So sometime between friday and today I've managed to crack the glass over my camera. I have no clue how this could have happened since I have it in a seidio innocase, and the camera rests below the case. I don't get why they didn't use the same type of glass for the camera as they did for the scree!
In any case, I'm not sure what to do to fix it? I'm still within my 30 days (barely!) but I'm not sure if it's a widespread enough issue for me to try and get them to replace it.
Any advice you guys can give me would be appreciated.

They have to replace it if it's within 30 days. Go replace it no way you can fix that.
So basically tell them to fix it or that i'll return the phone and cancel my service? (i'm also a new customer)
well if you have the insurance that may help a little.. but im not sure if you would have to pay that crazy $100 fee
I'm not sure they'll take it back in the 30 days, since it's not a defect and the phone isn't in "like new condition." You broke it, so they probably won't accept it.
If you haven't purchased the phone insurance yet, I would just purchase that and then wait a while and attempt to get it exchanged that way. Also, a repair facility might be able to replace it..?
As I said on another forum, if you end up pulling out the glass (because it is very easy to replace yourself), take some measurements. We should be able to get a sapphire lens that will replace it and be much more durable.
I read somewhere, either here or one of the other forums that the camera lens cover is actually made of plastic. The poster said he heated a pin and was able to push it through like a hot knife through butter.

I turned the phone over on day 18, and yes, my glass has a "popped" right down the middle. I babied this thing in a gooey case, b.c even though 2.5 years with an iphone with no case and no issues, i thought htc was being gusty with their protruding camera, so for that reason alone I went with a case.... and NO WAY, crack. and i did the run around yesterday. I called HTC, and even thought the person who called the rep right before me complained of the EXACT same issue, short ownership and glass crack, they said sadly the crack is considered physical damage and not yet a issue htc is aware of. so i called a local Sprint store who said oh yeah, no problem, your within the 30 days right? yes, call this number at sprint headquarters, they will send you a new one and a box to send the old one, bla bla bla like its totally no problem, however, the corporate sprint rep kindly regrets i have been misinformed, and its physical damage. then i call the local store back and they are bummed and send me to a different store, a cooperate repair place who they believe would swap it out. this guy says, bummer, looked at it via a microscope, says its a plastic sheet cracked straight through with small perpendicular cracks and due to popularity they don't even have any repair parts... basically they get them as people smash their front screen, then they part them out. b.c. the phones are so new and popular, they don't have any (i'm in a 4g area). so he just said take the phone to any cooperate store, not bestbuy radioshack, (third party dealers) and say that i received the phone damaged, and just noticed it now, and they should they will swap you with one due to being in 30 days. So i will try that today, but i feel caught in a catch 22. its not even 30 days and the device breaks, which qualifies as physical damage from the customer, so no one will swap phones with you, and b.c its so new and hard to get, no one has parts even, repair facilities, so our 30 day window will run out before we can get it fixed for free... Next day i try a second corporate store, for sure the cracked high strength plastic is considered physical damage so there is no way to return phone and cancel service, you will still be stuck with the cost of the phone. so. because its still early, you can add insurace 7 bucks a month, 100 buck deductible. so basically my options are 107 for a phone with a perfectly sealed camera that doesn't create any glare in low light pics or pics shot into a light source, or i can just ride it out, and hope over time htc does something or parts become available via ifixit.com. so. mega bummer no idea how it broke, obviously everyone who looks at the single crack has to believe you somehow maliciously directly hit it on something with a protruding point, and i'm pretty sure it wasn't there when i got it, but i do know i didn't do anything out of the ordinary, so its a real puzzler. but, i would say if you have this issue, take it to a sprint repair facility if only to have the tech log the problem on thier system ,b/c then more techs will add notes to the issue and sprint/htc will have actual legit feedback to see if its a trending problem. even though you are going to get nowhere, even within the 30 days, make the complaints so the problem get's noticed. oh and did i mention i bought 2 one for me, one for my wife... with hers, so far so good. would love to hear if any others had luck fabricating one out of sapphire or something else really durable. its got to be a 20 cent piece of plastic.
That sucks man, sorry to hear that. I know other people have had the same issue. Hopefully htc owns up and fixes it.
Will that be enough to warrant a replacement from Sprint? It's obviously a manufacturer's defect and a huge cosmetic flaw. Anything else I would have to tell them to get it replaced? I'm covered under the Total Equipment Protection plan, so I know everything other than water damage and total destruction is supposed to be free. My plan is to just say, "Hey, my phone has been like this since I got it, and I didn't think anything of it until I saw my friend's EVO with absolutely no light-leakage and realized what a huge defect this was. I feel this reflects poorly on the build-quality of the launch models, and I would like a new hardware revision if possible."
Edit: My screen glass is also slightly coming off in the lower right-hand corner, so light is even leaking straight out that way as well.
As long as they have a screen in stock, they will fix it for free. Make sure the store you take it to has a service department. They replaced mine for dust under the glass, so actual separation is a no-brainer to me. Mine is also a 002.

