So ice cream sandwich is built to run on a Linux 3.0 kernel, and all of the current ROMs on the EVO are running in a modified 2.6 kernel. Now go look up the nexus s 4g with ics (it has similar specs to the EVO). It's built on a 3.0 kernel and it just flies.
I'm wondering if anyone is working on building a 3.0 kernel for the evo. I not, I would like to help try. Where should I look for that?

A kernel is definitely being worked on as we speak. Check out @Preludedrew on twitter. He has an update on the status of ICS for the EVO and is a front runner on the ICS builds.

Ok guys I'm new to the whole android os and smartphones/androids in general. Never had either. But I have a fully rooted htc evo 4g running cm7.1 paired with the tiamat 4.0.6 kernel and I'm wondering what version of the android is 2.3.4? I know 2.3.3 was gb and 2.2 was froyo but is this still gb or what?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yes this is still GB. It's just an updated version. From what I understand, 2.4 will be Ice Cream Sandwich, which is a hybrid GB/Honeycomb OS catered specifically for smartphones.
Ok but is there any way to get to honeycomb frim here?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I think I remember seeing a Honeycomb ROM floating around on here, but it's very unstable and missing a lot of features. It was mainly a test ROM I think. Honeycomb is mainly for tablets, but that's not to say it isn't possible. Your best bet would be to find the Honeybread theme for CM7. It's GB with a Honeycomb look and feel.

Don't think so, as Google hasn't released the source. Plus it's for tablets so kinda pointless IMO...
Any suggestions?

There won't be a honeycomb rom available for a phone until Google releases the source code, which won't happen until they release the next iteration of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich. ICS is supposed to combine Honeycomb and Gingerbread, so you may not see many honeycomb roms because there won't be a demand for them.
If you are looking for a tablet experience on your Evo, the best bet would be to try a rom called the "Flyer Express" it's in the development section, and it's making some good progress. But you won't see anyone building a honeycomb rom anytime soon.
Alright thanks.

Guys,
I am having a heck of a time finding a Kernel for 2.1 stock rooted Ginger. I am currently running JCase's Gingerbread Kernel but it doesnt give UV options. Any opinions or links.

If you're running Gingerbread, you're running 2.3, so look for kernels made for Gingerbread/2.3, not 2.1.

He's talking about sense 2.1, eclair for this phone doesn't exist.

As far as I know, jcase has the only publicly available oc kernel for stock 2.3, but it isn't uv/compatible with incredicontrol. What I mean by that is most of the roms have a custom kernel, but you can't just flash it on another rom. Unless you hark apart the .zip, and even then I can't garuntee it would work.

I'm looking for same even though I don't fully understand UV vs. UC. Does this squeeze out a little more battery life when you do both? SetCPU is good so far.

Yeah guys thinks for the info. Once I got to a computer I found jcases. Thanks again.

Jcase's kernal worked great at 1.6 when I was using RMK's Ginger Sense R1.
I am running cm7 and can't seem to get any good kernals to flash right. They are all aosp kernals but when I reboot the HTC incredible white logo screen just stays on and wont boot. Am I using outdated kernals? Can someone just throw me a couple links to good kernals that are compatible with CM7

Why would he use the incredikernel meant for ICS when he's running CM7, Gingerbread?
It's a GB kernel. It just has a few added things to help when its used on ICS.

It is a gingerbread kernel with ICS support. Just a few things needed to be tweaked to support ICS (without breaking anything gingerbread related).
Total sense head here. Tried decks pb series thru current but would like recommendation for best aosp roms and kernel combo's.

Amon ra 3.11
Nolimit06 slim and tweaked 4.67
Underworld 05
my list (with no surprises here, and no debates on #1 today please. you know who you are ):
1. SalvageMod
2. CM7
3. Decks 1.3d
4. Evervolv GB
5. Vaelek's GB
6. MIUI GB
all with a Tiamat 3.3.7 sbc
It's hard to swallow the fact that they were all stable ROMs over a year ago now...
Cm7 if you want wimax, aokp if you dont need wimax and want ice cream sandwich. If you go through sense withdrawal, then use the android pro widgets, they fulfilled my sense needs!
Thanks everyone for the recommendations. Will try out all.

I don't own this device. I want to install a new stable ROM on her phone. I cant test each one to determine for my self so I'm asking you guys. Which ROM ice cream sandwich or recent 4.1.1 jb do you guys recommend I install on her phone? Stability is #1. Thank you

I am currently running the 8/25/12 JB Unofficial CM10 Build by binary bishop. It is very smooth paired with the TDJ kernel. FYI, to get Camera working you need the kernel. The kernel also has OC up to around 1.8 GHz. I am currently keeping it at 1512 MHz. Hope I helped!

Jedi Mind Trick v7 is smooth for ICS

If stability is #1, I'd go with one of the ROMs that uses T-Mo's official as a base. There are a few, but 4.0.4 has some improvements in it, so I'd suggest right now ptmr3's Jedi Knight / Koodo or ROM Chicago (not the new JB release but the ICS one). Honestly, I've tried all the JB builds and they are still giving too many SODs and other freezes to be considered stable. I wish this weren't the case, but it is.
One other thought - TDJ's builds were always the most stable IMO. So you could wait for Evolution to get past pre-release stage or go back to one of his 4.0.3 builds... they were really stable and fast.
Thanks everyone for suggestions I appreciate it. My girl friend is still on ginger bread and having issues all the time I'll take your advice and install ice cream sandwich as it was in development longer with least amount of issues compared to 4.1.1
