today i applied an XO skin and i applied the wet applicator only once and squeegeed the water out just like the instructions says and now for some reason, my power button has stopped working and sometimes it does work but it acts as if im holding down the power button and my power menu options pop up..... i bought this device unlocked from Expansys_USA and their customer service is done for the weekend....should i try putting it in rice?? im freaking out right now....this is not cheap, and i am seriously gonna be pissed if it was cuz of the XO....HELP.... :'(
How soon after applying the skin did you put your battery back in the device and try to turn it on?
Usually, you have to wait at least 24hours after applying a wet skin to have enough time for it to dry safely.

This happened with my Captivate some time ago. I think it might have been from dropping it. The SAME EXACT thing happens when trying use the power button on the captivate. Sometimes it work fine for a few pushes, other times it will act like I held it down on a push, and sometimes when just holding it, it pops the power menu up. I think the contact inside the switch is busted and floating around. When it touches, it activates. Therefor, it can be activated by shaking the phone. I can replicate it on my Captivate.
Those buttons are pretty much tiny little switches on the PCB. They probably got water in them if they work sometimes, and then don't work - and sometimes seem stuck on.
You'd need to clean the switch with some contact cleaner of some kind... but you'd need to take apart your phone most likely. You don't really want to get that all in your phone, or on the screen. It might ruin the coating on the screen, or damage other stuff depending on what type of cleaner you used.

Hopefully this fixes his. I still have a captivate with a non working power button. Cleaning it didn't help.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
it is easy to fix once you disassemble the housing you just pry open the power button and clean the contacts

you remove the black tape around the power button so you can see the contacts just clean them and you are good
bear in mind that you don't have to disassemble the boards like the video , just the housing
Thanks guys! I left it in rice overnight and now everything seems to be working perfect! Oh man....I was so scared! I bought this mofo unlocked! Its funny how when u actually try to protect it, it just ends up getting worse! I'm done with wet applies, I'm keeping it naked! Lol
Edit: its still doing the same thing again...spoke too soon......well kinda....its not doing it nearly as much

over the past few weeks some of the buttons (namely left soft key, up and left) have stopped working, i've tried numerous roms just incase but it's definatley a hardware issue, now, i've dismanted the phone using the diamantos guide to see if anything jumps out at me, gave the phone a damn good cleaning whilst i had the chance, put it back together....but nothing, everything seems to be in order, all components in their rightful place but i still cant work it out, does anyone know if this is a common problem or if theres a fix as i've been unsuccessful in my searches.
actually, i just found the solution and it worked a treat, thanks anyway people.
btw, if anyone would like to know what i did then i'll be more than happy to share the solution.

I'll be more than happy
please share your solution with us, I have the exact same problem
ok, no problem, heres what i did.
before you start please be aware that this is a very delicate procedure and you should take care as this may naff up your beloved trinity.
ok, i first disassembled my trinity using the dimantos guide located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311463,
now, when you get to the keyboard / button pcb take it out if, you look closely you'll notice theres a thin adhesive plastic cover covering the metalic buttons, very very carefull peel this back (i used a sharp knife to get to it), making sure not to completely remove it, try to only expose the underneath of the buttons in question, you'll see that the buttons come away with the plasic leaving the underneath exposed, now, using a cotton bud and some lightly applied alcohol clean the contacts then when all is done, replace the plastic and make sure its firmly pressed back down you may notice it making a different, kind of sharper clicking noise when depressed than before meaning its worked, repeat for all buttons.
i think whats going on here is the gum or glue from the plastic film has "leaked" if you will, onto the plates meaning theres no contact from the buttons, this would also account for the very slight change in sound when you now press the button.
i found this info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-289737.html
i have the same problem with the front hardware keys. They last around 1 year, i had them changed under warranty the first time but now they are failing again.
Thank you! now i just have check for tools and some courage because i fear damaging my good old trinity.

....hi to all dear friends!!after half an year of very hard work my trinity has the same problem....only central botton working but,the superior two, works if I do an hard reset!very strange!changing a lot of different roms, from w 5 to w 6.5 the problems doesn't solve...!
- I'd like to make your same operation but I'd like to know first if you too have they working on hard reset before trying....
thanks a lot and merry christmas!
yes, even after a hard reset they work for me, its as if it was brand new, bare in mind you may have a different problem so if your gonna try this, TAKE YOUR TIME.