What do you mean a "screen in stock?" Are they going to physically replace the glass? There's nothing wrong with the screen itself.

On my phone there was just dust under the glass. They replaced the whole thing because it is one assembly...LCD, digitizer, and glass including the outer black bezel. When I took mine in the tech said, "let me make sure we have a screen in stock", then said they did and to come back in an hour. Phone was good as new when I returned.
They will fix the glass if they have it in stock. they will take your apart, and reglue a new piece of glass. If they dont, they will order you a refurbished phone, which could have worse leakage than you have now.
I have dust under the screen as well, but haven't taken it in because I don't want to unroot the phone or get a refurb back...
if I call the service center that is near me and they have a screen, can I just make the phone look stock or do I have to unroot?

I took mine in fully rooted and running Fresh with Riptide's theme...not a word was said. Rooting would only be an issue if you were seeking a software related repair. Of course, there are those that say otherwise, so do whatchalike.
I'm running cm nightly, so I'll probably flash a stock look before going in.

i do not see why they would need to replace the glass as well. im not about to loose my screen protector. i might just buy a lcd on ebay and do it myself. i also have white spots and severe light leakage.

You will definitely not get a new phone. I went through this with them about 2 months ago. I had a launch day Evo that had light leakage and the screen was loose on it. I was told it was pretty much normal in the store and they even told me it was not a known defect, how this is true is beyond me. Anyways, they send a replacement to me and it had worse light leakage than my original so I had to take it to the store to prove this Sprint. After that I had to sit on the phone forever with Customer service and they finally shipped another replacement. Well guess what... it had light leakage as well. So, in the end I took the one that had the least light leakage but it still has some. They are going to want to replace your screen or a refurb. I even went through retention to try and get a new phone which is like the highest up you can go through customer service and they wouldn't even give me a new one. So, if I were you keep what you have because more than likely a replacement is going to have leakage as well. Hope this helps some, but unfortunately HTC likes to crank out Evo's so fast that the quality control isn't the best.
You shouldn't have a problem. Sprint will try to fix it. There are pretty bad light leakage problems from a detached screen causing the glass to rise up and not sit flush. If this is what you are experiencing, Sprint will fix it. The next thing they would do is just give you a refurbished phone or a NIB (new in box). The latter is obviously best but go in. The worst they will do is give your phone back to you and tell you to go through Asurion but I doubt that.
Light leaking is not keeping your phone from working so there would be no replacement.

I might try it. I'm going to be jumping ship on the 20th, anyways. A newer EVO could make a $50 difference on eBay, and it wouldn't matter if my warranty was voided due to being rooted. I'll leave CM6.1 on there for ****s and giggles.

Well I had the light leakage too,I just took a tiny bead of glue,ran it along the edge and everything is fine......you can't even tell where I glued it.problem solved.

First of all apologies for asking for your opinions guys but i am kinda stuck and do not know what to do.
My phone is fully functional and do not have any screen flickering issues or anything else regarding drop calls and so on. What is the problem is that on the left hand side of the phone there is a gap between the screen glass and the plastic that keeps the screen and body together. You can notice that by the amount of dust that gathers there.
Now i have 3 options. I spoke to HTC today and awaiting a decision from them if they would replace my phone with a different one or repair it. I will be honest i would rather go for a replacement. Has anyone who actually send it for repairs how did you find the customer service and the whole experience?
Other option is for my carrier to take the phone and repair it. No fees depending on the warranty but they said they would collect it and repair it. They would not replace it due to the fact they only replace the handset only once and only if you are within 28 days. I am sorry i feel that is total crap as it is not my fault i have a faulty handset. But no point arguing as they would never back down so i am stuck.
Any opinions would be gladly appreciated i just can not go without my phone for to long as is it kinda my baby now..i know sad but it is true sorry
Just keep the darn phone! If everything else is perfect, do you really think that it is worth the risk asking for a replacement? Especially considering the more serious defects that this handset is experiencing! Keep your phone in a case if you are so frightened of the elements - not that little dust ever hurt anything!

