Charger? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was wondering where I can get a charger that will work with the galaxy Nexus, I lost mine and I want to get one in a store for a cheap price. Any suggestions?
Phone: Galaxy Nexus
ROM: GummyNex

Any micro USB charger will work fine.

My parents don't, they have an lg cosmos touch and it doesn't charge it... Any ideas on where I can get one that will charge my phone?
Phone: Galaxy Nexus
ROM: GummyNex
Kernel: Franco

I've used a lot of chargers with my Galaxy with no problem (old Samsung i7500, HTC, Blackberry, 1st gen Nook). And the cheapo car charger I have works just fine too.
If you go to one of those kiosks in the mall that have the cheapo chargers, see if you can test it out before you purchase it.

I've tried using most brands of cables, since I have so many laying around, it seems for the most part LG chargers are the only cables that have problems with the GNexus

OEM works best

Any plug that says Output 5.0V should charge the phone. Voltage needs to match exactly. The wall charger adapter that came with my phone has an output of 5.0V/1.0A.
I have an old LG micro usb wall plug that outputs 5.1V/0.7A (does not work). I think I remember that the phone I got it for wouldn't charge on my laptop(which would have been a 5.0V/0.5A), so I guess they pulled a fast one and customized it so you needed to buy wall chargers instead of just using laptops etc to charge it on the go.
Be aware that if you get anything <1.0A the phone will charge slower than it would on the original plug.

My Blackberry charger only charges my GNEX to 95%. I use it because it's 3' long and I can lay in bed and fiddle with my phone while its on the charger. I have to plug it into the 'shorter' OEM charger to get a 100% charge.

[Q] Can't charge with other microUSB cables?

Hey All
Just got my VZW Galaxy Nexus and am loving it. When I first connected the phone to the computer, I used my old HTC Incredible microUSB cable to connect. I realized this was silly, as I hadn't installed the drivers yet. So I pulled the cable and installed the drivers. Upon reconnecting, I couldn't get anything to register. No charging, no data... I tried uninstalling the drivers, restarting both the computer and the phone and still nothing. The phone would no longer register that it was even being plugged in. I grabbed the cable it came with and it worked fine. That is the only cable that will actually charge the phone. I can plug it into any USB charger, and as long as i use that cable, the phone will charge. Additionally, it is the only cable that I can use to connect the phone to the computer. I tried other old cables, but none work. All chargers and computers work with that nexus cable, but none of the other cables work. Any thoughts on this? Is this an amperage issue through the cable? Why would data connection no longer work and why did it work the first time?
Thanks for your thoughts!

I've had a similar experience, tried the charger from my droid OG, and it didn't work. Plugged in the old droid, still charges, new cable charges fine though. Weird, huh?
yea i tried to charge it with my usb cable in my car that i've used for all my htc phones but it didn't charge
Using a charger from a galaxy S here without any problems. Haven't tried connecting to a PC though.

Having the exact same issues and getting worried...This morning I plugged in and it said charging. Now, even using samsung plug it doesn't say "Charging". The cord appears to be charging but the OS doesn't say so.
At home I use the AC charger that came with my Nokia N97 mini: no probs. At work I charge with a cheap brandless USB cable plugged into my laptop: no probs.
Ok, I guess I'm going hunting for a working cable. My friends Orig. Droid cable works so I might trade out with him...might not mean anything, but the cables that work have slits cut in the forward facing part of the microUSB, and the ones that will not charge do not. This may be an issue of my available sample, but perhaps there is something else going on here? Just jabbing in the dark here...
I'm now using my Nokia CA-101D MicroUSB cable (with an extender, because the single cable is long only 10 cm) with my PC and it works perfectly.
The original Samsung cable that come in the box is always into che AC USB adapter, to recharge de GNEX on night.
Interesting. I had an old Motorola Charger (one piece unit, not separate charger and USB cable) that would't charge my Galaxy Nexus. However, I have used a Kindle 3G charger and Blackberry charger that have both charged it without a problem. I figured that for chargers that separate the cable and AC adapater it would be the problem with the adapter and not the actual cable but I could be wrong.
I did read on another forum that newer devices with bigger screens like the Nexus can't take a charge from older chargers because of the makeup and power use of the newer devices.
I was thinking some companies switch the pin-outs of their cables/ports so you can't buy a normal cable and have it work....I could be totally off base though.
Mine works on 4 different cables on two different boxes. Haven't even opened the one that came with it yet.
Working here on a GSM/HSPA GN on ANY Micro USB Cable.
You guys not working are you with a Verizon Galaxy Nexus?
Oddly enough, I've used my old Incredible cable (perhaps it was my Thunderbolt one, though) with no problems. I'm on the Verizon Nexus if that makes a difference.

