So, this started happening out of random I believe (Specifically after flashing the faster 3g mod), and I'm not quite sure what happened. I doubt the 'faster 3g mod' caused it, but it happens on stock roms, backups previous to the 3g mod, etc...
Basically, what happens is when I open my slider, the screen gets distorted sometimes, and there are blue and yellow blotches all over the place that flicker. It doesn't happen when I'm in portrait mode, and I've even tried editing voodoo settings to see if it was just voodoo causing this, but it wasn't. Sometimes, if I take off auto brightness, it stops temporarily. But do you guys think it's a problem with the phone itself? If so, what would I need to replace?
I think it is the hardware. I would make sure that everything in the phone is plugged it well and not loose.

the android lockscreen seems to think that you messed up when you connect 2 points but you didn't.... it happens every few times you unlock and you have to relock the screen and turn it back on for it to work... im running nebula rom... I hope you guys get what im talking about

If you are using setcpu make sure you have it set to conservitive and set your min to 2 and max to max. IMOE if you have min set to low it takes a few seconds to recognize your touching the screen.
im not... idk what the problem is it just messes up every once in a while and it wont work untill I relock the screen I think its a problem with DK28 because I've had this issue on other rims to... thanks for the suggestion tho.

That is possible I have seen issues where the screen wont respond to touch unless you lock and unlock but I think it was on every version /rom I have tried. Have not yet seen this issue on viperrom (day 5)

Ok seriously its ROMS not RIMS (rims are for your car/glasses) if using swype just type roms and hit space it will add it to your dictionary. Also caps and proper sentence structure will get more people to take you seriously. I dont really care but some of the more knowledgeable people can be Nazi's about that kinda stuff. Also read your typing before you hit send, this is not a txtmsg, it will help others with the same problem. Not trying to be a **** or anything just my $0.02.
As far as I can tell this seems to be an issue with android in general if your homescreen is not freezing also. If homescreen is freezing too sprint should replace the phone. Just Odin back to DI18 before you take it in. Sorry I could not be more helpful on this one.

I have that problem as well. It has been happening a lot since I've been on Bonsai 2.0.1. Didn't happen much at all on the various Viper roms. And I use an unlock pattern. I have to turn the screen off, then back on and retry before it registers correctly. Strange.

Didn't look super hard but have you guys tried adding to the bonsai issues page. been trying for like 30 mins and cant get it to duplicate on viper 4.0.3. or the old lady's Epic on nebula. My kids are both on stock DK28 and can get it one out of ten times.

Thinking back my moment did the same thing and I was never able to solve it. Any dev's want to chime in on this?
Anyone narrow down the random reboots when phone is idle, I'm using all of no2chems files, fugu tweaks, DRockstar's clean kernel 1.0.3, and my own version SRF 1.1.0 as a base, this is pissing me off... Someone remind me how to pull a log file...
Im getting tired of changing this...
I don't use any of that stuff, but my phone freezes/sleeps/crashes if I leave it alone for 15-30 minutes. I think its because I dropped it, but I'll find out for sure when I get my replacment, and root/flash my mods again. I have to pull the battery and put itback in to turn it back on after this happens.

I just started getting the random reboots. I have none of that stuff. Just Bonsai and Genocide kernel. I did however test a bunch of beta kernels in a row and think that did something somewhere. I cleared data and Dalvik 3 times. I saw one random reboot after that but that was the last one. If I see it happen again I am going to reflash the ROM.
Nope, still getting them. Trying a nandroid restore to when I wasn't getting random reboots. Oh the joys of being a beta tester!

Nope...stock. Your issue with the larger battery is the space between the case and battery as well as the center of balance for the overweight battery. A small piece of cardboard between the battery and case will fix that.
I had this issue to. other threads call it s.o.d or sleep of death. The only way that I could guarantee it to not happen to me was to either turn on gps or bluetooth or install watchdog. It's some how prevented by apps that poll regularly.

Sleep of death is when it won't wake from standby usually caused by a program letting your phone go through a 100 Mhz step. We are talking about random reboots. The phone will vibrate once then reboot when sitting by itself. I just restored a Nand from before flashing 10 beta kernels and so far no reboot.
I just saw a class action lawsuit in the works as the problem seems to be across all S series phones.

When i place a call and put the phone to my ear and then pull back away the screen does not "wake". It stays de-activated, no matter what i do. Eventually the only thing to do is to hold the power button down long enough for the phone to reboot.
Stock ROM, no root.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
WTF
I tested by laying the phone flat on a surface, placed a call, and then put my hand over the proximity sensor. The screen turned black as it should. When I removed my hand it did not come back on. Again, the only solution is to reboot the phone. So, the proximity sensor is not working correctly. Is this a known issue and is there a way to fix?
BUMP!
I'm in the self test module and am running the "sensors" test. I'm not sure when this ends if it ends at all or what values that proximity sensor field should have.
Anybody? Bueller?
Apparently Q&A isn't the place to post this? This is dissapointing coming from the E4GT forums which were super responsive.

NOT FIXED
So after a reboot the proximity sensor does not work on calls again. I turned it off and then back on and still no luck. I didn't actually make a call, but obviously I shouldn't have to do this every time i reboot the phone, so clearly there is an issue. It appears to be software since I got it to work once.
Any ideas? Thanks.