Hey guys, my camera seems to have a random "blob" in the preview window as well as after the image is taken. I personally think its a spec of dust.. But i went to T-Mobile and they are warrantying it out.. I kinda dont wanna warranty it out as i get a stupid refurb device.. When mine is BRAND new and flawless. Screen protector ALL the time, otterbox case ALL the time.. Plus in my past, i never had luck with refurb devices..
My question is this, since i have the know how to take apart the device and "clean" the actual camera iris, i am wondering if samsung would be able to tell if the device has been taken apart just incase a bigger issue comes down the line where it will cost me too much to fix and warranty will cover it. I do have all the proper tools to dissassemble the device without leaving pry marks or screw marks. Thanks guys!

they usually figure it out from the fairy dust that's left behind.
but seriously, how would they be able to find out it was taken apart until they have taken it apart themselves? will they leave a sock on the doorknob? you know how to take the device apart, shouldn't you know if there is a way? you are probably one out of 10,000 people that will read this that knows how or will take the time to actually "clean" the iris. if you know how to do THAT (?) you are better off doing any repairs yourself before bothering with warranty and getting a refurb. just my two cents

Thats what i thought.. And from my experience in my other devices (HD2, Touch Pro 2, Galaxy S2) i have seen screws that were covered by "Void" stickers where once you remove the "void" sticker it has "void" written where the sticker used to be.. Meaning well you guessed it, warranty now void.
I do enjoy warranty because i used to not have to pay a single cent for it, well now T-Mobile wants 20 bucks for shipping handling -.- (Seriously Tmo?) But somethings i do not enjoy taking apart.. Like say i dont know the EXACT issue, i would rather just get a refurb.. But i have the choice once the refurb gets here, i have seven days to send one of them back. If i do a once over of the device and figure its in worse condition than my current one, i'll fix the current one. Again im just hoping its as simple as dust on the iris..

Today I had the M9 in a window mount for GPS. After arriving, I took it from the holder to see the sapphire glass had a big crack through it. This phone is 6 days old, hasnt been dropped or anything. Always in a case and always in an inside pocket or on the sofa arm in my house when not in my hand.
It looks a clear case of insurance

That's not good & one would expect the sapphire to hold up to even high temperatures.

No insurance on it so far, but will be popping back to the store ASAP. Ive always loved HTC Build quality but this has left me baffled and frustrated

Looks like the case is scratched and the camera glass looks like it has an impact point on it..
It definately isnt or hasnt. I sed to work in mobile retail so I know excactly how it looks and sounds. But can guarantee that it nothing has impacted it.
Also IRL the crack is perfect and there is no impact point visible

In the UK we dont have that.
However, sensible staff in O2 Hanley sorted me out today and replaced my phone as they could see it was a definate quality issue.

That's crazy. The sapphire glass on that is supposed to be tougher than gorilla glass.

I'm not am expert in this area, but don't assume too much about sapphire. Though its very scratch resistant due to its hardness, it is also very brittle, and can easily chip or crack especially when impacted on an edge or corner.

You aren't the only one to have this happen to their M9 friend. I was lucky enough to be a part of the HTC champions program and have had the HTC m9 since before it was available to buy. Somehow or another the glass on my camera lens cracked as well. The device had previously never been dropped (was in a case) and at the time was in a box. I'm now wondering if the glass is cracking due to some sort of heat issue.
I had to use the "uh-oh" insurance to have repaired unfortunately.
My htc one m9 dev edition was always in a case from day one never dropped or mishandled , I have been looking at the camera glass every time I put it down because of this post and I always lay it down on the face of the screen because temper glass protector and case keeps it from touching the table. I just came back to my phone and there is a clean crack from top to bottom almost in the center of the camera glass. Now I don't know what to do I ordered directly from HTC I guess I will be contacting them, I love the phone but I am not to happy about this.
update: Chatting with HTC Support they have no knowledge of this issue.
update: Only option given was to use my uhoh protection, I declined because if this is a common problem it should be fixed and what if it happens again, having reference number made so I can contact a supervisor when I get home.
update: 1-866-449-8358 is the number HTC has given me and it sends me directly to a operator saying to check the number and try again, I have really started to dislike this whole experience and seeing how its still under 30 days that I just got off the phone with their third party order center Digital River they said I will receive a shipping label in a few days to mail the device back, I really don't want to go to another device but after this I might, if I do stay with the One m9 Ill just order through my carrier to make a much less painless return if it happens again, but after all the wasted time there are other devices from manufactures that I never had any problems with.

Hey guys, my camera cracked as well after 2 days of owning it with no sort of mishandling it at all. I just pulled it out once and noticed the camera is cracked. It would be really nice of HTC to recognize it is faulty hardware & offer to replace it for M9 owners...

Well I am jumping ship, even though I really like this phone, I feel the company is becoming a joke, all tech support can do via chat is issue a uhoh protection and good luck reaching htc in the USA, seems they must have forgot to pay the phone bill. This issue needs to be proven and known but I am not going to spend my money on quality testing, hopefully they will revise the part, but without enough people complaining I doubt anything will be done. It almost feels like it is intentional to get us out of the uhoh protection.
Same thing happened to my phone a few weeks ago. I let my phone charge overnight, woke up & it was blazing hot. I thought nothing of it. I was looking at my phone & noticed a clean crack on the lens. I sent it back and it wasn't counted as a UH-OH protection. That's a plus.
