Looking for a stable rom for my 8 y/o daughters Kindle - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I am looking for a stable rom for my 8 y/o daughters Kindle. I was thinking about just unrooting it and letting her just use it that way. But I have a lot of games on my Play account that she will lose. Can you recommend any roms?

You want a stable rom? Well, then I recommend the HorseROM.
But seriously, I like twa_priv's work. Also take a look at the SmoothRom port by Ichigo.

Thank, I will take a look at those. One question are these roms like when you flash roms on your phone? It will get rid of the Amazon UI or OS and when she turns it on it goes directly to the rom I flashed?

Yep, it's the same as when you flash it on your phone.

On the official CyanogenMod 10.1 the final 100% stable general release will be being released soon. I'd try that

Hashcode's AOSP 4.2.2 is a great daily driver.

you can't go wrong with CM 10.1.2 stable.

I have the modaco rom on my son's and it's perfect for a kid. Stock rooted kindle amazon os with the Google play store.
I've noticed that the amazon os is much easier for a youngster to get the hang of.

The first two cyanogenmod roms I put on my kindle got stuck in 'setup manager has stopped working' loop. I installed 10.1-20130724-1413-otter-sgt7 and it's as stable as possible. Everything works perfectly. 100% recommended daily driver.

EDIT: Sorry guys, I won't be maintaining this anymore. I really apologize, but there's just too much to do nowadays. I will still maintain my carbon builds. (These boot and work without modification right now, for some reason my slim build won't boot, and I don't really have time to figure out why, because it could be an issue on my side or their side)

Are you really the dev of these ROMs? They seem a bit untrustworthy, since you or anyone else hasn't tested them.

He is compiling them. The Kindle fire base and the kernel is developed by Hashcode. Slim, AOKP, and Carbon implementations are all created by their perspective developers. Does that answer your question? Compiling a Rom is just a matter of setting up the proper environment and repositories then letting it rip. Well there`s a bit more to it than that but you get the jist.
Yeah he's exactly right. ^ also, I test the first build to make sure it does work and then I put it out if anyone wants to use it. I am building these myself. I can take screenshots of the builds straight from my computer if you'd like.
I may not be able to maintain all these ROMs, but I'd like to put the options out there. I might have to request for other people to maintain the aokp and slimbean thread if life gets too busy. I was originally only planning on maintaining carbon.. So I will keep going with that.
Thanks for the ports. Slimbean runs well, no real problems or quibbles I've found so far.
36 hours and one full cycle into this one and all is good. Seems SlimBean has settled in nicely on my KF. Thanks androidsftw! Your efforts to bring this variety of ROMs for us is greatly appreciated here!

Actually, it's not rare at all.
Not sure why people are being skittish about using the ROM, I've run it for about a week now and it's rock solid stable! Fast and smooth...definitely one of the best 4.3.1 ROMs out.
Edit; Ive been using a few of the KitKat 4.4 system apks ( Play services, email, GEL Launcher, keyboard...) from here without any issues, making this Rom just that much more awesome. Can't wait for SlimRom to get updated to the new base!

To be honest with you I already have cm 11 and aosp built for the kindle fire. Unfortunately I can't test either until twrp releases a new build with kitkat support. I attempted to build twrp from source.. And it did build.. But let's just say the recovery doesn't work well xD.

[Q] Lag and phone won't turn on (sometimes)

Hi,
I've installed the stable version of Cyanogenmod 10.2 and I like it but I'm encountering some problems from time to time. First one is one I'm typing a text message it will suddenly freeze for about 5-10 seconds. The second one is lag when I try to get my phone out of standby mode or I just a black screen. The icons at the bottom of my phone light up but nothing else happens... Anything I can do about these problems? Or should I just try another clean install instead?
Thanks.
Try clean install, but 10.2 stable was the most unstable build for me.
Cm11 is just the opposite.

How would you do that if it was possible? And did a full clean install, no issues so far although it's too early to say.

if there is a kernel dev that has an aftermarket kernel for your device you can just flash over the rom

Did that work out for you? I'm having the exact same issues. I did do a clean install the first time, so I'm going kernel hunting...

[Q] Help!

What Custom ROM, actually, is better?
Using custom ROMs, all functions are working?
These specifications aren't clear for me :/
Please, help me!
Thank u!
If you use CyanogenMod, you now get the FM radio if you use a 3rd party kernel like f93 you get more features too. There's also Xposed Framework for even more customisation. I'm using CyanFox with Solid Kernel. Battery life is brilliant. If you want more help, just ask.

If you don't have F Radion on stock, it means that your model doesn't have it. No hardware for FM Radio. You can use internet radio apps.

I use stock rom, CyanogenMod 10.2, then Cyanogenmod 11, then MIUI, PAC, Omni, Vanir / Commotio
I do like cyanogenmod but the last update that I have probably have a bug, I can't call anyone after plug an earphone, the only solution is to reboot.
I try PAC, having the same issue like Cyanogen, I guess because it share the same build with Cyanogen.
then I try mokee, first I thought by using this ROM i won't need to download 180MB daily for updating my ROM, but in the end I don't like it.
then I use MIUI, I do like the UI, but ES File Explorer can't work in this ROM, don't know why, Root Browser is okay though. use this ROM for 2 Weeks.
then I flash again to Commotio Vanir, this rom is quite perfect, no automatic updater tough, so I switch to Vanir AOSP, this one have an updater, I think I'm gonna stick to this ROM for a while.
is it just me or the servers of cyanfox doesnt work?

[Q] can someone suggest a stable ROM

I'm looking for the most stable ROM out there I've been on clean ROM for a while now because it states it's stability but I get random reboots at the most inconvenience times as I run my ar.drone from my nexus 7 and it's not a good thing to have it up a hundred feet in the air and your tablet decides to reboot
So if someone could suggest a ROM that they haven't had any Radom reboots with

Gravitybox is made for stock ROMs., that's why you had issues. Custom roms are not compatible with GB (yes, cleanrom is considered is a custom rom).
I'm using Paranoid Android Official, and it's really stable. I hardly ever have random reboots :good:

This will always be more stable than any custom ROM, regardless of what others might want you to believe.

I've been using CM11 with ElementalX and overclocked to 1.9ghz and have had no stability issues what so ever !

Will the kindle fire 2 get an Android 5.0 ROM?

Does anyone think this will happen? I'm hoping someone makes one for our device.
The CM team are working on CM 12, but no word yet on if it's coming for the KF2.

I don't know why you would want to bring this thread back up. As of now it's completely useless. I posted that before there was even a 5.0 ROM for the KF2.. You responding was not needed at all.
