Flash the latest firmware using flashtool and that should solve it...

Problem with my Xperia Play
Hi, I have an Xperia Play that I have unlocked the bootloader on and installed a custom kernel. Everything worked just fine until weeks after I did these things the screen suddenly went black and the phone turned off. I have not been able to start it since it happend, when I try to boot the phone it will just vibrate and then nothing, the screen stays black. Even if it does not boot the computer recognizes it and I can flash roms with flashtools etc. I have tried alot of different roms and returned to stock kernel, I have even re-locked the bootloader and made a clean update with SEUS but without success, nothing happens on the screen. Have anyone had the same issue? Thanks! /David

brick
hi, I just got a xperia play from a friend of mine. He rooted it and updated and it probably got bricked by the update. It doesn't do anything. When you push power it just buzzes. Now I don't have really that much information. but I think he unlocked the bootloader and flashed to root.
now for wat I have tried. I searched for solutions for this problem. That's when I came upon the flashtool. I tried flashing it simply with the generic_uk firmware. But it didn't do anything. Further research landed me upon a FOTAUnbrick tool. I read some of the information but I didn't really get it (most of the times I do know what i'm doing). So in my "nothing to lose spirit" i just tried it and guess what ? nothing. Now I know this is really vague and probably doesn't have a solution. But I'm keeping my hopes up for someone to bust this bugger.

[Q] R800a can not OTA update or enter fastboot, root problems? mode.

I recently purchased a R800 from someone on Craigslist. The phone is already rooted, permanantly I think since it is rooted after doing a factory restore. It is not sim locked, I believe its factory unlocked.
I tried to do the OTA update, which downloads, but fails to install. It appears to get about 3/4 of the way done, reboots and gives me an "update failed" message.
I wanted to unlock the boot loader, I got the unlock key from SE. I must of tried 10 times to get the phone to boot into fastboot mode, it NEVER does it. It simply boots up normally. I even got an app that makes it easy to reboot into restore or fastboot modes (just click an option and it reboots), however just like before the phone simply reboots normally. I even did a factory restore prior to trying the update... no go.
Should I try to remove the root access? Is this what is giving me all the problems. I was able to successfully install root explorer and titanium backup and both of those programs worked fine.
R800i, Android 2.3.3, Kernel 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1, Build number 3.0.1.A.0.145
Edit: Title should be "Can not OTA or enter fastboot mode, root problems?"
Is your phone sim locked? Sim locked phones need to be unlocked before able to unlock bootloader or fast load. After you unlock bootloader make sure you never ota update.

Your phone has a locked bootloader and a factory lockout on fastboot.
Best advice to you is flash the r800a world generic 2.3.2 root it with gingerbreak then ota update. Use a program called wontanserver as its super easy.
Dont get anyone to remove your factory locks on fastboot until you read tons of threads on these fourms from the last couple months.
Ok, lets see....

My phone is the R800a. It was my understanding that this phone was never locked (factory unlocked). It came in an official Sony Ericsson box and has no carrier branding on it what-so-ever. It was not purchased through a carrier. It does have a weird stock data APN called "Telekila"?!?!?

Doesn't wontonserver require credits to run? How expensive does this get?
I didn't know the phone could have a factory lock on the bootloader. I did go to the SE website where you get the unlock key and it was successful in giving me a key... Well I shouldn't exactly say "successful", it did give me a key code to use if and when I can unlock the bootloader, weather or not that code is actually legit remains to be seen. I'm a bit skeptical now since you said the phone is bootloader locked from the factory. I though SE was allowing their phones to be unlocked. I recently unlocked my Motorola Atrix and was expecting to do the same with this phone.
Thank you guys for the advice. I love this phone so far but I can't wait to get a custom rom on it
It uses credits but they are free.
There are currently 2 gentlemen on these forums that can remove your fastboot locks and unlock your bootloader.
Have a look for thier threads on this matter
I would like to have this done now, so gentlemen, whomever is able to do this please message me and we can work something out. Im dieing to get a new rom on this awesome phone/game console.

I flashed the r800a world generic 2.3.2 rooted it with gingerbreak then ota updated.I get the same thing as DMpire , reboots and gives me an "update failed" message.
Is this because I removed some of the stock apps that came on the phone after it was rooted? Anyone know about this?
Does it matter if the SD card is mounted or not?
Removing stock apps then trying to ota isnt going to happen. Reflash, root, ota, then remove your stock apps
Is there any easy way to do this? can I reflash it as it has a locked bootloader, or do I have to get the bootloader unlocked?

I got a glossy black brick... I think.

