Been using Blackice1.27/cm7 for a week or two and really loving it, just have a couple of questions about the camera if anyone knows the answers.
The thing that put me off Cyanogenmod about a year ago was the camera app. I'm fine with it now and actually prefer it to the MIUI one (I like being able to bind the power button to take pictures) but, the MIUI app automatically takes 'wide' shots but doesn't say the MP whereas cm7 app says 8MP, 6MP (wide), 4MP etc.
Is the MIUI camera app taking 8MP (wide)?
Is there any way to make the Cyanogenmod app take 8MP (wide)?
Does 8MP (wide) exist!?
How does it compare to the sense camera? (MP? Wide or not Wide?)
Thank you for your time
So seeing as no one has an answer I did some digging. Sorry if this is old info but I found it interesting.
Although the DHD supposedly has an 8MP camera the software you get with it only takes 6.3MP pictures. I reflashed my original Froyo 2.2 to check and on the 8MP setting it takes 3264x1952 the same as the 'high' setting on MIUI.
3264x1952 = 6.3MP
So stock and MIUI both actually only take 6MP pictures. Cm7 takes true 8MP (3264x2448).
Again I'm sorry if this is old news, its new news to me, I think it's really bad that people buy an 8MP camera phone that only takes 6MP photos. I'm not to bothered about the quality of the picture as 6mp is fine it more the false advertising...
Try CameraZoomFX

Some people say that certain kernels will change the MP out put of your camera from 8mp to 3mp...is that true? If so how do you tell what your camera is outputting in picture quality?

Almost all of the newer, actively developed kernels have completely eliminated this. You can tell because the images will be about half the size/quality of normal pics. You can see whether or not the mp is available in the camera options, also.

Thanks for the response. I checked the size of one of my photos and its what it should be for 8mp. Thanks again!
Is there another market camera app or something else to replace the one on CM7? I cant shut off the camera click noise and there is no tap to focus and a few other things.
I for one would like to have the HTC camera app on CM7, but I doubt it will happen due to the possible framework differences.
I was looking for exactly the same thing. Installed CM7RC2, and the only thing I've found lacking was the camera app, which just doesn't come close to the one on the stock HTC rom.
I've just tried out Camera360, and been looking at reviews for Camera ZOOM FX, but both seem to be focused on applying a wide range of effects rather than improving the actual process of taking a photo. To my knowledge, neither had tap-to-focus.
Anyone know of a different app that might do the job a little better?
You can try the MIUI Camera app. The only problem is it doesn't have the ffc, but it's so much better than the stock CM7 one.

I'm trying to figure out how to install the MIUI one and keep the stock one (to use the ffc when I need to).
I use vignette.. Set the resolution to 8M and superfine quality.. Man, that thing takes a photo at 4mb.. Really good image quality.. Definitely first choice..

Second vote for Vignette; costs a couple of pounds and is well worth the price. A ton of brilliant effects, and the image quality without effects is outstanding. I don't think I've used the HTC camera app once since I got this.

Since megapixels don't mean much when taking a picture with a camera, is there anything in dev / on the market that will improve the quality of the GNex camera? I love this phone so much, but the Camera makes me a bit sad. I know Cyanogen and Co. worked wonders on the Camera for my G2 and G1 back in the day.
Anything like that (changing ISO, and other options) for the GNex right now - without flashing an entire ROM?
Hey all,
I have a question about how the cm10.1 camera is working on my phone. I have the GS3 i747, and it is running the stable version of cm 10.1.
-Is there a better way to use the HDR function on the camera? The 3 different pictures taken are very slow, so no matter how still i am, the picture is always blurry. Is there a better camera i could use? for example Camera JB+?
thanks and let me know
Something I have wanted since ditching my iPhone 4S..
HDR is substantially better quality photos for still and even perfectly timed moving shots (takes practice, but is possible).
Hello everyone,
I've been trying out a few camera apps and on two of them it showed the MP my camera was on and they both said 3.2 instead of the 5 mp it should normally be.. One of the apps is ProCapture, I've been messing around with the settings a bit, but i can't seem to get it to 5 mp?
I'm really confused and I wonder how I can fix this?
Cheers

You have to buy the full version for full resolution. I know that the ProCapture free version is just a demo with limited res so you can see all the feature but at low res.
(According the the apps info. I haven't bought the full version so I can't confirm it will be 5mp but safe to assumed it will be)

Note that the default 16:9 ratio doesn't use the full sensor and is 3.7mp. switching wide-screen off give the 'full' 5mp.
Ok, thanks alot guys. Are there any camera apps you use that you find give you "better" or sharper quality pictures? Because with my stock camera it seems to be a bit random..
