hi everyone I'm Italian so sorry in case of bad english.
so this is the story, I have buy a galaxy gio (2nd hand) and it comes to me with a galaxy ace rom in fact in the device info the model is S5830. another and bigger problem is that some button are invert,in fact the home button do not have any effect while the effect of the home button is now the function of the vol-up button and the function of vol-up is now non existent. this cause the fact that is impossible to place the phone in download mode to flash with odin.I have flash the cyanogen 7 via recovery in order to bypass odin but the bad surprise is that the problem of the button remained unsolved after the reboot.the only mode that I be able to place the phone is "emergency dload mode arm9 mode" but odin stop in "setup connection" if I try to flash in this mode.my question is: there is something like bios in pc that command the phone that I can flash or replace with the correct one? thanks everyone in advance

Did all your keys work in recovery mode? Also, did you use standard recovery or Clockwork mod recovery?

Install the Android SDK and use the "adb reboot download" command.
With a bit of luck, you should get access to the normal download mode without a USB jig.

Hi, I've read your reply,one-one I will try these methods. but while reading I have thinked one thing, why if I have installed cyanogen via sd zip now the button are still inverted? after all now I have another rom nevertheless the button remained in the earlier state.
About the question of markoghc in recovery mode I can go down in menu with vol-down but I can't go up with vol-up because the vol-up button has the function of "ok", again the home/ok button don't have any function and the power button coincide with "back function". the recovery is CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.6.
I arrive to emergency dload mode by pressing toether volup-voldown-home-power. Also I suceed to put phone in ramdump mode.I have tried all possible combinations but I do not suceed to arrive to normal download mode. Another question is only cyanogen exist via sd zip or also stock rom exist to install via sd zip? do you know? thanks everyone

if you can get into emergency download mode,, you should be able to flash a stock rom
u must go to download mode. these are 3 mothods
1.with 3 combination button
VOL DOWN + HOME + POWER BUTTON
since ur phone button is inverted, try to learn it where button is vol down, home & power
2. if your rom rooted. i think it can more easy
download "terminal emulator" and open it and write:
su
reboot download
3. install android sdk / adb
u can goto download mode with command:
adb reboot download

Dont know how to fix that, sometimes its a problem with adb.
Go to task manager press execute and open cmd , then type adb, wait for all commands to show and type adb devices, and see if anything is listed..

getting into recovery mode isn't hard -- you can use ADB tools and it's MUCH easier
the problem is getting into download mode -- I was told these are different ?

Can those who have 3 button disable try wht the OP suggested ? I dont understand wht u 2 are talking about :S
Yes getting into recovery/download is easy w/o 3 button when u have a working firmware, its when u don't u end up a with a $600 brick. If what OP says is true, it should allow u 2 enter recovery/download even in a situation like the one previously described.
Wow - if this works it could really help a lot of folks out... anybody without 3-button recovery want to try this?

Tried the procedure described but no luck at all (at least with my phone). Thanks for the trick though.
I'm already sick and tired of having to cross my fingers every time I flash a firmware via ODIN, knowing that I only have one shot to get it right.
Assuming if this procedure works, will the phone be able to get into recovery mode the next time without connecting to Odin?
If it doesn't, the phone is still going to be a brick when it fails to boot.
anyone got link for Odin4?
i'm still using Odin3
I tried this also. Doesn´t work for me.
Seems rather pointless plugging it in to Odin if the computer cannot recognize the phone, if it could...then we wouldn´t have a problem to begin with.
By a big mistake, I used a S5830 rom (S5830XWKT7) and odin gladly didit. Now the phone boots fine but i can't make calls. I want to get back to S5660 rom but I can't enter download mode; SAMSUNG logo just stays on when I press vol- + mode + power...
When i enter vol+ mode + power, it goes into some ARM9 RAW mode...
Is there anyway I can get this thing to get into download mode so I can load the original firmware?
I know I am stupid but, what is done is done and looking for solutions.
Try more button combinations, but better yet: install the Android SDK, and use the command adb reboot download. Should work.
Good luck,
Darkshado
You should press vol down, not up.
Edit.
Sorry, I misread your post, you already did that
Edit2:
I found a post by phiexz which might help (so all credits to him)

