text reflow in stock browser - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

could anyone explain me if and how text reflow works for stock browser?
on my Gnex most for websites it doesn't seem to work especially when I pinch to zoom
thx

Once you pinch to zoom you have double tap to text reflow.i hope that helps

The double tap just does a zoom or a dezoom

It shouldn't. Pinch to zoom then double tap on any place on the screen and it should shift the text into alignment.

It's been the same for many browsers for many years. It cuts down on CPU use I would assume, if you zoomed in too far the browser wouldn't be trying to resize as you were drawing back out again, stuttering and slowing down your phone.
I think it's the clever way to pinch to zoom.

On the galaxy s2, it reflows automatically after zooming once the option has been switched on

Yeah I know it's not ideal but at least you can reflow text unlike the iphone. HTC and gs2 stock browsers don't require double tap which is neat but Google use their own stock browser and for some bizarre reason they went with double tap.

I have set the fonts to 110% and most of the time I don't even need to zoom, on landscape.
With the 4.3 in display(usable) of the GN most of the time you don't need the extra zoom hence the text reflow. That's just my opinion.
Back on Desire(3.7), text reflow was a must for me.

i was quiet pleased that i could fullscreen browse in lanscape.
not possible in mango...
a simple switch could do the trick! if you want fullscreen u need to spread the word, vote for fullscreen browsing!!!!
i'm not 100% sure but i think in one of the demo videos, the guy who was showing off the new browser on mango was able to toggle the address bar on and off
Not really i kinda like it =) Someting new indeed!
Oh well yes there should be a button for fullscreen browsing. Replied to fast thought it was only for the bar location

ahhhh, funny guy.
+1
It eats too many space.
I think they should make the address bar disappear below the screen when browsing and come back up with a flick from the bottom, or a slide from lower left like for the paste icon.
a pop up/pop out address bar icon would be enough for me.
+1 Options! Options! Options!! There should always be OPTIONS!
I'm all for landscape Address bar, but it better go away once i start scrolling

Just like opera mobile 10.
I agree there should be a switch. But even if it turned on it should disappear like opera 10. Then pull it up bu a little tab showing while your browsing.

It's a very common option in forum polls, even if it's only humorous. Pie should always be an option

In my opinion there should be a slider to turn on/off the adress bar in landscape mode and once activated a little button should appear which opens the bar.

yea.. can some dev make it? It can't be too hard..
Scrolling?
In iOS it is necessary given how slow the scrolling is the first few swipes.
In Android, just swipe quickly and you'll make it. I prefer not having anything on the screen (fullscreen + quick control).. It provides an amazing tablet-like experience.

Galaxy Nexus Browser Text Reflow with Auto-Fit

If "Auto-fit pages" is checked in the browser advanced settings, text reflows & the browser adjusts text so that it is displayed in a column with blank (white space) on webpages. If you then double tap the text zooms in and it is displayed formatted properly to the screen.
I have tried to explore all settings & have tried to search for answer as this is really frustrating.
Any help & guidance will be greatly appreciated. How do I fix this so that text is displayed properly?
Thanks!!
you haven't asked anything..

Sooo uncheck the auto fit box???
Personally I hate that ICS doesn't reflow like previous Android, on demand when you do zoom in/out.

if you uncheck that box & double tap to zoom the text doesn't fit the screen and you have to scroll to the sides to read.
I have tried dolphin browser & am facing the same problem there as well.

Ok yeah, it's an ICS issue. I hate that they changed it.

Web browsing question

Hey all, just got my S3. Have been living on a G2 for a full 2 years. Had no issues, didnt see a need to upgrade. But I finally did.
I do a lot of news browsing on my fone, part of my job, i was able to double tap the text portion and my G2 would center and fit to screen just the text of the articles. Havent been able to figure out that on my S3. Is it even possible or do i just have to try and zoom and landscape view everything?
Another quick question, quick closing web page currently viewing. Say I was reading an article on one webpage and another window had say um er porn, how would i quick close the porn and go back to the article. (girlfriend is a quiet walker)
I use xscope browser, swipe to the side and the screen changes to your other open page and dbl tap zoom works.

Regarding the text resize issue, the default browser should have that functionality. Check that settings > advanced > auto fit is enabled. If I was worried about hiding pr0n fast I would just hit home and open something random. It'd be like to key presses. I'm guessing switching tabs would have to be the same or more.

but that does not explain the pants around the ankles....
Stock browser has a reading mode. On a lot of sites press the green R in the address bar. Not quite the same but can be nice to use.

This made me chuckle.
Why not just hit the home button ?
Is it really more believable to be going at it to an article about stool softener, solar panels, or Obama than your homescreen ? Homescreen's probably less awkward than Obama, man, unless your girlfriend is into that.
Also, browsers have tabs. Just switch tab ? Delineate browser usage by function ?
Or just look at porn together or something that way you don't have to hide it. :good:
Thanks guys, the autofit actually helped a lot.
"checking for hemoroids" is a good excuse for the pants around the ankles. Has worked for me.

I sometimes experience something similar in ezPDF reader. I zoom around in a document, and once it is in zooming mode, I can zoom with one finger. Maybe this is related.
Meaning, if you just zoomed around, take a quick stop before scrolling. Maybe this works.
I'm not sure, can one activate zooming by double tapping? This would explain a bit more.

I've got to try this once I get home from work. Curious if this is a feature instead of a bug
Just did a quick search in google and found multiple results stating the following for chrom (beta?):
To perform a one-hand zoom simply double tap and, after the second tap, leave your finger pressed. You can then move your finger up and down to zoom in an out.
So it's a feature.

Well, it depends. I tried yesterday night. I zoomed into web pages one fingered (on purpose), and I must say, it has something going for it. Gotta see if I like this feature on a daily basis.
Certainly, if you know about it and use it on purpose it's at least much better than stumbling over it thinking it could be a bug
