Anyone else getting this error? After reading the two main errors seem to be faulty camera hardware and bar code scanning apps. I uninstalled my bar code scanner and the problem persists. There is a small dent next to my flash under the camera but this came with the phone and my camera worked for a while. Taking the battery out and putting it back in fixes the problem about half of the time, but only is good for one to two uses. I'm thinking of sending this in, but I'm waiting until the SGSII HD is out in case they offer to replace it with any phone. Wishful thinking, I know.
And here's the error:
Are you on the stock rom? I got that yesterday but a reboot fixed it.

Try doing a factory reset. Sometimes an app installed on the phone might screw up with a hardware's function. For example, I've always use Screebl Pro on my phone to let it control how my screen turns off. I decided to try their new Beta version. A few days later, I cannot seem to manually turn off my screen by pressing the power button. Every time I press the power button, the screen will come back on on its own. I can try up to 4-5 times before it eventually goes off. I though my phone finally broke as I tried uninstalling and reinstalling apps, changing settings here and there to no luck. I finally realized about the beta Screebl I had installed, and decided to disable it. The moment I did that, the phone was back to normal, no weird things happening to it.
So try doing a factory reset first before sending it back.
Strangely enough uninstalling Reconage has seemed to fix this. Can anyone else confirm it breaks your camera? The comments don't say it does so it must be something with the Nitro.
I get it too on cm7 all the damn time. I can record 1 video then after I stop, it messes up and I have to reboot to record again.
Any more definitive answer on this issue? My wife's Nitro HD has started giving this error in the last few days and no amount of rebooting seems to be fixing it. She is stock plus a few apps. I uninstalled nearly everything that uses the camera, reboot the phone, and still have the problem.
Alternatively, is there a way to see what apps were installed/updated by date? The last photo she took was on 6/13, so if we can figure out what apps have been updated since then that might help us get to the bottom of the issue.

Hi all -
I'm on AT&T, 100% stock, non-rooted, etc. I upgraded to JB last night via Kies without issue.
However, ever since the upgrade, my phone won't go more than 5 minutes without freezing and then crashing.
It's a very odd behavior... the screen will still animate. So, if I'm playing a game with a timer, the timer will still count down. But all touch input (including menu/home/back) does nothing. Home/back don't illuminate or do anything, but they do provide haptic feedback. Power button does turn the screen on/off.
Eventually after a few minutes, the lock screen comes up with the "tip" even though I've clicked to never show it again. However, it barely registers a swipe to unlock when it freezes again. At that point, it will usually self-reboot.
I've tried to enable some of the developer options to see if maybe there was a rogue program that was incompatible with JB, and maybe causing the issue, but I couldn't see any correlations.
I really want to avoid doing a factory reset if at all possible, as I have a game that I worked really hard on to beat a few levels, and I'd hate to lose my progress.
Anyone have any ideas on what I can try?
I should note that uninstalling programs is iffy... sometimes it works, other times it just uninstalls indefinitely.
Thanks!

This sounds somewhat familiar to my experiences with JB. I rooted right away with the stock JB and had freezing / crash issues. So I then went pure stock and had issues (un-rooted). I then tried a custom TW-based ROM called BlackJelly and had issues. Now I am on CM10.1 which is AOSP JB4.2.1 based and things are even worse.
There seems to be no JB ROM that is stable for my phone. Getting very tired of this.

Strangely enough, my issue ended up going away. I think it was a rogue program that needed it's dalvik cache rebuilt. Once uninstalled, the phone worked great. Not sure what app it was.
Woke up this morning and to my avail the rear facing camera is not working. The front camera works fine, but the rear camera has a black screen and after about 3 to 5 seconds the error message pops up and the camera app shuts down. I've tried everything but a factory reset to fix it; called LG for basic support, deleted snapchat (as I know this app is all jacked up on the G4), looked up old solutions for the same issue on G3 variant, all to no avail. Also, I tried running google camera and when that starts up I get the message "Can't connect to the camera."
No apps have updated. Last night before I went to bed it was working perfectly fine.
I've been scouring the net about this happening on the G4, I've seen a couple posts (one of them was posted just today as well) about the issue.
I guess the only next step is to do a factory reset (UGH.) So I guess I'm asking 2-3 questions: A) Has this happened to you, and if so, any solutions? B) What to the best FREE back up software for the factory reset.
BTW, I am on a Verizon Best Buy model..
Thaaaaanks!
Have you tried wiping camera data?
Use the built in LG Backup tool.