Hi everyone
As I said on the subject I have a Samsung Galaxy GIO that doesn't work properly. The phone wasn't booting, so a friend of mine tried to fix him using ODIN (because i don't know how to use it) but he used the Galaxy ACE drivers and the OPS file also so the phone now things that he is an ACE. It says Samsung Galaxy ACE when it boots and the volume UP, the home button, the camera don't work, and a few other stuff don't work also.
So what I came here to ask is if you guys now any other way to get the phone into the Download mode? Or now a way to restore everything without ODIN?
Before I think the combination was Volume DOWN, Home and POWER but know it doesn't work =/
Thank you all

And can you tell me where to find the drivers for the GIO? I've been searching for almost 2 days and I've only found the .ops file.
Some ppl told me that the Samfirmware ROM's don't need them, that we just check a box that says one package and select the ROM and the OPS file, is that right?

Pull battery, plug usb into computer, hold volume down, then while holding volume down plug usb into phone.
I've done it.
I didn't had access to the Download mode, but i had to the recovery one, so I installed the CM7 from there, then i plug it in to the computer and did as voetbalremco (thank you) told me to. (I got into the Download mode using the ADB and then I tried to install the stock rom that I've downloaded from Samfirmware, this time I used the proper .OPS file and ROM but after ODIN finished the phone wasn't booting all do it was already showing Samsung Galaxy GIO, not ACE and the buttons were are already working so I've installed from recovery another ROM.
Thank you all for the help. Without you guys I wouldn't make it.

wrong firmware upgrade
hello,
I was tried to do some "science" with my phone, upgrading the firmware with Flash ClockworkMod Recovery following instructions for Huawei U8160 in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259739.
After the image were downloaded, i have chosen to Backup Existing ROM (the old one, firmware 2.2.1), and the phone goes off without coming on again from that moment. I have no idea what might be happened but the phone remains off, like a dead body.
I'll appreciate a lot your help guys.

Hi guys!
I'm trying to bring back to life a Gio from a friend who somehow killed it trying to flash it.
Now the phone does nothing besides turn on the back light of the screen. I can´t put it in download mode or recovery mode.
Although Windows and Odin found the phone can´t flash it. I'm guessing because I can't get the phone to enter download mode.
Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
Thanks!
I tried to root my sgs3 today and wasn't paying attention and used the wrong guide. I used the stuff for the non-us phones. Now when I turn my phone on, the only thing that shows up is "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I've tried using kies to reset it but I had never used it previously so it is unable to connect to the phone. It basically has 2 states now, off and the one described. is there any way to fix this?

Enter download mode by pressing the three keys power button+home key+volume down.
If it doesnt work enter recovery mode by pressing power button+ home key+volume up
And if both won't work you might have to use a usb jig

listen to what people are saying to you. go into download mode. Your phone turns on and it should be able to go into download mode now. I wouldn't mess with command prompt if i were you or your friend. Once your in download mode download the stock image for your carrier and the correct phone model and flash it through odin

Just to clear things up. When the device says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." It is putting itself into download mode and you should see the normal download mode text at the top of the screen to clarify "Product Name, Custom Binary, ETC". The previous posters are correct, you must flash via odin. Follow the guide here very carefully and it should be fixed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Remember the recovery screen you are seeing IS download mode so pretend you already put the phone in download mode and follow it from there.
Best of luck!

Can someone tell me if i should see some kind of action when using Odin apart from the clock?
I'm already almost 1 hour waiting to finish and nothing happens.
I know the phone is connected, I know clock is running but nothing else.
On my phone i only get this:
"Emergency Dload Mode

SAMSUNG"
I get this after i've been waiting for 20 minutes and unplug it from the phone. After i get an image with a phone and a computer with a yellow sign on the midle, and then when i press the keys to get in to download mode i get this "Emergency message".
Please someone tell me if i should keep waiting or if this is wasted time...
