I'm curious about how many people knew it existed
I found out on accident about it
There is nothing on these forums that tells you about it and neither does HTC or Verizon
Its simple just press the trackpad, vol down and the power and you've just reset without pulling the batter

That's awesome! Thanks for the info
That is awesome, it's a crazy that no one's mentioned this before.
Sheesh! Thanks for the info, how many of us have just slapped ourselves in the forehead....
Reboot is actually one of the main reasons I flashed from stock to SkyRaider! That easy huh?
Thanks a bunch, superchilpil. Just learned this today - 2 years later!

Hi all
I knew it and had to use it some times but now I found myself as well 2 yrs later trying to do it in a proper way, not sure if there is an official way of doing it; I mean is there any order to press the buttons to do it?
well anyway it works no matter the order
Thank you!

so each time i made a selection instead of going to the screen, the phone actually turn black, and nothing else
for example, in the clockworkmod home if i select wipe data with the power button, instead of seeing the other screen which will show wiping data , my screen just goes black and nothing else happens
Why is that
You don't select with power, you select with the track button

Haha, I remember when I first rooted my phone I wanted to download a ROM and see what the big deal was. So I get into ROM Manager, select a rom, and start the process of flashing it. Halfway through flashing, I accidentally hit the power button. Lol, the screen went blank, but I was too afraid to touch it for fear of making it worse. Finally, when it didn't do anything for like 3 hours, I hit the power button again and it just resumed.
I felt SO stupid. Specially since it was around 3 in the morning, and I was tired.

My friend asking for help here is not a problem but coming from the Evo like I did you know that there are ways out of just about anything. Like the poster above said is 100% correct. Instead of sitting here waiting for answers use Google, use the stickies remember what you did prior on your Evo. Now for my part of helping you out, its vol up + power will take you to recovery. Or here's a thought plug it in your pc and use adb.. How about the command adb reboot recovery..
Now to me if you read up on the phone research threads before you went in on it then these trouble shooting tips would be second nature. Sorry if I sound like a **** but too many of us are in here messing with phones and have no clue what to do if we screw up and especially when there are a million HELP ME THREADS....
Good luck and hope it works out for you...

This was my problem you need to hold them at the same time for waaaaay longer than needed on the evo.
Once i got in clockwork it was smooth sailing but there was no way for me to know these subtle differences

That was kinda my point. If you did a little research or better yet QbKing has a million videos you would of know this. Once again my bad but too many of us are just panicking and posting questions that are clearly answer in these threads or are really simple to figure out... Glad you figured it out though...
My son always does my computer/cell phone fixes, but he just got out of major surgery and will be mentally and physically out of it for a while and I need help. I have a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4G (Epic) , Gingerbread.EI22 2.3.5. --- Sprint recently forced an auto upgrade on it and unrooted my tethering program. I have looked on all sorts of websites and don't understand their instructions. You geniuses speak a different language than I do. Could someone provide, or point me to, simple step by step instructions to get back my Wireless Tether?
From one dad to another here you go, easy to follow videos by qbking77:

Hi everyone.... ok this is the process I recommend. Write down in order the files and steps needed and to be performed. Its actually simple. To start u off, u turn the phone off. give the phone about 30 seconds to completely power off. The with the keyboard open, u press and hold. The "1" button and press power button at the same time. This gets u into download mode. Then just proceed with the rest of the process.

I'm not sure if this is already known BUT I've noticed that if you have a custom recovery that you can press and hold both the volume up button and power button until the "Samsung Galaxy S II" screen comes on it puts you right into recovery.
I've tried it on several ROMs and at the lock screen, home screen, ANY screen and works every time.
Watch this video I uploaded.
Hit "thanks" if this has helped!
Well being that this is how we do get into recovery when the phone is off my guess would be doing it with the phone on just turns the phone off and reboots it.

Right. But without having to access the power menu or removing the battery.
Takes just 16 seconds instead this way.
This works on all builds. Not just ICS. IT also works going into download mode too

I would think hard reboots are not good, else the phone would shut down instantly the regular way as well

I was only pointing out that this feature can be done at ANY point and time.
I realize doing this when on a home screen works, and have realized it since we all learned it worked.
Just wanted to inform noobs AND veterans alike.
Hey guys, I asked this over on androidcentral and didnt get any responses, I think it might be more geared for you guys though.
Does anyone know what determines the length of time the power button needs to be held in for to turn the tablet on? It doesnt seem like its related to the hardware because its takes 5 long sec to turn it on and only 2 sec to turn it off. I would really like to change the power on time to about 3 sec if thats possible.

Nash, the point of a forum like XDA is to find out how to do the things ordinary people think arent possible. There are a lot of smart people on here, probably some who know every square inch of a tablet. Obviously if the power button responds after the same amount of time, every time, there is something that tells it to do so. Whether it be coded in or just how the hardware was made. If it is something thats changable that would be awesome and im just looking for someone to point me in a direction.
