Finally get off Sprints lies of 4G.. I was there from the beginning when they promised me Wimax would be everywhere..
Realizing the HSPA with T-mobile is definitely different then at&t's HSPA.. Its very fast in my area..
So I'm doing it!!!
I plan to root it first thing.. Then put on the newest Juggernaut Rom..
It seems very stable from what many are saying..
I assume there are themes and such for this Rom as well?
Any other tips or tricks you guys can recommend that would be great..
Noo try Macnut... support for juggs is pretty much dead...

Powered by the SGSII....
Ive been using touchless and its been quite good with the darkside kernel...
Congrats on the phone. I'm still running juggernaut 3.7. I haven't really felt the need to try another Rom. I have looked at the macnut. It seems like it's still jugs with little changes.
Same here man, I left Sprint after being a customer since 2006...
I was pleasantly shocked at my coverage with T-Mobile and the HSPA+ speeds here, everything is so much better than Sprint. Congrats on the move, I got out because of a material change in the contract.
I recommend reading up on the rooting guides as well as watching this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfA1KKzXkFU. This video is pretty much is fool-proof and if you're a veteran to rooting, then this phone is EZ PZ.
Wow.. thanks all.. Thanks for the heads up on the rom..
This Macnut rom.. It's super stable? Sense rom I assume?
First of all..
First of all, you must root and install a custom ROM if possible. Definitely makes the experience more enjoyable

The most up to date roms in our forum are macnut and darkside.
Also, they use touchwiz... Sense is for htc phones.

heheh.. ok... Touchwiz it is..
I'm gonna put Macnut as it seems the most popular..
Anything else?
Whats some other goodies I should know about?
Camera tricks?
themes I assume are all included in the rom topic post ?
if you want something that will have everything working, even have apps work that sometimes somehow it doesnt in other roms. Just root and stock and if you want something that doesnt update a lot, root and stock.
Yeah I was reading that some custom roms use up a lot of battery when using Bluetooth. So I have been reading a great deal before I actually do anything. I can deal with the bloatware for now till I get a good grasp of everything.

stock and root, then remove bloatwares.. thats all you need. all custom rom add is the 14 toggle statusbar, maybe custom kernel... to support BLN or however ( top of of my head ) seen it around but doesnt phase me... other than that, its just themes.. everything is based on 2.3.6 + themes, especially eugenes rom, it seems nothing but theme and LG hack... same ol same.... and people gave him money for a " theme ROM" from him.. wow... give me 350, we will have AOSP them.. with tweaks...
Wife got her SGS2 yesterday and I rooted it with Juggernaut. As a rom, it was fairly disappointing at first as it looked nearly exactly stock, but it did have some good UI tweaks built in as well as an app to toggle bloat on and off. Using titanium to get rid of some of the extra bloat, and launcher pro to ditch TouchWiz UI it's running pretty smooth.
Today is the first day of real use and I have high hopes for it.
Try a few roms, You'll spend more time waiting for them to download than to install and configure with all the upload sites now, but at least you can get a feel for what's out there.
Then just bookmark and stalk the forums for a AOSP ICS build.

The modded versions of 2.3.6 are much better than stock. try macnut or darkside warfare. those are currently the most up to date roms available for our phone.

I tried darkside's ROM; and honestly I don't like touchwiz and I wasn't impressed by the rom because it still had samsung and T-mobile crap on it. Don't get me wrong its a great job with the kernel and I can tell that a lot of hard work went into it, but I'm not looking for just no bloat and system customization. I guess I'm spoiled coming from latest support and development for Cyanogenmod on my Nexus phones, but I loaded the abandoned CM7 mod and Da_G's kernel for the Skyrocket S2 as some other people have used. Some issues...but its expected since it was abandoned in its alpha stage. I'll just be patiently waiting until CM9 rolls around .

Who said CM9 is coming to this phone?
I got the phone today.. And all I can say is WOW!!
It's unreal!!
Whats touchwiz exactly ??
I rooted the phone first thing, but as of now, I'm not putting a rom into it.. I will just play with it as it is now..
I hate the fact though I cannot change the drawer task bar... The bottom buttons...
I don't use the stock messaging program (I use handcet) and I cannot remove it..
Sucks..
as for the speed..
Holy ****!!!
I cannot believe this glorified 3g system is this fast.. I guess it doesn't matter LTE, Wimax or what.. I'm getting download speeds of 20 down and 3-4 up..
Average.. lowest I've seen 5 down so far.
This thing is awesome!!
Touchwiz is the launcher. If you want to change your drawer apps go to your apps menu and hit the menu button them edit. Then just drag whatever you want to change in your dock.
And not to bust your bubbles, have you checked your display on low brightness in a dark room and noticed the blobs and vertical lines on your phone.? I'm pretty sure you'll begin to notice it very soon. Thought id give you a heads up. This is am overall bad ass phone except for that flaw.

