I'm not sure if this is already known BUT I've noticed that if you have a custom recovery that you can press and hold both the volume up button and power button until the "Samsung Galaxy S II" screen comes on it puts you right into recovery.
I've tried it on several ROMs and at the lock screen, home screen, ANY screen and works every time.
Watch this video I uploaded.
Hit "thanks" if this has helped!
Well being that this is how we do get into recovery when the phone is off my guess would be doing it with the phone on just turns the phone off and reboots it.

Right. But without having to access the power menu or removing the battery.
Takes just 16 seconds instead this way.
This works on all builds. Not just ICS. IT also works going into download mode too

I would think hard reboots are not good, else the phone would shut down instantly the regular way as well

Don't worry about it bro. I don't understand why people are assholes. There is no reason for someone to make an ignorant comment. U are trying to help and its not like u posted this in the development section. Don't let them get to u man. Hope u feel better.

I was only pointing out that this feature can be done at ANY point and time.
I realize doing this when on a home screen works, and have realized it since we all learned it worked.
Just wanted to inform noobs AND veterans alike.

I'm curious about how many people knew it existed
I found out on accident about it
There is nothing on these forums that tells you about it and neither does HTC or Verizon
Its simple just press the trackpad, vol down and the power and you've just reset without pulling the batter

That is awesome, it's a crazy that no one's mentioned this before.
Sheesh! Thanks for the info, how many of us have just slapped ourselves in the forehead....
Reboot is actually one of the main reasons I flashed from stock to SkyRaider! That easy huh?
Thanks a bunch, superchilpil. Just learned this today - 2 years later!

Hi all
I knew it and had to use it some times but now I found myself as well 2 yrs later trying to do it in a proper way, not sure if there is an official way of doing it; I mean is there any order to press the buttons to do it?
well anyway it works no matter the order
Thank you!
so each time i made a selection instead of going to the screen, the phone actually turn black, and nothing else
for example, in the clockworkmod home if i select wipe data with the power button, instead of seeing the other screen which will show wiping data , my screen just goes black and nothing else happens
Why is that
You don't select with power, you select with the track button

Haha, I remember when I first rooted my phone I wanted to download a ROM and see what the big deal was. So I get into ROM Manager, select a rom, and start the process of flashing it. Halfway through flashing, I accidentally hit the power button. Lol, the screen went blank, but I was too afraid to touch it for fear of making it worse. Finally, when it didn't do anything for like 3 hours, I hit the power button again and it just resumed.
I felt SO stupid. Specially since it was around 3 in the morning, and I was tired.

Well i tried putting a theme on my phone after i put beastmod 3.0 (no beastmod did not brick my phone.. was working fine before i tried flashing my own theme) and now idk what to do.. when i turn my phone on.. it passes the whole "synergy kernal" animation but after that its a black screen with force close pop ups.. something about my twlauncher is failing.. it wont let me get passed that.. whats there to do?
A reflash of beast should fix it. Since the 3.0 just came out today I doubt any themes are ready for it.

Just get into recovery and flash beastmod over it...to get into recovery hold vol up n down keys and turn on ur phone while holding them, then let the power button go n keep holding volume keys and that would take you into recovery...

Glad your problem was quicked so fast, OP. This is in the wrong thread, but should be addressed if it's a ROM problem - should be in the BeastMod thread or in another forum.
Mod please delete.

This is not a development questions nor were you even close to bricked. Please in the future search before posting because if you had you would have seen that since your phone even partially booted you were completely safe. Also, do NOT post in the development section unless you are posting something you developed.

My friend asking for help here is not a problem but coming from the Evo like I did you know that there are ways out of just about anything. Like the poster above said is 100% correct. Instead of sitting here waiting for answers use Google, use the stickies remember what you did prior on your Evo. Now for my part of helping you out, its vol up + power will take you to recovery. Or here's a thought plug it in your pc and use adb.. How about the command adb reboot recovery..
Now to me if you read up on the phone research threads before you went in on it then these trouble shooting tips would be second nature. Sorry if I sound like a **** but too many of us are in here messing with phones and have no clue what to do if we screw up and especially when there are a million HELP ME THREADS....
Good luck and hope it works out for you...

This was my problem you need to hold them at the same time for waaaaay longer than needed on the evo.
Once i got in clockwork it was smooth sailing but there was no way for me to know these subtle differences

That was kinda my point. If you did a little research or better yet QbKing has a million videos you would of know this. Once again my bad but too many of us are just panicking and posting questions that are clearly answer in these threads or are really simple to figure out... Glad you figured it out though...
I was using cm-10.1-20121229-NIGHTLY-maguro, i've installed timur-usbhost-2012-12-23-jb42.zip using CWM and after system restart now my phone is death.
Pressing power button or volume buttons i got no response, my phone is completely death!
Can anyone help me?

Tough luck man. I really hope you get this issue sorted.
But so that people who might see this thread get the whole picture... you actually flashed a Nexus 7 Kernel on your Galaxy Nexus.
Timur's Nexus 7 kernel is helping a lot of people do things with their N7 that wouldn't be possible otherwise. It's an excelent piece of coding being developed down at Rootzwiki. I'm not leaving any links. If you'd like you can google it... you'll easily find his blog and the main thread.
Cheers :good:

You installed a kernel, made for Nexus 7 on stock JB 4.2.x, over your CM 10.1 install on a Gnex Phone.
But not just that. You have now also generated a high Google score with my name in it and "dead phone". Thank you very much!
You should have all technology banned from your fingers.

Ten days ago, on Jan. 29th, I asked XDA to delete this silly thread. So it will, eventually, drop out of the search engines. But it's still here.
If you think XDA should *not* be used for baseless, stupid defamation, then do me a little favor and click the report button on the OP. Just say abuse. It doesn't take much time. Thank you.