That solution wasn't very good aha, what I would suggest you root your phone without tripping the flash counter and install a custom rom to see if the issue still exists, if yes you should return the phone.

thanks well it's brand new and it may be hardware related so i'd rather just get a fresh device then sweat dealing with root yet. this is why i waited to root it. I appreciate your effort though .

Question, does anybody know what exactly causes the SSODs in the JB ROMS? Just curious. I've had them happen in the MOST UNWANTED times. Like, I'll be recording a video. Then suddenly the phone will freeze, then either reboot or shut off. I would then have to take the battery out and put it back in. To turn the phone back on.

Well, not necessarily. First thing is find out what is causing them. Second, will be what can be done with said cause to fix it, without breaking anything. Though, once the cause is revealed, im sure it wont take to long to fix the issue.
note to the op don't remove the battery, you can damage your phone.. just hold the power button, it will restart..

Yea I think the two of you are saying the same thing.. Its basically recognize issue and these smart developers for android will squash the bug. The thing that gets me is the question. Like in typing it do you really think that as long as the bug has been out that if someone knew what to do it would not of been done? Also if you check the changelogs you see countless kernel fixes that shows they are trying everything. What needed to be done in this case is trying to understand the changelogs and commits so you better educate yourself on Android
The biggest annoyance for anyone wanting to mess with less-than-stable ROMs is that you really can't tell what's going to cause it. As with any other software/OS/whatever it is completely dependant on what you have done to the phone. The minute you begin adding apps or configuring your phone to anything other than the exact way it comes, you are causing your own unique set of test criteria.
Obviously there are gray areas in all of this, and customizations can often even assist in the understanding of what causes failures, but the bottom line is that it's up to you just as much as it is up to the stability of the ROM.
Alright, so my girlfriend's Samsung Galaxy S II started to go through these weird partial reboots several weeks ago (maybe even months). The phone would randomly go black, play the stupid shutdown/startup (dont remember which) jingle...then just simply be at the lock screen with a crossed out circle where the signal bars would be (for just a couple of seconds). When this happened, I used to just tell her to shutdown the phone, take out the battery, and let it sit for about 30 seconds, then put everything back together and start it back up. This seemed to work, which made me think it might have just been a software or at worst a memory issue of some kind.
This issue was always intermittent, but now, no matter what I do, it just keeps looping this "restarting" problem. I can't access any internal memory space from my computer because in the time it takes to connect, it just "reboots" again. I made a logcat of the phone up until the "reboot", and in doing so noticed that when I would browse the phone via adb shell, I saw no mount for the sd card...which then lead me to believe maybe it was an issue with that. I checked the sd card for corruption (and prior to even using it, checked that all blocks were read/writable (legit)), but that led nowhere.
Anyways, not having any idea where to go next, nor where to begin or what to look for in the 5000+ lined logcat, I turn to xda with hopes of getting some sort of help. Thanks in advance for any I get!
EDIT: Oops, some other important notes I didn't mention (other than in title); this is running stock firmware, only OTA. I tried once to upgrade her to ICS via Kies, but the upgrade would never complete. She also refused to let me root her phone...so unless there is a stock recovery mode, her phone has none...
bump, as its been a week and no responses. If anyone has any ideas or can figure out whats wrong from the logcat, please help.
Almost 3 weeks...no answer...isn't there at least 1 person who has an idea or can deduce one from the logcat? Pretty soon I'm gonna have to tell her to give up and get it "fixed" (ie, swapped for a refurb with most likely all her data lost)...

Looking at the logcat if it is accurate the problem is overheating and it is shutting itself down. That's why it keeps rebooting from I read but I could be wrong. Also looks like it has wakelock issues. Lot of wakelock errors in logcat. Some app or apps are causing the wakelock issue find them and remove them that might solve the problem.

Thats what I thought, because it seemed to get exceptionally hot before "rebooting"...at first...then I was noticing it "rebooting" when clearly cold. If it is indeed overheating like I had thought in the very beginning, is there anything I can do about it? What does it use for heat conductivity and displacement? And for that matter, I would think if it was overheating though, it would actually reboot, not the half-ass semi-reboot its been doing...
And what is wakelock exactly that it would cause an issue? Only apps I see using it are WootWatcher, KeyguardViewMediator and PowerManagerService.

I would use odin...but the phone doesn't stay on long enough to do much of anything before "rebooting". Also, she is already using stock firmware + OTA updates. And her contacts are not what I am worried about, its her photos and such. This is the very reason why I hate internal memory for phones...
And I'm pretty sure its not a sticky power button, I had seen that being a common issue when researching before posting. And again, if I have not been clear, its not exactly "rebooting", just semi-rebooting; phone starts up, crap starts running, a min or 2 later, phone acts like its restarting (plays sound and all), then just comes back to the lock screen immediately...I can't really describe it much more than that.
And no, I'm not familiar with "download mode"

I wish I could help you further but i can say one thing, the rebooting that your describing is called a "hot reboot". I know what ur talking about and others will too if u use that term. Good luck.
