[Q] Titanium Backup says no root - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So I unlocked, rooted and flashed 4.0.4 last night (for the first time) and I installed Titanium Backup, but it says that it doesnt have root access, is it possible that I could have unlocked and flashed without rooting properly? I have the SuperUser app installed but no apps show in the list....

YOU LOST ROOT WHEN YOU WENT UP TO IT
HAPPENED TO ME TOO. I WAS FLUSTERED FOR A FEW DAYS BECAUSE MY SWISS ARMY KNIFE TOOL WASNT READY FOR RE ROOTING 4.0.4

THATLL HELP YOU QUICKLY GET ROOT BACK FOR 4.0.4 IN UNDER 5 MINS...

Try force stopping TiBU and then open it again; sometimes it gets confused.

thanks i'll have to give that a try when I get home, this isnt what I originally used to root/unlock is that ok? I used this one

Sorry for the caps. Left a website where I always post with em on
But easiest way to know you lost root is to try and update superuser. If it says failed...

Nope, seems I no longer have root access, I downloaded root checker from the app store and it says no root access on the phone.

Every OTA update disables root access. You need to re-root after every OTA update...

[Q] Can I root without factory reset?

Yes, I know...the answers are all in the forum. But those threads are pages and pages and pages and I just need someone to tell me if I'm on the right track.
Soon I'm going to have to have my Evo replaced because the USB port is loose and I assume it is eventually going to break completely. I would like to...
1 - root
2 - titanium backup
3 - factory reset
4 - get new phone
5 - root
6 - restore
My goal is to switch phones and not have to reinstall everything and redo all my settings. Am I on the right track?
I planned to use the 3-click root app that I found here on the forums, btw.
You can root without a reset and losing your data. I was able to use unrevoked 3.32. In my case I wanted to root but not flash a new ROM so I did not need or want to clear my data in the process.
I'm confused...Unrevoked's web site says it doesn't work on stock Froyo. Does that mean my Sprint Evo? Or do they mean if you have literally a stock Froyo, i.e. no HTC Sense?
Use z4root.
Download the app from the xda thread, it is not in the market. click temporary root. you will have a limited root access until next reboot. Use titanium backup. reboot phone, uninstall z4root. make sure to remove all files from SD card before bringing the phone to the sprint store.
I used the info here:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/unrevoked3
If you have a stock Sprint Evo this should work for you. I have not tried it on an Evo running the latest OTA update but it should work. My Evo was a HW 0003 with Build 3.30.651.3 and HBOOT 2.02 and it worked fine. I was able to root and then install Titanium Backup to backup all of my data. I also made a Nandroid backup of the entire ROM before I did any experimenting. I still have not flashed a new ROM although I have experimented with some kernels. I still have my data on my phone at it exited before I rooted.
I would think you should be able to root, backup your data, and restore that data to another phone.
I also agree that z4root would work for you if you just want to do a backup of your data. This would save you from the trouble of unrooting before your exchange your phone.
What makes the z4root temporary?
z4root achieves root access in a way that allows you do things that require root access without making any permanent changes to your phone. Once you will have root access until you reboot. This would allow you to install Titanium Backup (and busybox) and get a backup. You could then uninstall busybox, Titanium, and z4root and cleanup before the exchange.

awesome. thanks to everyone for the quick answers.
ok so one last question. can I remove Sprint bloatware while it's temporarily rooted with z4root?
I'm pretty sure that you can not. And also sprint would know you were f-ing with the phone if all the bloat was missing.
Yes. You should be able to remove preinstalled applications while you have temporary root. You can also use Titanium for that. This is the only mod that I have done to my stock Evo after rooting. Obvously you would only want to do that the the new phone.
I used Root Explorer and simply moved the unwanted apps to my sdcard so I could restore them later if I wanted them back or if I caused a problem by removing an app.
I did not used z4root but I understand that you can do anything with temporary root access that you would normally do with permnanant root except flash custom roms, recoveries and kernels. If you want to remain stock or just remove bloat this is a good way to go. You should even be able to run apps like Wireless Tether, etc tis way... you just have to get root again each time you reboot.

well that was for when I get the new phone. but thanks.
Hmmm... I just tried z4root my the wife's Evo (a bit newer than mine with the latest OTA) and it did not work. It told me that I had temp root but no program was able to get root access. Might have to do some more research.

Yes I just had the same problem. Installed z4root, ran it, it went through the steps in about 30 seconds, said I was temporarily rooted...but Titanium Backup says it can't get root priveleges.
Rebooted, tried z4root again...same result.
I uninstalled z4root, installed busybox, rebooted, installed z4root...still doesn't work. it says it works, but Titanium Backup and busybox both say it's not rooted.
actually busybox is not installed. it won't install without root privileges. seems like a catch 22 if you have to root to install something that is required in order to root in the first place.

