[Q] MARVELC ROMS: A myth? - HTC Wildfire S

I noticed there are a lot of ROMs posted here for MARVEL but not seeing any for MARVELC. From what I can tell it's that nobody fixes a kernel to support both the device and the ROM.
Also I'm guessing the MARVELC users are a minority in the Wildfire S ROM community otherwise there'd more ROMs or at least a kernel compatible with MARVELC devices available with these ROMs.
All I have found so far is talk about eventually being MARVELC supported in the Unofficial CM7 port and reference to an alpha version with MARVELC support. Though nothing on either from this year.
Only thing I can find are stock ROMs posted by Rob (insink71), and a closed beta of a Euro RUU port he's also doing (I'd offer to test, but can't post to dev forum).
So am I missing something or are there no custom ROMs for MARVELC owners?

Yeah Marvelc seems to be the minority in my opinion. We do have some people working on things but they aren't going as fast as the Marvel development since we don't have as many people. I think .sense 3.5 supports marvel, marvelc, and marvelct.

No, you are correct. There are no custom ROMs for the Marvelc WFS.
Rob is about the only one developing for the Marvelc platform. All his ROMs are stock, with a2sd to help out with the WFS limited internal storage. I do recommend getting the one for your carrier. (The MetroPCS ROM is on Android-Forums, in case that's the one ya need.)
Rob is currently building a universal 2.3.5 stock (for all Marvelc users on any carrier) ROM being built from the MetroPCS RUU, but its still being worked on and isn't quite ready for testing.
Myself, I don't care if Cyanogen ever gets ported to Marvelc. While its a great ROM, I had it on my Optimus M and my Kindle Fire and found that while it is feature rich, unless the phone gets official CM, 70% of those features never work. So ill stick with stock base for stability.
I just hate Sense. Give me stock+Sense-less+a2sd, I'm happy.

You could have bought the Galaxy Ace, cause it's senseless.

its funny because the cdma/a510c was the first to get unlocked boot loader but there are far more gsm users because they are on a plan...as we are on pay as you go/ metro as well

Well, actually me and rob (insink) are team marvelusc. We are working on alot of cdma development. Currently i have a bugless speedy stock rom, with overclock kernel and theoretical data speed improvements. We are still working on CM7, although its a slow moving train. I just got back from having no pc, so im ready to start deving again. Expect alot for the marvelc coming

Wow sounds good! Thanks!

KERNEL][MARVELC][A510c] 2.6.35 Jmz Wildfire S OC Kernel 18FEB12
Both working great.

Actually I just got it to boot but didn't like it because of the android.phone process closing notification all the time. As soon as I get 10 posts, I'm going to post on that thread. And yes, I'm using Marvelc (VMUSA)

I just updated last night.the rom is
bugless and everything works.we are the only ROM with this set of features and we even enabled HTC stock USB tether.find aROM with that

I think the problem is MetroPCS doesn't like their phones missing certain apps. I removed their Easy WiFi app to install the version that came in the FOTA update the other day and couldn't use my WiFi till I put the new version on. Which I thought weird since I set the connection up through the phone's WiFi settings, not their app.

Gingerbread on rooted phone

Ok dumb question but how would you go about upgrading to gingerbread on a rooted phone?! I can't seem to find the answer anywhere & I'm scared when the time comes I won't know how.

I assume you haven't rooted?
You'd have to flash (install) a ROM that's based off of Gingerbread. Right now, there are only two or three of those
I have rooted & flashed myns warm. that's what I'm worried about..or my question I guess. How would I get gingerbread on my rooted phone.

Like would I update through Sprint or is it something I have to do manually?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Manually or wait until they push it out officially.
Using my HTC Evo phone which I'm using Xda app to post
At the moment you would have to do it manually. As far a I am aware the few roms that are available are not yet completely stable, and not all the features are working. Cyanogen is working on CM7/gingerbread, but has not released a build. Sounds like they're getting close though, as he tweeted he's using it as his daily driver.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
there are 3 Gingerbread ROMs in the Android Development forum thus far. They're all in Alpha or early Beta forms currently, and for most people are not stable or feature-full enough to be daily users.
If you're new to rooting I'd shy away from flashing experimental Alpha builds unless you're ready for some troubleshooting. It might be in your best interest to wait until they are more general public ready.
If you are interested, here are the links to the 3 I'm aware of:
Comes tweaked so far. Not really stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878020
Pretty much stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877653
Pretty much stock as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881557
I've personally used the 2nd and 3rd. Both worked for me but not without some issues for sure.
Oh and no matter what, get very familiar with recovery and NAND BACKUPS (nandroid). Especially when trying these alpha roms, get used to backing up your working roms and restoring them.
Everyone is so helpful but I'm not trying to do anything with my phone until it's officialy released. I just don't know how being rooted effects updating. I don't know if I'm wording this correctly...lol sorry
what my friend is trying to tell you sinse you are rooted you have to wait untill a rom w/ gingerbread on it which he provided some for you. and if you apply it manually you may be un-rooted then until unrevoke or others can break it .
Hi all
anyone know of a fully woking gingerbread rom at this point?

