read phone status and identity
Allows the app to access the phone features of the device. This permission allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active, and the remote number connected by a call.
Really? Phone permissions on a theme? Anyway, that's probably the problem.

Hello. For some reason I can't add contacts anymore. When I press "add contact " is comes up with a blank screen with "save" at the bottom but no form to add the contact. It also does it if I try to add a number from the dialer as a contact. Thanks for your help.

Did you either freeze or uninstall AT&T address book? You need this to add contacts.
yes, that was it. however when I try to restore it, it doesnt seem to be working it just says "restoring app + data" and the status circle just goes around and around. been doing this like 10 mins now.
Any suggestions?

How do I change the name I assigned the first time I setup the phone? I cant find it in settings anywhere? Also is there away to edit the phone number that is assigned to the phone? My is wrong but i cant change it.
If I understand you correctly, I think you should log into your Google account on your computer, ie. Gmail or something. Then go to your account settings and change your details from there.?

I think 'Owner Info' is just for text you want displayed on the Lock Screen in case you lose the phone.

That's just what gets shown on the lockscreen when you have a PIN/pattern.
Yeah I am not sure. When I gtalk on my phone it the recipient just sees my first name because that's all I put in when I setup. Then from the computer it shows full name as that is what is in my account.

The phone number in settings>about phone is what the phones registered number on the cell network is. If it is wrong you have the wrong sim installed.

Thats not true, well at least in Australia it isn't. Its simply a field that is saved on the sim card that is changable. I changed mine on my old iphone to see what would happen and never bothered to change it back. You can just edit it on the iphone.
Not that it really matters, probably good actually, apps which try and get your phone number are probably getting the bogus one.
I've heard of Prey Anti-Theft , and seek droid. Anyone got a good one?
I use cerebrus, it sends a pic to my email every 3 wrong lock pattern entries and can be hidden from the app drawer, remote wipe of device and a whole bunch of other amazing features are included too. Not sure about any others as i'd just bought this and never saw a need to switch to any others.
Edit: Unless of course you mean something that can be installed after the phone is lost/stolen then I'm not sure.
If you're looking for an app that you download after it's already stolen, give this a try. Otherwise, I'm currently using Cerberus though I have yet to lose my phone or get it stolen (hopefully never).
Another shout-out to Cerberus.
It's fantastic.
https://www.cerberusapp.com/download.php
I use the ICS disguised .zip.
It still works just fine on Jelly Bean...and it disguises it as "System Framework."
This way it's a System Application.
And it doesn't show up as "Cerberus" in the Settings>Applications screen.

True.
But I've never met anyone who does, personally.
For ultimate security:
Pin Lock on your Screen. ---Obvious
No Custom Recovery. ---ADB access available in Custom Recovery
Disable USB Debugging. ---Not sure if it allows Access with your Screen Locked...but I'd do it just to be safe.
Keep Bootloader Locked. --- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27878074 can unlock/lock a rooted phone when YOU need it. Otherwise, they could just flash a new recovery and ADB pull. This way...if they're savvy enough to unlock...at least your data is gone from prying eyes.
I use an app called android lost. It works pretty well.

comodo anti theft works really good.. has all the features required.
I've been using Avast Mobile Security. It does all the antivirus, privacy, firewall stuff, but can also install Anti-theft piece into the System partition under any name you specify, and you can password protect it; that way it's not that obvious to the thief that it's an anti-theft app and he can't uninstall it through the applications menu. When a new SIM is inserted it detects that and sends sms from that phone number to the phone numbers you specified, then you can do a remote wipe.
Hearing about Cerberus though I am definitely gonna have to check it out.

I like Cerberus because you can be a total creeper if someone takes your phone.
GPS track it.
Then once you know where they're located...Set of alarms.
The phone makes a siren sound and the torch turns on and off...and a message of your choice is displayed on the screen.
Once they touch the phone it takes their picture and emails it to you =]
And it does the sim-checker as well.
And you can do audio recordings...
Screenshots...
SMS Logs...Call Logs...
And it's a one time payment of...what...$5? It's been quite some time since I bought it.
Cerberus does look nice. No update for jellybean though unfortunately.

would this wipe my phone though?
Nope. Unlocks and Locks without any ill effects.
The kicker is you need to be rooted.
[Meaning you can't use this if your phone isn't rooted...and thus, no, this isn't an alternative to Manually unlocking and rooting your phone]

You can't prevent them flashing the stock images or getting into fastboot.
This will prevent them flashing a custom recovery...without wiping data.
A custom recovery could be used to get into your phone without a reset.

That's why you root and put Cerberus as a system app, it would even survive a factory reset. Cerberus is the best theft app by far.
Hello,
I am the developer of JReader Google Reader app for Android and recently I got this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jyvee.jreader&reviewId=05301379803442866151 review on Google Play, informing me of sync issues. The review doesn't help me to find the cause of the problem, and additionally I'm getting many error reports form Nexus 7 devices, and some of them are very hard to troubleshoot.
I'd be very grateful if Nexus 7 users could try out the app and help me solve device specific problems.
Here is the link to the app's XDA thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782777
And Google Play link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jyvee.jreader
Thanks in advance!
Downloaded the app and its syncing right now. So do you want me to read things on reader.Google.com and then see if the app recognizes the read stories?

Yes, please let me know if initial sync completed successfully and any changes afterwards (either in app or in Google) are also synced properly.
Thanks a lot!
It seems to have just sync'd up to September 17th. I actually don't use my Google reader so nothing has been read elsewhere haha

By default the app syncs first 5000 items, so that's ok. I guess no device specific issues then.
Thanks a lot!
I switched it to 1000. But I mean the newest stories are September 17th. So I don't know if its device specific but it didn't sync properly
It's all reversed..
Older stories are all at top, newest at the bottom.. Synced fine though.
can i ask why it has this
PHONE CALLS
READ PHONE STATE AND IDENTITY
Allows the app to access the phone features of the device. An app with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like.

Hi,
I think it is not needed currently. android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE was used by some ad networks I used previously. Currently JReader uses Admob only, so it's not needed I think. I have removed the permission and will test it a bit to make sure that i haven't referenced any code that requires that permission. If everything goes well it will be removed from the next version, otherwise I will let you know.
Thanks a lot for noting it! I know that this permission affects google play rating and I totally forgot to remove it in time.