[Q] root

I AM having troubles with my root.FIRST installed root keepper but it says 4.3 not supported and does not show a button to back up my root. Also it shows deviced rooted without a check mark, root permissions granted has check mark,/system supports root protection check mark, protected su copy available no check mark. Also tried the other root backup keeper with the same results.EVERY TIME I GO INTO RECOVERY IT TELLS ME I HAVE TO FIX ROOT I HIT THE FIX ROOT THING.REBOOT AND HAVE ROOT BUT NOW OF THE ROOT KEEPER PROGRAMS ARE WORKING.Any suggestions would be greatly apprecciated,Cause i am already tired of having to fix my root everytime i go into recovery. This is also happening on my sprint htc one after i ota 4.3.
Use chain fire auto root. Make sure to grab the right file. Ends with 900t or something. There are a couple of threads with all phones supported and their corresponding file.

Root without root issue.

Hi peeps, looked at rooting my nice new G3 and went in for the kill with towel root [emoji16] only to find out didn't support my version. Decided to go with purpledrake (not got there yet) found a couple of apps not working because of root which root checker says I don't have. My question is do I need to root now regardless even if only to unroot? To get things back to normal?

After rooting, did you install SuperSU?
Also, there's StumpRoot as a 3rd option.
That's just it. Towel root told me my phone wasn't supported and root checker says I don't have root, yet the app in question says I do so super user seems a bit pointless.

SuperSU is needed after you root to give apps root access. Try to install it, if it works, you're rooted and you can go along with your rooted apps.
Otherwise, try StumpRoot (Towel and Purple's didn't support my version either), install SuperSU and enjoy your root apps!
Tried to install it with no luck. Seems something's gone wrong somewhere.
Says I need to manually 're root of I just upgraded to android 4.3. As it can't install su binaries.

Time to give StumpRoot a shot then.
Yeah I think your right. The only issue left is the app I want to use fails when rooted and the root cloak module/app doesn't currently support it [emoji20]
Edit:
Well i tried stump root and got nowhere [emoji20] looking like purple is my only way forward. And if i want to use that particular app then root, unroot is the only way forward. [emoji45]

FULLY unroot

Hi,
Does anyone know if this phone can be fully UN-rooted so apps like Barclays Bank app and Pingit can work on it?
Supersu unroot doesn't work nor do Hide Root stuff.
Mine was pre-loaded with Eragon ROM by the Ebayer who I got it from which in general was a good thing.
In the meantime, I've put it back to stock.
Can anyone install Pingit app on this phone? (you don't need a Barclays account or anything... just try and install it and it detects root).
Thanks.
Hmm no replies to this one.
OK, can someone confirm to me whether the P8000 is FULLY unrooted when it's new? The hardware is great so I'm thinking of getting the Vowney but not if Elephone mobiles are rooted from the start.
I know it's all about rooting and putting custom ROMs but it's annoying when some apps you NEED (like banking) won't run on them.
Can someone who hasn't done anything to their P8000 check for me please? Just download the Barclays Pingit app and try to install it. If it installs, it's fully unrooted.
Thanks.
You can install the Stock Firmware with so Flashtool soul be unrooted then

Certainly with my P8000 and many others from comments in this forum, the phone came with some of the necessary root files/binaries installed. To root all that was necessary for me was to install SuperSU from the Play store.

Yeah, my hope is to fully UN-root the phone (so it's NOT rooted). There are certain apps like Barclays Banking and Pingit apps that won't install if it even sniffs that it's been rooted.
So, the guy I got the phone from put Eragon OS on it for me. So it must have got rooted then.
I've flashed it myself following the instructions on the official Elephone site using the Flashtool and put the latest Stock Rom on (complete with malware!) but it is still classified as ROOTED.
Root Checker says: Root access is not properly installed on this device.
My other phone (LG G Flex 2) is DEFINITELY not rooted and it comes up with the same 'not properly installed' as well but is ok with Barclays apps.
If I flashed the stock back on, should I theoretically be fully unrooted (obviously not...). What do I need to do to FULLY unroot it please?

Nope, I've literally just flashed it with the latest stock ROM (20151105). No virus in this one!
Barclays apps still think it's rooted.
Sorry for asking noob questions but Root doesn't survive Flashing does it?
Try checking with root checker app from playstore
Yeah I said in the previous post:
Root Checker says the same on my definitely UNROOTED LG G FLex 2 and on my Stock Rom P8000 which I've just flashed.
Root access is not properly installed on this device.
Barclays Bank app works fine on my Flex but root is detected on the P8000 saying it's rooted.
So is it possible to TOTALLY UN-ROOT the phone? UN-ROOT. Not Root. UN-ROOT.
Download es file manager ,go to system check sbin, xbin and bin folders for su files and delete them if you find any