Hi everyone, on this past week I've been trying to get me XP back to life... but with no success.
For starters I woke up one day to find that my phone has powered off by itself (no root nor unlocked bootloader), tried to power it on but no response, had to remove e reinsert the battery for it to boot up. Some days later same thing but when i turned it on it started a bootloop, repaired with SEUS.
This week it made the same thing and i had to repair it with Wotanserver, but when i let it alone it would reboot... everytime it entered the sleep mode it would crash and reboot. Tried flashing some roms on the forum with no luck... now wotan sees my phone as a R800i when it really is a R800a and SEUS keep saying that me phone have the latest update.
Yesterday it stopped bootlooping... it don't even show the "Sony Ericcson" phrase.
I'm new to android phones got this phone in oct/2011, didn't installed CWM.
So if someone could try to help me i would really apreciate.
Ok so, download flashtool and flash the latest r800i firmware or the any r800a firmware. As long as you can enter flash mode, your phone is fine. The reason the roms didn't work is your locked bootloader.
Nevermind, Potato13 beat me to it before I finished typing.
Thanks for the replies.
Yes I tried flashtool with several rom's either R800i and R800a from .42 to .62, from US to HK. Neither made my phone show any signs of beeing better.

try to unlock your bootloader.. then flash r800a fw..
So to get this right - You already flashed different stock firmwares to it and that stuff still happened?
Should actually not happen... to me that would indicate that there is some kind of hardware problem since you never rooted the phone nor unlocked the bootloader to really mess things up.
I would send it in

Yes I was thinking on doing so but i already flashed other Fw's on this phone isnt my warrant already void? I'm saying this because I dont think I would have the money to pay the repair service.
As far as I am concerned, only rooting and unlocking the bootloader voids your warranty. You have done neither so you should be fine .
I asked Sony Customer support once how to handle my not booting phone and they adviced me to flash stock firmware - So I would figure they can't deny you services because of doing so.

Ohh I see thanks for the answer, really appreciate.
---------------------------Update(05/14/2012)--------------------------
Sent the phone to SE as sashake recommended, and turn out that the problem was with the hardware itself.
SE gave me a new unit as it was still covered by warranty.

[Q] Unlocking and Rooting a R800AT

I've been through a few guides and tips, yet I am still having trouble unlocking the bootloader and rooting an AT&T Xperia Play. I've tried using flashtools, downgrading firmwares, sonys official unlocking tool couldn't work, the manufacture date is past some programs limitations, and one last one suggested using gingerbreak and .184 UK firmware, however the .184 UK firmware is missing from links.
If anyone could help me out, or push me in the right direction, it would be greatly appriciated because I am completely lost.
I suppose to throw in some tests I did, after checking the rooting status using *#*#7378423#*#* on the dialer, nothing shows up indicating any rooting status, so the bootloader is still locked I suppose. The IMEI is 357593041206718, which is 15 characters and cannot be used for sony's official unlocking. The manufacture date is 12W15, past some companies ways to patch the boot loader, namely fastgsm's. I tried messaging the program from testpoint I guess (cannot post links but the second option to unlock in the wiki) to try and use their pay service.
A bit of progress, I believe I have unlocked and rooted the phone. When turned off, plugged in, and holding search, a blue light now appears. I ran super one click and got it to allow super user! Also, I got here by using an outside service to unlock my phone by shorting the two pins on the phone and plugging it in as well as using a credit.
So anyways, now even though WiFi is on and working, I cannot connect to the play store. Also confused at how to install a custom recovery software and how I can get my phone to ICS.

If your looking to install a custom recovery software download x-parts from the android store and it does recover root access however you can not install custom roms due to your locked bootloader. Yes you can install root or su on a locked bootloader. But to install a custom rom if that is what your going to do you need a unlock bootloader. In this case using a program called settool. Unlocking your bootloader is not free and I recommend alejandrissmo a reputable XDA member and he a site you can unlock your bootloader there.

Thank you for the reply, I have been able to unlock the bootloader through a difference source, same concept and did cost a tiny bit. Anyways now I'm lost trying to find a ROM that works, tried the AOKP customized release but wifi and bluetooth were not working. Have any suggestions?
Did you flash the wifi modules that went with the kernel you used? You could try to re-flash them if you did.

Yes, found that was the problem for most ROMs. AOKP still had the problem afterward though.
What kernel were you using with AOKP?

[Q] r800x - OTA after unlocked bootloader can't get back into fastboot

Successfully unlocked my bootloader this afternoon on my Verizon r800x. :good:
After rebooting, I stupidly accepted the OTA update, apparently didn't pay attention to the warnings from the Sony website. :silly:
Now I've got a nice brick.
My phone won't boot.
I can't get back into fastboot by holding the search button.
I CAN get into flashtool, but reflashing the stock FTF doesn't seem to help the situation
Any suggestions?
try unlocking again/downloading fastboot drivers? Sorry if this doesn't help, I don't know too much.
I appreciate the suggestion, but like I said, can't get in to fastboot mode on the phone itself. Don't get the blue LED. Wouldn't think that would have anything to do with drivers; Windows doesn't even acknowledge a device being plugged in while I hold the search button, but as soon as I let go, I get the GREEN LED and I can use flashtool.

It doesnt matter if the xperia play drivers are installed on your pc. If the blue light doesnt turn on when your powering your R800x your fastboot is disabled. That means your bootloader is still locked.

