WiFi automatically turns on when any service/app needs internet - Windows Phone 7 General

Hi All,
I found this weird after updating to Mango 8107. Wifi automatically turns on if the phone or any app/service requires internet connection. One example is when I go to messages, since it checks who's online in fb to chat, it turns Wifi on automatically. This happens everytime and it's killing my battery!
Thanks!

Hahahaha...

that is very unusual and WiFi doesn't drain any extra power unless its searching for hotspots.

Phantom 3G connection?

I'm using Schaps 4.30 on my tytn and I've noticed that my 3G connection is connecting automatically at random times, especially through the night, and as far as I can tell no programs are open that would use data. The only thing open is activesync. Then I check my bill to find out that it is in fact sending 1k-300k amounts of data. Since I don't have but a 1meg data plan this is pissing me off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, if you turn off your 3G connection capabilities via the comm manager, it will not only save u battery but none of those random connections will happen either. If u need it on u can easily turn it back on.

Well, sure, I could turn it off at night, I could turn off the whole phone as well. But I'd like to be able to receive my text and multimedia messages.
*edit* The 3G connection itself is not specific to the problem, I just meant a general connection.
Maybe today plugins, like weather, want to update their data? Disable all today plugins and see.

Lol, I know messages still come in through Edge, I wasn't meaning to be specific to the 3G connection, just that it's connecting in general.
It did it again last night. I'm going to flash to Schaps 4.31 and see if that helps.
Thanks for the advice guys.

Im assuming you have push mail enabled correct? (or an activesync account somewhere?)
Same Problem
I've got the same problem. I'm using the default HTC WWE ROM. At random times, sometimes twice a day, my "Rogers Internet" data connection (GPRS, EDGE or 3G) connects automatically and doesn't disconnect. If I catch it happening and click cancel, it tries again. It will not give up until the connection has been established for at least 10 seconds.
I've gone through every program I have, checking to make sure the auto update option is disabled (if there is an auto update). I do not use the direct push and therefore, activesync schedule is greyed out.
Any ideas?

AT&T decided that it was my phone and replaced it, sure enough that did the trick. I wouldn't imagine that it's always a hardware issue though, since many people seem to have had this same problem. Simple things like today plugins or maybe just hitting the "X" while signed into MSN Messenger instead of signing out before closing the program. Things like that could contribute to the problem. Hope you're able to get your fixed.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Had the same problems, resulting in extra fast battery drain.
I think I fixed it by flashing a newer radio ROM, but then again my battery still drains very fast since flashing TNT's 6.1 ROM.
Not so sure what's going on...

Please help: juicedefender messed up my desire

Hi,
can anyone please help me? I recently downloaded and used JuiceDefender on my Desire. I configured a setting that allows the phone to learn what are the Wifi networks that I like to connect to, based on location. I soon noticed that the phone randomely reboots so I uninstalled this application. Well, I completely lost control of my Wifi connection. Even if I turn it off in Android settings, the Wifi just starts by itself and starts scanning for networks, which completely drains my battery. I installed the application again and reversed the location wifi setting but it did not help.
I also did a backup then wiped up my phone, but the Wifi still starts by itself. Is there any solution to this?
Thank you!