You know you can just add the flag -notw to the Darkside file name and that will get rid of TouchWiz and most of the T-mobile/Samsung apps right? I'm guessing you didn't read the "flags" area in the first post of the DARKSIDE DIGITAL WARFARE thread.

Went with my dad to get these phones today..
I went through about 3 of them, before I found two that had ZERO lines or issues..
I checked the best I could.. Went into the back room, which was dark and opened a bunch of dark pictures from the web..
I saw some lines on 3 of them.. before I found the next two that didn't look like they had them..
so if it does have them, its so minor, you will never be able to tell..
At least not enough that I have to TRY and see them..

This was actually cyanogenmods decision. They decided to skip cm7 for the snapdragon gs2's (basically ours) and just jump to CM9. Were just waiting for source and an ICS leak so we can get drivers to run it. CM7 is good enough as a DD if you really wanted to use it.
............
i think thats bullshi, that they would do that so dumb y skip on it i dont think we are getting it ics till like august

Because I think they want to focus on the latest OS for our phones, then to work on an older one.
Also, rumors around the forums are that there might be ICS by the end of the month.

Try not to think about it, youll just want a new phone more and more, or an old one, which gets Alphas while we get nothing.
Use the search function next time. At least 20 of these threads. And Im sure we will all forget about cm7 when we get cm9.

Personally, i hate that they decided to skip cm7. I have so many apps so i hate the ics app drawer, i like the widgets, but those can be downloaded, and there are just too many issues for me with ICS. I was really hoping for a stock GB rom instead of Dewizzed, which is kind-of laggy. Guess im stuck with it until after cm9 and probably for another few months while someone else tries to port cm7.
Tbh I dont care how the ****ing thing looks you can always change that ,but I want a good working cm7 like 50% lighter mb wize then most roms

It's understandable you all want CM7, but there's no point in wasting time when they SHOULD be working on an ICS based AOSP ROM instead (CM9). It doesn't make sense from their perspective to work on an obsolete OS for a brand new phone. They'd much rather focus on CM9 for a variety of phones in the meantime of waiting for an ICS release/leak of our S2.
I too am a fan of CM7, as it was my daily driver for my Vibrant...but it doesn't make sense to work on an older version of Android on a new phone when old phones are getting the newest OS.

Have you tried Juggernaut 5.0? I've been running the CM7 alpha since I got this phone and randomly decided to make the switch the other day. I pretty much like everything about it better. Colors look better, no lag - even feels a bit smoother IMO. You might lose a bit of the customization, but there are so many apps out there these days that will give you any of those things it doesn't matter.

As everyone's stated, I think it was all about timing. Our phone, and the skyrocket were released really late in the GB game. ICS will come before too long. I remember the wait for GB years ago, now it's the same thing all over again!
Ok i have not put anything new on my phone in a month.I have cauks older Rom.I have not even updated it.
I was reading the development section and i am lost in reading. So going to 1 for the first time and not having tons of issues that i get stuck with which Rom seems to be doing the best in the ICS rom section?
I understand ill get different views from people who love 1 person but i really just want to best Rom going on right now.
thanks.

I like Calks (2) Roms...Either One and and right now Im runnin Mijjah 74's Goodness at the Moment...Ive run all three... All three Roms work exceptionally Well..
probably Calkulin but...
i agree about the three of those being good bets. i've heard and read the most positive things about Calukin's stuff. It's not uncommon for other ROMs to be based on his work.
That being said, I'm also on Mijjah's Blend ICS (the Goodness). The earlier versions had a few more hiccups (mainly GPS). I'm on ver 2.5.1 and have not ran into any issues yet. GPS, check. Notification sounds, check. Notification LED indicator... oh, OK. 1 minor issue so far.
The test builds of CM9 is working pretty well, battery life is kinda bad though and for some reason it doesn't play audio through my car dock.
Sigh, back to Gingerbread I go...
Depends on your personal preference... If you wish to remain on Touchwiz, try one of the above suggestions.
For AOSP, there's CM9, AOKP, and Codename. All are smooth and filled with customizable options.
Personally, I'm in love with Codename(over General atm)
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
AOKP is badass for sure, TCP did a great job. Much better than the others imo. Havent tried Codename yet but i hear its slightly better due to more customizing

These ICS roms have tons of bugs. Nothing really major aside from complete incompatibility with my bt car kit.
But still, they are far from being a daily driver.
If I had to choose, I'd probably pick aospmod rom.