I appreciate the suggestions, really, I do, but I think you're kinda missing my point here. Whether the bootloader remains locked or not is not the issue at the moment.
The official sony instructions I followed when I unlocked it had me put the device into fastboot mode. It worked great. But now, specifically, step 12 no longer works.
ALSO, my phone won't boot, which is the actual problem I'm having at the moment.
So, my phone won't boot, AND my phone can't connect to fastboot in order to flash a new kernel or whatever else I might need to do to unbrick my phone. The ONLY thing that works right now is flashtool. Flashing the stock Verizon FTF with flashtool did not remedy the situation.
Does anyone know how I can get my phone back up and running?

It is not possible to relock your bootloader in most cases, but this may be worth trying. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134334 There is a link to an ftf file you can possibly flash to relock the bootloader then reflash back to stock.
If that fails, chances are you have a damaged bootloader and/or TA (trim area) due to the failed update. This link may help you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252019
Here is another link as well by wedgess, I think he uses the same method as in the link above. They will both most likely log into your computer using team viewer to resolve your suspected TA/bootloader issue. Read the entire thread, but wedgess's post is #27 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957328&page=3 . Good Luck...

Have you tried flashing a different ftf? I have the R800at, and I couldn't unlock my bootloader until I flashed a generic R800a ftf. I reflashed to the AT&T R800at after the bootloader was unlocked - no problems. Think you could flash an R800i ftf just to get back to a bootable state and then flash the Verizon R800x ftf?

Yeah, I posted it more for reference than a solution...hoping it may let him know why flashtool can't fix the problem. The problem is most certainly the TA which is why I posted the other links.
Fixed.
I flashed "Xperia 2011 Range_FreeXperial_ALL.ftf" upon the suggestion of alejandrissimo. Rebooted, and in fastboot as I type this.
Thanks to everyone for their input, but the real thanks go to alejandrissimo for the solution.

Sony Xperia S Bootloader unlock Problem

Hi all,
I've got the Sony Xperia S and unlocked the bootloader and rooted it once and flashed it with the AOKP, but that didn't work, so I tried the Cyanogenmod 10.0 (Jelly Bean). In summary I think it was the wrong Combination of kernel and custom rom, because it didnt boot anymore and got stuck at the logo.
So I closed the bootloader again and installed the official stock rom from Sony, and all got fine, luckily.
With some more reading into right forums and better knowledge I got the right custom rom and kernel and tried to unlock the bootloader again, but suddenly it didnt work.
Message: Failed (remote: oem unlock 0xF (und noch mehr F) )
I did all with fastboot and the right adb drivers, the phone is installed correctly.
Yesterday I asked for my problem in a shop and the guy said, that the bootloader of any Sony device would close completely, if the (right or wrong) unlock code is used for too many times (like the limit of 10 times).
If he's right, I've got a big problem. But can't I open it with an alternatvie method? Or is there just any mistake?
Thanks for any answer
Chriszo
i dont know, but ive already relocked and unlocked many times without error ,
try to do it again and be sure to input the correct 0xKEY
CM10 contains it's own kernel so could never be a wrong combination of rom and kernel. Did you actually unlock the bootloader or just root the phone? Sounds like your bootloader was locked and you were trying to flash still
Sent from my 4.2.2 Xperia S via Tapatalk
Thanks for the answers.
I don't still know what constellation I really tried to instal the kernel and firmware, but I think it was an advanced stock kernel and then the firmware of the aokp. After that I tried the Cyanogenmod, but the device just didnt boot, there was only the logo.
I remember to have taken the kernel named ics17.elf and the advanced stock kernel with the official 4.0.55 build number.
The the device was rooted and the "sd card" was not wiped, but the data of the apps were deleted.
So the bootloader was open because the kernel can't be flashed with a locked bootloader.
After that I flashed the aokp and then the cyanogen mod.
Because of no booting I relocked the bootloader and installed the official firmware from sony.
Since then I try to unlock the bootloader with this damn error
I try to unlock with another computer. Maybe it work and its a simple solution. To unlock my bootloader i need to use my wife´s laptop.... i try in my compputer many times, install drivers, uninstall, and a lot of tricks but fastboot give me "error" all the times... lol
I just chatted and called with the Sony support (nice to hear great english at the phone ) and again got to hear, that they aren't able or allowed to give any information about the bootloader because of the possibility to loose the warranty of the phone.
I dont know really where my problem is but I think the code is not working any more, although I cant imagine of that
Is there any other way to do that? Or do I just do a stupid mistake ???
Thanks
Chris

Another guy on xda did it with FlashTool on locked bootloader. I was able to do it until the logo...
Apparently you only can flash roms I think, not?
Anyway Sony supports Open Developer Community as well, they give you info about bootloader here:
unlockbootloader.sonymobile[dot]com
No, I cant flash any rom, therefore I need an unlocked bl. And the stock rom from sony isnt available in the internet, just with the Sony-mobile-update-service.
Well, of course I tried the way Sony dicribes on this webside, as explained below -.-
Got the solution ??
Hey I have the same exact problem and i did the same things as you did ... did get a solution?? please inform me if you did.....