Same thing happened to me. I restarted the phone, cleared the cache, factory reset, ran it in safe mode, etc... but nothing worked. I just went to the Verizon store and exchanged the phone. My phone right now is working fine.
You can always open the back and see if the ribbon came loose off of the board. It'll take like 5 minutes to do and if that's the issue, you'll avoid having to factory reset and exchange and all...

Ya, I checked everything. It seems like the camera went out. Did a complete factory reset and back up and the camera is doing the same thing. Even the backup lost a BUNCH of data I had on it. What a shame. Had the phone about 2 months and the camera goes out....hardly used the camera much, maybe once a day. And if it goes this quickly..............do I smell a note 5 in my future?

I can tell you my experience with the K zoom. when i got a similar message.
I decided i wanted to rearrange the way the different modes were displayed, instead of one line and scrolling have them display in a grid. There was an option. Did that and all looked good. Went to a party a few hours later and kept getting this message. no modes were available except auto.
So whatver photos i took were in auto and not able to tweak setting the way i would have liked.
Got back the next day and started checking. And then i realised it was that damn setting that crashed the camera.
My guess as to what the problem is ? a software bug. think back to whether you changed any settings in options and revert them.
Otherwise it could be something else maybe hardware related.

I never messed with the settings. Heck, I only once tried Manual mode. Always in auto.
Ya wake up and the camera is shot? This is unacceptable.
Do you use any apps that make use of the camera, you mentioned snapchat, any other messaging apps ?
Some app has messed with it somehow is my guess.
If anyone has the Verizon variant with the update that was released a bit ago, whats the software version again? I forgot it. Mine is VS98611A. The phone wont let me update to the newest unless, that is the newest....

The only other app I had that uses the camera is Instagram and I guess Twitter? But I uninstalled them both, reset the phone, and tried it again before doing the factory reset.
And after a factory reset what is the result ?

Camera still doesnt work.
I did just notice something....when I have the rear facing camera activated (which crashes the app.) What I assume is the laser focus (the red lights next to the camera) stays on, solid, until the app crashes.
Just took the phone to verizon, they are sending me a phone. The guy wasn't sure if it was a new or refurbished phone. Wtf? How do they not know?
Happened to my wife's Samsung Grand Prime, camera couldn't launch as it kept saying media server failed.
Googled and came up with a solution.
Take out the battery for 10 minutes and reboot.
All good.
Try it.
I have the G4 but didn't have this problem.
Cheers!

Normally when phones are sent out, they're refurbished. They send out refurbished phones before brand new phones. That's just how companies work.
I've wondered how the refurbs are checked. Especially if the phone was returned because of an intermittent problem, and the store didn't clearly document what the problem was.
Would the refurb group look at it, decide/assume it was fine, and just send it back out?
Checking over a phone with an obvious problem, like a dead screen, is easy, but not all scenarios are that clear-cut.
I just don't understand why they would send a referb to me when it was not at all any fault mine. I can understand if the customer lost, broke the device. This is a hardware issue.
so...