Using OG Droid usb for data transfer and an old LG usb to charge overnite. No problems. I haven't even unpacked the nexus one yet.
there are no special cables.. they all have the same pin out, the only reason why some work and others dont in cars, is based on the actual charger itself.
if you have a cig charger with a usb female port, you have to rig it to work, the middle 2 pins are shorted out with foil/tape and it'll work
if you have a full cigarette with cable unit, nothing you can do about those, they either work or not (mid 2 are shorted on build/factory)
i use any old 1A-1.5A usb cig charger, then short the 2 middle pins using ANY cable (i am using bb cable) and it works fine.. even did it with several cables and chargers for friends so we didnt have to spend no stinkin $10-15 bucks for a charger
all this bs is really a way to control the market of accessories, making you buy new ones that are shorted out sine the old ones arent and wont charge
I went on eBay and bought a spare set of 5V 1A home and car plugs, those seem to work great.

I got a htc incredible cable that depending on my rom either only does charging or I can transfer pics etc. odd ball phone. it wont do a odin without failing. for stuff like that I think all cables have an extra pin for their phone model used for firmware.

USB Wall Charger

Hey guys,
I was wondering if you guys knew of a good replacement for the samsung wall charger. I lost mine and I want to get a replacement wall charger that pumps out at 1A or whatever the original one was. Thanks for the help guys!
I'd stick with the Samsung original, it charges so fast! In less than two hours back to full battery, I've substituted using other chargers that comes with other phones at work and it's definitely slower

Here's the extra one I ordered, works just as good as the one that came with my phone, they seem to be identical

I like to use motorola's chargers, you can find them on amazon: "Motorola micro USB charger". They're more or less identical to the samsung ones besides the more rectangular form factor. I also recommend the motorola car charger if you're in the market for that. Both are quick charge and fill a dead battery in 1-2 hours.

[Q] What's it take to charge this thing?

I just switched from a Revolution to a Gnex and apparently it takes a different charger or cable to charge correctly. I have 4 different chargers, all of which worked fine with the Revolution and still work fine with my wife's Moto Droid. I have an OEM Moto Droid charger, LG Revolution charger, Monoprice charger, and one other generic charger. They all output 1A (1000mAh). I've also tried every combination of OEM and aftermarket cables I have. All of them will charge if I have the phone off, and some if I just have the screen of, but will take all night. But on all of them, if I have the screen on and doing anything it will actually discharge even though it shows it is charging AC. The kicker is, I can have it on full brightness, streaming Bluetooth over LTE on the car charger and it charges like a beast! So the question is, what do I need to get in terms of charger and cable to get full charging potential?
Odd. Mine charges with any old charger. Works with my old HTC Desire charger, Samsung charger from a old Samsung jet, Xperia x10 charger, motorola defy charger, computer USB and pretty much anything I find laying in the office. Seems odd you can't one of them to work... could be a fault or you have awful luck.

Works for me with the Samsung cable, HTC Evo 4G cable, Samsung wall socket, Apple wall socket, USB to computer, USB to XBOX, etc..
Hmm, I figured just about any of them should work. I was going crazy last night trying different chargers and cables. I've seen some talk about special cables and grounded pins on car chargers, does any of that matter for wall chargers?
I have the same issue can't use a charger to a Droid x or Droid 3 when I connect it it does nothing

I tried 6 different chargers, and only the one that came with it worked. I had to buy a Samsung one from amazon, and they shipped me two. Both of those worked fine. I think some of them are just picky. I also got a Motorola car charger to work, so I think all car chargers work.

I'm sorry, but this is just not true. The OEM Motorola Droid charger outputs 850mA, not 1A. I have 3 Original OEM Motorola Droid wall chargers and all 3 are the same 850mA rated.
I'm able to charge with my original Nexus One wall charger and car charger and keep pace, even at full brightness, etc. I use either that or the stock wall charger for full charging, but my understanding is the same as yours: USB downvolts charging power so if it shows status of Charging (USB), you might not keep pace. Which is absurd, but there you have it.

Man, you can't get away with anything around here! You are correct, the Droid charger outputs 850mAh. I double checked the others and they are 1A. I'm going to order a couple of the highest rate Samsung chargers on Amazon and see if they make a difference.

Efficient enough car charger.

Hi guys.
I have a problem finding good car charger for my phone while in car.
I either use sygic sat nav or Google maps but on top of that I stream music either via Google music or di.fm app.
Problem starts when I start streaming. My battery slowly drops down about 1% per 15min. I've tried various car chargers that have either 1amp, 2.1 amp and even dual 3.5amp they don't do the job. Only my HTC 1amp charger manages to hold the charge but it doesn't charge on top of that.
Any ideas and suggestions?

I bought the car charger from Amazon HERE earlier this year and it has worked out awesome. I usually leave it in my car but also makes a great wall charger for when you need it in a pinch and didnt bring your own. Its 17 (I got free shipping since I have Amazon Prime) and well worth it since I dont think I ever have to buy another car charger again for any device I own. Even charges my tablet.
Genuine Motorola rapid car charger, simply the best. Charges like a wall charger, seriously, phone says it's plugged into AC power

In some roms like Slim ICS you can make the USB charge as fast as a wall charger!
I use a rocketfish 1a charger from bestbuy and it charges while using navigation and streaming.

