Ever Use XP as an Alarm Clock? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ever used your XP to replace your alarm clock? Has it been a good substitute? I'm thinking of doing that... I'm wondering if it will work better than the broken one I have now and the cheap one I bought from Walmart...

I use it all the time, it's loud and obnoxious. Just the thing you'll need to wake up in the morning haha. It's easy to set too, and you can have lots of different alarms set, it's a pretty sweet built in clock/alarm.

Yes. Yes. It is very very good as an alarm.

I use alarm clock plus, it's free and more obnoxious than STOCK

I use the Xperia Play as my default alarm clock and I use the ' Xperia ' ringtone for the alarm. Sounds so nice in the morning

I have the dock and it makes the XP the best Alarm Clock ever.

when it wakes me up I never now which button is snoose and which is disable - I wish they were bigger in size and coloured red and green to make it more visible

Combined with the dock, it's my current alarm clock. I use the " rise up" melody, because it's nice enough, and it's been fine so far.

I've used it before as an alarm. It was good. It woke me up anyway.

Yeah, I guess this should all make sense since you can hook it up with a speaker...

Yup use it everyday, I have the XP dock sitting beside my bed, threw out my old alarm clock.

So what if the sound is off (from the power button) to not wake people up because of notification sounds... will it still beep or make noise to wake you up?

I place my phone right next to my head and I wake up to Edith Piaf, Inception baby!

I use the default alarm clock that's in stock, I don't like the standard ringtone, hence why it's easy to wake up every morning

The alarm clock will still go off as loud as possible even with sound off, no need to worry. I keep my phone on vibrate at all times and it has never failed to play the alarm sounds and wake me up.

Always! Stock alarm clock with the Piezo Alarm as the sound with volume all the way up... Very ear piercing! Even if I snooze the alarm for about 40 minutes or until my mum yells at me to actually get up.

please note i have had some issues with the alarm not going off even though i set a test alarm and i didnt use a task killer.

That exact same thing has happened to me maybe once or twice. It would just say that my alarm is set for the next day, like it was skipped or something.

I bought the XperiaPlay dock since it was only cheap for this very purpose.
Sadly, didn't realise I couldn't use it with any kind of case.
So I have been unable to use the dock.

Wow, this is some coincidence. I was just about to post and saw this topic.
Just got my dock. Only problem is, the phone doesn't go into the alarm clock mode as shown in the pictures. I guess it's because of some bloatware i removed. can someone please tell me what app is required for the dock-clock mode?
Also, like some people are using it, I would also be keeping it on a small side-table next to my bed, with both cables unplugged. Since the phone is plugged into the earphone jack on the dock, wouldn't that disable the phone speakers and therefore no alarm sound?

MyLock + Alarms : Am I being stupid?

I have installed Mylock and it works fine. I no longer have to mess about unlocking the screen after pressing the power button to wake up the phone.
BUT
As I am currently staying away from home, I set the alarm last night for 7:30 and went to sleep.
At 7:30 the alarm went off. Really loud and yes it did wake me up but here is my problem.
HOW DO I TURN THE ALARM OFF?
Normally you swipe down but this option is no longer there (because of Mylock) and search as I could (whilst the alarm kept sounding) there seems no other way to turn off the alarm.
In the end I had to power off the phone!
So am I being stupid here or does Mylock really disable the ONLY way of switching off the alarm?
Thanks
If you use HTC's clock application, the only way to turn it off is to use the lock screen - which you've disabled. You'll need to download and use a different clock application that uses Android's embedded clock instead of HTC's clock.
I used DeskClock to handle that when I was playing around with different lock screens. Acer Liquid clock also apparently works fine.
I use Aclock. Works great with myLock and looks pretty awesome!
Thanks
It clearly wasn't me being stupid.
I will give those other alarms a go
Cheers

[APP] Shush - automatically restore sounds

So I just overslept because my alarm didn't sound because my gingerbread phone was on silent mode and eh06 has a bug that keeps alarms from playing in silent mode. Then I remembered this app which comes on whenever you put your phone volume to silent and asks you how long. Its called Shush on the market. Handy workaround for the no alarm in silent bug by automatically restoring your ring for you.
Hope this helps someone not oversleeping like I just did!

Personally I'd consider no alarm in silent mode to be intentional. Silent is supposed to stay silent.
As for what you're trying to do, I'd recommend using Tasker. You can do pretty much anything you'd want to automate your phone for, with just one running process in the background. For this, you could just set a simple timer that resets your volume every night at 5am before the alarm goes off. Or you could replace the stock alarm entirely.