False, the FC leaks ones are 99% bug free.
CM9, Codename and AOKP all have their share of serious bugs.

I've been running Codename for a week, and haven't experienced a single serious bug. It's almost as solid for me as the GB Touchwiz roms were.
OP, it really depends on what you want. If you want Touchwiz, then I'd definitely go with one of Calk's roms. If you want AOSP, then I'd recommend Codename, followed by CM9, then AOKP.

I think 99% might be an overestimate. Some lucky folk have had that experience, a great many other people are getting only a "few" bugs, but fundamental ones, like borked contacts and failing notifications, etc.

I don't know of any rom on any phone that works 100%. Even official Samsung releases don't work 100%.
I keep running back to gingerbread. I kept telling myself that I will try ics when its an official release. I get the itch to flash something and always go back to what works. I was running for a day, a rom from someone, but had to Odin back to EL29 because there was something I wanted to do but couldn't because of a snafu. I personally prefer stability over the newest bells and whistles.

Same here. I keep telling myself it would be the same, buggy enough not to be useful as a daily driver, but the flashaholic in me takes over.
So, hours are usually wasted.
Yeah i think ill just update cauks non ics rom for a bit yet and let the bugs play out.
I've been running Agat63's tFCXX series (currently on tFC18 0.1.1) since FC06; they're as smooth as ICS roms get, IMHO. A nice light "frosting" of the AOSP ICS look (courtesy of tiffany84), choice between stock and rogue-repacked (w/ CWM recovery) kernels, otherwise generally fairly close to the "stock" leaks except where Agat can convince himself he's not adding bugs/instability beyond what is naturally going to be in a leaked pre-release with build.prop tweaks, bloatware trimming, and such. Plus he's incredibly responsive to his users' requests and very open to providing them options.
FC06/FC07 was _just_ good enough to be a DD for me (but _barely_). FC15 and now FC18 have been nearly flawless in my experience. Of course, YMMV but I find _very_ little to complain about. Just my experience - the one thing I've learned from reading a LOT in ICS related threads is that everybody's phone behaves a little bit differently, everyone uses their phone a little bit differently, and everyone wants something a little bit different -- my recommendation would be to nandroid and start testing the roms ppl mention in this thread until you find one that works well for you (or decide ICS isn't done enough for you yet and you want to stay on GB a little bit longer).

There's really not that much new ICS has to offer over GB. Not for this phone anyway.

For tw roms, yes ics is very similar to gb. But there's a world of difference between gb aosp and ics aosp. Like cm7 << cm9. Agreed that there's still bugs to be worked out for any ics roms, but some really good work has been done by our devs without having e4gt ics source released.
OP, if you do try ics roms right now, its a really good idea to be very cautious using any ics recovery. There is a real risk with bricking your phone, especially with aosp roms.

Hey guys ill be coming to the Galaxy S2 device from the lacking mytouch 4g slide im buying one for 300 usd with a seidio case and clip is that a good deal and what are some of you guys dislikes and likes about this phone am i getting a good deal?
Yeah if its in good condition then 300-350 is normal for a used one. The case is a bonus.
I would check the screen and make sure it is not terrible....some are worse than others. Some have vertical lines and blobs. A google search will reveal a lot of information on the subject.
you'll want to check if it's Korea manufactured. Those seem to be of lesser quality than the China ones.
I'm just sayin!

