I'm trying to remove clockworkmod on my evo 4g. I rooted using unrevoked forever last year and now need to take my phone in to have another number switched to my phone. I used the s-on tool without any issues and was trying to remove the clockwork mod cause i wasn't too sure of what they would check when i have my number switched over. Do i need to worry about clockwork or am i just fine with the s-on being displayed when they switch over the number. Any helped is highly appreciated! Thanks
If ur running a custom rom then id recommend going back to stock so they don't know u were ever rooted. Turning s on was a way to relock ur boot loader but u still have super user and busy box installed. Also if ur running sense then they prob won't notice but if using cm7 or aosp then they will for sure know the difference. Also if on sense a lot of sprint stores don't care that u r rooted. I took my gfs evo which I had rooted into sprint store to fix charger port and I told them over phone that it was rooted...they said they didn't care and to bring it in rooted and they would look at it. Turns out she got a new phone and they just took the rooted phone and didn't care. Id say call and ask. If they say they don't work on rooted phones them ruu it and take it in. Just don't tell them who u r on phone lol
ALSO...
Thanks for the reply Papa Smurf! As far as any any custom roms on my phone...i have none. I have spb 3d as my home thingy that spins around but everything is pretty much stock except for that clockwork. When i rooted i never loaded any custom roms to change the way my phone looked as far as icons and etc. So id say im stock cause i can change from spb 3d back to sense for my home screen without any issues. Also your right i do still have super users and busy box installed in my phone. I kinda worried about this though due to the fact that sometimes ppl are noisey and look through your phone apps, maybe ill just block access to my apps period that way they wont be able to look at them...hmmm lol. I was also trying to find the infamous pc36img...do you know where i can find multiple versions of it for evos? I am curently using hboot 2.10.0001 radio 2.15.00.11.19 if this helps with clockworkmod recovery v3.0.0.5.
ps if sprint cancels out my line due to "too much data roaming/data usage" can i just sell my evo without any issues or will there be a block on that phone from being activated?
Thanks a lot!
I've had them change numbers over the phone. You don't even need to go in. They just have you get the numbers under the battery and do it over the phone. Took me 15 minutes.

Thanks! Is there a way to do it online? The reason im asking is cause they are supposed to end my cancel my line today and i wanted to switch everything before they do it cause i wanna switch my evo over to another account under a diff name and number but dont want them to put a hold on the evo that has been rooted. Cause in my head they may block that phone from ever being able to be activated cause of the data roaming issues that they dont like, idk smh. Thanks though. Sorry if im asking too many ?'s i'm just trying to get everything figured out asap. And since s-on is now showing what does that actually mean? cause im still able to use my root required programs

Ok So I bought a my EVO from craigslist it came rooted with wifi tether app. I live at my Parents who have internet and I've really never needed to use the wifi tether so it’s of no use to me. I've read a lot on this site about custom roms but I just paid $400 for this evo I really don't want to brick it. I just want to be like all the other boring evo owners out there who update there software and everything works like normal. I'm kind of geeky but i don't have that inner smart geek that lets me do all that computer command line crap and ****. So would I just go to the settings and go to private were you restore the form? Currently on my phone when I search for updates on 1.32.651.6 it says none are available and im hoping that the new update help the battery life..
I figured i would just install the update and lose the root but my phone won't even let me do that cause it says none are available..

If you really want to un-root download this and run it while your Evo is plugged in
Happy un-rooting!
should i leave the phone in USB debug mode?
i dont think it should matter, but if you want turn it off.
Yes leave it.
From Team HTC Evo.
My issue involves the phone not accepting incoming calls.
CLIFFS:
Roughly 1/3 calls are affected, ive tried various kernals, radios, and roms. What else can i try (short of getting a refurb)?
This has only been an issue for the last 2 or 3 weeks, for months before that i never experienced this at all.
DETAILS:
It is very sporadic but happens quite frequently.
Sometimes i will see an incoming call, hear the ringer, then when i click "Accept" it appears to be connected, but i hear dead silence. Then about 10 seconds later the call is ended. It may happen a few times in a row, and it also may not happen. I never have any issues dialing out though.
when im saying "hello? hello?" and hearing nothing ... if i hit the "End Call" button there is a split second i can hear the audio from the other party before the phone hangs up
I know the people calling me, and sometimes it is people who don't call regularly. They wouldn't play games like prank call me.
I have confirmed i am having this issue with at least these ROM's:
SkyRaider 3.2
SkyRaider 3.3
SkyRaider 3.3.1
SkyRaider 3.3.2
virtuous 2.7 + custom kernal
virtuous 2.7 + stock kernal
Have tried the following Kernals:
KK #5
Stock HTC Kernal .15
Stock HTC Kernal .17
Have tried the following radios:
2.07.00.07.16
2.15.00.07.28
2.15.00.09.01
2.05.00.06.11
Does anyone have any suggestions on what else i can try?? I am so in love with my phone, but this is hurting my business and must be resolved.
Has anyone even heard of an issue like this? I dont even know what to search for
Thank you so much if you can help.
This could be a hardware.issue if it persists across still these combinations. Just a thought. You might want to un root it then take it to verizon to ruin done diagnostics...