Well its not the behavior of the alarm in ec05 it is only in the leaks of gingerbread and even in the leaks if you eneable the smart alarm feature which plays relaxing sounds before the alarm those sounds play bit the alarm does not.

[Q] No alarm-sound after deep-sleep?

since a few weeks i have the problem, that when i set an alarm and go to bed, the alarm-notification will show up the next morning, but i dont hear any sound. the phone is in airplane- and vibrate-only-mode at night, but the setting that alarmsound should be played even while in silent/vibrate-only is ticked.
When i set the alarm to test it in the near future, it always works as it should (with the same settings (airplane+vibrateonly)).
I'm on cm7.1 final with lordmodue-v8.0 kernel and using the default clock-app with an mp3 put into the media-folder on my sd.
Did anyone experiance similar problems before? I cant remember any significant changes to my phone before this problem first occured.
I did the same thing as you once, the alarm indeed did not ring. Solution: Change the profile form Vibrate/Silent --> Normal. it worked for me
Thx for the respons, but didnt work for me
Additionaly i noticed, that when i charge or have charged absolutly no sound is produced...no alarm, no ring and not even a voicecall (the other person seems to her me, but i can not hear them). Damit
Have you seen an app called "volume control" from the market? There's an option to change alarm volume, it might have somehow been turned down?
The volume level itselfe is definitivly not changed, this shouldnt be the problem...
perhaps you are a deep sleeper like my sis? xD
Haha, i wish it would be that easy. I have a light sleep and have always wake to the alarms befor this problem.
i discovered, that when i change to silent and back to loud after charging sounds work as normal. I"m gona try this with tasker for the alarm, maybe it'll help too.
Still didnt work
switched to black ice 1.23....everything serms to work fine now

Alarms Not Working in a Morning!!

Does anyone use their Note 2 as an alarm clock? I have had mine 6 days now and apart from the first morning my alarms have all failed to go off.
I can set an alarm for 2 minutes in advance and that works perfectly but when on charge for the night my morning alarms never go off.
I seem to remember having the exact same issue on an S2 I briefly owned 18 months ago. This is a serious problem and can't believe Samsung can't create an alarm that works!!
Has anyone experienced this or have any info?
I use my alarm every morning, works perfectly. Are you leaving your device screen face down? That mutes the audio...

You're using the default alarm app right? Just to make sure, are you enabling the alarm for the days that you need it to ring? By default even if you set an alarm for a certain time, it won't go off on a day unless you actually enable it for the next day or whenever you want it to go off.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/soo9mg5qwh5jt0a/Screenshot_2012-11-09-01-03-57.png
Look at this picture for example. I've turned on the alarm for 6:20 AM, but it won't actually go off at 6:20 AM today unless I click on the alarm and enable it to repeat on Friday or whatever days I want it to go off. This behavior is quite annoying and has caused me to switch back to Alarm Clock Plus that I've been using for years. In that app, when you turn an alarm back on, it sets it for the next closest time it can go off. This means that if I enable my 6:20 alarm at 1:17 AM, it will go off aproximately 5 hours later, not 6 days, 5 hours, and 3 minutes from now lol.
Otherwise, I'm not sure why your alarms aren't going off. Did you lower or disable the alarm volume? Or disable alarms from going off in silent mode?

I believe laying it face down only mutes the audio if something is currently outputting sound at the time you lay it face down. Laying it face down any other time shouldn't mute the sound. For example, if you're playing music with the stock music player, take your device and lay it flat or even just face down (meaning it will mute if your device is face down while in the air) and it will mute. If you lift it up a little and press the play button, the music will continue to play. I usually lay my phone face down at night when I go to sleep and I've never had an alarm muted or not go off because the phone was face down.

No its not face down, to begin with it was just on charge on its back, last night I used a dock which stands the phone upright. No alarm either way. :crying:

I have checked and double checked my setting and all seem spot on to me. I'll post some screen shots in a sec. Volume on, it even says your alarm is set for 6 hours from now etc.. Not days or anything..
Here are my alarm screenshots see if i'm doing something wrong?. Please ignore the fact that the phone is on vibrate, thats just on since I started work this morning.
Any advice would be appreciated. I don't really want to have to start using 3rd party apps. Don't see why I should have too..

