AT&T Throttled me @ 2GB - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

It looks like end of road for at&t unlimited data users. I am finally hit with throttled right after 2gb of usage on my GNex. In tiered plan the same $30 can get you 3gb. So stupid move by at&t and manipulating unlimited users to forfeit their grandfathered plans.
BBB, consumerist or where do we go?

Anywhere but the Galaxy Nexus forums because this issue isn't about the Galaxy Nexus.

Yep, the days of unlimited data are numbered. We're at the mercy of the carriers as they struggle to roll out expensive technology and subsidize expensive phone manufacturer pricing.

Be sure to contact them and complain, also file an FCC complaint (I did.)

Man, I'm glad I left ATT. I pay the same price for both my line with 5GB data (G Nex) on T-Mo and my line with unlimited LTE (Droid Charge) on Verizon that I paid for a single line at ATT.

I got throttled too.
I need to call them and file a FCC complaint.
Using different apn doesn't work. Even swap the sim back to iPhone 3GS still won't lift the block.
I heard changing apn on skyrocket could get around the block, is it?

Yeah, ATT customers should just speak with their wallets and take their business elsewhere. I suggest the $30 pre-paid Walmart plan on T-Mo.

Doesn't T-Mobile throttle over 2gb's as well?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

It's all in the fine print. They have customers by the short hairs.

I *think* the way they word those things is they reserve the right to throttle or shape traffic for an account if it appears that they will go over their plan amount before the end of the billing cycle.
I doubt the FCC or anyone else can do much about it.

I get 5GB on my unlimited plan. And T-Mobile is was pretty transparent that the throttle was 5GB.

I got throttled on Cincinnati Bell Wireless after using 100mb of roaming data. Yep you read it right only 100mb. This was also on an unlimited plan. I switched to Verizon almost immediately, just glad I had not purchased my peta-band GN yet like I had planned.

I do give credit to them for being up front about it.
I'm happy VZW hasn't starting pulling this crap. I subscribe to both unlimited data and unlimited tethering and average about 15-20gb's a month. Last year I left AT&T and paid an ETF to jump ship to Verizon while they still offered unlimited. I'm happy I did.

i cant even use pass 2GB on my VZN unlimited 4g....

For anyone that has been throttled, have you noticed a loss in battery life?
Because they are throttling you it now takes longer for the phone to download anything so it spends more time transmitting and receiving. Then you have lower battery life. Thats my theory anyways.

[Vzw]Just found out shared data is great for me

I've been dreading this whole shared data business. Well today while ordering my replacement gnex they mentioned the plans to me so I let them do their whole pitch. Ends up if I suck it up and say buhbye to my unlimited data I can get a way better deal.
Right now I pay $280. Two smart phones at $90 each a dumb phone for $50 and a charge of $50 for some **** about having unlimited plans. If I switch to 10 gigs a month I pay $210. This is great for me since I use roughly 6 gigs tops and the other line uses maybe 1. Just my experience.

Yea. Apparently having unlimited talk and text makes each line $90 and its an extra $50 charge on top so Verizon can make sure they make as much as they did when you went over. I'd be hopping ship for T-Mobile if it worked here lol

How? The guy above you paying $160 has Sprint. Sure it is uncapped and unthrottled but when your peak download is 2mbps in peak hours it Sucks. The guy paying $30 a month gets 5GB of HSPA+, unlimited texts and 100 minutes.

I pay about 235 a month.

Has anyone tried adding someone to their family plan to get unlimited data?

Not possible. Adding someone now means they have to be added under the Share Everything plans. They're not giving unlimited to any new lines or after upgrades.

no. you have the choice, you can do either the share everything OR give them a tiered plan and everything else on the plan stays the same.
unlimited is not possible either way however.

Verizon and AT&T are not feeling threatened by T-Mobile and Sprint unlimited data. Postpaid subscribers are at an all time high and churn is at an all time low for both companies. As much as you think it's going to affect the market, it's going to take a lot more than T-Mobile offering unlimited data for Verizon and AT&T to start seeing customers leave.

Unless carriers like Sprint and TMo somehow manage to expand their network immensely then VZW and AT&T will not feel threatened. At that point Sprint and TMo would eventually moved to tiered plans as well since more people would move over eventually.
I'll leave Verizon after my contract if I can't get a nexus on Verizon in 2014. In a perfect world I could buy an unlocked nexus from Google and use it on vzw. Maybe in 2014 they'll offer this.

I like your optimism, but don't hold your breath. Verizon and at&t have no incentive to offer unlimited plans. More people are getting smartphones, which means more network traffic, which means investing more money into infrastructure and less profit.
we were talking today about this at work. I am on a plan with my brother who has Unlimited data with Verizon and I have a 2GB plan till DEC 2014. My co worker says he still has unlimited data and he recently added his wife to his plan. She did not upgrade a phone and just got on his plan. He said they added her, she got a new number and was using a phone that wasn't brand new now. I am wondering when my plan comes up in DEC if I can do the same with my brother and he can add a line and give me unlimited data. Any thoughts out there??

So I have my Unlocked T999. I was all set to pop a sim for Staright Talk into it to get the $45 unlimited everything Vs. my $80 a month I pay now to TMO. Many people have said I will get throttled if I use a lot of data. I use about 8 gigs a month. Has anyone been throttled, and or not?