I tried doing this but found no plastic cover above the metallic buttons. Maybe it's because mine went for repair with this problem before, dunno.
I don't think i can mess with the metallic part so i guess i'm stuck with this unless i buy a new keyboard.
it's more of a very very thin laminate, like sticky back plastic than a cover, it should definately be there unless they replaced the PCB with a different model, otherwise the metalic buttons would just fall away. Again, they may have used a different version of the PCB. You can actually buy the PCB and replace it yourself. (here http://cnn.cn/shop/p3600dopod-d810-keypad-p-1825.html )
So i go my device about 3 weeks ago. last night i noticed the volume down button wasn't working, so i took off the battery cover and this is what i've found.
Theres a plastic piece that goes over the button and looks like the one for volume down as slid into the device, the volume up & PTT button's plastic cover looks to be going loose as well.. :/
I know i can take it into the device support center but they'll probably give me a refurbished device which i dont want. I payed for a new device, its fairly new and i should get a new device!
Anyone else experienced this?
ouch. it looks like your other buttons are a little broken too. how hard are you pressing those? ive had my tilt 2 for a month and a half and the buttons are still perfectly aligned and feel brand new.
Looking at my case and the vol/ptt buttons inside it doesn't even look like it'd be possible to push hard enough on the outside to cause that. However all three buttons do have the same internal plastic piece which is probably why the other buttons are going.
If you're under 30 days can't you return the device? I thought AT&T had a 30 day return period.
My volume buttons didn't break off like yours, but they did lose tactile feedback after a while. That is, when I press it, it doesn't click and bounce back as strong as before. They felt dull when I press them.
So what I did was put layers of scotch tape against the inside of the back cover where it would come in contact with the volume buttons. (Not sure if I explained it properly). Now my buttons work beautifully again.
If others are having this problem, please let me know. I can post some pics so that you can try.

I'm having that with mine right now actually, just started noticing it in the past week. I'll give your trick a shot, thanks!
so i got pretty drunk last night (almost like every night but thats a different story ) and i remember dropping my phone on the pavement. And just now i noticed the volume down button has fixed itself from the drop! haha
i tried manually moving the cover piece back over the button when it first broke and that didn't help. so i guess the solution is to drop your phone!
So the touchscreen no longer works on my phone. So that pretty much means i can't unlock my phone, which means i can't shut it down, which means it's useless.
During startup, i got the very generic services.exe error, which leads me to believe that since there was an error with the exe, the service used to poll the touchscreen isn't running.
So before you ask:
- I have power cycled the phone several times (still same result of nothing
working)
- Windows Mobile upgraded to Verizon's release of WM 6.5
- I have not installed any new software in over a month
- It has never gotten water on it
- I have hacked the registry, about 6 months ago when i got the phone
- I did mess up one of the registry keys, replaced the key name with a
't' and couldn't remember what it originally was, but the phone hasn't
acted up. Can't remember what the location of key is either, but i
was trying to remove the vibration whenever you touched the
screen. There are two locations for it, and i eventually found the
proper one though.
So if anyone has any ideas short of hard-resetting the phone, please let me know. Is there any sw that can run my phone via the computer?
Thanks
Touch screen not working
I have to got the same issue, ever tryed hard rest.
flashed new rom. still nothing...
Solution
Okay, I've just had this problem with an HTC Touch, and I think this works with any HTC that has a "digitizer" rather than an all-in-one touchscreen (I think newer phones have digitisers).
I'm not sure if this will always work, but I've just done it - sometimes the inactive touch screen is "broken" because the layers are stuck together (so the phone can't tell where the touch is, hence unresponsive). With mine, I looked at the screen side on and could see a kind of "oily" patch in the light.
The solution is to get masking/gaffa tape - the very sticky brown one. Stick it down on the screen/digitizer and then keep pulling it off - this pulls the layers from each other. I kept repeating this lots before it worked - and in the end I pulled the top layer completely off (I think you should pull from the top of the phone, as the layers need to be attached at the bottom of the screen/digitizer). Once it pulled away, I gently lay it back down (after panicking!!) and hey presto it started working again.
Good luck!
I have the same problem, oily stuff migrating from a corner inward....
And you're suggesting we do what now? I'm not following this.....
He suggests you put masking tape onto your screen, to pull the stuck layers apart. If this doesn't work, you can always replace the digitizer.

Unbelievable...this just worked for me too! I gave up on this phone 6 months ago...now back to flashing ROMS, yeah!
Thanks a lot!
It is now!
Thank You! And I didn't even have the proper tape, just some cheap sellotape...did the trick though!
Thanks again, You Rock Dude!
Very Much Appreciated!
(And a Big Thanks to Andrew for the heads up!)
If I had read this 3 weeks ago i wouldn't have wasted 35$ on a new screen.
It gets worse, the new screen doesn't work. But this 1cent fix DOES.
The new screen was never calibrate-able.

