So, anyone up for a really big problem? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I am going to make one last try to see if there is anything i can do with my hard bricked z.
Flashed with wrong Hboot a couple of months ago.
When i press volume up + power the phone vibrates a few times and then blinks orange.
When i press volume up and down + power the phone vibrates a few times and then its solid green.
In both occations, connecting it to the computer it asks for the Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM drivers. In unitmanager or what its called it says the above driver name and i rightclick and choose update driver then i can select Android Phone. After that i have several choices:
Android ADB Interface
Android Bootloader Interface
Android Composite ADB Interface
I can install and connect phone with the above drivers but none of them works. ADB Shell commands cannot find the phone, HTC sync cannot find the phone. RUU Vision stock program reset cannot find the phone.
Volume down + power doesnt work, wish it would.
Screwed right?
Thanks!
Björn

Press and hold volume down and then press the power button one time while still holding the volume down button.
See if that works.

Have you tried fastbooting by pressing the trackpad and power key?

Look it up...fastboot usually puts the phone in different mode that loads diff drivers when plugged in. You can then load system images directly. This is similar then flashing from adb but without the need for full ad drivers. It does not work on every version of every phone as it needs driver support.

Try your local phone store. If they have JTag equipment they will flash a stock hboot and rom for a small charge. My store JTag flashed my old wildfire for £15.
JTag connects directly to the motherboard and flashed the rom directly.

from your description it seems that you're screwed, have you tried taking it to HTC repair center ?

Hardware or software fault?

Hi there, I am on holiday right now and having some trouble with my DHD. I have limited internet and can't find an awnser. Last night my phone rebooted while using the cam in whatsapp. It now boots in hboot and its stuck there. It doesn't respond to pressing any buttons. I managed to boot the device with Adb by usb using the Adb -d reboot command while connected to my laptop. It boots in save mode and only my volume down key doesn't respond.
Did some additional tests.
Booted in (clockwork) recovery (using Adb) and did the key test and it also didn't respond to the volume down key. (The vol down key feels like there is nothing wrong with it)
Booting with vol up key pressed the phone vibtates four times and then the green light lites. Screen stays off. Don't know if this is normal behavior.
Booting with vol down also gives unresponsive hboot screen.
Although it looks like there is something wrong with the DHDs internals I just wonder if there is a small change its software related and can be fixed. (At home I would just try, but that's to risky now because I need my phone and in save mode I can use al the basic stuf) Maybe some of you guys have similar experiences.
Thanks.

I think it's hardware, you can flash build 1.32. That should sort any software issue, then start over again.

Use adb to boot into recovery. Full wipe:flash new rom from zip.
not a backup.
This is a strange problem but if you cant boot without using adb you need to flash an ruu to re-write the boot img.

I remember reading such issue back in this forum and it turns out to be a stuck volume down contact. What the person did was that he kept pressing volume down until it started working again and these weird issues were gone (I think he also blow up some air where the rocker is iirc)
Try this and hope it helps.
Yes it seems like a stuck volume button. The volume button on this phone is the flimsiest thing I've ever set eyes on. Try what Naailalzuhir said above, that should fix it.
Been pressing all night. No luck yet

Can anyone test holding the volume down button (all the time) while turning on the device. Can you browse through the hboot menu with vol up? (still holding the vol down button)

I've had this problem with the volume up button not working and sticking,
No Hboot or clockwork.
Answer was to remove the plastic cover which sits above the volume controls.
This will void your warranty but should work.
You will have to remove the black ribbon which goes to the volume control buttons.
That will solve the boot issue.
You will find that you can't use clockwork from boot anymore.
You will have install a program called 4EXT Recovery.
Put that in your SD card and use Rom Manager to install.
Works the same as clockwork mod but you use the power button and the home and return keys.
Good luck

[Q] Noob Bricked after CWM attempt

Hi All
After successfully rooting I though I would go the next stage and install CWM , in my haste I must of done something wrong and after resetting the phone it wont turn on. I have tried a factory reset, wont turn on, tried pulling battery etc no luck. When I plug it into the computer I get a searching for QHSUSB_DOWN driver which never succeeds and running the LG update utility just says phone not connected...ANY help would be sincerely appreciated...!!!
Can you get into download mode by pulling the battery out, then put it back, press and hold volume up button and press power button.
If download mode works, then follow the unbricking solution.
Thanks for the quick response and nope no luck!

You can't get into download mode like that (just tried it to verify). You have to power off the device, hold volume up then plug in usb to get into download mode.
either way have had no luck, seems it is going back to warranty....

I seems like it's got into a Qualcomm diagnostics mode, hence the 3 vibrations.

Vol rocker + Power button.
Or just follow the stickies in the general on flashing a factory build to correspond with your device.
Use the search in the future. This has been done to death.

its possible to control my device when the phone is off or just on loading screen?
i think the computer dont recognize the device if its dont turn on..
you say i just need to conncet my phone to run the commands?
If you hold both volume buttons at the same time and push power while you're holding the other buttons, what screen comes up? If it shows an android with the words start in green, you can either follow the instructions he gave you or press volume down twice then power to enter recovery

the volume buttons doenst work at all..
when i push them and the power button the normal screen came up and then he stucks on the loading screen
hmm, you might have to look up how to do an OMAP flash then. i've never done it so i couldn't tell you how. see if anyone else can give you some insight into this before you do that though.
What you should do is open up your device again and fix those volume keys. This isn't a sw issue.

[Q] 4 triangles problem, no bootloader

Hi. Sorry if this question repeats but when I boot my brother's Htc I get 4 triangles and Htc logo. Here are all problems:
4 triangles
bootloader (vol down + power) (back button + power) doesn't work
my pc doesn't recognise the phone (i installed htc sync but still no good, i get popup that says USB device not recognised. I use Windows 8.1)

When I plug the phone to pc with usb cable it shows this:
--- AlphaRev ---
BRAVO EVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23

RUU

What I tried:
bortak's guide (no good because pc can't recognise it)
flashing RUU (I get usb connection error 170)
android flasher (can't find device)
Click to collapse
I also used my friend's laptop with Windows 7. The device was recognised as "My HTC" or smt but I failed to flash RUU. It either gives USB connection error 170 or just says "Sending......" while flashing for a long time and nothing hapens. (I also installed Htc drivers on his pc)
So can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? And I don't know what was done with this phone earlier because it was bought bricked like that. Thanks in advance.
You'll have to boot in bootloader somehow. It's the only way to fix it.
You can only flash a RUU if you're in fastboot. Your phone is not virtually connected to the PC when in 4 triangles mode. It need to be booted in fastboot.
Are your volume buttons not working? Nor the back button?
Thank you for response. I tried to use volume buttons and back button but they doesn't work. Maybe i need to push them harder. I will try again.

Just checking that you know that the phone needs to be powered off before you press the buttons.

Volume up button is sometimes very less responding on htc desire, press back button (do not release) and press power button (also do nof release )
after 3 secs you should see the white bootloader screen.
If you try to press them together, sometimes it just boots as normal because you may have pressed the power button a little bit earlier
