up" for yes.
11) your phone reboots, and you see the new Splash Screen.
Downlaoded their custom splash PC36IMG and put the splash of my choice in there as splash1.img. When I boot into fastboot, it checks the PC36IMG file, but then returns to the previous screen (bootloader?) without doing anything. I am not messing up any of these easy steps.

I even tried putting unrevoked's defualt splash screen PC36IMG file on the root of my sdcard, without adding my own file into it. It still doesn't give me an option to apply update when I go into HBOOT, it just returns me to the bootloader after checking the PCIMG36 file for about a second.
Very frustrating! Any help would be appreciated, I have searched around for a couple hours now to no avail.
If it makes a difference, I have one of the older evo's.
-update:
When I load up the bootloader the top says:
SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.97.0000
the radio is 2.15.00.09.01
I know there is a file on my sdcard from something and its called S-OFF so I figured it was.
Since apparently I'm not S-OFF (I think?), how would I manage that? Do I rerun unrevoked forever?

You will not be able to flash anything until you get s-off (security clearence)
Looking at your hboot you dont have to use unrevoked but the old root method.
this one will work for you

hope this was helpful
I appreciate the help, but since I'm already rooted and running CM6, etc, this won't have any affect on it? Or on my current backups?
So you can get into recovery?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yeah, I have clockworkmod installed, etc. I have flashed quite a few ROMs, but currently using CM. I can get into fastboot and stuff, but it's just not letting me apply update on any PC36IMG file, it reads it, but nothing.

To be honest I am not even sure how you are flashing with out root access... may need to redo the steps you followed to get s-off status

I have root access, just not s-off, unless they are the same thing?
This is confusing as ****.
Ok so I just read in another thread that unrevoked forever will give me s-off.
Will I be fine to reroot/flash forever, even though I'm already rooted? Will it affect:
-Cyanogenmod?
-Persnal info/data/prog data?
-Clockworkmod recoveries? Or Clockworkmod in general?

[Q] Did I brick it? Help appreciated

I was rooting my Desire following the newbie guide found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
When doing the S-OFF with Alpharev, phone got stuck on step 3:
Flashing new bootblock: OK. Read Alpharez instructions and it would be safe to remove battery. Did so, then fastboot, recovery mode, back-up & here, it says it cannot find any files, even though I made a back-up when I rooted with unrevoked... Am I screwed?
Edit: it does say I'm on S-OFF now, but still can't get into stock ROM.
As you mentioned, you see that your are S-OFF, so you can go into alpharev HBOOT I guess?
That means, you might be able to go into recovery via HBOOT.
From there you might be able to flash a custom rom. (Backup stock rom just to be sure)
Appreciate the comment.
I can get into HBOOT and from there into clockworkmod recovery, but as I said, there appears do be no recovery file. You're saying I should do back-up in clockworkmod and proceed with flashing a custom ROM? I'd still need to partition my SD-card but I suppose this can be done with my card reader as well. I followed the guide completely so I'm clueless as to what went wrong.
Hmm, so if you made a backup in clockworkmod it should be in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup. There's no files there? Are you able to access other files on your sd as you were before?
Just got home. Popped the cd-card in adapter. There's no recovery file on it. Only a 'backup' map, but that might just be the standard android backup one...
Edit: I made a new nandroid back-up now, but I noticed I didn't get the typical alpharev - why so serious - screen. Is this something to worry about? Next step would be flashing new ROM.

Ok so you've got a working recovery and backup - good!
Now check you still have s-off, look in bootloader, top line. You should normally have the joker screen so maybe you have to rerun alpharev?
It does still say AlphaRev, same options as in the guide, but not the - why so serious - screen (HTC one instead). I could rerun Alpharev, but it might get stuck again I definetely need the S-OFF before flashing new ROM?
Odd. Well, you don't need s-off to flash a rom, but you do need it if you want to change your partition table (gives you more internal memory in /data), and it allows you write access to any part of your phone while booted (e.g. you can permanently delete any app by removing its .apk file from /system). You definitely see "bravo pvt1 s-off" or something similar at the fist line of bootloader?
I do. You can check the images I added It's all there, but when going into recovery, I get clockworkmod and not alpharev and as said, not the splashscreen.
I think I found out why as well. Phone got stuck at 3rd step in Alpharev (flashing new bootblock: ok). After this, you would normally get the following:
Flashing splash1: ok
Flashing CWM-Alpharev recovery: ok
Procedure completed succesfully!
So I take it I'm S-OFF but without these last 2 features. Question is now whether I can proceed or need to do it again.
Edit: tried a restore, but I still can't get into stock rom :/
Edit2: proceeded with flashing leedroid 2.2 and it seems to have worked

[Q] Unrevoked stuck at "Flashing recovery. Do not touch your phone!"