Is that something they do on the spot? Or do they have to take my phone away?
Also if it came down to having to have the phone replaced, are there any known ways of ensuring i receive a new unit?
Thank you.
Im really upset over this because i love my phone so much If it were a problem with BT or something else i may just ignore it, but to not be able to receive calls?? LOL
Try doing a RUU back to stock, and see if your problems are fixed after a factory reset.
Have you tried updating the PRL?

So dont do a factory reset now? Go back to stock 2.2 first, then factory reset?

Thank you. I did it, and went from 51920 to 52011
I wonder if this will have any affect
Just an update on this, since changing my PRL i have not yet had the issue happen again!!
I only received like 5 calls, but i usually always get it 1/3 typically
Ill update if anything changes, but thanks so much!!
The PRL did not work afterall.
What are my next steps? If i take my phone to VZW can they run some sort of test on the spot? or will they want to send it away?
Or should i dial 611 and make a stink until they send me a new phone?
I dont know what to do

Un root it first then take it back to stock. Lots of info out there about how to do that. Then take it back to verizon store. Be sure to s-on the phone...

Yep thats what its looking like
I downloaded the RUU and flashed it, but there was an error saying "Bad" and abandoned. Any idea where i can find a confirmed copy?
I then tried flashing the earliest backup i had from Recovery, it appears to be from just before i rooted.
Im going to see if i have the issue on this rom.
If i do, i will go S-On and they will see me in the store
what pisses me off most is i cant replicate it to do testing!!
Im sitting here literally calling myself over and over, to see if it connects lol
ok then, I had issues too with my network, and doing *228 was not good enough for some reason soooo do this.
Do a RUU by following the directions in this thread, and by using the file provided there.
http://www.incredibleforum.com/foru...-how-get-back-complete-stock-s-off-2-2-a.html
Then once you have gotten through the set up of your stock 2.2 incredible, Factory reset (pick the option that wipes the most data). When you turn back on your phone, it will ask you to activate it, like you just got a new phone. That has been fixing a lot of peoples weird problems lately.

So you unrooted, flashed 2.2, factory reset, then re-rooted?
Only way to get a new unit is to go in the store and freak out cuz you lost it and you need a phone NOW! They can call asurion for you and get what's called an emergency replacement or something like that. Just tell them you have buisness the next day and it's out of state. But the downside is you will get a Incredible with a SLCD screen and not your original AMOLED. But aleast it's new

Okay i fooled a lot and it hasnt happened yet (i have my toes crossed)
Here is what i did:
First, i flashed back to my very first backup right after root. So i went back to stock, but still had root.
Next i did a factory reset, wiped all data
Next i flashed SkyRaider3.3.2, newest radio, and manually reinstalled all apps and settings
so far its been 24hrs and i haven't had the issue!!
going on 4 days without an issue, thanks everyone for the help and advice
Was wanting to root a friend's new EVO while they're at work and using their old phone.
Yeah, the phone should still activate OTA
Just got rooted and it won't work trying it online..And manually hitting ##786 does nothing.
Should work. Did for mine, but you can always do a nandroid then unroot, activate, re root. The longer time spent will be on activating it.(if your familiar with rooting.)
Sent From My HTC Evo 4G Using Tapatalk On The Now Network From Sprint.
##786# will not do anything if it's a gingerbread rom. You will need to press #*#*786*#*# that is the programming for gingerbread. But even still it will only work on sme roms and only if you have the MSL code that Sprint has. Plus you need both your mdn and msid only sprint has that.
Guess I'll unroot in the morning. It's on CM7, guess it won't work on that. Faster to start over than figure out a ROM that will let me activate.
#*#*786*#*# didn't bring up a menu though..

Have personally rooted dozens of EVO's prior to activating , flashing custom ROMS on an un-activated phone is silly . And in related news, Common sense is getting harder and harder to come by.
if #*#*786*#*# just sits there and #*#*786*#*# shows in the dialer then it is not a recognized programming code. If you put #*#*786*#*# in and it disappears from the dialer then it recognizing the programming code but it won't work with the rom.
i was just thinking you're probably going to need.. at the very least.. be on a sense rom..
so i wasn't surprised if CM7 wasn't working.
I just activated on a rooted evo. it was pretty easy. i switched back to sprint and brought my evo back over to sprint
Yeah, you have to be on a Sense ROM, for sure....
Just jump on Sprint Lovers Rom for the time being. I know you can activate from there with no issues.
Ive had a couple aosp roms and activated no problem. It just did them OTA and was done in about 30 seconds.
Hey guys I just installed MikG after a full wipe. Ran Kings Wipe all .zip 1st to delete everything as I do between all flashes but I can't connect to 4G. When I turn on 4g it says connecting and then authenticating with sprint and then it disconnects and tries all over again and it will just stay in the loop till i turn the 4g off. Any ideas to make it work?
Thanks in advance
you probably lost your wimax keys. if you have a backup make sure you don't delete it.
I doubt I have a back up. Any ways to get them back w/o that. I've flashed many roms before and never had any problems. Maybe I was just lucky. Usually just back up my apps with Titanium.
Okay update. It says Scanning, then Connecting to Sprint, then Disconnected and then it starts that all over again. So yeah I probably lost my keys. Anyway to get them back w/o a back up.

