I'm looking at purchasing a used xperia play r800x (verizon) on ebay, ive checken and the esn is clear but the screen is locked due to forgetting the screen unlock code.
is there anyway on a stock unrooted phone that a stock rom can be flashed and clear up the problem?
ive rooted several android phones and always run custom roms ive just never tried it on a stock phone so im not sure if its possible.
thanks in advance
you could use the sony ericsson PC companion to flash your phone i think.
or you could unlock the bootloader, install a custom recovery and make a factory reset with this.

Flash the latest firmware using flashtool and that should solve it...
Problem with my Xperia Play
Hi, I have an Xperia Play that I have unlocked the bootloader on and installed a custom kernel. Everything worked just fine until weeks after I did these things the screen suddenly went black and the phone turned off. I have not been able to start it since it happend, when I try to boot the phone it will just vibrate and then nothing, the screen stays black. Even if it does not boot the computer recognizes it and I can flash roms with flashtools etc. I have tried alot of different roms and returned to stock kernel, I have even re-locked the bootloader and made a clean update with SEUS but without success, nothing happens on the screen. Have anyone had the same issue? Thanks! /David
brick
hi, I just got a xperia play from a friend of mine. He rooted it and updated and it probably got bricked by the update. It doesn't do anything. When you push power it just buzzes. Now I don't have really that much information. but I think he unlocked the bootloader and flashed to root.
now for wat I have tried. I searched for solutions for this problem. That's when I came upon the flashtool. I tried flashing it simply with the generic_uk firmware. But it didn't do anything. Further research landed me upon a FOTAUnbrick tool. I read some of the information but I didn't really get it (most of the times I do know what i'm doing). So in my "nothing to lose spirit" i just tried it and guess what ? nothing. Now I know this is really vague and probably doesn't have a solution. But I'm keeping my hopes up for someone to bust this bugger.
i have tried to flash/install custom roms that use the stock kernal, but none of them didnt result in a bootloop. are there any roms that would or could work for me? any help would be nice. semi-noob.
xperia play r800at (at&t)
rooted stock 2.3.3
locked BL
(also, if there is any free way to unlock sim network, let me know)
Don't know about customs roms so I'll wait with you for an answer. But as for unlocking the sim network. It's pretty cheap. It cost me $7USD to unlock it. Don't know if that's any help since that's not the question you asked.
to my understanding u have to unlock the bootloader in order to flash a custom rom. I just had my r800at unlocked by a guy from xda. I have ICS running on my r800at as we speak and i love it.

How do you get out of the bootloop?
This is my first r800at, and after several sammys and htc, I found flashtool message "Error flashing. Aborted" a little short on feedback
I have a UK Xperia Play on .42 firmware with CWM recovery and root provided by Zerg Rush.
I've heard that I need .62 to install some of the custom firmwares.
.42 appears to be the latest firmware I can get OTA. I'm not sure the best way to upgrade to .62, do I need to go via .58 or similar.
Does it matter that I have a UK phone?
Is it possible to preserve my settings?
Will I need to re-root at any time?
In the long run I am looking to install DooMKerneL and probably something like Jokawild.
You have to flash the ftf file for your phone
Here is a link to 99% of them

If you install a new firmwares. Maybe you'll need to root it again..
But since the devs makes the pre-rooted custom ROMs, you don't need to root it anymore

I don't have an unlocked bootloader. Is this required to install a custom ROM even if I have root?
Is there any disadvantage to unlocking the bootloader?

No unlocked bootloader = no custom kernels/ very limited to roms
Only disadvantage is it voids your warranty, but being that you have root, you have no warranty anyway lol
I was in the same position as you. I wanted to get a custom ROM and be able to overclock my phone. After a few annoying errors, I finally got it up and running
Basically, your going to have get your phone into flashmode and then flash the .62.ftf file on your phone. Congratualtions you now have .62FW (although youve lost root).
To get root on .62 FW, your going to have to flash a custom kernel (I did DoomKernel v14). To flash a kernel, your going to have to unlock your bootloader. After unlocking and flashing the kernal, your phone is now rooted.
And plus the positive side Ive heard is that you CANNOT brick your sony eircsson phone. (well you probably could but there is a very very slim chance of that happening).
Thanks.
It seems I can't unlock via the regular Sony way as Unlock Bootloader is set to no.
I think I need S1Tool or something similar (maybe something I have to pay for) to get my bootloader unlocked. I'll check the forums a bit before I ask any questions that haven't been asked before
i did it via omnius and it work great, i just payed 19.76 for one single unlock credit on gsmserver
not sure why people say that root voids warranty.
i have ATT play 4g and it was having hardware issues, so i flashed the stock ATT software back and took it to the store. i got a "new" one in the mail two days ago.
I also sent my rooted xperia play that had the slider broken to CLARO El Salvador and they repaired it (They flashed their ROM again XD)
Now i have unlocked bootloader but who cares i have premium insurance
Any modification to the software voids the warranty..
Update:
I downloaded s1tool and connected the test point to the ground. Everything seems to have worked so I am guessing my bootloader is unlocked. Is there anyway I can verify this, or should I just attempt to install a kernel?

Try to put the phone in flash mode (green light) if it recognizes it, it's unlocked. I think there is a sequence or symbols/numbers you can do to check it, but idk what that is since im a r800x
To check your unlocked bootloader you need to dial: *#*#7378423#*#* , then go under, Service info > Configuration > Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes/No.

Unless you intend to flash custom Kernel, having a locked bootloader doesn't prevent you from flashing it with Flashtool unless you mean flashing CyanogenMod.
Year cyanogenmod
First place, i unlocked the bootloader. I don't know if was unlocked cause is not mine and the guy told me that he bought it unlocked for carriers. Well, after the "unlock" the phone lasted a lot for booting up. Well, i installed a based cwm recovery and flashed SuperSu for rooting the phone.
After that, i tried to this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54537621 I went to do a reset and with the data partition it shows "Error" so it can't format it. I installed the rom, but it's the same, the phone doesn't pass from bootanimation. Any ideas?

Did you use the CM11 CWM?
Cause you need to use CM11 kernel to flash CM11 ROM, and not from 4.3 kernel

Hmmm... I think I had the same experience as you. First thing: ALMOST every phone you will buy will have a locked bootloader, while being able to unlock it is more of a 50/50 thing. Second thing: I tried the method on sony's site to unlock bootloader, and that resulted in bootloop. Unlocked with flashtool and worked perfectly.