I was running unrevoked3 in order to full root my phone (I think it was rooted, but not nand unlocked before - I was running the Fresh Rom and want to switch to cyannogen)
After unrevoked went through two root processes, and stated "this is a triumph," the phone rebooted again and got stuck at the HTC EVO 4G white screen.
Unrevoked states ""Flashing recovery. Do not touch your phone!" So, uh, I don't want to touch my phone.
What do? Should I just pull the battery and try again? or am I going to brick the freaking thing?
It's been on the white screen for a half hour now.
Just so you know, all you had to do was flash unrevoked forever through recovery.
I think it's fine to unplug or pull the battery. Afterwards, you may need to flash recovery, but other than that you should be fine.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
Hmmm. Flashing the recovery should take next to el zilcho in time.
You stated that you possibly already had root user access on your evo, but you were not sure if you had unlocked nand. Then you tried to run unrevoked again to fully root.
I believe it's a bad idea to perform a root method which is designed to perform a full root operation as if your device was fully stock, on a partial root device.
As long as the process is only trying to flash a recovery you should be OK to pull the battery.
Here are my suggestions to continue:
- Find the AmonRa PC36IMG in his thread in the dev section. Place on root of SD card. Poweroff device - Reboot into bootloader and let the recovery flash.
- If this does not work, I would recommend running a 3.70 RUU (ONLY if you are on a 3.70 ROM) and retry the root process.
Hope everything works out.
If anyone else has something to add, please do!
The first time I rooted mine, the same thing happened. I was on the IRC Channel and a few guys were talking me through it, and one guy said just pull the battery nad reboot to Hboot and reflash recovery using Amon Ra (PC36IMG Version), which I did and it was no problem.
After going to unrevoked's IRC channel, and being directed to pull the battery and then follow these instructions (since i was already S-OFF): h.ttp://noobgui.de/wiki/index.php?title=What_to_do_if_you're_S-OFF_but_can't_get_root (sorry for the broken link I'm not at the point where I can post them).
Everything seems fixed. Pretty sure that's about the same thing as what you said. Thanks.
do you have S-off or the NEWEST 2.3.3 OS?
If you are S-on and on 2.3.3 why the hell are you trying to run UNREVOKED AGAIN, you cannot gain root throught that method because it doesn't work with the NEW HBOOT.
If you have S-off DOWNLOAD AMON RA NEWEST RECOVERY and put it on your SD CARD
Pull the battery from your phone put the battery back in, HOLD VOLUME DOWN and POWER on the PHONE you will be in the RECOVERY screen now let the PC36IMG.zip install and you will regain THE FULL RECOVERY and be able to flash any rom you desire, if you need ROOT all you have to do is INSTALL the SUPER USER & BUSY BOX from recovery to have a fully rooted 2.3.3
OR After installing Amon Ra's Recovery Image, just flash the Deoexed 2.3.3 over your current 2.3.3 you will be deoxed and full rooted and you wont have to reinstall any apps or change your current arrangement

[Q] Help With Bootlooped Droid Incrdible

So I was trying to root my Droid Incredible, following the instructions from here:
androidforums(dot)com/incredible-all-things-root/427344-how-root-2-3-4-downgrade-get-s-off.html (replace the dot with a period)
And after the instructions to use unrevoked 3.22 to install a custom recovery instead of the one bundled with unrevoked (I have a SLCD screen Incredible so I had to install a custom one) but unrevoked installed the bundled one for me, along with trying to root, and now I can't boot into recovery (older version of clockworkmod gets a black screen with white bars on the side) and I also can't boot into anything besides hboot.
I can't figure out how to reflash anything, and I really need help since I need this phone fixed as soon as possible. If anyone needs more information just let me know and i'll provide all the information needed.

I've seen this before, if you flash this PB31IMG.zip through hboot then it should reload 2.3.4, granted you wont be rooted but you will have a working phone.
http://www.mediafire.com/?1ovb6959r9qyg6w
Make sure it is named exactly "PB31IMG.zip" (without the quotes) and your SD is formatted to FAT32, I would imagine that since you had already gotten to the part with flashing unrevoked that you are familiar with this already but I just want to be sure.
I don't know how, but I stumbled upon the 2.3.4 RUU last night (this morning?) and reflashed it, and holy damn, it worked. All my things were deleted from the old OS, but it's alright.
Im now running ICS with an experimental build of Cyanogenmod 9. Thank you for trying to help, I appreciate it. :good:
