Install older flash version? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I had to find and install flash 10.2 (modified) to make flash vids work on another slower device and i'm wondering, should i uninstall flash 11.x on my xperia and put 10.2 instead, to make it smoother/faster? What are difference between 10.2 and 11?
Thanks

surely 11 is faster and smoother as well as more optimized?

Ok then i will keep v11. I don't understand why people said 10.2 is better then...

Sorry but that was not needed.
its kinda common knowledge that newer versions are generally better.
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk

That's silly belief. New versions often have issues, that can be they became slower, for whatever reason, and this can take some time to fix. So installing newer version without checking comments is not smart. FYI.

why bump the thread nearly a month later? considering adobe only just started with android their latest version is most likely going to be better

Why don't you ask the person who said the older version was better.
If you have problems with the newer version then use the old one.
If you want to find out if it speeds up your device then test it out.
Why you would want to use an older version would be beyond me unless your having problems with the current one.

What's best for nitro p930?

Hi guys, got nitro hd a few weeks later. Till now never rooted and it's still in gb 2.3.5. Now wanted to try something and thought of upgrade or flashing a roms.
So what I need is, should i go for official ICS or cm rom. And as I'm a noob would like a detailed tutorial on flashing/rooting.
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here's my suggestion of how to progress into the custom ROMs world...
1. Read about rooting your Nitro. Look in our Dev Forum for guides on doing it.
2. Root while you're still on 2.3.5 (to circumvent any of the stated issues with rooting Official ICS), also install CWM (ClockworkMod) on it as it will allow you to easily install ROMs.
3. Then try the CM9 ROM nightlies. It's fast, stable and smooth.
4. After you've gotten comfortable with that and have gone through a few nightlies...Then you can feel free to venture forth into the other custom ROMs (MAKE SURE you're familiar with making proper backups in case you want to revert back to previous builds/ROMs), or even the CM10 Preview builds.
Good luck!

Sorry to Hijack .But isnt it like a Pain to Root the Official ICS update ,wouldnt it be easier to root on 2.3.5 and install CWM and then flash ? Im not second guessing you ,I just got my Nitro HD today but been reading that the process to root ICS is kind of long and tricky.

You could be right. I rooted mine back on 2.3.5 so I haven't gone through any of the hassles as have been stated with rooting from official ICS. I shall adjust my original post.
Doble check.
OP double check your baseband version cuase if its 2.3.5 V10j ,it has been stated that its nearly impossible yet doable after many tries.
To be honest, I don't know more details about the android world. Can someone plz link the basics of android like cwm, adb & so I can have some basic knowledge about it.
Actually, I feared I would brick it.
And thanks guys for the replies.

If you wanna try the official ICS, get cwm from ROM manager. Then download honos flash able official ICS. Try it out, if you like it, keep it, if you don't, switch to something like cm9 or cm10 or hono's full throttle or honos aokp, the choices are endless, all you need to do is search .

Try the official ics before custom ics, it's WAY faster than official gingerbread, it's stable and once debloated it's pretty perfect as it is to me.
Then if you want to taste something else, try the cm9/10 but I would let them as a second passage to ics/jb.
For the official rom you can either flashing with lg tool (using the before - after rooting method brianlily posted here) or go with cwm as stated by rani9990, it should be the same.. the substantial difference is that if you don't put the cwm recovery before ics, then you'll need to go through partial unbrick process to revert back to gingerbread, because on ics the cwm won't be possible to install.

Looking for a stable rom for my 8 y/o daughters Kindle

Hello, I am looking for a stable rom for my 8 y/o daughters Kindle. I was thinking about just unrooting it and letting her just use it that way. But I have a lot of games on my Play account that she will lose. Can you recommend any roms?
You want a stable rom? Well, then I recommend the HorseROM.
But seriously, I like twa_priv's work. Also take a look at the SmoothRom port by Ichigo.

Thank, I will take a look at those. One question are these roms like when you flash roms on your phone? It will get rid of the Amazon UI or OS and when she turns it on it goes directly to the rom I flashed?

Verizon Gnex- want to install Fancy Kernal

I want to install Fancy Kernal, i am running CM 10.1 right now. Can anyone tell me how to do this, (do i need to format all my data and start fresh or can i just wipe cash or dalvik cash.) If anyone acct. uses it- is it a good idea to switch?
Thanks
Firstly. Wrong section you've posted this. Secondly the instructions are given on the kernels page. Third? It's kernel not kernal, and it's cache, not cash.
Kernels are flash in CWM/TWRP and use, they're straightforward.

I am relaxed if anything. Because the higher ups may either just write this off as 'please use the search function' or answers already given on thread and have this locked.
like I said you need to read the thread, there are alot of things you need to consider. For one you're using Verizon, officially you don't have 4.2.2 or 4. 3 but thanks to cm or muzzy you have 4.3/4.2.2, you can't just flash off without knowing what your firmware is. 4.2.2 or 4.3, it will work for 4.2 just not 4.3

Well cm and regular roms usually have different ramdisks. Unless the kernel is universal. If I were you just flash the latest fancy, then boot up. If It loads fine, all and well but if it fails and loops you, just boot into recovery and flash CM again on top. That should save you if you get stuck.

I noticed some comments on the download saying after installing they fell into a boot loop, but I didn't have any problems like that. Only two issues I saw was rom mgr was gone and wifi couldn't get past "...turning on" (even after a reboot).
I went ahead and went back to my backup and will give cm11 a try every day or so - the wifi thing I suspect will work itself out.

Most likely yes, TWRP is the culprit. Try Philz Touch 6.0.0.8, it has been amazing for me. Make sure to do a complete wipe of system, Dalvik-cache, and cache, the option on Philz is called "complete wipe to install new ROM" and then make sure to flash 4.4 GApps as well.

the cameras fine. the original CM 11 had some bugs like the front facing camera freezing up a phone and causing a reboot but the newest updates based off Google's release of 4.4.1 which was to fix bugs with the camera on the Nexus 5 they have fixed all camera issues and it even takes photos/focuses faster than before.
anybody able to use ART runtime, mine just reboots but it doesn't change it. my nexus 7 with CM11 does run ART though, any luck?

it was the same GAPPS i used on my Nexus 7 tho, ohh well, im gonna have to read up on it, i did try looking for info here at xda but couldnt find much, didnt have much much time to look though.
I just Installed the newest nightly and Xposed Installer+GravityBox(KK) to make up for the past CM features such as controlling the brightness witht the status bar and changing the launching application on the notification bar's Time & Date. One feature I am still missing is removing the names of the apps on the homescreen... If you like extra features and modifications to your guy's phone i highly recomment Xposed+Gravitybox. Im loving 4.4 even with a broken screen which i hoping to abandon soon, but it really feels like a new phone and new experience, i know there wasnt much change but still

Short answer: No
Long answer: Most likely the ROM won't boot, and if it flashes a radio it *might* soft-brick
WELL. Haha, I guess that's my answer haha. I got spoiled being able to just edit the Updater script or flash a kernel on other devices. Thanks man.

Others have reported that you can flash a flo ROM on a deb. You will not have data access though, so it doesn't make much sense to do that.
As always, YMMV.

This seems to be the situation most of the time. The ROM 's will flash but anything extra on Deb that's not on the Flo will not function is data. Which as stated defeats the purpose of having Deb.

I'm not really concerned with the data being available, but I'm not familiar enough with the device to chance bricking it by flashing an incompatible ROM...so I guess I'll stick to deb-specific builds for now.