I have exactly the same problem! The touchscreen of my xperia mini is not responding at all!
Can you please be more precise? What do you mean "pull off the layer of the screen?" Do I need to disassemble the phone and mess with the hardware? That sounds pretty scary!!!

I think he had some sort of a screen protector that was interfering with the screen...
You can try to run your fingernail along the edge of the screen - between the bezel and the actual touchscreen. Quite often something stuck in there is causing the touchscreen problem (or there is a deeper hardware issue and the touchscreen is just not functional).

I'm in the same boat. Normally I wouldn't be afraid of a little digitizer replacement. But on the TP2 it looks like every single bolt and screw needs to be replaced and in the only video I could find about it, the guy broke the lcd in the process.
Hoolexer
W0W.... You are awsome,,, Now I can sleep at night. Thank You So Much
salterlee you are a genius. I just had this same problem. I putted some masking tape to the screen, didn't had to pull the front layer out, and it worked wonderfully.

Same thing here.
I used a suction cup from my bathroom mirror that held a razor or something and made sure it was decently moist so once i stuck it to the screen i could slide it up and down the entire surface and worked like a charm..... no tape to throw away.
thanks for the inspiration cause i was gonna make this touch into a throw.
My phone has been going great and giving no issues. Byt the other evening suddenly the toicuh screen stopped being responsive!!! Totally randomly. No drop or spil or anythign like that, no new software or roms recently.
When you open it the keyboard still lights up, and after a hard reset, you can navigate a bit using the keys. But ZERO response from the screen!!!
As i say, this is even with a hard reset!!! I also tried using masking tip to pressure the screen in case somethign was stuck.
Ok it mighty be the digitiser, or a loose connection. Im hoping not.
Has anyone experienced this or similar and is tehre anythign else i can try before i take the plunge and get someone to look at it??? (its out of warranty unfort)
Ouch
Sorry to hear. It happened to me months back. It started with very uncalibrated clicks... making corner clicking impossible to compensate for.
I've recompensated, but that didn't last long - and it eventually degraded to no touch screen. With insurance, I did get a refurbish for my woes.
I flashed Stock ROM and relocked. No luck.
I'd still back up everything.
Reformat SD card.
Reflash stock ROM
Relock the device - all to see if it helps.
I did have a similar recent problem - but in this case it's because I was using a clip on hard case front that must've been putting pressure on the touch screen.
Hopefully one of these helps you out. Good luck
When my screen stopped responding it was due to a more physical thing.
I read this somewhere and tried it, worked instantly!
You have to get your finger nail under the screen (try pushing your nail into the edge of the screen from the side) and lift the screen up a bit.
This worked for me. If you think its a physical and not software issue give it a shot.
I have had the same problem.
I bought new touch screen on ebay (about $15) and after replacement the device works well.
stop everything !!!!!
if you have Google G Mail set up on your phone remove it and it will fix it's self
somthing google / G mail is doing the tilt 2 doesn't like
causing the "Sleep Of Death"
Hi guys
I have tried all the above
Last resort is i got sprite backyup to work
BUT HOW THE HELL DO YOU HIT "NEXT" OR "OK" FROM THE KEYBOARD AS SCREEN DOESNT WORK????

It's actually very simple to fix - slide a finger nail under the plastic by the speaker and gently pry the digitizer up. Then, put it back. You dont need to remove it totally from the phone. It will flex back to its flat shape as soon as the glue releases. As soon as you stick it back down, the touch screen will work again.
Broken glass, and I am too cheap and stubborn to pay 150. So I did it myself, and it was a complete success for about 1 hour. Now with headphones, USB, or sometimes just cause, the antenna wont register a signal, wifi works, and it resets after about 30 seconds. To be honest I am certain I used too much heat. I just opened it up and used air to blow it out in case dust was the problem. So far I have had to turn it off to charge it. Any ideas?
I just took the case off and removed the power button and volume toggle on a whim. For at least 5 minutes things have been fine.

So it started acting up tonight without buttons Opened it up, blew it out (found a dog hair) put it back together, and now it is fine with buttons. Moral of the story, a fun and easy project, screw Asurion, screw sprint, and screw LG's crap design that can't take a 3 foot impact. Love the phone though, will be buying a case.