Hit the thank you button. The phone has no notification led which is annoying to me. Also we dont have any 100% working AOSP build which sucks. However, it is a great phone. As far as roms go... I personally think that Darkside's Digital Warfare is the best and everything works. Otherwise you can just run a debloated stock.
Is this phone worth comming from a Mytouch 4g slide? for 300 or should i just wait. Do all the galaxy s2 phones have the same development and progress compaired to sprints and att? or is this one behind
phone is definitly worth it and right now anything that M & S is putting out is outstanding you have a few choices as far as roms he has Paradox 2 which is seriously stunning and then you have Tuesday Blue Ray right now which is the fastest and best looking rom ive ever seen go ahead and get the phone you will not be disapointed

AOSP refers to ROMs that are 100% stock with absolutely zero touchwiz. These are roms released straight from Google to the nexus phones, cyanogenmod, and miui. While we have booting versions of all 3, the only one that is kind of close to working is CM7 thanks to Eugene. We have an AOSP ics ROM from raver that definitely has potential but isn't there yet. Miui is the least developed of the 3.
If you're okay with touchwiz (you pretty much have to be at this stage in development), almost all the roms are completely functional but I personally like digital warfare the best for stability and battery life.
The phone is definitely worth switching to. I've been having lots of fun with mine.

That is incorrect. Basically every gingerbread ROM has absolutely zero issues. Three only exception I would say is beastmod which I think has a few bugs. There are zero issues with digital warfare.

Are you illiterate? AOSP does not mean stock. The stock roms for any galaxy phone have touchwiz. AOSP is just android. No bloat, no touchwiz, just android. Al of the touchwiz roms function 100%, except beastmod as stated before. The 3 AOSP roms are not functioning at 100%. CM7 is the closest AOSP rom to fully functional.

I can name call as well as the next guy, but I'm only here to learn. So far I see a lot of nastiness and belligerent behavior from so many here. Maybe I'm in the wrong place. I thought the people here, were here to help. I guess I'm wrong. A bunch of snobs, I need not.

I can see the confusion. Stock from Samsung has touchwiz and works completely. Stock from Google is AOSP and is not fully functional.

Which is exactly why I asked if you were illiterate. Because he stated the exact same thing I did. Just in a longer format. I do not see how you got confused with this statement. Honestly I don't see how anybody got confused with it.
Just got my galaxy S2
I'm sure everyone has noticed that aokp is way ahead of CM in terms of development, functionality, and features.... as well as being ported over to tons of devices...I've been an Android guy since the G1 I remember the beginning of CyanogenMod and I have ran it on every android device I've owned (around 13 or so) but I've never seen them behind the curve like they are now.... So do you guys think AOKP is taking over or CyanogenMod is still on top?

I dont know if I would claim any one ROM being better than another but its important to remember that CyanogenMod supports way more devices than they used to. They are a much bigger entity now which means more organization, more necessary equipment and more devs as we've seen them ask for recently. Just like HTC Samsung and any other manufacturer, bigger size and more people to support means it takes longer to get everything working right.
They are still more well known and recognized than any other 3rd party team.

I have to agree cyanogenmod used to be about putting android on anything. now they act like an oem not even trying to do what the manufacturers dont want to do. Thats why i steer people away from it.
I've tried both and aokp is simply better, in looks and performance. Try Mijjah's Slim N Trim AOKP rom, it's really nice.

Makes me wonder what features CM9 will have that AOKP doesn't already have?

I like AOKP more than CM9. Also I think it way better than CM. IMHO
Well, I have followed both CM and AOKP since the very first release and AOKP's development simply pulled me away from CM.

I don't think that this is a fair comparison. Wait until both release a "final" product (as final as anything can be... ), and then make comparisons. I am sure that CyanogenMod will catch up, but they also are working on a TON more devices. As of right now, yes, AOKP is ahead, but I'm sure a lot more time has gone into the AOKP rom for this phone. Again wait until the 2 roms are at the same stage of development to compare them, and I'm sure that they will be at least equal.
From what ive gathered it seems AOKP is on devices that CM9 isnt coming to. Thats why i like it. Plus they are willing to work with the CDMA devices rather than giving up on someof them like CM does.
You do know half the features of CM9 are disabled on our phone....the source kernel will help us see the true potential of CM9 and enable the features in due time

I like the notification/toggle menu on AOKP and there are a few options I have seen on AOKP either not on our phones yet or not in CM9. I severely dislike the Pink Unicorn so a boot animation replacement is in order
That said I like that CM9 has its own custom launcher thats ALMOST worth using over Apex/Nova. I have seen some toggle mods that are desirable compared to the tiny icons. I really just want the timeout/orientation in addition to the usual without them being small. Having them there replaces using widgets and allows me to get at them at almost any moment.
Sliding for brightness over notification is really not working right at the moment and having the slider on AOKP is nice. Normally on TW I have simi clock tap launch a brightness control and thats been working for me forever. Once again AOKP removes one more need.
But I see myself sticking with CM9.