Last time I sent it back to LG for repairs, they sent my same phone back. Don't do it through Verizon if you don't want a refurb.
If you're having reboot problems please post here - if there are problem apps or bad devices out there it would be good to know!
Got a new Nexus 5X yesterday for my partner. Plugged it in and charged all day (oh what patience). 10pm started setup and added account to it. Phone immediately did an update which succeeded. Then it started to install the saved apps from the Google account, about 50 in all. After all the apps were installed I handed it over to her to play and log into all those apps with logins. Tedious.
Within about 30 minutes she tried to take a photo and it rebooted. Then a bit later she was using it and it rebooted again. Before going to be it rebooted a few more times. Then again this morning. There wasn't one particular app or other that was in use when these crashes happened. During the day she saw a message about "Google needs to restart". Also the camera often comes up with an all black screen and can't be used.
I called Google tech support and they wanted to do a factory reset and maybe a cache partition wipe. They would also like to investigate if a rogue app is causing the crashes by using it without any apps installed. Because reinstalling apps is so tedious I decided to have her do a cache partition reset I'm awaiting news. I'm hoping we don't have to do the other... I can't imagine how a bad app could be causing such repeated crashes (well I can, but it just shouldn't happen). That's lame...
It would really help if it was easy to get a crash log and find out the cause - unfortunately unless you're rooted this doesn't seem to be easy, and may well be impossible.
I've been having a lot of similar-sounding issues with my 5X. It's never rebooted while I was using it, but once or twice a day I'll pull it out of my pocket and it will be off, awaiting the unlock pattern to boot up.
The camera has been atrocious as well. I've seen the black screen you describe, tons of rotation lag, hanging, etc. Not just in Camera, but in other apps using the camera (such as when attaching a photo to a Hangout). Hoping this is something software-related and not a hardware problem.
I've had mine spontaneously reboot twice so far, both times I've pulled it out of my pocket and it required the PIN to unlock, then it booted up. I'm a bit concerned, as I have no idea when this happened, and, since it's encrypted a reboot essentially puts me offline until I notice it.
I just now had mine reboot during active use for the first time. I was long-pressing a wifi network in order to forget it (which is another 5x problem I keep having—wifi turns itself off or connects to the wrong networks).
My 5x was working fine and the crashing started happening yesterday...
they only app that i recently installed before the crashes started was firefox... are you guys using firefox by any chance???
Mine is still working fine, I do not have Firefox.
Same problem for me when using Firefox. The phone seems to crash and reboot when loading news websites containing photos and videos.
Not seen the issue when not using Firefox.
I've had my nexus 5x since mid/late November 2015. I've had the problem described below happen prior to today, and more than once.
Today, I cant turn my phone off - it seems to be in the middle of a reboot... the four coloured circles (google logo?) with colours going round and round. I powered it off cos it had started going slow... thought a reboot might fix the problem... but now its not starting and I cant even turn it off or do anything with it.. I've tried pressing the power button, I've tried holding the power button down, and I've tried different combinations... nothing seems to make a difference... (has been in that state of un-useablity for at least 30 mins now)
Anyone else also having wi-fi issues where facebook has an error and "cant connect" ?
I had the same thing happen and returned the phone, it's the only solution I found. I factory reset multiple times, called up Google and they told me to safe boot. Right.. I was completely stock and it rebooted multiple times / day and I know what I'm doing too, for the most part anyway. Got a replacement device and it has not once rebooted no matter what I do. Camera, Chrome random apps caused a reboot, it's not that. It's a defective device and you need to get it replaced period.
I have the same thing and can't sent it back to google because I live outside the US.
I believe it is a manufacture defect as I tried everything with no success really annoying.
Stuck with a brick...

I used my phone completely stock for weeks and had zero issues, whereas I have a friend who ordered and received the phone at the exact same time (likely same mfg batch) and had issues. Difference between us two is that I'm a minimalist and only have about 50 apps installed, and he has a ton that he rarely uses and restores them every time.
I know it seems ridiculous, but having an android phone gives you more customization and your apps more power of the phone, so it's completely feasible for ONE rogue app to destroy performance and/or battery.
You guys might all want to try uninstalling apps one by one and figuring out which apps are killing performance. In particular, check out the running services (developer options -> running services) and see which apps are constantly running, since those are more likely to be the ones causing issues.
For example, I've used firefox (for adblocked browsing) for weeks recently, and can definitely say it's a pretty slow app, so if you're having issues on it, you may want to just use chrome or lightning browser.
I just ordered a replacement as well. Mine would reboot about 1 to 2 times a week right after the fingerprint unlock. Annoying as hell today because I was in the middle of a conf call.

Some background info.
I bought my pixel XL from the Google store and I believe it came with the 63L build out of the box. I have since made it a point to completely wipe and fastboot flash the latest image Everytime an update is release, right now I am on the 26U build. The only thing I have done to my phone (and these bugs happen before and after) is bootloader unlock and root.
The bugs.
Every once in a while, my volume controls will quit working. I notice it happen more if I cast to my Chromecast and play a song or video (seperate) on my device. I'll hit the volume button and literally nothing will happen. To fix this I usually have to turn the display off, wait a few seconds, wake it back up, then the controls work fine again. I do not believe it is a hardware issue because i can fix it Everytime it happens.
The second bug, probably the most annoying, is that my nav bar will become completely unresponsive occasionally while in landscape orientation. Say I'm watching a video on YouTube in full screen, if I swipe to pull out my nav bar and hit the home/recent/back button, nothing will happen. I will see the animation however no vibration (feedback) or a action occurs.
This happens in games, YouTube, web browsers, doesn't matter as long as my phone is in landscape mode. Also note that when this happens, my device refuses to rotate back to portrait. This leaves my only solution (same as the volume bug) to turn off the display, wait a few seconds, and then I back on. Sometimes, however, this don't even work, and I'll have to jump straight to settings from my lockscreen to force the phone to portrait where the functionality of the nav bar returns.
I've contacted google, they run me through the typical steps "delete cache, have you tried a reset, update to the latest software", but nothing fixes it. They have told me repetitively it's not a common problem and it's not a problem that's worth rma'ing over.
I've been discovering my pixel has many small issues that no one else has. Such as the horrible transfer speed explain in my earlier thread, these bugs above, refusing to charge when the device is off, etc.
Has anyone had similar problems?
@noidea24,
I've had none of those issues. In fact, my Pixel XL has been flawless.
Not good. I guess I'm going to try and force a RMA.