You don't get throttled on straight talk you get your service shut off. Read their terms of service it says not to exceed 2gb in one month and like 100 mb a day (I think) but 8gb is too much for straight talk. I too was wanting to switch but googled a lot. I think you need to read Straight Talk's terms of service. Nowhere does it mention "2GB" or "100MB". It doesn't mention any limit at all except no streaming.
People using Straight Talk have determined that it is safe to use 100MBs a day, no more than 2GBs a month. There are exceptions to this rule, some people get away with 3-12GBs.
I would go with AT&T GoPhone. They offer unlimited everything for $50 a month. You can find the $50 refill cards for $47.50 on eBay.
I've been using GoPhone for 14 days now. I used about 350MBs my second day. I didn't get throttled or kicked. With 16 days left, I've used 1.35GBs. Still no throttling.
The catch is that you must use a T-Mobile phone. If you use an AT&T phone, they'll block the data.

Of course it doesnt say a data cap in their TOS if it did they couldnt advertise "unlimited data". Just google it. They block you after so many bytes.
But how did you get that data to work on the ATT go plan? did you buy the go phone then swap SIM cards? I figured if the IMEI didnt match the SIM then they would block it. Mind pming me and explaining? As i dont know if XDA would like if you posted in the general forums. Just being safe. lol

I'm loving the coverage. AT&T has way better coverage vs. T-Mobile.

I activated the sim using my One S's IMEI. I purchased a regular orange/white AT&T sim from eBay for $10. AT&T GoPhone will block data if you use an AT&T branded phone, or some international phones. The only phones that have consistently worked for me are rmobule phones. I purchased a T-Mobile S III last week.
Basically, activate your GoPhone sim with your T-Mobile phone IMEI, and use it in a T-Mobile phone.
I've swapped my sim into AT&T phones and then back into my T-Mobile One S, and data still works.

Straighttalk doesnt have network issues because they dont have a network to begin with. They are an att mvno atleast with the att sim. They WILL throttle you if you abuse the per day limit of MBs and tether. I can validate this as ive been warned twice already for going over the limits (which are no where to be found even though they say its in the ToS) and tethering. I am currrently being throttled to 0.15mbps for more than a week. Everytime i call and ***** about being throttled they warn and unthrottle me but start to do it again a few days later. If you dont think im being throttled please explain how my connections download speed is always 0.15mbps and why the customer service rep told me i was being throttled for being in violation with att's terms and conditions?! you can see my previous speeds vary from 2-8mbps and when im throttled it is garbage.

Straighttalk doesnt have network issues because they dont have a network to begin with. They are an att mvno atleast with the att sim. They WILL throttle you if you abuse the per day limit of MBs and tether. T Mobile prepaid true unlimited data.

I just spoke to someone I know at T Mobile today. I will say this is not a best friend of mine or anything but I don't see why he would lie to me nether. He said they received pan flips for T Mobiles unlimited data with no caps for PRE-PAID plans. He said the price will be $74.99 and launching sometime in November. This came about when I was telling him I would like to switch but I don't want a contract.
Again I'm also taking this as a rumor guys. And yes I know some of you pay $30 a month on straight talk. This is not about straight talk so let's try to keep that out of the thread.
Makes sense, just figured they'd wait a bit longer while they push it on the Classic and Value Plans and get people onto some contracts if they can.
Oh, and Straight Talk is $45 .

Lol OK thanks for the correction.
Tmobile already has prepaid plans. The $30 plan you're talking about is 100mins, unlimited data + text. If you want unlimited everything it's $70. 4G data is limited to 5GB on both of these.

OP is talking about fully unlimited unthrottled data, which T-Mobile has recently brought to its contract Classic and Value Plans.

Hmmm... 80 bucks a month... I guess that is for LTE...
I'm with wind in Toronto Ontario Canada, I currently pay 33 a month for Canada wide calling and unlimited everything (Data is 10 gigs and 30k throttled there after)

T-Mobile doesn't have LTE yet. They're planning to roll it out by the end of 2013.

I like simple mobile i use quite a bit of data and haven't had any throttling saving $20/month for using wifi at home. $50/month compared to $70/month tmobile truly unlimited rumor.

Have you not learned that customer service/sales reps usually know less than XDA members?

My bad, I didn't interpret your OP like that. The current plans are still unlimited data, just not unlimited 4G.
I pray this is true. I hate the thought of signing a contract at this point

Help find Best ATT plan for me?

Hey all. I've been using Straight Talk with an ATT SIM but I'm tired of getting throttled for no reason. I want to switch to a plan with ATT. I would use roughly 2-4 GB a month and prefer unlimited talk and text. Any ideas on a good plan or deal?

although you wont be throttled in speeds, you'll be throttled in the wallet as a major carrier is usually going to cost double or more.
currently, an AT&T individual plan with 450 minutes, 3gb of data and unlimited texting is $90 before tax
a mobile share plan with unlimited minutes, unlimited texting and 4gb of data is $110 before tax
i have at&t. just want you to understand the cost difference

Re: Best ATT plan?
I appreciate the quick response. Yeah, I know the price is gonna suck but honestly I have a tough time trusting ST anymore. They literally told me my plan was throttled because I use FB and Twitter. When I was on Sprint I used maybe 5gb a month. Came to ST and started off using around 2 but for throttled. They have me down to 1GB a month and I STILL get throttled. I don't stream anything and only use a few mb a day. They have a new "department" now for high data use subscribers. Its a voice recording telling you how to minimize your data use. That's it. My plan renewed and it went right back to 200k down. I'm ready to pay more so I can actually use my data for more then just a quick web browse. The price is great but they're so unclear about their policies and its impossible to find someone there who actually knows what they are talking about. Pay for what you get I guess.

And don't forget, it's $10 for every Gb you go over your data plan

As mentioned before there are several options with AT&T, but they come with a price tag. If you want unlimited talk and text and a limited data then mobile share is the way to go. If you have family, or family members who you trust will pay their share of the bill, you can add lines and spread out the costs SOME. There is no right or wrong choice...it is dependent upon you and what you want and/or need. Keep in mind that you can tie into AT&T wireless areas as part of the plans so you can help limit some data usage.