I tried it and still I'm getting the same thing. It did say it was authenticating with Sprint 1 time but not again after that. I updated my PRL and Profile as well as it mentioned in one of the other posts in that thread.
Don't assume it's the keys -- post 5 in that thread linked above tells you how to check.
Unfortunately though, if it is the keys, you're basically screwed. If you care, take advantage of the open enrollment in TEP next month (if you don't already have it), and pay the $100 for a replacement. Generally if the keys are gone, they're gone for good. So I hope it turns out to be something else!

I actually had this problem before and it lasted about 3days to a week, and then it magically worked again. I'd assume your keys are fine. Give it a few days
Well (insert curss word here). Just ran the terminal command through the terminal emulator on my phone that was listed in post 5 of the linked thread and I'm missing the hidden keys line. Looks like it is the keys. Anyway if I unrooted my phone I could bring it back to Sprint and be like wtf or would they have a way to check? Also I have been paying for the stupid TEP program since the day I got my phone. I mean worst case i'll just go back to an AOSP rom and it won't matter but i would like the 4G option. So yeah, any ideas on unrooting and bringing it back to sprint and playing dumb? Or some magic way to bring my keys back.
Also do you think running the KingsMOD-FORMAT_ALL.ZIP could have deleted my keys. I remember it saying something about formatting the system.

idk,
but for your keys i've seen it said that there is a method to restore keys.
if i can find the thread here i'll post link
Unless someone's found a way recently, you can only restore your keys if you had a backup from beforehand. Without one, they're gone.
As for unrooting and trying to return it, you can always try playing dumb, but my understanding is that people don't just lose the keys if they aren't rooted. So the missing keys in and of themselves are going to tell them you were rooted.
BTW, AOSP roms like CM7 have 4G now too. Basically you just need to decide if it's worth $100 to you to have 4G working. Also consider resale value, if you care. Assuming you're honest and disclose it, your phone might not be worth as much without working 4G.
If you do replace it, be sure to back up the keys in the new one once it's rooted. Both Amon and clockwork have that option.

I thought I had lost my 4G when I first rooted my phone, but i recently unrooted and put it back on stock, 4g worked fine. rerooted and 4g works now, not sure how that fixed 4g but it did.
Thanks for all the info guys. I would unroot just to try it but im reading now that all these phones can't be rooted now because of some update. Is there a way to unroot and then gain root again with out any of the problems these new phones are giving? But also since my keys clearly are gone is that even worth trying?
really screwed up. tried unrooting back to gb2.33 from revolutionary. tried using jcases tutorial by installing froyo ruu but after that adb would not recognize device. i loaded newer ruu back on along with cwm and superuser. i even tried radio. at this point i can run the phone but cannot connect with verizon wireless. i have internet connection through wifi but no phone at all just a triangle where it should be. any idea how to get verizon back on? any help is much appreciated. newbjimmy.
All you have to do is put the gb ruu on your SD rename to PG32IMG.zip and flash through hboot you'll be back to where you need to be

This happened with my neighbor's inc2. We tried everything under the sun and couldn't fix it. VZW tech support spent an hour with him trying to fix it. They ended up sending a replacement. If you were following jcase's tutorial on rootzwiki and did the all the steps the good news is s-on is back so they shouldn't know that you rooted (I can't say for 100% but so far he hasn't been charged for the replacement).
I am assuming your lockscreen says preferred provider or something of that nature. If you factory reset it will ask you for a country code and then the lockscreen will say digital roaming (which vzw will most likely ask you to do, I will warn you that after that he lost the ability to receive/send calls and texts). If you*228 option 1 you will also notice that it doesn't say programming at the top and it will say it was successful on the recording but the phone will not reboot and manually rebooting does nothing as I don't think it actually programs the PRL. Anyways I just wanted to give you an idea of what you are in-store for.
If someone out there is much smarter than me (which I am positive of that) and has more knowledge of how PRL programming works, they might be able to fix your issue but most likely you will need to do a handset exchange with vzw.
problem is fixed
thank you all for the suggestions. it took several ruu tries before it actually worked and for the life of me i don't know what corrected the problem because i did the same fix several times without success. oh well all is ok. i'm rooted, cwm backedup, with several other roms on the back burner.
I wish I knew what did it because it caused me quite a bit of frustration. Out of curiosity which RUU were you using?
