How do I change the name I assigned the first time I setup the phone? I cant find it in settings anywhere? Also is there away to edit the phone number that is assigned to the phone? My is wrong but i cant change it.
If I understand you correctly, I think you should log into your Google account on your computer, ie. Gmail or something. Then go to your account settings and change your details from there.?
Not sure about the phone number question, but for the name:

I think 'Owner Info' is just for text you want displayed on the Lock Screen in case you lose the phone.

That's just what gets shown on the lockscreen when you have a PIN/pattern.
Yeah I am not sure. When I gtalk on my phone it the recipient just sees my first name because that's all I put in when I setup. Then from the computer it shows full name as that is what is in my account.

The phone number in settings>about phone is what the phones registered number on the cell network is. If it is wrong you have the wrong sim installed.

Thats not true, well at least in Australia it isn't. Its simply a field that is saved on the sim card that is changable. I changed mine on my old iphone to see what would happen and never bothered to change it back. You can just edit it on the iphone.
Not that it really matters, probably good actually, apps which try and get your phone number are probably getting the bogus one.

Go to Settings > About Phone > Status > My Phone Number
You can enter your phone number there. Once you do so, it should display whatever image you have setup for 'me'.
I am running 6.1 at the moment and this fixes the problem but only TEMPORARILY. The phone number does not persist through a reboot so you have to re-enter it everytime. Not sure if this has been fixed in CM7 RC's or not. Check that thread in Android Development.

Pretty sure I already said this lol.
But fwiw my icon still greys out even though CM7 recognizes my number. It also doesnt recognize a few of my contacts for pulling facebook pictures down.
U told me to go to about phone I can't edit there and check u might have doubles or triples of certain contacts n it won't use the pic jus seek them out and join them or delete the doubles. And if u have a pic set it should use it. I don't like using fb pics cuz its a bunch of ppl I never talk too lol
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Yea well I don't have doubles its really weird. Just 3 of my contacts won't pull in pictures and it won't pull in my picture either.
I do use Facebook a bit. I have it set to only sync pictures with existing contacts, not pull in ALL contacts from facebook to my phone. That would be ridiculous.
So when you go to contacts and type the name of the person the pic won't show it only shows one? Cause when I scroll thru contacts it don't show the doubles when I searched them for some reason I had a lot of doubles. And after u went to call settings and added your number and your phone recognized it did u add urself as a contact?

Yea I even checked via gmail through my contacts lists I have no duplicates. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the FaceBook app and logging out/in again.
As far as my picture, I've tried creating a contact card for myself and it doesn't work.
Hello all,
I have an issue that I could really use some input on.
I am currently unable to send a txt message and can't figure out why, but this is what I did.
I went into Phone Testing settings (the #*#* command) and only really looked around. I checked the other band options but put it back to GSM/CDMA auto. I also looked at the Select Bands option and am not sure what it was set to before, but I just chose Auto.
After I did that I am now unable to send txt messages and can't think of anything else I may have done to mess it up. Handscent nor the stock txt app will send, it just fails immediately.
I otherwise have a strong signal and full data connectivity. I tried a baseband restore as well as reinstalling the kernel and that has not restored my sms.
I didn't change any settings in APN and even restored it to default.
I'm using Team KANG milestone 2 and Franco Kernel 14 on WIND in Canada. Everything was working just fine before all of this.
Thanks for the help!
rAy
UPDATE: I also did a CWM restore of a backup I did only an hour or so before this happened and when things were working fine and now I'm getting panic prompts for 'google.process.gapps'. Ideas??
UPDATE 2: Judging from other posts in his thread it COULD be related to the Franco Kernel, he just upped a fix for something. Going to try flashing the old one and then to the newest to see if that helps.
UPDATE 3: It did not, still can't send txt.
I remember reading a post like this before, don't remember if it was fixed or not
Type *#*#4636#*#* in your dialer. Press phone info. Scroll down to smsc and then press refresh then update. See if that works. Otherwise you can manually enter that number. Search for the smsc # for your carrier.