CM7 is the closest. Was using as a daily driver until yesterday to run Z3. Everything but 4g, which no GB rom has.
Check out the cyanogen forums for the latest nightly builds, and the CM7 thread in the general section for any Q's or info.

[wip] cm7 - marvelc

I have successfully ported the CM7 release to our devices. The kernel is made by Bobzhome, and without him I wouldn't have touchscreen support. There are many problems with it, but it boots, and texting and calling work. So does Internet. I need beta testers, so if you flash report error please report them here.
Flash like any other rom:

Hello, I am happy to test this for you!

So, I attempted to use the camera, and it froze the whole phone, in which i pulled the battery, and now it is doing endless reboot.
Simonssimons, great to hear you're developing, but alquez has the stablest release ever!
CDMA users have just to wait a bit. You can maybe share your kernel with alquez?

Bobzhome forked the kernel from alquez's github Then did a bit of cleanup/mod... I'm sure alquez is aware of it.

I take it this is supposed to be a working CM7 just like his, only for us VM users?

Wildfire S lack of CM

We need a stable, bugless CM7 ROM or maybe even CM9 ROM for the MarvelC. Mines the MetroPCS wildfire S. And I litterly refresh the xda developer app everyday with hopes of a new or fixed ROM for my phone, but nothing since I got it. I hate senseui so much that I could puke. And for this reason I'm thinking about buying a cheap Optimus M off Craigslist because honestly to me that was an better phone with CM7 then this one on sense 3.5. In the coming month this phone will be replaced if there's no new development. It's sad and I know I'm posting nonesense by this post. But I had to post my oppinion somewhere. Id develop myself. But I have no clue how to start. I have some limited knowledge of adb and computers. But that's it.
Edit: and oh yeah. Nobody ever replies to marvelc users when they ask for help on CM threads. If its on purpose. It's not funny. We need help dammit.

Here are the roms for the marvelc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1556983
The devs are hard at work to get good roms for your phone please do not insult them by posting negative comments like this
Don't give people false hope. There are NO marvelc devs. We had a couple of hobbiests for awhile, but at this point, even they have stopped trying.
I even tried to get some of the iho team over here for some help. But they are elitists and all but the junior dev ignored me. And all he said was no.
In the end, if you can get rid of the c, do it immediately. It was abandoned by HTC as soon as it was released, and by any capable dev soon after.

A help thread

Hey everyone!
Some of you may know me, or of my work (RobotoMOD, ParanoidAndroid Port), those of you who do know me may also know me by my actual name: Ivan. I don't mind which you call me
More to the point of the thread, I'm making this for anyone who has any questions or comments about anything, it doesn't have to be dev related - it could be a question about Android in general, or if there are apps out there that can do something you want your phone to do, or it could just be that you want to chat.
Whatever it is, post it here. If you feel your thread in the Q&A section isn't getting the attention it requires, I will do my best to answer it to the best of my ability, and in plain, simple English for those who have English as a second language. If it's chatting you're after, or just want to leave a comment, do so! And I'll be sure to make conversation and make new friends with the people I share the same device with.
I generally check the forums every 20-30 minutes when I'm on my computer, and every couple of hours when I'm on my phone - except for when I'm really busy and can't check, so you can be (almost) sure that you'll receive a reply to your post within a day.
Go! :victory:
This maybe a good plan but I personally would want to discourage people from posting questions in the general section....... It is to help them use their eyes and brains before posting anything

As far as I know, there aren't even AOSP ROMs for marvel.
I see cm7 and cm9 which is pure aosp, but they say the marvelc isn't getting much love, or isn't as stable as the gsm version

I think you're a bit confused. CM7 and CM9 aren't pure AOSP. AOSP is Android Open Source Project - that's vanilla Android as Google makes it. CM (CyanogenMod) is a custom ROM that's based on AOSP, adding features and other things. There's CM9 for marvelc, in the same thread as for marvel, and to my knowledge it's pretty stable, but since the dev has a marvel and not a marvelc, he can't test out bugs. I'm not sure about CM7 though.
CM7.2 RC1-marvel-KANG - Wireless N function not available?
Hi,
This is a repost, but I haven't had a response so I thought I'd ask you, seeing as you have made such a kind offer of assistance. I would have asked in the Development section, but I don't have enough posts yet to ask there.
I have a Wildfire S (a510b GSM Australian Telstra base phone) on which I have installed the CM7.2 RC1-marvel-KANG ROM.
I do not appear to be able to see any Wireless N WIFI connections, I think it is a radio issue and that I might need to flash a new radio. However I do not know anything about radio firmware or where to get the correct radio for my phone to allow WIFI N?
What would I need to do to get wireless N working on CM7, it worked on the the stock HTC Sense before I flashed the CM7 ROM?
Many thanks for your help!

strange if there is no CM7 for marvelc,i will try to build new as soon as i get some free time.
there was just a lot of kernel related problems, some of the devs that moved on tried it, icu tried it sort of, but if you can het it to, that would be amazing.