Sorry to nit, but when I read the statement above I can't help but wonder if you actually did a factory reset. Reason I say that is you stated "have you tried a reset" and you didn't explicitly state that you did.
I kind of doubt the responsiveness stuff you're referring to is hardware related, it's probably software.
Whether or not a rogue app is affecting your device or a root app is impossible to determine without doing a factory reset and carefully adding one app/change at a time until the problem comes back. It's a PITA but that's what I'd do first to rule out hardware, and I'd simply run email and messaging apps unrooted for at least 24 hours to rule out hardware issues before I start loading up my favorite apps.

A factory reset is far from a pain in the ass, and yes, i have done it many times. the only things that makes it suck is when i have to transfer files back to my device because (as mentioned) i have terrible transfer speed from pc to device.
i have literally done everything i can to make this devices worth the price, and things are only getting worse. Since the post (later that night) i factory flashed once again, and re locked the bootloader. No root, No extra apps, hell, the only apps i had on my phone to begin with were facebook messenger, and that pixel car racer, i dont use anything else. ive had an even worse bug come in where my phone completely freezes when opening google camera and swiping to the video section. ill have to hold power until it force resets.
ive been with xda since my Motorola droid, Ive built roms for the community for my lg g2 and my nexus 6. hell, i even built kernels for my 5x (not public), so im a little past your average user complaining about some things that dont work due to user error. these are legitimate device flaws and malfunctions, and i was simply asking if anyone else has experienced them. and since it seems no one has, i have deemed my device faulty. now i have to come up with $600 for a service hold to get it replaced.
My experience with Googles first official flag ship has been pathetic, and im hoping that this replacement device i get (eventually) will persuade me not to go back to my 6p.
Well if that's the case then yeah I hope a replacement device will solve your issues. Sounds like it will.
Didn't mean to rile you up, just looking for clarity.
Good luck!
My wife's pixel 3xl recently started having this problem. It is completely unmodified stock, locked bootloader, reports it is on the latest update.
Wifi and bluetooth won't stay on. A reboot fixes it, but eventually they shut off again. Sometimes it lasts a few days after a reboot, sometimes less. Once they shut off, they can't be turned back on again. You can try and toggle them on with quick settings, but it doesn't actually work. Only a reboot fixes it.
I tried a factory reset a couple of weeks ago. That seemed like a cured it for about a week, but it's back.
It's a pretty aggravating problem. If I can't fix it soon, she's probably going to end up with a new phone. Anyone else seen this, or better yet, know a fix? I've done some searching in the forum and on the web in general, but I didn't find anything informative other than one webpage that talked about some pixels, especially the 4a, having problems like this after updating to android 11.
Well, I got fed up with android 11, and downloaded the last android 10 factory image.
After flashing that and factory resetting, I'm having different problems. Now the phone takes like 5 seconds for the screen to come on when waking with the power button.
I'm starting to think this thing is cursed, or has hardware problems. Anyone have any ideas?
Edit: I have no idea why this would make a difference, but I switched unlocking method from swipe to none this morning and that eliminated that long wake-up delay. It's back to fast and responsive like it should be.
Now to see if wifi and bluetooth are going to behave better on android 10.

You can try wakelock V3 and select 'CPU' and set as autostart on boot in the app settings to see if it wakes faster.
I can't believe that it worked for me. I was facing the same issue and I got frustrated. I was just serching and came across a reel showing fix regarding it. In that video person switched off his pixal tapped it on his leg (backside of phone) and then started it and keep tapping it on his leg while starting. It's really weird but I gave it a try. And can't believe it worked. Wife and Bluetooth both fixed now. Getting "on" now.