Interesting...
So, for example, in the xbin folder I have:
sugote
sugote-mksh
supolicy
daemonsu
BIN folder has:
superumount
There's no sbin folder.
You mean I should delete ANYTHING that has the letters SU in those folders?
When the P8000 is flashed with the stock rom using the FlashTool, what does it do? Does it blat EVERYTHING on the phone or does it leave something somewhere to indicate it's been rooted before?
If it does wipe EVERYTHING and it sets the phone back to how it would be when it's shipped from Elephone, it does indicate that there is some sort of ROOT (files or whatever) to make some apps complain.
Surely there is SOMEONE here who can tell me whether their P8000 is FULLY UNROOTED or not (by trying to install the Pingit app).
I'm almost a fan of buying these generic, no brand China phones cos they're ridiculously cheap and fast but if they're pre-rooted (in some form), they're not much use since you can't run certain apps on them (especially if no-one knows how to UNROOT them). The Elephone Vowney looks so desirable!
Go to system>xbin and see if su file is on your phone and try deleting just the file with the name su and no other files
Nope, no file called SU in there.
So, my question now is:
Eragon ROM WAS put on this phone.
I've now flashed it with stock ROM.
Should it now be UN-rooted? Or at least, as much as it was when it leaves the factory? (obviously it's not EXACTLY the same because the Stock ROM I flashed is much newer).
OR, are Elephone ALWAYS rooted (either half or fully... enough to trip up certain apps)?
I know that if you get phones like OnePlus One, which had a 'custom' ROM (CM), it was still fully un-rooted (ie you can use banking apps on it).
try simply unroot app
It always works for me
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.pinpong.simplyunroot
Hehe I'm interested to see what happens here.
Root Checker says it's unrooted (or it says it's not properly rooted - which isn't necessarily the same.. although that's what it says on my Flex 2 which is DEFINITELY not rooted).
Barclays bank app says it's rooted.
I need to root the device to use the Simply Unroot app.
What are the chances this is going to work..... I know it's only £0.68 but.....
I'll give it a go when I get home!
Thanks.
Nope, Simply Unroot didn't work although I didn't have much hope.
What's the explanation for this kind of thing... where it's flashed with stock rom and apps can tell it's rooted (even Root Checker says it's unrooted).

By the way, the guy who sells Simply Unroot is VERY VERY VERY helpful.
Really nice guy.
He spent a lot of time trying to sort this out for me. In the end, we were unable to get Barclays app to run.
Root Checker and Simply Unroot both thought the phone was unrooted but Barclays apps thinks it is rooted.
Anyway, the point is, even after all his help, he gave me a refund.
5 stars for the developer for his support!
Sounds like a problem with the Barclay's app

how to HTC Desire 526 temp root without pc

*Update*
Make sure you go into Settings/App Manager and Disable all Verizons App except the Mobile login and My Verizon Mobile app.
Easy way to do is type in the search for vzw, disable all of vzw apps. Then search for Verizon and disable all of Verizons related app except the two mentioned.Verizons bloatware seem to be the problem that prevents us to get tempt root.

1.Download KingRoot app and install it
2.Run the app, it will show theres no root method availabe, still try to root it anyways.
3. As soon as the rooting starts(percentage page going up) hit the home key so the app will run in the background.eek:therwise rooting will not work.
4.Wait for 2 minutes then click on the KingApp again, it might take a few tries and voila! Temp root.
*Note*
1.make sure you have usb debugging enabled in Developer Option:good:
2.Bootloader is still locked so you will lose your root after any reboot.Sunshine is not sucessful in unlocking it rightnow.Maybe if we have a boot.img thats already unlocked we can flash it with Flashify app.:crying:
3. All root app works great, just cant modify any system files cause of temp root.

Okay so the temp root can do what? Will root worthy apps detect the root and work up until a reboot??? if that's the case then the painfully annoying time spent to "re-temp root" the phone will be enough for me until KingRoot finds a way to successfully root the phone. :good:
If you get me temp root I can get perm root.
This temp root method isn't working for me
You have to keep doing it a few time.Im doing this even with the StageFright update. Once you get it the first time, everytime after that will work.It seems like Kingroot remember its exploit. Temp root will let you do things like running GameGuardian to cheat android games. Basically thats all I use tempt root for.
*Note*
Remember to run Kingroot rooting process in the backgroun only. Otherwise it will not work. As soon as you hit the root method, hit the homekey. Go use your phone as normal and then come back to the app, voila tempt root. It will ask you to fix the root binaries ,which means it works.
I also have full root but resets on reboot...
I'm not 100% sure but if the root resets after reboot then it's a temp root right?
Yeah. It's annoying.. I'd love to mod a little but it's been years since I dabbled. Full root would be fantastic. I've been looking for a solid solution that preferably doesn't require any help from a PC..
Hey Can u do and update on it because it's one work now in 2018