I use a 1A HTC charger and never had any issues. Are you sure your cigarette lighter is working properly? It sounds like all of these chargers you've tried are charging at less than 1A.
I think 1 amp is about all it will do. It will have a hard time keeping up if you are using it a lot. I have the htc car charger and it seems to keep up for me but actually getting a decent charge while using it will be hard.

not all 1a chargers actually charge at 1a. it depends on if the two middle pins are shorted together or not.
this charger is cheap as hell - 3 bucks - and charges at a full 1a. i use it and it works perfectly.

I noticed this too, using a Kensington USB charger in the car. On my drive out to Phoenix, I noticed that having Navigation running while plugged in caused the battery to drain.
I also noticed that running Torque sucks the battery down as well. I stopped at a gas station that had a ton of gadgets, so I bought another off-brand USB adapter that stated its output is 1.5A. I also picked up the OEM extended battery at a VZW store while out there. It doesn't drain as fast now, but it does still drain a bit.
Motorola
Absolutely go for the motorola charger. I use it everytime in car, it's a 1A charger, has a nice blue light and can charge your phone even when using navigation.
And on top of that it's also cheap. I bought it in boundle with a motorola wall charger @ 10€.
is it this one guys http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Motorol...846874?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2a1ea6619a
Make shift cable.
If you're super cheap and/or like to DIY, I was able to get my Galaxy Nexus to recognize any USB charger as AC by cutting a USB extension cable in half. I then soldered/twisted the green and white wires within the USB cable together and then I soldered the red to red and black to black. By putting the modified USB extension in between the charger and a USB to Micro USB cable it will force the phone to recognize the charger as AC instead of USB. I sealed up my adapter with some White and Green heat-shrink tubing I had lying around so it would be easy to identify. Same thing can be done to a USB to Micro-USB cable if you want.

Replacement usb charging cable?

Bought a pre-owned N7 today but it's missing the official usb charging cable. Don't suppose there's a cheap solution? The Asus shop only sells the cable and adapter together and it's rather pricey here in Ireland.
I know there are cheap non official cables you can get but I'm not sure whether they will just cause more problems.
Help! Thank you!

i am going to tell you right now that that suggestion is not good. A while back, i bought 4 OEM LG cables to charge my devices, including my nexus. The cables charge all of my devices other than the Nexus. below this is a link that i posted on amazon to some cables that i have indeed bought and can confirm work with no issues with the nexus 2013 revision.

best of luck
All cables are NOT the same.
From one to the other you can go from .48 amps to 1.1 amps depending. I've seen some output zero on one devise and .44 on another. Get yourself a little monitor to test those cables. Also you might want to get a dumb cable that only charges vs. a smart cable that charges and syncs.

You do not need any special device to test the cables as you suggest. There are two apps I use to test the current flow on my nexus to determine which Micro USB Cables charge it the fastest. The apps are Current Widget and Battery Monitor. Don't need both but both can be used for the purpose of seeing how fast your phone is being charged.
I have many cables I have tried and found that OEM cables do work best for charging, for after market cables I own, the mono price thin Micro USB cables work the best on my nexus 7. I also have amazon basics USB cables but those do not charge well enough. I have a nexus 7 and a moto x currently, so when I can I use the moto x OEM cable with my nexus 7 and any cable with the moto x (the moto x has some kind of optimized charging ability and I have found it charges well enough regardless of cable, but the nexus 7 needs the right cable to charge at a good rate)
Thanks for all the replies....I knew I was asking a valid question. One day my N7 2012 just stopped charging with the supplied ASUS cable. Luckily I had a Samsung travel adapter lying around which it didn't seem to mind! Thanks for the Amazon links but unfortunately I'm not in the States (Ireland).
My Asus cable went bad on me within the first 2 weeks of me buying my tablet (new). I used an old HTC cable with the Asus wall charger for a while, then went with a Qi wireless charger. Much better than factory, now. That's my suggestion to you as well, just go with a Qi charger and be done with wires!

Just get a few micro-usb cables on eBay...
Have you guys found any cables that work with the OEM charger? I broke my original cable, and it seems that all my other cables have too much plastic shielding around the USB port to go into the slot. I have ordered a Monoprice cable and I was wondering if anyone has used this with the OEM charger
I have not had any problems with charging using my various mixed brands of micro usb cables. I have a dedicated 5 port usb charger capable of outputting a max of 2 amps per port and all seems fine. The only problem I've run into is one of my portable chargers seems to not like the N7.
Every single ASUS charger cable I have owned has failed more than once..
They are made cheaply but they charge a fortune for them..
You can find a cheap, but higher grade cable if you look in Amazon or eBay..
Just check what is the maximum Amps it can take..
I go through cords every day.. The ASUS cables failed the fastest..