Actually I have solved the mystery!
What I apparently did was delete my SMSC number in the Phone Testing menu by hitting 'Update' next to the box... so I'd advise anyone else not to do it either lol.
I found the code needed for WIND in Canada too in case anyone finds themselves in this situation.
You need to re-enter the SMSC Carrier number. For WIND Mobile Canada, SMSC is 16135009000
Android requires you to enter this info in Hex.
Hex = 07916131059000F0
In the dialpad enter *#*#4636#*#*
Select phone information
Scroll down to SMSC field, enter 07916131059000F0 and done. Then reboot

Click to collapse
You can find the code to other networks with a search here at XDA, just remember that you apparently need to convert to HEX first.

PS: I think I was writing mine as you wrote yours, but thanks for the reply El Daddy! That would have saved me if I wasn't so impatient lol

Not really a bug. The carrier doesn't expect people to know how to go into the service menu and change it themselves. People really shouldn't be randomly hitting buttons that they don't understand what it will do.. Google could have designed the UI better also. It's kind of a huge mess of a design.

Did you even read what I posted? I'll quote: "It apparently wipes the SMSC number as soon as you enter the hidden phone settings...". Now, that's not randomly hitting buttons is it? Just viewing a settings menu shouldn't wipe a setting (and, it hasn't before for me on gingerbread, froyo or eclair) so I'd call that a bug.

That is not true. It only removes the SMSC if you touch the update button. I have been in that menu a lot and have never had it randomly delete my SMSC settings.

But, I could say that is not true. I didn't touch anything other than the network mode (changing from WCDMA Preferred or GSM auto (PRL)) yet mine got wiped. Just 'cause it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it isn't a bug!
How sure are you that you didn't hit update? It's not intuitive that you are not supposed to do it so you might have done it without thinking. Also, I noticed a lot of tutorials online that tell people to hit update when they shouldn't be doing that.
This is the first I've ever read of this as the most likely cause was that button. Just re-read the first post and there might be a bug in the kernel? Or maybe it's just an Orange thing, but didn't think there was much difference between the different versions of yakju**.

I'm pretty damn sure I didn't touch that button. I wasn't going anywhere near that setting until I went in the second time after noting I couldn't send texts. I think one thing that should be sorted is the requirement to enter the SMSC in HEX format, that wasn't required on my desire.
SMSC code for AT&T US
The SMSC code for carrier AT&T US is: 07913121139418F0
Once you put the SMSC code in, click update, then refresh and your all set. NO REBOOT / RESTART needed.

And you DON'T want this to happen?
You could probably do that by forcing the browser to show Desktop Site, but it might not have that option because you are on mobile. My bet is that it's something on Google's end, and you wouldn't be able to force any auto completion of your password.

If you lost your phone, they already have your account from the accounts & sync screen. And all of the current apps on the phone you're signed in to (sooo disabling this feature ITT won't fix your problem). Not to mention that they have everything else on the phone you should be worried about. When you lose your phone, you can instantly log into the computer and change your password etc.., but you can't get back the phone or data.
Put a passcode on your phone. Problem solved.

read phone status and identity
Allows the app to access the phone features of the device. This permission allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active, and the remote number connected by a call.
Really? Phone permissions on a theme? Anyway, that's probably the problem.

Hi guys,
I'm curious as to whether anyone has worked out how to change the G3s default contact storing location. By default it chooses the phone, however I want it to save to my Gmail account, meaning I have to change it manually each time. It also means that if I forget, somewhere down the line I'm going to end up accidentally losing some contacts if I change phone.
Any ideas?
I chose my Gmail contacts to be displayed. When I go to add a new contact it automatically says my Gmail at the top as the place to save. Give that a try?

Yep, this worked for me. I tested it with entering in a test contact and then editing it. It showed up in my account online and changed accordingly.

Okay, so this is peculiar then that the majority of us can't change this behaviour. Apart from the two reports above from people who aren't having this issue, is there anyone else?
I'm wondering if those that aren't having the problem have removed or frozen something or made some other change that is allowing them to change the default option?
Thoughts?

I've run Stump Root to get root, but other than that, I'm running stock. I just got my G3 2 weeks ago and I didn't think to check the contacts locations until I saw the thread posted up and made the change yesterday.
On my G2 it was defaulted to gmail contacts, as I recall, when I eventually looked in to it, it was already set.
Good luck and I hope y'all can make the change. That used to drive me nuts on my wife's phone.
Yes I have the same problem even if I change the saving location from drop list to Google, later on again the default is phone I talked to some LG Officials also but no any benefit :-s for that purposes Samsung is the best !!