All my volumes were maxed out, I checked before going to sleep. Even so there was nothing on my screen this morning to say any alarms had even gone off even if the volume was off for some reason. One alarm doesn't have snooze switched on so that should go off until I turn it off shouldn't it?
I think the problem is the alarm doesn't repeat the ringtone. I have tried it before. Basically it plays the ringtone, then dies off regardless whether you dismiss or snooze the alarm. After that you can't find any trace of the alarm having sounded.
So I guessed you must have slept through the alarm. It happened to me too. So now I am using another alarm app.

Hhhmm, I suppose it is a possibility, surly the alarms shouldn't stop on their own without being turned off, that would be a major flaw. Only other thing is I was actually awake this morning around the time the final 05:45 alarm should of gone off but I saw or heard nothing.
When you look at the screenshots you realize that sound is disabled?

I did say ignore the fact that my phone is on vibrate. Incidentally I have tested it today on a random alarm and the alarm went off even though the phone was on vibrate. It just seems to not work if the phone hasn't been used in hours.
Purchase Alarm Clock Extreme. Well worth it and works 100% of the time. I have math to snooze and captcha to dismiss. Wakes me up every single time.
I don't really want to go down the route of installing 3rd party apps. What if they get closed down, does the alarm still go off?
I'd rather try and figure out whats going wrong and fix it.
My phone is always on vibration.. But i have never faced any problem with alarm and i am using my mobile as waking alarm since i bought it

Well i'd love to know why mine always thinks I need more sleep. Gonna have to factory reset at some point and see if that helps but I shouldn't really need to do a reset after 1 week of use.
Stock Alarm works perfectly, maybe u turned on the "block mode" or something, don't 3rd party apps w/ own alarm system
No Blocking mode on or anything like that.
It now seems fixed after a factory reset, the only thing I haven't put back on is my PIN lock. I have a feeling the PIN lock and dock mode were not playing well with each other.
Will try adding PIN at some point but just happy its working for now

Glad to know a reset resolved the issue, but this is definitely an annoying bug - how do we know the issue won't come back again? I ran into the same issue the last two days now where my alarms just didn't go off. Settings all check out, nothing changed, the alarms just stopped working.
For what it's worth, I also have a PIN lock, but I don't have a dock. It was plugged in, face up, full volume.
add me to this growing list as well. I was just testing the alarm setting it with voice and sure enough, my alarm didnt sound. Alarm screen came up, but no sound. The strange thing is if I go in and set an alarm manually, it will sound. Strange and frustrating.
Home screen too?

I have had the exact same problem. My alarms worked for the first couple of weeks, then nothing, if the phone was inactive for more than an hour or two.
I have a few alarms set through the day. The only time they work is if the phone has been recently active. At night I plug the phone in to charge and the alarms will not go off in the morning. The other thing that I noticed is that the home screen time is always behind when this happens. So far this is the only place I have found someone with the same issue.

I use Sleep as Android and it'll do exactly what you're looking for - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.urbandroid.sleep&hl=en
I've got mine set up to just buzz my watch first, then a failsafe that goes off on my watch and phone.
Ooooo looks brilliant!!! Do all the other features like sleep tracking etc drain the battery much then?

It used to drain your battery totally, but dev recently got it working excellent instead.
Now our sw3 is one of the most battery efficient watch
To run the app on, battery "drains" around 17% over night, which is great since it various sensors are being used.
Regarding vibration on the watch in general: I think it's as easy as, if an app generates vibration alerts on your phone, it'll generate these on the watch too.

I just got the SW3 yesterday. I'm trying to get my alarms to sync, found this an tried Sleep as Android. However, it seems no matter what settings I use, my watch only buzzes once very briefly for the alarm while it goes off as normal on my phone. As if just a notification that an alarm is going off. Is this just how it works? Any ideas?
I followed the "instruction" chapter on wearables to enable Smartwatch in the app and enabled the vibration (Smartwatch) from start option, but I can't find any other real set up options or instructions.

I made two alarms - One with the phone vibrating / making noise, and the watch vibrating, then one set ~5 min before that, set to silent, and disabled vibration (so the phone does nothing), and set the Vibrate (Smartwatch) to "From start" as well.
When the first alarm goes off, mine buzzes once briefly at the time of the alarm, and then once again maybe 30 seconds later, then it starts getting more frequent after that. When I just went to check what my settings were, I also noticed there's an option to start the watch vibration "before" the alarm - though I'm not sure how much before the alarm "before" is, since it doesn't seem to be configurable, but that may alleviate my use of two alarms.
Hope that helps!
Official Clock app from Google
now u can install on any android and the alarm appear on smartwatch , to dismiss or postpone