and the did you restore your backup?? if so i woulfd advice to clear data juice defendre and maybe mail to dev'app
thank you for your answer.
First I uninstalled juicedefender. after seeing that wifi still gets connected, i backed up, i wiped all data on the phone and restored the back up, but without juicedefender (it was not included in the backup). As for the email to the developers, I did that, but I got a response like that: "I don;t think this is possible. Please install our beta application and enjoy." How helpful of them!
Some suggestions
I would be surprised if any app could reboot the phone, even if it crashed.
Do you use tasker or locale? They can start up the wifi.
You could try org.wahtod.wififixer
You could also use something like com.mapeapps.networkcounter to check what is using the wifi. You'll have to reboot after installing it to reset the counters, but then, if it locks on to a wifi straight away, you could see what's using the connection, and maybe work out what's starting it up?
Thank you, I will try what you said. Sometimes the Wifi is just starting, but sometimes it also starts when I open any application that requires an internet connection, even if my data connection is already on. I will come back to report on what you suggested. Thanks again!
I forgot to say that I am not using a tasker. I do have enabled the location services based on network, but I have always had that before, and if the wifi was disconnected in the android settings, then it stayed off. Now it just won;t stay off. The thing is that I don;'t even need wifi, I have a good data plan. But the damn wifi just starts by itself, scanning for networks all the time, draining my battery and interrupting my regular data connection. I am so frustrated! I never had problems with my Desire for one year, and now, after installing this JuideDefender, problems are coming in.
Ok there are a couple of things:
a) If your Wifi is still broken after you uninstalled JD it is most likely not JD who was / is the culprit. You even wiped, so how should JD do this?
b) JD does not turn Wifi back on when you manually turn it off (I am not 100% sure what happens during the training phase, while JD learns you Wifi-Locations, because in these 1-3 days JD might turn Wifi on in "random" locations to enhance the algorithm)
What does the log in JD say (anything about turning Wifi on?)?
Hello,
the JD log says: WIFI turned on by user.
Which of course I have not done. I think my phone is haunted. Leaving JD aside (even if this problem started only after I started to use JD), the problem still exists: my phone turns its WIFI connection by itself, even if I don't want that!

[Q] JB WiFi issue. I can connect but then: internet stops working through the house

Greetings! so, I installed Jelly Bean, super slick. I love it. HOWEVER: It seems to have some issues with Wi-Fi and it is not the usual issue of not connecting. I have tried re-installing, and (Just to double check that I had completely wiped the phone before installing). Nothing.
The issue is that, when I connect, it seems to wipe out the internet for my entire house after a second or two. It does not turn the internet OFF, it just makes it impossible for me to load any web pages. Any help?
I have set my wi-fi on the phone to a Static IP, and then set the IP to 182.168.2.1 (I tried a couple of others but none seemed to work

Sounds as if your phone is sending a packet storm.
Can you enable logging on your route (mileage may vary), and see what may be causing it? Maybe it's trying to go to a particular source?
Okay, I figured it out. I had to open up my router settings on my computer., and navigate to where I can see the connected devices. I look for my phone and beside it is an IP. I just set the Static IP to that and BAM. works like a charm!
But you have this issue also when ur screen was on???
For me wifi works. But when the screen is off my wifi turns off. Once I turn the screen on bam it's back. Although I have wifi turned on always in advanced settings.

I have the same thing going on.. Has anyone figured out a fix yet?

[Q] Unable to attend calls while at home.

When at home location. Irrelevant of whether connected to wifi or not. Mobile internet is on/ off. Every incoming call gets dropped automatically.
Even if I reset my phone and there is no app installed. No account synced still the issue persist. Any particular reason, why this might be happening ?

[Q] Wifi keep scanning for new networks

Hello everyone , so im experiencing this issue even after i updated my galaxy tab s T-705 to lollipop rom with the wifi settings which is the scanner keep scanning for new networks even tho its connected to my router and cant access any other of those that it finds when it scans for , here is the screenshot so you get a better idea of whats happening " http://i.cubeupload.com/NOGICz.png " i wana know if its normal or not cuz if im not sure that scanning thing could be draining extra battery for no reason , anyone has any idea why this is happening and if there is a way to stop it
I am still on kitkat, so i dont know about lollipop, I think there is a setting to turn off wifi scanning when the tablet is in sleep mode, But I dont know about wifi scanning when already connected already, Is it some type of wifi type of roaming setting, maybe it thinks you are walking around and it`s trying to get a better connection, what is your wifi signal like.

Nop I'm always in range of my router. Your saying you don't get that scanning every few sec in that setting page?
Sent from my SM-T705 using Tapatalk
Yep, I'm on Lollipop and am getting the scanning every few seconds even tho I'm perfectly connected to my home network. I don't see any way to turn it off thus far
As i said i am still on kitkat, I just checked my 10.5" and i get SCANNING in the Wifi page every five seconds, so i assume it is normal.

Yep I had that on Kitkat too and also on lollipop. Its normal I guess. I think you can do a few build.prop edits to reduce the interval in I'm correct.

I also am experiencing this version of tap talk.?
Yes its normal .
When you exit from WiFi setting it will turn off automatically.
Also take this tip to make your battery stay longer, uncheck open WiFi network box.
